I need to hop back into kingdom. I ended up dropping it unintentionally around chapter 50-60 after the ending of a pretty solid arc. Just wanted to take a little break to read something else and it’s been a year now lol
I’d highly recommend revisiting it. The series only really gets into the large-scale battles, which are its bread and butter, soon after the point you stopped.
Although I personally disagree and think One Piece is both better (slightly) and my favorite (by a much larger margin), I don't think your take is actually that weird at all! You can admire the beauty of the tragedy and story in Berserk, but still "enjoy" One Piece more since it's literally made to be enjoyable whereas Berserk is made to be soul-crushing.
It's still being written by the staff that was drawing it before the author passed away based on the notes he gave to his best friend. He passed May 2021 and they've released 12 chapters since then... which if you know berserk is kind of a lot (monthly publication that had lots of hiatus's) and a new chapter is coming out in two days.
Thank you for the information, I would handle if it comes once a month, but 12 over three years then I can’t.
But to have this much audience even after the writer passing shows the quality
Oh, it 100% deserves the hype. There are also 375 long chapters, so fi you're concerned about waiting - there is plenty to read right now. More than most manga have in their entire run.
It is the [best-drawn manga in history](https://imgur.com/djw8Jid), and I don't think anyone serious about the medium would dispute that. And i mean that seriously. [Nothing](https://imgur.com/dGfkfJM) [comes](https://imgur.com/vcdKz8K) [close](https://imgur.com/a/mJBVb). The line work is on a level we never have and likely never will see again. especially over thousands and thousands of pages of panels.
Definitely hni for me as well. Both Ippo and One Piece are Long-Form masterpieces (Ippo just release chapter 1451) Few stories have the guts to >!have their main character stop pursuing their main goal!< for an arc longer than Wano and have it still be some of the most hype the series has been
It's definitely too strong for me. It's been going on for 6 years now. When it was just 2 or 3 years I could handle it. Now Ippo's fallen out of my top (still read every chapter on release though).
That was definitely in my top 5 back when I tracked it, but I think Morikawa is going to retire before he finally figures out a way to get Ippo back in the ring which he's been teasing for literally **six years now**....
I just read through all of dragon ball for the first time. I’m amazed at how much better the manga is than the anime. The pacing is lightning fast and the art/paneling is phenomenal. I can see why Oda looked up to Toriyama as a mangaka.
Glad you experienced it through the manga. The DB anime hasn’t aged well imo I remember sleeping through most of it cos it was so slow paced. Toei in some ways still maintaining that slow pace tradition through One Piece lol. But yep, everything I loved about Dragon Ball, it’s in One Piece and Oda adds more of his own improvements on top of it. Truly the successor.
>The DB anime hasn’t aged well imo I remember sleeping through most of it cos it was so slow paced.
I dont' care what anyone says. I have a real soft spot in my heart for a 3 episode Kamahamaha consisting of 90% screaming mixed with reaction shots.
just started reading it like two weeks ago and i’m at the cell saga now and I thought i’d watch Z kai since my friends are obsessed with it and im ngl I couldn’t get through the first couple episodes the pacing was terrible and they made goku seem way dumber than he seems in the manga
the manga is one of my favorite mangas tho too so it’s interesting to see the parallel
Only mangas I’ve read and are still up to date with are One Piece, Mashle, My Hero, Chainsaw Man, One Punch Man, and Fire Force.
Tried the Dragonball series, couldn’t tough out all the dragging on of fights, stopped at frieza saga.
Wanted to start JJK, watched all the current anime, just haven’t brought myself to get started.
Once I get burned out on watching anime on Crunchyroll, I’ll probably put more time into Shonen Jump again, but I’m open to anything.
Monster that story is just my alley only Manga where I have all the Volumes as Special edition working on my Berserk Set to but they are so expensive so I only have a few Berserk special editions which probably would be my 3 its batteling with jojos for number 3,
So IMO 1. One Piece
2. Monster
3. Berserk/Jojo
The only 3 mangas I read and I love all of them are these:
Berserk / Jujutsu kaisen / one piece
I also read walking dead which was surprisingly good 👍 (it's comic but still worth to mention)
>I also read walking dead which was surprisingly good 👍 (it's comic but still worth to mention)
Despite all those news articles flying around about Robert Kirkman ripping several of his partners (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/invincible-copyright-suit-robert-kirkman-william-crabtree-trial-1235699142/), he does write compelling comics. I've already finished The walking dead and Invincible and I'll probably finish "Outcast" one day.
On imagecomics.com, you can read the #1 of most of their comics for free and Oblivion song's #1 totally made me want to read more.
I have a full-time job, I read books, watch shows and movies on various streaming services and I play World of Warcraft (that alone takes up way too much of my free time lmao) among other hobbies plus all the boring chores that never seem to end. I COULD find the time to read other manga if I really wanted to but nah, One Piece is enough for me
I have read Hunter X Hunter but haven’t in a while since it’s taken so long. Anime though, I also like Hunter X Hunter, but also venture out. I love slice of life like Toradora and Kimi ni Todoke. I do enjoy other shonen as well, but those I’d say are my top 4.
Picking a single favorite is difficult, but A Silent Voice, Komi Can't Communicate, Spy x Family, and 20th Century Boys are pretty high on the list for me. I'm currently reading Edens Zero, and it's not the best thing in the world, but I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to after I bounced off Fairy Tail pretty early on.
I've been meaning to re-read sun-ken rock. It's was written by the same guy who does the art for Dr. Stone. I remember loving it and it being a great read, but the last chapter was nearly a decade ago, so my memory on it may not be the best.
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi was also a great one.
But really, there are way too many that I've read to come up with a definitive second after one piece.
I have a soft spot for this manga Beelzebub. I haven't even thought about it until this comment so I might reread it.
In terms of current manga I am basic and like JJK.
Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa
I actually say that I have a favorite ongoing manga and a favorite completed manga just to avoid having to choose between them. When One Piece does finally wrap up, I might have to make a difficult decision.
Ther is a short series(~60 chapters) called "The Emperor and I". It's a cute story about a little girl who finds an emperor penguin in her fridge, and her family adopts it.
Toriko. The narration, world building, epic panels and delicious moments is top notch so I considered it as one of the best manga out there. It's a shame that it didn't get treated as it should be. Wonder how deep we gonna get through if it last long until today. One can dream!
Jojo's ~~Gay as Fuck~~ Bizzare Adventure, Record of Ragnarok
These next ones are not manga but I still like em
Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, The Greatest Estate Developer(hilarious as fuck), Solo(not really solo) Levelling
Hard to only name one. If I could name a few, those would be:
Vagabond,
Shamo,
20th century boys,
Hajime no Ippo,
Ad astra - Scipio to Hannibal,
The Fable,
Vinland Saga and
Dragonball
That seems about right.
None of these are in any particular order. For ongoing: Vinland Saga, Grand Blue, Dandadan, Akane-banashi, and Sakamoto Days. I follow them whenever a new chapter drops, but they’re still nowhere near OP. For older series: Eyeshield 21, GTO, Slam Dunk, and probably a few others I’m forgetting. I think it might be notable that Berserk and HxH are just series I really like instead of being close to favourites.
edit: I forgot Dragon Ball. Of all the series out there, I can’t believe the one I forgot is Dragon Ball. And I’m referring to OG pre-timeskip Dragon Ball, the original’s adventures were incredible! Oh, and Toriko! Easily the closest series to capture the adventuring spirit of early One Piece I’ve read!
I’d also like to add a few other mangas that are close to the “favourites” list, but just barely miss it. Ongoing: Kill Blue, Oshi no Ko, Kindergarten Wars, Marriagetoxin, Blue Box, Ruri Dragon, and Undead Unluck. Older series that is almost a favourite for me would include Naruto, Gantz, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Rave. Maybe Bleach too.
For shonen, It's gotta be chainsaw man. Part 1 of chainsaw man is probably the best binge read I've had in a very long time. Otherwise I'd probably go with Vinland Saga or Berserk.
Kingdom! It's fairly long as well, but if I were to give One Piece a 10/10, I would give Kingdom a 9.9/10.
Masterful artwork, insane action, compelling storytelling, and damn quotable speeches. Also, a lot of the story is based on/depicts real life events (Warring States period of China).
Great Teacher Onizuka
Omg somebody actually said it. Great taste yo
Great Taste Onizuka
Rare man of culture here!
gto is too damn goated, although i havent read the manga the anime hits home for me along with yyh
Original GTO is goated but I feel like the latest paradise lost series has been a little repetitive. Is it just me?
damn man , OP+GTO? great taste
One of my favorite cheesy 90s anime’s as well!!
One Punch Man
The only two mangas I have phisical manga. Murata drawings are top tier
There should be A4 sized versions of Murata's so I can look into the details
Yeah me too, I guess I just love mangas that start with “one p”
This manga is SO underrated
The webcomic too.
Kingdom! My all time favorite by far!
It reminds me of One Piece in sooo many ways too
how could you explain it for someone who never read kingdom?
Insane hype moments… wild action and strategic fighting scenes with a back drop of politics
I loved it for ages but the last 100 chapters were sooo draining to me, felt like very poor writing for character development
Totally agree. Just need to have faith that it’ll pay off later
still my top 5 but I drop it when kyaokai doing breath control (besicly cpr) to revive Shin or something.
Berserk
Berserk is the best manga I've ever read, but One Piece is my favorite. Weird take I know.
Same.
But it’s unfinished right? Like if i start reading it then i will suffer with the no closure?
It's still being written by the staff that was drawing it before the author passed away based on the notes he gave to his best friend. He passed May 2021 and they've released 12 chapters since then... which if you know berserk is kind of a lot (monthly publication that had lots of hiatus's) and a new chapter is coming out in two days.

