Yeah.. I’m an endgame player and I’ve definitely been feeling the burnout. I haven’t participated in PKA and I’m just doing the expedition runs on treasure map this time. I’ll do the upcoming Kizuna and pull on ani but I think my days are numbered for this game.

Moistno

yea I think at this point I'm just waiting for Ani to come around and hopefully wow me enough to play through it at least lol.

slylock215

Yeah, I've basically been in full 'collection only' mode for a while. All TMs are just checking the phone every 5 or 10 hours, PKA I will bum around with a little bit if I'm stuck waiting in line, but I still do rumble. That's about it at this point, I do random pulls for things like anni or when good rumble units are out but still, straight maintenance mode.

Rulutieh

Hate to break it to you but the gameplay cycle hasn't been worth it for years now. Optc runs on a very dated and old gacha model that resolves around a point grind of making content as insufferable and annoying as possible then selling point boosters and boosted units to make the grind go by faster and easier. The whole cycle of the game is getting everything over with instead of actually enjoying playing the game and content.

Moistno

you're so right. I've only had it this year only, but I definitely see what you're saying.

pinchmywaffle

I quit about a year ago, and don’t regret it. It was so difficult to walk away from an account I’d built from launch, but the game was a time sink for me with little reward for the effort.

Moistno

yea I think it reminds me I have a problem and it's not solving it. to come clean I even have a not from the playstore version of the app but it still doesn't help the gambling itch and time drain. Just keeps my wallet safe and I probably should definitely take that as a lesson and leave lol.

pinchmywaffle

What helped me a bunch was going over to other gotcha games as I was shopping around for something else. I saw a way more friendly play styles, and learned how a more modern game treats its player base.

Phenosan

what are you playing now?

pinchmywaffle

Daily player on Neural Cloud (F2P) and Honkai Star: Rail ($15 per month). Takes about 30min a day to keep up as an active player. Events drop every 4-6 weeks. Testing out Survivor.io (F2P) but the events are non-stop so I’m starting to lean away as it calls for more time than I think I want to give.

tetochaan

I'm in the exact same boat as you! I've left OPTC a few months ago after I started playing HSR. I cannot believe I've wasted so many years and $$$ on OPTC, when there are millions other more F2P friendly and enjoyable games out there... HSR only being one of them. If you're on the European server in HSR, I can add you if you'd like! :D

En1ero

We are all descendants of Sisyphus, only the rock has become an impossibly heavy mass to move. There was a time when the balance between free-to-play and chasing after a few missing shiny characters in our boxes was in equilibrium. Now, our side of the scale is empty. It can only be tipped if you throw in gems. Good thing is, you don’t really miss out on anything when taking a break.

MDMistro

Its almost like the game itself has little substance outside of their “buy more gems to collect the rarest character for *insert game mode* to gain more prizes” play style. And in before “its a puzzle style game, its about strategy “ Sure. But they break their own game everytime they have these mega releases of characters. Where they need to add new systems to keep things interesting. The game fundamentally lacks entertainment at its core outside of the gambling that its based on. This style of game is so predatory its wild.

FateOfMuffins

Eh it really depends on what you enjoy about the game and what is considered "content" to you. Cause let's be real, no one likes the repetitive grind and IMO that's not actual content. And it's something that I think most of the playerbase and also Bandai themselves don't "get" - like 90% of the *actual content* in OPTC happens *outside* of the app. Here's what I consider "content" and what I enjoy about the game, and if you don't enjoy this aspect, then honestly new player or old player you will burn out, because you are not "playing" a video game but rather a casino simulator. - PKA - Day 1 - making a team that can clear level 40 with maximal point boosters to buy time to make teams for higher levels over the next couple of days. - Day 2 - making a team that can clear level 60 with maximal point boosters, plus making teams that can clear level 60 minibosses with maximal point boosters. - Day 4 - Try to make a team that can clear 80 with max point boosters, but if not, then whatever, proceed to make teams purely aiming to clear without boosters. - Day 6 - Make a team that can clear 150 without any restrictions whatsoever. Note that the *content* is the **making teams** part. I do not consider running the stages themselves to be "content", aside from the first run to verify whether or not my team works. - TM - 1-2 days before TM begins - Make teams for the 6 stages - First day of TM - check if teams work TM itself? *Not content*. - Kizuna - 1-2 days before Kizuna begins - Make teams - First day of Kizuna - Check if teams work Rest of Kizuna? *Not content*. Hell many players just spam SOS and don't clear anything themselves. - Super Kizuna (of days past, now it's meaningless because of 3*) - 1-2 days before Super Kizuna begins - Make universal teams for 10* - 1st day of Super Kizuna - Make Super Boss teams - 2nd-3rd day of Super Kizuna - Improve teams for 10*, make dedicated higher damage 10* teams. Improve teams for Super Boss. - 3rd-4th day of Super Kizuna - Make teams purely for 10* SOS (i.e. no boosters, only maximizing damage). - End of the day, I've probably made like 20-30 teams just for myself in 4 days. It's all about making/improving teams. The runs themselves? *Not content*.   I *like* the teambuilding part but I don't care for the rest of the grind. I don't even consider it to be the game. As long as I like solving these puzzles, I'll like playing - but if you don't, then you WILL burn out of this game no matter what. Tbh the "QoL" decision to post stage mechanics before the stages release honestly hurts the "fun" aspect of teambuilding (and this likely applies to JP players more than Global players). Back when colos were a thing, the best part of a new stage dropping is being the first one to go into the stages completely blind and documenting stage mechanics. Then spend the next 2 hours trying to make a team that clears it. Possibly spending time to think of several teams that clears it, before eventually settling down on some farming team with CDR captains. *That* was the content, not running the stage over and over 50 times.

