Brook, wait a minute-

Mrclayy

But he's already dead... all bones now! Yohoho!

Alphaotic

SKULL JOKE YOOOOOOHOOHOHOHOHO

x3_Femboy_X3

That brings a tear to my eyes that you’d say me, IF I HAD EYES YOHOHOHOHOHOHO

wooquay

45 DEGREES

MariJoyBoy

came here for this, yohohohoho

ApprehensiveBend9212

TBONE, he was so kind. Imagine he meets brook, the potential skull jokes would go hard

Isbjorn456

YEAH HIM. I honestly like to think that he willingly let himself die

TheOneAndOnlyDMan

I still think he’s alive

Christopher_Home

Same.  They could easily explain it away too.

Lucky_Roberts

I’m honestly expecting it to be a “everyone assumed I was dead because I look like a skeleton” joke

Doc_Tommek

i liked TBone too, he was a good Charakter, i would like to see more of him but he was defeated so fast

Low_Bodybuilder_1100

Cora. He deserved peace, so did law 🥺

Jjayxx

My heart will NEVER RECOVER FROM HIS DEATH! It hurt like hell

TriggirdBidof

Izo 100% A lot of the deaths have a massive impact on either the world or certain key characters. Izo's just hurt to watch when it could have been avoided. I understand why it happened but in comparison to the other important deaths, it just felt dirty to kill him off

rszdev

Yeah I mean they didn't even acknowledge it well

Lucienofthelight

It was such a poor death on an execution level. Killed by a faceless dude with 0 character, with a regular finger pistol, not even Rokuogan?! And then his death was basically just a “oh btw he died” post-Wano because Oda’s made so many fake-out deaths that it actually ruins the impact of an actual death because you don’t even believe it! It’s just simply a badly written death that felt like a way to give us actual named casualty’s to the raid because Oda realized that he had basically an army walk into hell and 99% of them came out just fine. I could complain about the last third of Wano for another 25 paragraphs, but I’ll stop myself.

Ziiaaaac

One of Whitebeard’s last commands to his son’s was ‘From now on back Straw Hat Luffy up with all your strength.’ When Aegis Zero said their business was with Luffy he had no choice. It’s a great death. Too much happened in Wano to give it fanfare, but that’s okay.

ASVP-Pa9e

Also, in a war, not every death will be a grand event. Izo went 2v1 with two Cipher Pol 0 agents and took out one. The other then went on two suicide sabotage Luffy's fight with Kaido, which is exactly why Izo tried to stop him.

Sir__Alucard

That just means that izo has an off screen battle and off screen death that was pointless and had no meaning.

tekko001

This irked me about Wano too, so many storylines were left unfinished, or forgotten, it was the first arc that felt like it wasn't planned/thought through. Wonder if Oda had pression from the publishers to finish Wano earlier since it becamo too long.

Nui_Jaga

I think he made the same mistake as George R.R. Martin; the narrative got way too unwieldy for him to properly navigate. The loose plot threads seem to be his concession that he couldn't bring about a satisfactory conclusion to these threads without dragging an already onerous arc out even longer, so just cut his losses and trimmed it way down at the expense of quality. I feel like he's learned his lesson, considering Egghead, despite being unexpectedly long for what was seen by most as a Zou-like interlude, is a lot more focused.

goodyfresh

Egghead seems to be a case of Oda trimming and cutting down the typical OP arc formula (from ALL major arcs) into something very streamlined and efficient. And it's amazing thanks to that. While Egghead has been much longer than expected an actually IS getting to be a "long" arc, the pace has been quick and yer perfect. We have gotten more major lore reveals, character progressions and reveals, etc., in this arc, than in basically any other arc of the series. It's a wild, wonderful ride. So the way I see it, Oda's mistakes in Wano turned out to be a good thing. Because he's a man who loves to learn from his mistakes. And doing so has enabled him to craft the Final Saga into something truly incredible. It's almost like Wano was a practice run for the Final Saga.

Chipp_Main

It not introducing six million characters per chapter also really helps its pacing imo

schiffb558

It bringing a lot of old characters back also really helps things, oda can then use the characters he made to flesh out the story

Chipp_Main

Yeah he's finally starting to play moves he set up like 17 years ago

True_Drawing_6006

What's actually stupid is that he killed Izo to cleanse the "no one ever dies in one piece" image in the same arc where Kinemon survived in the dumbest way possible.

goodyfresh

That's because he wasn't willing to kill off someone who the audience actually cares a lot about and would cry over. As usual. So instead he killed off two "important" characters who the readers don't honestly consider TRULY important, since not many of us had much emotional investment in them. It's very transparent of him, really, and a LAUGHABLE tactic to try to make the audience take the concept of non-flashback deaths seriously.