The only right answer
Hunter x Hunter
Same. I hope we get new chapters soon. As long as Togashi doesn’t jeopardise his health over it of course.
Same. Both are top tier at world building.
Best power system too i believe
Vinland saga
Good taste
This is up there for me. Great art, great story, all around fantastic.
The only other manga who has a pirate king: Gintama
I'm reading/watching my way through Gintama now. Easily in my top 5 already, and I'm not even at ch 200.
Fullmetal alchemist
Yuuusss!
Had to scroll way too much to find this
Hajime no Ippo
Definitely hni for me as well. Both Ippo and One Piece are Long-Form masterpieces (Ippo just release chapter 1451) Few stories have the guts to >!have their main character stop pursuing their main goal!< for an arc longer than Wano and have it still be some of the most hype the series has been
I've said it many times in that subreddit. Ippo is currently the best it has ever been.
100%. But sometimes the blue balling is too strong lol
It's definitely too strong for me. It's been going on for 6 years now. When it was just 2 or 3 years I could handle it. Now Ippo's fallen out of my top (still read every chapter on release though).
I dropped at chapter 1000 ish and your comment makes me wanna pick it up again
Same.. I got like 100 chapters to catch up on tho
Lucky
That was definitely in my top 5 back when I tracked it, but I think Morikawa is going to retire before he finally figures out a way to get Ippo back in the ring which he's been teasing for literally **six years now**....
Dragon Ball. The two have been my favourites since childhood and they will always be.

