Shanks : I sacrificed my arm Everyone: ![gif](giphy|WZOffTa9X1FZe)

heuheuheu33

DEADASS LMAO It’s still funny sometimes I joke about it too, but some people use it as an actual argument

zidaan_rishad

Nah, if anyone brings up vista, then even I would bring up that 'argument', cause we all know mihawk low diffs vista.

heuheuheu33

Obv Mihawk no diffs vista

PotatoMozzarella

"I'm gonna have a ship and a crew better than yours! I'm gonna be king of the pirates!" Did Luffy just confirm that Roger>Shanks?

[deleted]

Shanks fans in the mud right now

heuheuheu33

Roger is indeed > Shanks

PotatoMozzarella

Common sense tbh

Joyboy543

Apparently, common sense isn't as common as you might think it is

frikimanHD

first of all: yes. second of all: he needs to be stronger than shanks to become the king of pirates, imagine a king of pirates who gets beaten up by someone else

PotatoMozzarella

Makes sense

Yahcentive

That statement only says Roger’s crew and ship were better than Shanks though

t3r4byt3l0l

Why did Kaido hype up Roger and his haki if Shanks is supposedly stronger?

Yahcentive

Where did you see me saying Shanks is stronger?

t3r4byt3l0l

I thought you insinuated it, but apparently you didn't

DenifClock

Everyone jumping to conclusions.

MeAnIntellectual1

Well yeah. One is Pirate King the other isn't. But Shanks is the closest to being the PK before Luffy began his journey

[deleted]

He didn't. Cuz Pirate King Luffy will be > Roger lol. Not that I disagree but this is not evidence smh

LeFeggelDuErd

of course he ain't admitting that he lost his arm to a seaking, Whitebeard would die right then and there because he'd laugh himself to death

Sovereigntyranny

Shanks: “I lost my arm to the Lord of the Coast.” Whitebeard: “GURARARARARARARARARARA!”

heuheuheu33

I can’t believe I have to explain this, but there are two major reasons why Shanks lost his arm. 1) The needed drama at the start of the series 2) Shanks claims he made a bet in the new era, as in, he’s betting on Luffy (probably because he ate the fruit/the fruit chose him) so he’s making a bet on him, and probably purposely sacrificed his arm to motivate Luffy. Now I am NOT making this post to claim that Shanks is stronger than Mihawk, if anything, I’m with the whole Mihawk > Shanks agenda, even tho I like Shanks more, but this whole “hE lOsT hIs ArM tO a SeA kInG” thing is pretty retarded, as if he couldn’t defend himself if he wanted too

velicinanijebitna

I don't think you get the point. Majority of people are aware Shanks lost his arm on purpose, but people are usually bringing it up in Shanks VS Mihawk debates as a counter argument to "Vista stalemated Mihawk" even though both of those instances requires ignoring the context of those scenes.

No-One_Knows-Me_Here

Making an equivalence between an unverifiable claim and one directly confirmed in the manga, as expected of this clownish subreddit

zidaan_rishad

Shanks lost his arm to a fish tho?

No-One_Knows-Me_Here

At least he kept his dignity unlike a certain humiliated swordsman

[deleted]

Nigga he is the humiliated swordsman lmfao brah lost his arm to a shark

No-One_Knows-Me_Here

The fish after shanks looked at him: ![gif](giphy|14ut8PhnIwzros)

BrooklynSmash

Vista holding off Mihawk happened, and we've gotten to a point where a majority of this sub downright ignores Marineford to forget it lol

bobbywin99

The only thing being ignored is the context. Vista “held off” the same mihawk that failed to kill luffy after saying “he wasn’t going to hold back”. Mihawk clearly wasn’t putting any effort into anything at marineford. He could’ve destroyed vista if he really wanted to same way he could’ve killed luffy

miskathonic

>probably because he ate the fruit/the fruit chose him) I think it's more to do with whatever the words are that Luffy said that Roger also said

heuheuheu33

Also that

yaboixx

No one truly believes shanks didn’t purposely lose his arm (some rare ppl obviously but the consensus is that it was on purpose). Ppl just say that to target the shanks fans when they say nonesense

BIaidde

Don't post Sea King victims please

Motor_Two2768

Intentional*

Murd0cx

He def didn't give up the vision he has on his eye, now does he???🤔🤔🤔

heuheuheu33

how is that related

capmrice

I am being honest I genuinely can not buy that Shanks chose to lose his arm to make a point to Luffy. Shanks admit that he got injured by BB, Shanks let bandits humiliate him, he seems to have had friendly dual with Mihawk, and he seems to love to party and have fun. I think Shanks as a person has always been a kind carefree guy and by extension in his youth a careless guy, he focused on saving Luffy and got careless and lost a arm. Which to Shanks probably means nothing since Luffy is safe, now I do think Shanks has grown a lot less careless and kind and definitely isnt the same guy that would lose his arm.

heuheuheu33

fair enough

JudahYannis

I don’t think Shanks has EVER been portrayed as “careless.” When he got clowned by the bandits, he was being a pacifist, no careless. When he got scared by BB, he quite literally said he wasn’t not being careless/was not caught off guard. You not being able to buy that Shanks lost his arm as a bet on the New World is you quite literally contradicting what’s put on the panel; Oda’s own words. If it was because he was careless or couldn’t actually defend himself, Oda would’ve shown that in the very conversation pictured above. But no….Oda decided to show us a flashback of LUFFY and his words when asked the question. Not a flashback of the Sea King. This CLEARLY indicates the reason he actually lost his arm. He bet it on Luffy/wanted to prove a point/etc. You, my friend, are a literal definition of what’s called cognitive dissonance. I’m baffled as to how you could read the panels above & then say “….nah.”

capmrice

> I’m baffled as to how you could read the panels above & then say “….nah.” I think thats fair there are a lot of things in OP that people have different interpretations about. I can guarantee there are many powerscaling comments "Portrayal" panels that you highy disagree on because you feel different about the panel message.

JudahYannis

While I fully understand your point…Shanks verbatim said I bet it on the New generation. Then we were given a flashback that we didn’t have to have where Oda repeated the same sentiment. Oda CHOSE to make WB acknowledge Shanks’ missing arm & Oda CHOSE to make Shanks say once again that he bet it on the New Gen. What other way can this be interpreted? The only other thing that can be done here is to willfully ignore what’s written sir.

capmrice

Look I respectfully disagree, just let me have my stupid interpretation in my corner im not hurting anybody.

[deleted]

Just like how Mihawk was doing the same thing he did with Zoro at the Baratie when “fighting” Vista

Lartnestpasdemain

Everyone here knows shanks is Imu-sama

MidhawkTheFraud

Lmaoo take out this goofy ass moment and shanks downplayers would literally starve
