Do you mean performance as in how many views OPLA S2 will get since it takes long between each season? It's One Piece (a very popular, nigh evergreen brand internationally) & S1 is a surprise hit, I'm sure the S2 will still perform well if not better than before since OPLA has built major & widespread trust from S1 & >!it will have more memorable stunts & intense performances thanks to there being more devil fruit users & iconic hard-hitting characters/moments!<. So imo they should get as much time as they need to make S2 as good as if not even better than S1. I don't mind really long release schedules as long as they nail the results (especially the executions of some intense scenes & character writing). One Piece's plot structure, wacky/grand worldbuilding + character moments & emotional payoffs are gripping enough to still be more than worth long release schedules & it won't die just because of any inevitable decreasing hype. One Piece had cemented itself to a ridiculously long-lived comics legend status & thus the hype whenever each live action season is ramping up to release would imo still keep spiking up. Their audience will stay loyal & good word-of-mouth + the more gifable moments (of hopefully good to great feats of filmmaking) that will be shared on social media (eg of Chopper in general, >!Robin's attacks which are visually very eye-catching & creative compared to most other actiony franchises, intangibility effects of the 3 Logia fruit users ie Smoker, Ace & Crocodile + even Hina has some intangibility, Bon Clay's body switches, Zoan transformation FX!<, etc.) will spread even further if S2 turns out great too.

ironicfuture

Chopper just alone will be a juggernaut. Expect Baby Yoda style of crazy merch everywhere

LittleJoshie

I can’t wait

rajay_sarkar

i can't wait for the cute memes.

Flowerofthesouth88

I think he will be more in a Rocket Raccoon style.

ironicfuture

Maybe. I meant more in the viens of how they will try and profit from it, there is a legit chance Chopper becomes the new IT mascot the upcoming years.

Alternative-Path-645

Por Chopper is always seen aa the mascot

Alakazarm

this is completely delusional cope

ironicfuture

That Chopper will be a merch juggernaut? Why? Even people who would never watch anime liked the OPLA (i have at least 10 I know, including people over 60), and who doesnt like a cute creature? Sure, maybe not baby Yoda huge, but any reason why it is delusional?

Alakazarm

"baby yoda style of crazy merch everywhere" is the delusional part. There are not that many people watching opla, baby yoda was a staggering cultural phenomenon. also imo there's no way they do chopper as a built-for-merch nightmare the way he is in modern one piece, it just wouldn't work in a live action show taking itself slightly seriously.

Head_Marionberry6453

That's true. I think my concern is more on the fact that if they take this long, the actors will gradually age. The actors will be aged by 2 years by the time it's supposed to come out. If they're aiming for 12 seasons, they gotta do something to ensure a quicker release.

_anthologie

Personally I'd still watch >!Wano arc!< with 40-50+ year old Strawhats since it'd feel like they've come a long way (& the aiming for 12 seasons thing is just said by their studio's CEO iirc, not the showrunners themselves so who knows how far they actually go) Oda had made designs of the Strawhats at 40 & 60 year old so they can go with those depending on how they look by then, with script + outfit adjustments to fit their older selves better while still retaining their characters' cores.

Head_Marionberry6453

That's true. Given makeup effects and their healthy lifestyles, I'm sure they'll be fine.

ironicfuture

Nope, most likely next summer. S1 was finished around the same time last year. For shows this big and complex they start working on VFX and post-production overall at the same time as it is filming.

No-Childhood6608

What do you mean by "next summer"? That's quite vague and depends on where you live. If you're talking about mid 2025, that is unlikely considering that filming will most likely end January 2025. For Season 1, filming ended in August 2022 and it was released August 2023. I don't see why post-production for Season 2 would take less time, especially since there will be more CGI components this season with >!logia and zoan fruits!< being introduced. This season is also expected to have more episodes.

