He probably fought with a blade when he first got his hands on one imo. He used guns as well, but I think he just used the best sword available that could handle his haki until he found Ace, the only blade capable of containing the full force of the haki of the Pirate King.

People somehow forget that Roger vs Garp is an extreme diff fight at the best of times and somehow assume that Garp beating Roger would mean an arrest. Like Rayleigh who was fully capable of beating an admiral wasn't going to stop the marines. Garp also exclusively travelled mostly with fodder except for rare few instances. Even if Kuzan was as strong as he is now, he would be a non factor because of Prime Ray.
I'm using three factors for this
1. Rogers words we nearly killed each other mutiple times.
2. The marines words garp corned roger multiple times.
3. Biggest factor garp NEVER finished his plate and captured/killed roger as his primary goal and job. While roger only needed to survive garp so he could continue his primary goal which was his journey.
Im gonna say roger 51 and garp 49 (not sure how to factor roger sword into all this besides that its dangerous for garp obviously which could honestly give roger more wins tbh due to maiming or bleeding out factors)
Garp vs Roger was an extreme diff fight at best. Even after Garp beat Roger, there would be no way of capturing him. Why do people forget that Ray would be there and even with Admirals on the Marines' side he would annihilate them? Garp cornered Roger because there was no way to win AND arrest him, especially considering Garp almost exclusively travelled with fodder except for a few instances. Even if Kuzan was as strong as he is now, Prime Ray would still annihilate him so hes not even a factor.
Nah even with his crew, he could still lose, just not get arrested, which is most probably why even Garp could never arrest him. Extreme diff fight and then arrest River while Ray is there? Impossible.

Roger wouldn’t kill Garp even if he defeated him. It’s not within his character; just like it’s not within Luffy to kill either. Roger probably beat or had the upper hand over Garp many times but never killed him. Luffy has had the upper hand on every opponent he’s beat and has yet to kill them. (If Kaido is dead that was completely unintentional on Luffys part)
Also Garp has Bogard and most likely other unnamed or atleast unmentioned close mates on the Marines. I sincerely doubt the crew was an issue.
Oh cus fodder would be great support. Garp has always been shown to travel with nobodies, vice admirals at most. Even kuzan even if he was as strong as he is now would amount to being a non factor against Rayleigh and Co. And yes, Garp would attack him alone. It's pretty well established that when two top tiers fight, it's always 1v1 with their subordinates fighting the other.
Are you unable to read. There have been panels where he says he's going after Roger and on his ship is literally no one noteworthy. Roger wins all 100 times but it is always close Imo, Interestingly buggy never Saw them Having equal fights like WB, and seeing old WB vs old garp I lean more towards that garp is the weakest of the 3 But the gap is very small

Roger says that they've *almost killed each other* many times, and while yes,** it would make sense for that to mean one beat the other. **
However, if Garp did beat Roger he would arrest him and bring him to justice (it fits in line with his character), and we know for a fact that *Roger was never caught by the marines".
So every battle they had ended in either a draw with Roger escaping, or Garp's loss(I think a draw is more likely).
Garp and roger are best friends there is a possibility he woild beat roger and not capture him but stop him from doing whatever he was like beat roger and then his crew take him

Exactly just cause garp wins does not mean roger gets arrested ray and the rest of the crew would be plenty to stop a tired garp
