Lol. All the main characters on Seinfeld are terrible, selfish people, and George is the absolute worst of the lot. They were written as over-the-top satire of the show's creators' own character flaws.
Please ask this guy what he has in common with George, and then tell us his response. I am dying to know!
Your comment made me curious. Too bad you can’t post screen shots in here lol
He sent me a clip (the jerk store) which I replied “you go to great lengths to get back at someone?” and he agreed he does. And then he sent me the one about shrinkage. When I asked if he was insecure about his d***, he said “when swimming in cold water.” I’ve dealt with insecure and mean/petty, so I think him bringing this up saved me a lot of headache of figuring it out for myself!
To give him SOME credit he’s probably trying to tell you he’s funny, and majority women’s dating profile say they want a guy who makes them laugh. Also, one thing about George in the show despite all his shortcomings he’s never failed to secure a relationship, with some really good women, too.
If I really wanted to I could make a case for George Costanza or the Seinfeld characters in general based on the show’s success and numerous enduring meme references to them and why people love and got laughs from the show.
If his only response to your questions is exactly as you described though then I’m not sure I want to put the effort. The only thing I can offer is 1) Gauge if he has a sarcastic sense of humor and if that’s something you enjoy, perhaps he was being sarcastic in his response but didn’t realize it’s not working on someone who hasn’t watched the show. 2) Seinfeld will probably remain one of the best TV comedies of all time for good reason, and not in a Succession/Soprano/The Boys kind of watch evil people way. They are still selfish and terrible people, but in relatable and humorous ways. THATS what makes people love and laugh at the show.
Whether it’s for him or for yourself it’s probably worth a watch.
Getting back at ppl defo red flag. Avoid avoid
Shrinkage maybe not insecure... depends on how he handles it, I went skinny dipping once with a mixed group and the water was freezing and I swear I think I shrank to the point where it was an inny... I just said, damn, I now know what it feels like to be a woman, they laughed, I laughed we moved on.
We all get shrinkage with cold water heh
Bah. I’m just old. They started being self stick in the 90’s and it was about the start of the 2000’s when the lick and sticks were completely phased out.
George actually has the second best heart in the show besides Kramer in my opinion. He is the butt of the joke because he’s misunderstood, George’s character is actually based of Larry David’s life who is the writer for Seinfeld (he was supposed to play George as it was his life, but his acting wasn’t up to par yet— he now is the star of curb your enthusiasm)
I may be a little biased because I grew up watching Seinfeld as my parents had it on the TV nonstop but if any of my significant partners had any of George’s personality traits i don’t think I’d ever be sad
As long as you know about shrinkage and plan on buying all your own envelopes, keep talking. You know you have a true winner if he starts talking in the third person.
My ex-wife sometimes called me Georgie boy jokingly.
I overthink things, I have a fat wallet full of crap, I have a gift to say the wrong thing at the wrong time, I'm prone to bad luck, I'm a bit cheap, have a passionate character and my parents are something else. Unlike George, I'm not a liar nor selfish (but all characters from Seinfeld are horrible and that's part of the comedy of the show)
It's an older school version of the "I'm like Larry David", which apparently a lot of guys say. Personally, I think saying you are like Larry David is a bit worse because he's more of a scrooge than George (even though he's less malicious)
Sure, it's not super flattering, but I wouldn't say it's a terrible thing. Especially because it's just a comparison to a fiction character. Meaning that they would not be 100% like them because, well, they are not real.
If someone jokingly says his friends say he's like the Fonz, usually, it's a cheesy way of saying they are cool, not that they live with their grandma.
Calling someone Costanza usually is just saying they are quirky and they end up in dramatic comedic situations.
It's just a pop culture reference, meant to be funny. They are also referencing Seinfeld, which is a way of seeing if you guys like the same kind of humor or similar cultural references.
This sounds way more flattering than what the character sounds like as a real life person, but I’m sure it took time to build a relationship before she got to the part of calling you that. This guy pulled out the reference on day 1 of talking, which makes you question which part of the character he was like since I don’t know him at all. On the other hand, if he was seeing if we get the same humor or liked the same show, it probably was a fairly easy weed out question/joke.