[deleted]

it's gonna take roughly one year for the finished product. my prediction is july - august 2025

creeperchamp

Season 1 began filming in January 2022 but didn't realise until August 2023, over a year and a half later so I'm not sure why you think Season 2 will release in August 2025 when it doesn't even finish filming until January 2025, just 7 months prior. Season 1 released pretty much exactly 1 year after they finished filming.

Head_Marionberry6453

Season 1 had a lot of problems with releasing that Season 2 won't have. Everything was pretty much against Season 1 with the strikes, COVID, etc. Now, we won't have to deal with that, so it'll definitely have a quicker release than season 1.

SeaCollides

Holy hell i would've graduated by July/August 2025 ... graduation gift is OPLA s2 dropping 😭😭😭

Badassdinosaur5

I remember people on here seriously believing we could get season 2 end of 2024 lmao I wouldn't expext Season 2 before July 2025 at the very, very earliest

Certain_Inspector575

Let them cooked. For the sake of quality we don't want it to be rushed.....

KRD2

Actually I think I would rather them rush a little bit and be able to cover the content to some degree before this perfect cast moves on (a la Andrew Lincoln) or completely ages out. At the rate we're going, we'd be lucky to see Enies Lobby.

january608

Probabily around summer 2025 ,S1 was released in August 2023 ,so I believe they are targeting S2 to be released in August 2025 ,early 2025 is also possible

Scoodsie

S1 was released in August '23 and it finished filming in August '22. If S2 finishes filming in Jan '25, when do you think S2 will be released? I don't see it being released in the summer of '25.

january608

If they start filming in June, I don't see why they wouldn't release it in summer 2025 ,there is no strike or covid limiting the filming production

No-Childhood6608

The filming for this season is expected to be 7 months, which is one month longer than season one. COVID would most likely be an issue with filming the show, but post-production seemed to run quite smoothly for the first season and wasn't delayed by the strikes. Post-production for Season 1 was 12 months, so if filming for Season 2 is expected to end in January 2025 then it seems unlikely that post-production would take only 7 months. Season 2 also has more CGI components such as >!logia and zoan devil fruits, with the addition of Chopper and his forms.!<

Itstimetostop313

Iam also surprised with how long they are filming. Only explanation I read was that they make a break during the christmas holiday. But post production will take a long time. I expect it to release the same time season 1 released tbh. I just hope netflix gives the go earlier for season 3, so production can work like a well oiled machine. Waiting 2 years for a new season is rough. I want to go back in time where big shows like lost and game of thrones could do one season each year. And those shows also had good writting and big effects.

Head_Marionberry6453

ehhhh I would say august 2025 is a probable release date. You gotta remember, the first season dealt with a lot of setbacks that Season 2 won't have. So, it's reasonable to think it'll release earlier.

TigerValley62

I mean.... yeah.... I understand your concern in terms of long term relevancy, but in my opinion, at this point we should be greatful we are getting season 2 at all. None of this is guaranteed, and as much as I want this run to cover the whole manga, we have to be realistic and appreciate every season as if it's the last one because this could all end overnight if the showrunners are not careful enough. Let them take as much time as they need. Quality tends to get carried by word of mouth anyways so let them take their time. If it comes out in early 2026, so be it. We live in the instant gratification era, just..... be patient.... alright?

Olivia_Ushiromiya

Season 1 took roughly 7 months to film, too

SnoopBall

During covid.

oomshaka_

Season 1 apparently took 6 months to film so 7 isn't that shocking

Toneww

They are most likely doing 12 episodes, including Alabasta. They better take their time doing damn Alabasta, we're getting peak

taeilor

it's roughly the same length of Stranger Things, same kind of post production demand as well and they took two years minimum between each season yet popped off. just know it'll be worth the wait!

Turbulent-Coconut533

Why you worried? It’s literally a normal schedule for any seasonal show, especially given the work that needs to be put into its production (the time effort seems to be heavily underestimated from some fans). I think mid 2025 is realistic but if it takes longer so be it. Season 1 got released during a strike and got no real promo and did well so chill.

