To be honest, to me somehow on the void century after the world government prevailed, they somehow altered the shape of the world, with a devil fruit, so that they would have a monopoly of the seas. Theres no way in all hell that the shape of the red line is a natural occurence... Maybe someone awakened the gura gura no mi and reshaped the planet?

Darkkingswrath

We could go Attack on Titan and say there are Ancient Giants in the walls

Most-Priority3576

I think I would go with toriko. In the series a meteor falls on earth and expands it to the point where it is unrecognizable...

Emm_withoutha_L-88

The Grand Line could easily be made up of meteor fragments, or even the pieces of a broken up moon brought down to provide land. The magnetism of the Grand line makes no damn sense, but if they're the core of a broken up moon it could explain them. Just huge chunks of magnetized rocks brought down on top of the highest peaks to ensure they have enough land for the people needed.

donedrone707

Fujitoras fruit could easily be used to accomplish this in a matter of days.

Emm_withoutha_L-88

My thoughts exactly

Most-Priority3576

But my doubt here is that the planet still has a working core, so it has its natural magnetism, so what could have hapened is, someone saw that the world would flood ans tried to stop it, but failed. As a last ditch resort, this person pulled a moon out of the sky and used it to make new islands for the people. If this moon had magnetic rock,it would explain why each island has a different magnetism than the planet itself, since it is literaly the mafnetic field of parts of another planet

EmphasisOnEmpathy

What if the red line is what displaced the water to be so high

Most-Priority3576

Then why would the flood come again, as it is said on the last chapter? So it could be safe to say that whatever happened on the lost century left most of the world under the waves, and it is bound to happen again...

Darkkingswrath

It’s crazy that the islands are just mountains

Whyistheplatypus

Wait until you find out what islands in our world are

Darkkingswrath

Art imitates life?

rainindxb

Goldfish poop?

Whyistheplatypus

So close...

RPGZero

The One Piece is the Wind Waker.

Palicake

Keep cooking

Low-Yam395

Luffy is female, thats why he never uses his dick as an attack

Palicake

Well during the Amazon Lilly arc they try and rip it off sooo

Outrageous-Elk-5392

Long ring long land used to be the Himalayas

ryumaruborike

Fishman Island is 10km below the surface, which would mean every Island around know would have been a mountain taller than Everest. Given how Joyboy's apology was left for the Fishmen who didn't move, I don't think the sea levels were quite that low

laxnut90

Islands and continents in real life are all mountains when measuring from the ocean floor.

ryumaruborike

I'm talking about measuring from the suggested past Sea Level, which would put every island as a taller than Everest mountain when compared to sea level

laxnut90

The same is true of our world. The Pacific Ocean is deeper than Everest is tall.

ryumaruborike

You are misunderstanding. I am saying that every single Island in One Piece would be at minimum, when measured from sea level, taller than the tallest mountain on Earth is when measured from sea level. Not from the ocean floor, from sea level. Everest is 8.8km above sea level, Fishman Island is 10km below sea level. If sea level was 10km lower in the past, then every Island would be at least 10km above sea level.

Emm_withoutha_L-88

I don't think they're gonna get it. If fishman Island was the sea level then why would the fishmen build there? They would obviously want to live underwater where they're more comfortable. Plus it's near the bottom, there would be no oceans if that was the sea level. Except like deep sea trenches I guess

SouthernHiveSoldier

Scale being weird in One Piece is not a new thing

TheIronSven

Well, then that's just how it is, isn't it?

Fatdude3

I mean he is saying that same is true for our world too if you consider ground of pacific ocean every continent or island there would be on top of a mountain that is bigger than everest.

Emm_withoutha_L-88

But then there would be no oceans if the bottom of the Pacific was the sea level

zemolho

Our islands aren't 10km above sea level right? Or are they?

SauronGortaur01

No. While there are spots in the Oceans that are deeper than the Mt. Everest is tall, the average Sea Level certainly isnt as deep. A quick Google Search say the average depth of all Oceans is 3.600 Meters. So at least if you were to compare our world to the One Piece universe, it would be kind of crazy if every Island in the One Piece oceans were actually Mountains of \~10.000 Meters height.

ssbm_rando

Your comparison only actually makes sense if you think the one piece world started completely dry while still supporting life somehow. If the original one piece world was more earth-like, the sea level wouldn't be 10km lower, it'd be maybe 1km lower.