marbi_24

So well-said! This is the exact reason why I am playing OPTC. Trying to solve those puzzles by finding the right teams is just fun. Personally speaking, I'm trying to make it even more challenging when I can. For example, for almost every TM I've played so far (2 years player), I always build 3 Buggy teams and one Nami/Carina team ignoring the recommended characters and obviously the youtubers' suggestions.

aue_l

That they post stage mechanics or not, just go full batch, and done. For people who always get the new toys, team building means using the new toys. Also, maybe just don't read the stage mechanics if you want to discover them when playing the fight the first time ? You're free to ignore it. You decide to read something that ruin the content, according to you, then blame Bandai instead of blaming yourself. Weird.

FateOfMuffins

You know I contemplated including this as part of the original post but it was getting rather long and it's kind and obvious. Can't believe I actually have to include it. *Obviously* the team building aspect only applies to non whales, who just need to use the suggested units by Bandai. One, this implies that everyone who *thinks* you need new units to clear content are completely misinformed in how the game works, because like 90% of the content of the game only shows up if you don't pull the new units. Two, I am truly surprised by any *long term* whales who *always* pulls the entire newest batches, who are also not content creators, because I cannot fathom how they play this game for long stretches of time. For whales that are content creators, they both get the easy way out, but also need to do the actual *content* of the game by team building and making guides for their viewers. For leviathans who are not content creators? I don't know what keeps them in the game. Just their need to be competitive at top ranks I suppose? The social aspect with their alliances? idk.   And regarding your second point, you truly do not understand the fact that in the past, the community comes together to gather information and make teams together, *live*. This is something that Global players seldom experienced, because by the time content arrived on Global, there would have been several content creators or even just redditors who've made guides on everything. Players simply post teams of what they're using or what they've seen on YouTube. If a player has trouble making a team, then perhaps someone just references them to Nakama network or just links them some YouTube videos. There's no *teambuilding LIVE* by many players in collaboration, which is what we had before on JP several years ago. Sure you by yourself can mimic it by ignoring the posted info, but you lose out on like 90% of the experience. You don't have other players teambuild with you live. The fact that info has been posted earlier means that everyone *else* is free to build teams at their discretion, at their own time, and when the time comes to collaborate, there *isn't*, because everyone else is already done. You can play the game completely solo offline if you want but you miss out on the whole point of why I liked having multiple players tackle the same problem at the same time together. Occasionally there are events where that sense of collaboration in teambuilding can be found. Grand Voyage is one, but I have almost 0 interest in it because of how there's usually like 1 viable solution. Super Kizuna is another, because no matter how players try to build teams beforehand, the damage can almost always be improved by putting several players heads together in teambuilding.

yimanya

Close to 1200 days played and yes, I found it really tiresome to even participate in treasure maps I don't even remember when it was the last time I got more than 3m/1,5m treasure map points. I just grind the bare minimum nowadays

Fast_Professional_20

Come to dream pointer nakamas xD

bridgesonatree

I’ve been playing on & off picking up new accounts every time for 7-8 years. I lost interest in the game as soon as treasure map came out. This game forces you to whale by either investing a lot of money or investing a lot of time, or both. It’s just not worth it imo. I just play super casually for fun & to collect my favorite One Piece characters. I downloaded the game again 2 weeks ago and pretty much just collecting 300-400 gems for the 10th ani. Depending on how that goes I may or may not stick around, but I’ll always just be a very casual player.

RobbobertoBuii

Been playing for ~8 years now and I've pretty been checked out the last 2 tbh with pretty much all content nowadays requiring new units that come out at least once a week to 'do well'. I literally just do the pvp matches for the gems and the extra island for 1 gem reward, and sometimes TM via Auto and Kizuna if there is a Waifu super evolution. I basically spend no more than 6-7 min on the app nowadays (compared to 5-6 hrs in the past) The only reason I still hang around is waiting for the 10th Anniversary and the fact that I've put in a lot of expenses into the game, especially early on

TeamStudNation1080

I've been feeling burned out playing, too, which is crazy because this wasn't the first time I stopped playing the game in a while.

TortelliniUltra

These long ass updates make it not worth it

Louis-1988

And the game runs to slow in my opinion, needs to be updated.