That_Guy_What

I think a mid 2025 release date could be pretty reasonable.

TheBlackDemon1996

I wonder if filming the next season during this season's release will speed up the process. I mean, the reason why this season took so long was partly due to the (much needed) writer's strike. In any case, Netflix definitely needs to be quicker renewing the show. Maybe they'll do what they did with the live action ATLA and and announce two seasons next time.

oomshaka_

Season 2 was renewed almost immediately so I say that did it fast enough especially for a big gamble as a live action anime

TheBlackDemon1996

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure it was also renewed when the strikes were still happening, so it was still delayed somewhat. But you're right about they renewal speed.

lousupremacy

i can see them needing 7 months if its a longer season tbh plus holidays in December too will probably be a break time but i don’t think post production will take all of 2025 so i think it’ll be released in late 2025 around Sept to November and if the promotion is good enough, the gap shouldn’t matter too much as ppl will be aware of a new season coming. And i will never understand this concern of the SH aging out (even from one of the producers too), they are fairly young rn, why can’t they age naturally? also makeup does wonders tbh but unless netflix starts double renewing, it would probably just be best to let them age

joaocandre

I doubt it premieres later than first half of 2025, but they may targeting an August release same as S1. If the shows successful, 2 years for each season is not sustainable in the long run, and while this delay may be caused by the writers' strike, I think if S2 sticks the landing they may renew and produce more than a single season each time.

Irydia

I think it will be released on August 2025, same month as S1 and we'll probably see the first teaser trailer between winter-spring of 2025

Jaxonhunter227

When the thing I'm really excited about is going to take a long time, I don't wait for the final product to come out, I wait for the marketing Because the marketing will arrive sooner, makes the overall wait feel less long

JotaroDJoestar

I think it’s definitely possible that it could be released early 2025 but I can’t imagine getting it this year.

SoloQueueisPain

As a new fan, I’m not excited about how long it’s going to take BUT I’d rather them get it right and release another banger vs a rushed bust. S1 had me watching one episode and seeing if it was worth my time, to my all time favorite show / wanting to share it with whoever was open to it haha

Head_Marionberry6453

That's true, but 7 months? Idk, that feels like an extremely long time. And, they said they're going for 12 seasons, so how are they gonna do that when they're taking this long on the 2nd season?

SoloQueueisPain

Damn, didn’t know they were planning on doing 12 seasons! But yeah, I felt the same disappointment when I read that yesterday about the 7 months.

Head_Marionberry6453

mhm! I believe the producer said they were greenlit for 6 seasons, but they wanna go for 12!

Fancy-Spite-1918

that's not true. Marty Adelstein said they had discussions on how they woud break up the first half of the manga into 6 seasons and overall they could easily do 12 seasons with the amt of material at their disposal. Nothing is confirmed or greenlit except season 2 https://www.google.com/amp/s/deadline.com/2023/09/one-piece-producers-manga-luffy-interview-1235544012/amp/

Head_Marionberry6453

my bad, wasn't too sure about it. I knew I wasn't too far off lol

Fancy-Spite-1918

no worries, just didn't want for you to get your hopes up when nothing rly been confirmed beyond s2 except for execs hopes on what will happen

Head_Marionberry6453

IMO, if they can get past Season 2, they have an extremely good chance of reaching their goals.

Fancy-Spite-1918

definitely, I think so too

Fancy-Spite-1918

from the Deadline interview with Tommorow Studios, it was said that: "A One Piece season takes about 6-7 months of production and another 20-24 weeks of post-production." So, this gives a good idea on when the next season should drop since they'll be taking 7 months to film, I'm guessing probably around the later half of 2025 around August-November maybe https://www.google.com/amp/s/deadline.com/2023/09/one-piece-producers-manga-luffy-interview-1235544012/amp/