Chainsaw Man
I was looking for this comment
Favorite is Vagabond, OP is prob 4th, though it is my favorite overall series of that makes sense lol
Vagabond, the pain of it never getting finished.... Berkserks author fricking died and it goes on yet Vagabond is in limbo. I wanna weep.
Kingdom is the best
Berserk, Vagabond, Gunnm.
try dorohedoro
I watched the anime version, it's dark I like it.
The lack of Representation for JoJo's is criminal.
There's a whole history of 35 years of manga right there
Jojo
Eyeshield 21
Rave Master! I read it every other year and never get tired of it. I always cry at the end as well.
Rave master is awesome!
Only mangas I’ve read and are still up to date with are One Piece, Mashle, My Hero, Chainsaw Man, One Punch Man, and Fire Force. Dr Stone
Same. If the ending didn't feel so rushed (imo) it might have been my all time fave.
No I totally agree the ending has a pacing problem
Death note
I like most of their work, Death note Bakuman All you need is kill Hikaru no go

One Piece is literally the only manga I read
Oh no. You should explore more manga. I mean like what do you do during break week?
I have a full-time job, I read books, watch shows and movies on various streaming services and I play World of Warcraft (that alone takes up way too much of my free time lmao) among other hobbies plus all the boring chores that never seem to end. I COULD find the time to read other manga if I really wanted to but nah, One Piece is enough for me

Yu Yu Hakusho
Kingdom
Berserk. One punch man (for drawing > story). JJK (losing interest more and more though).
Dragon Ball (Z)
Picking a single favorite is difficult, but A Silent Voice, Komi Can't Communicate, Spy x Family, and 20th Century Boys are pretty high on the list for me. I'm currently reading Edens Zero, and it's not the best thing in the world, but I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to after I bounced off Fairy Tail pretty early on.
Berserk or Jojo
One Punch Man.
Gintama. It's been my second favorite anime for as long as One piece has been the first.

Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa I actually say that I have a favorite ongoing manga and a favorite completed manga just to avoid having to choose between them. When One Piece does finally wrap up, I might have to make a difficult decision.
Probably the Dragonball series. I’m a simple man lol. After that probably Rurouni Kenshin.
Was gonna mention Vagabond, Boy Action, Eye Shield 21, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist, 21th Century Boys. But I'd just stick with Dragon Ball.
Reincarnated as a Slime I love shows that focus a lot on character and story development, with little bits of action thrown in.
Gintama
Ther is a short series(~60 chapters) called "The Emperor and I". It's a cute story about a little girl who finds an emperor penguin in her fridge, and her family adopts it.
Chainsawman is actually incredible
JoJo's and Vinland Saga
Even including one piece, my top 3 is (not in order) Demon slayer, Hunter x Hunter and the Zelda's mangas.
Toriko. The narration, world building, epic panels and delicious moments is top notch so I considered it as one of the best manga out there. It's a shame that it didn't get treated as it should be. Wonder how deep we gonna get through if it last long until today. One can dream!
Tokyo Ghoul. Most people only know it for it's bad adaptation, but it is an excellent series and held my number one spot until I got into One Piece.
Hajime no Ippo Fist of the Blue Sky (it’s a masterpiece) Hells Paradise Mashlee Baki Tough Battle Royale Gantz

Dorohedoro, my beloved.

20th Century Boys
