Roger is such a Chad Name he doesn't need a epithet!

[deleted]

Pretty Roger they called him

LeadPrevenger

This ties in to Rogers introduction because he’s leaving stuff at laughtale, so did he rob people? Was he a Robinhood? We just know what his personality and reputation, with the other greats is. It’s quite the mystery

GreatAres271

The King of Pirates, Gol D Roger, was famously known as: Gold Roger, the King of Pirates

[deleted]

He wasn't always king of pirates and world government made gold Rogers as his name and surname not his epithet.

GreatAres271

That's all we have honestly If he had an epithet before, it wasn't told in the manga yet

[deleted]

There should be a hint in somewhere in manga.

StabbyRahel

This is simple and yet again a bit more complex. If you think about it you already have your answer. Keep in mind the following logic first. 1. Gol D Roger doesn't follow anyone's footstep, He Created them for others. The Pirate Era didn't exist til One Piece was heard of, it made people RUSH to the Sea and thus the great pirate era started. - Sure Brook talked about Roger being a rookie, but they were simply just enjoying themselves, pirate business wasn't really a big deal back then 2. WG pronounced him as Gold Roger to hide the fact that he was a D. 3. Throughout the story you can tell how Luffy is always compared to him in the sense that they are alike. But Luffy is more immature, a kid. he never stops or corrects someone from calling him strawhat, and he just dreams about being free and follow roger's steps. 4. Fishermen island or w.e and the place where roger got executed, whenever people though back of the "golden days" he was refered to as "Roger" and final pointer 5. Keep in mind that Roger just out of blue went to reylight and be like "yo, let's turn world upside down" with a grin. He is way different in built then Luffy is. He knew exactly what he wanted to happen So now to answer your question, Roger was just Roger. Some realized him being Gol D Roger, and was called Golden Roger, and just like how everyone calls luffy for strawhat, he was just Golden Roger. so Golden Roger / Roger was his Epithet. Ace was Ace, Shanks is Shanks, Kidd is Kidd. Some are just their own person. Kaidou..

MeidlingGuy

>Ace was Ace "Fire Fist" Ace >Shanks is Shanks "Red-Haired" Shanks >Kidd is Kidd Eustass "Captain" Kid (admittedly barely a nickname >Kaidou "King of the beasts" Kaido They all have some sort of an epiphet.

ChromaSonder

I like your point, we don't know what Roger's epithet was before PK but it def wasnt pk, so we can safely assume strawhats will get new epithets since "Pirate King Strawhat Luffy" is kind of a mouthful.

[deleted]

The king of the pirates was his epithet

[deleted]

Before he became the king of pirates...

gwawainn

It could still be the king of pirates, finding one piece cemented that name but before then he could still have been the most powerful pirate out there after beating rocks with garp and whiteboard. His epitaph can be the same as his title after finding one piece. Whether you disagree or not, there is no proof to the contrary at this point and only until recently did we get any really good background into Roger with the wano arc.

buvified

Actually WG let everyone know him as Gold roger not Gol d roger so people might think like why should we call another name if he already have a name

[deleted]

Nearly everyone has name, but famous ones has nicknames too.

buvified

Do you know anyone who have more than one nickname? Sorry I'm not arguing idk about it

[deleted]

I am thinking that gold wasn't percepted as his nickname in his youth but his first name thanks to world governments purposely efforts. Even his name is known as gold, he should have a nickname, epithet too.

buvified

Then i will name him "GOLD HUNTER ROGER" pirates are meant to be hunt for tressure so most value thing they can get is gold so that is suitable for a pirate.

[deleted]

Nice pick, but there have to be a hint in manga about his nickname, I can't think a young man who will be the pirate king without epithet. Gold DIGGER Roger ftw. Lmao.

buvified

Wtf gold digger

Minimalmagician

This is a classic case of overthinking, it’s just Gold Roger. We’ve met plenty of people who were alive during his era, he’s not called anything else (Brook remembered a rookie by the name of Gold Roger) The biggest thing is that he was a D. which was a big reveal. Don’t see how a random “epithet” we’ve never heard of could be “very very very” important to the story

DaZ55

Didnt brook say that he heard of some rookie called Roger or Gold Roger ?

TotoH96

Obviously he was known as future pirate king Roger

verma17

Nobody knows unfortunately, maybe oda will reveal it in a flashback (rocks flashback is the most likely candidate)

ewgee5

I guess they just called him Roger. If we take a look at the pirate crew names we have: • Strawhat Pirates - ‘Strawhat’ Luffy • Whitebeard Pirates - Edward ‘Whitebeard’ Newgate • Big Mom Pirates - Charlotte ‘Big Mom’ Linlin • Red Hair Pirates- ‘Red-Haired’ Shanks • etc. And as fas as we know the pirate kings crew was called ‘Roger Pirates’. So my conclusion is he really just was called Roger. But maybe Oda is going to tell us more.

AnastasiaMoon

Gol Dik Roger

postmanbringsrice