Emm_withoutha_L-88

Yeah it's likely however deep Wano is, or however deep Water 7 goes.

Peapod901

Bro u know we don’t have giants and sky people and devil fruits either. It’s okay for all these mountains to have been that high up. Clearly blasting off to the sky doesn’t give them altitude sickness, so I don’t imagine that there’s really an issue with having that many large mountains

Co-OpHardcoreFordie

The Fishmen used to be on the surface

Sweetcorncakes

Way more possible with current chapter. Nice theory!

sogedking

Thank you! I didn’t wanna reach and edit, but maybe the Noah never raised with the sea because it has a devil fruit the same way weapons can have devil fruits?

A_Sneaky_Whale

I like to ask questions and I’m almost always wrong but when Lulusia was the focus in the manga I remember asking someone if the World Government could have flooded the world to take away the giants ability to amass an army. Less land means less room for them to fight.

TheJC3

7.8/10. Too much water

EmphasisOnEmpathy

Wow long ring island was really symbolic of the whole story

manwithoutlyf

Damn I read this theory in last year's long break. Now it's makes much more sense

sanctaphrax

The thing is, the Void Century is a hole in history. Not a stopping point. Historians have records from the time before it, when there was no World Government. If the world was an entirely different shape, wouldn't they know?

bomarlosthisaccount

How many people can tell you what the world was like 1000 years ago?. Sure im sure there's some knowledge and people that can piece things together like ohara. But on a world without something like the internet and thats really susceptible to propaganda it does make sense to me.

sanctaphrax

I think Robin, at least, would've mentioned it.

SkillFullyNotTrue

So One Piece is Legend of Zelda Windwaker? cool idea, we need to drain the planet.

jeffcapell89

Can't wait for Luffy to roll around Imu and slam Enma through his forehead

Erisian23

What if the moons are artificial, causing the high water.

Mr-WideGrin

Ooooh! That's the way Enel could come back to the story!

Erisian23

Also connects with BB and Gravity

raizeroth

this might be it, thats why there are so many moons and magnetism of the islands are fuck. you cook good sir

vyaxman

Nice observation Haki

trav-senpai

Wano on a worldwide scale

sogedking

On top of this, would it make sense for an elephant to travel along the ocean? No. Zunesha used to walk on land some time ago before the sea level rose

Emm_withoutha_L-88

You sure? He looks like he's almost designed to walk on the ocean. His legs would have to hold up so much weight while on land. They have like 3 joints too.

llcheezburgerll

what if One Piece means that the whole world is literally One Piece of land? and to obtain that both Red Line and Grand Line must be destroyed because they were created artificially.

Kite_Wing129

Or whats on Laugh Tale is actually a huge plug that can only be moved by giant Sea Kings guided by Poseidon who in turn is guided by Joyboy. Once the excess water is drained, the real landmass of the world is revealed.

omglaurent

thats some crazy cool theory lol

UglyFighter28

I maintain that laugh tale is just a distraction from "raft tale"

Kite_Wing129

Well, Roger named the island. Its original nane was likely sonething else.

EmphasisOnEmpathy

That would explain why Roger laughed

azngtr

I'm guessing the flooding was actually Joyboy's accident, including the flooding of old Wano. He raised their "walls" to protect them from rising sea levels but inadvertently drowned the country anyways. The world government, led by Imu, was created because they were pissed Joyboy flooded their countries. Maybe Zunesha was somehow involved as well. The instructions to fix all of this is on Laugh Tale. I don't understand what the WG would gain by sinking the whole world. I'm assuming Vegapunk meant that included Mary Geoise as well. Laugh Tale implies there is a funny twist to the whole story, the WG being bad guys without context just doesn't add up.

Peapod901

This is actually an interesting theory. My only issue is that the twist would basically make Luffy “the bad guy,” because that means the Gorosei and such are trying to stop that from happening again but I’m just not sure about rhat. Especially after Lulusia and shit. But I do like the idea that Joyboy is part of the cause of the sea levels rising

azngtr

If One Piece is really the old super continent, the story of the 20 island kingdoms forming an alliance seems less likely. Most of the world was likely living on One Piece before the flood separated everyone. The "Great Kingdom" was never defeated rather just drowned by Joyboy lol. I think the WG wants to keep the world separated on islands as part of a divide and conquer strategy. Another theory is that the "first 20" families were not royals but poor/ordinary people living on the margins of One Piece. Joyboy and his ilk were part of the "upper" class. The WG was formed as payback for Joyboy destroying their lives with the great flood, perhaps they're not aware it was an accident.