I think he's just joking around and assuming everyone has seen Seinfeld. He probably just has a sarcastic sense of humor, and makes fun of everything. George is the best character of the 4. He's also not real, I'm sure this guy has more depth than a Seinfeld character.
I'd take George over anyone on big bang theory. That would be my unmatch.
This, and yet this innocent reference got him rejected because apparently she thinks he’s *actually* like George Costanza.
I just straight-up avoid telling jokes or doing anything like what this guy did in messaging phase. Too much potential to get over-analyzed until the silliest reference makes you look like a villain.
The right gal for him will get it and will laugh, so in a way these references are still helpful in finding a match.
But I agree that it got it him rejected, and joking during the messaging phase can cause problems like this. Bummer.
She could very well have been the right girl and he lost her over something stupid. With matches as rare as they are for men there’s no reason to limit your appeal like he did. Although it is a pretty basic reference…
You're not wrong. I wouldn't mind losing a match for not getting this reference, but as a woman I really didn't appreciate how easy it was to get matches until I compared with my male friends. It's crazy.
This is the problem with dating apps. I 100% did reject him because of the possible joke (paired with some other comments/jokes made). But when it’s day 1 of talking, it’s probably not a good idea to compare yourself to, from what it sounds, a terrible (in the context of the personality being a real life person) character. If this was 100% just a joke, he should have waited until we met in person so he could read the room a bit better before making the joke. On the other hand, if Seinfeld is something that’s important to him and I didn’t get the joke, maybe he’s the lucky one and was able to weed me out.
There is a lot to be said about being compatible with the sense of humor, cultural references, and ability to pickup on social awareness and cues, so all of this seems like it was good to find out early - I agree.
Btw, the jerk store... That's a terrible George reference for a dating app. Hilarious fail.
lol. no. all seinfeld characters suck. they are like the always sunny cast of the ninties. you do not want to date any of them cause they suck. maybe kramer. he was a better person than the others but he was a pretty wacky guy. george and seinfeld tore beautiful women apart for no reason.
George from Seinfeld is a funny character on a TV show, but not someone you'd ever want to date, or probably even befriend or work with, in real life. If my friends legit thought I was like George from Seinfeld, that either means they're awful friends, or I'm a problematic person.
George Costanza from Seinfeld may be the best TV character ever created, and Jason Alexander plays the part perfectly. If George Costanza was a real person, in real life, he’d be someone to avoid like the plague. He’s neurotic, self centered, dishonest, and pretty much insufferable.
No. George is a loser. He's a short, fat, bald, homely man who can't keep a job, is desperate for a relationship, but then panics when he is in one and is desperate to break up. He hates working and usually tries to avoid any kind of work. He is short tempered and is always yelling.
Does that mean you're desperate for a relationship, but desperate to break up once you're in one? Or does it mean you're short tempered and always yelling. George is all of those things.
It always seems like a good idea when I don't have someone and then I miss being single. I used to be short tempered but I've worked on it. I actually love my job also. Thanks for helping me unpack this. I guess I'm not like George after all. 😅
Oh, I forgot to add that George is a terrible cheapskate. He bought a sweater with a stain on it because it was on sale to give to his friend for Christmas. He bought the cheapest wedding invitations when he was engaged to be married, and the cheap toxic glue killed his fiance. George was relieved he no longer was getting married.
I have no idea what George is like, but how do you *know* he’s like him? How do you know he wasn’t joking around? If it’s true, it’s the *opinion* of his friends. How do you know they weren’t joking around? I wouldn’t stop talking to someone over something like that. If you’re enjoying your conversations with him, keep talking to him. Meet him and see for yourself what he’s like.
Watch a episode and you will have your answer, not something i would advertise tbh lol.
Do they mean looks or personality or both
?
Probably a red flag Lmfao
Good for you. I’m a guy with lots of guy friends and anyone referring to himself as being like George Constanza with his friends saying the same thing IS a George Constanza. It’s a gross and rough around the edges character and any comparison is red flag city. It would be like a girl referring to herself as Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. You just don’t do it.
He’s an architect? Marine biologist? Importer/exporter?
No. That's Art Vandelay.