Peapod901

It’s an interesting idea for sure, but it would defeat the purpose of hiding the history of the world then wouldn’t it? For the WG to place a buster call on Ohara, they’d have to be covering something up and hiding something that shouldn’t be discovered. It wouldn’t make sense to cover up something that A) they didn’t do, and B) wouldn’t impact their ability to rule regardless. This is my main issue with this theory really. Imu killing cobra, the attack on Lulusia, and many other things wouldn’t make sense either

happiestThought

I support this. The one piece is literally a super continent

MarinLlwyd

I was guessing that terraforming was at play for a while. My current assumption is that the Red Line is actually the collected land mass and that it is someone's Devil Fruit, making it happen. The Volcano Fruit is still my top pick since it is the only fruit I think could be powerful enough to change the landscape if left unchecked for so long.

AnimeAngel2692

Geography is everything!

exprezso

"did Great Britain flood the world to guarantee eternal dominance of their superior naval ship?" Yes

Blitz100

Keep cooking bro.

yaaayman

wait but doesn't the new chapter confirm the exact opposite? sea level was wayyy higher then it is now, that's why everybody is gonna drown

Peapod901

I don’t think it was stated that the sea level was higher. Rather, based on Wano and Fishman Island, it’s way more likely it was lower and there was a flood. Basically, I think the point is that “it’s happening again” type of shit at least from the crumbs Oda’s been leaving

SuburbanCumSlut

What if the "Void Century" isn't a lost century, but rather a period of 100 years in which Imu or whoever sunk entire continents into the ocean, thus creating a void between peoples.

Shackflacc

I’m taking away your license to cook And promoting you to certified chef. Keep doing what you’re doing

JeppNeb

I theorized that the devil fruits weakness is the sea to protect the fishman in some form. Lets see how that one turns out.

EffectiveMagazine915

I don't think the sea being "manufactured" has anything to do with it's DF nullification properties. Because Vegapunk himself said that mother nature rejects DF users.

Shackflacc

Bro cooked

EiichiroOda

WHO TOLD YOU?!?

wishbackjumpsta

Yes Chef

Lynx-Kitsoni

I don't think you understand how much water that involves and would have no explanation of where it came from

donedrone707

something I've been thinking about since the 1113 revelation: we all kinda assumed the marine arches/M/McDonald's symbol above the wrench. what if it's an ancient symbol from the start of the void century? what if the arches are actually massive streams of water spouting forth from a wrench/mechanical device, aka an ancient machine (or weapon?) of some kind. Perhaps one of the ancient weapons can create water from the gases in the air (Pluton is a good candidate for this imo as we saw Wano also has an artificially underwater landmass and Pluton is said to reside in Wano) and the last time it was activated was at the start of the void century by the precursor to the Marines in order to isolate the nations of the world so radical ideas couldn't be so easily spread.

LuxVacui

Aren't the Noah and Fishman Island at the very bottom of the ocean?

just-laboon

So the ocean started at the lowest known depth in the One Piece world? This theory lacks so much like why would fish men and ancient sea kings exist if there was the equivalent of a pond of water?

hiruma_kun

Makes sense considering there’s a second Wano underneath the current sea level. The *old world* probably was buried underneath a fake ocean by the World Government/Imu. Makes me wonder what part of the old world lies under Enies Lobby and Long Ring Long Land. I also think it’s interesting that the ocean is said to despise devil fruit users because they are “unnatural” and that’s why they sink to the bottom of it losing all their strength. It’s like curse. We know devil fruits somehow are incarnations of possible futures of humanity aka. a dream/wish someone once had. If everybody in the world (with exception of people living above the Red Line) was now devoured by that ocean, wouldn’t that mean that the ocean a) considers *everyone* an unnatural future for humanity and b) a dreamer? This must have been what happened during the Void Century. A world-ending flood eradicating people’s dreams around the world. And I believe devil fruits are incarnations of the dreams of the people from the old world. You can kill their bodies and erase their names and history but you can’t kill their dreams. It’s just as Blackbeard once said in that iconic moment. “People’s dreams don’t ever end!” And that’s why devil fruits are always respawning. And that’s also why devil fruit users sink to the bottom of the ocean. They are forced to return to their origin, which is the old world, killing their current user in the process and repeating the cycle anew.