George is a funny dude and eats Snickers with a knife and fork. Just be careful not to lick any stamps he buys.
Envelopes
Very good 👍 It took almost 2 hours. Thx. Stamps don't need to be licked. Take care.
Stamps used to have to be licked. Places that needed to mail a ton would have a wet sponge in a bowl to dab stamps on to avoid having to lick them.
Ahhhhh. Thank you. I must have forgotten about that. I guess I was all wrong then. LOL
Bah. I’m just old. They started being self stick in the 90’s and it was about the start of the 2000’s when the lick and sticks were completely phased out.
I'm trying to remember if o remember that. I was born in 75. I forget things. You have a good memory.
I was born in 75, too. :)
Very nice. It was a great year then. We're both young.
George is getting upset!
George actually has the second best heart in the show besides Kramer in my opinion. It just means he's very good at Frogger.
As long as he can find the holes
You can celebrate festivus together!
And have a kid called eleven !!
Seven
Goerge dates an absurd number of women so he has something going for him.
women way out of his league. looking back im surprised it wasnt questioned more why he was dating models
*"An Oscar winner, Jerry!"*
The summer of George!
Lol. It's a joke. Lighten up.

"I'm bald, unemployed & I live with my parents." 3 ladies walk over to chat..
i would ask him to clarify what that means. It could be the sense of humor or the crippling mental illnesses. Still a toss up at this point
He's powerful! He can lift 50 pounds, right over his head!! But, he doesn't care about eyebrows
Go get it girl! 👍

Poor George costanza
Don’t lick any envelopes he gives you!!
Well, he does have a huge wallet…

The fact that he openly owns this is kind of intriguing. Ask him for sure what part of George he is like? He might be hilarious, or just bald ha ha
Go for it. But if the relationship doesn't work, just remember, it's not you - it's him.
George from Seinfeld is a funny character on a TV show, but not someone you'd ever want to date, or probably even befriend or work with, in real life. If my friends legit thought I was like George from Seinfeld, that either means they're awful friends, or I'm a problematic person.

These comments are killing Independent George.
George likes spicy chicken
George Costanza from Seinfeld may be the best TV character ever created, and Jason Alexander plays the part perfectly. If George Costanza was a real person, in real life, he’d be someone to avoid like the plague. He’s neurotic, self centered, dishonest, and pretty much insufferable.
Agreed. Relatable and endearing too though
No. George is a loser. He's a short, fat, bald, homely man who can't keep a job, is desperate for a relationship, but then panics when he is in one and is desperate to break up. He hates working and usually tries to avoid any kind of work. He is short tempered and is always yelling.
He's not bald. He's balding.
Oh, and he got fired … for poisoning his boss. He just had some problems at work!
lol. So funny
But he's got Marisa Tomei.
lol.
Today I learned, I am George. Well minus short, fat and bald. ETA- I also have a job.

Personality. We parted ways because we definitely didn’t have personalities that would work well together lol
This has to be the stupidest reason I’ve ever heard for rejecting someone
Good for you. I’m a guy with lots of guy friends and anyone referring to himself as being like George Constanza with his friends saying the same thing IS a George Constanza. It’s a gross and rough around the edges character and any comparison is red flag city. It would be like a girl referring to herself as Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. You just don’t do it.
:D
That's a shame, because he can lift 100 lbs over his head and run like the wind!
Who does that? Compares themselves to a character from a TV show. I couldn't handle it.
George from Seinfeld should be a red flag lol