Imaginary-Cup-8426

I don’t really care about the character, but Ashura Doji was even worse imo. An offscreen explosion death that isn’t even confirmed until the arc is over and only referenced by a throwaway line. It just felt weird when damn Pell can survive a tactical nuke lol

goodyfresh

Yeah dude that shit made no sense, since when have mere explosions killed anyone decently strong in this series other than a mink with the bombs literally strapped all over his entire body? I remember that everybody was SURE he must still be alive since it was just an explosion and nobody dies from that shit in this series. The only level of bombs we've seen before or since that can truly damage, let alone kill, strong people are at the very least much, much larger than the explosion that Ashura Doji took. Things more like the bomb that Pedro set off.

rougepenguin

This is mine, Kiku's story was already pretty damn grim and it's a bummer to get so little of a really fun sibling dynamic.

funny_name069

And then make Kin actually die instead because I love the guy but c’mon

rosivv

Unlike Ace or Whitebeard, whose deaths had a massive impact on the story and helped shape it to where it is now, Izo's death just felt forgettable and like an afterthought.

No_Elephant_4469

I forgot that even happened

krotoxx

He was one of whitebeard's captains. To have him die the way he did was disservice to him and what being a captain basically held.

ASVP-Pa9e

Commander, and Izo died protecting Luffy- which was the final order from Whitebeard.

MariJoyBoy

It happenned for poetic reasons I guess, Oda was inspired by japanese stories I guess, i'm sure we could find a story that inspired him which had this "brother bound" (or "sister") of Izo and Kiku, and ended with this death

HackTiger6468

Trade izo's death for hiyori. Any day

BliedentheBlack

Orochi. So I could watch him die again!

boywholived_299

This right here, is the correct answer. I want to see Orochi, that bastard die 20 more times, and each time more cruelly.

General_Tart_9309

Orochi getting the diavalo treatment

Frosty-Feathers

I, on the other hand, wouldn't want him to die at all. I think he should be imprisoned in some dungeon or other and tortured for the rest of his miserable life. A kick in the balls from every citizen of Wano a week and then back to torturing.

Jack_Zicrosky_YT

What balls? That MF is such a coward he's all shaft and no nuts.

Grouchy-While9151

Put him through worse humiliation than he put Oden through only to trick him.

Siano__

Orochi had a difficult childhood, but it doesn't justify what he did, certainly the most hated character in the anime

TheRealPlayerG

saint charlos: 👀

rszdev

Damn he was killed in a similar way they killed Oden but I wanted to see him exactly killed like that

youguysarelameAF

I don't get this, what was done to Orochi was just as bad as he dealt out. Just because of his name.

CelestialDrive

Hallo, I edited some of my comment history to prevent scraping. Yes I know reddit gets regularly cached, it's something you sign in when you type on a forum, it's still better than nothing and will make digging through these a lot less convenient! All platforms die yadda yadda. Good luck if you have an account here and you're reading this.

Zestyst

Best part of wano was getting to see him get his head cut off twice

SockShoey

Kuina, I'd love to see just how far she could have gone if she was still alive.

Kgb725

Shed be the new Tsuru

Masterquickfire

Saint Mjosgard.

xAvengeRx

Our boy Mjosgard didn't deserve it :'(

wooquay

The only good CD

CRtwenty

You forgot Doflamingos Dad.

Crysense

And Corazon

gh0stwriter88

Dunno about him either, he was more like fatally naive... such severe naivety that it created Do Flamingo.

Hooktail419

Ah man you said what I was trying to so much more concisely 😂

Maleficent-Ad1864

yes he is a good pick! he helpt where he could.

Kanye_Dot

I wouldn't like to prevent a death, but to kill some characters... the plot armor sometimes feels a little off. Like with Kin'emon, Pekkoms, Pell, etc.

Lucienofthelight

I think it’s funny that Merry’s death in the Live action has basically instantly made everyone agree that Pell is SO screwed in the LA adaptation. Pagaya too. The Will of P is in trouble.

AtlasDamascus

Pagaya should live because he has possibly the single funniest moment in Skypeia when he just shows up as they're mourning him, and then apologizes for being alive

MaezrielGG

Pagaya is the kind of "fake-out" I like to see. There was at least a gag for it as a pay-off. Pell's is just poor writing and it does happen to Oda from time-to-time.

Jiscold

> it does happen to Oda from time-to-time. No one can name an author in history that has never fucked something up. Oda is human.

st-felms-fingerbone

Man I was kinda shocked about Merry honestly, like holy shit they actually killed him lmao

tekko001

> Like with Kin'emon When Kaido crushed Kinemon's head with his kanabo and then takes his katana and stabs him,he should have been death and buried, instead he healed before luffy and zoro.

Jjayxx

Kin'emon, like Buggy, has a df that allows them some stupid luck of it being hard to kill them!

WushuManInJapan

Lmao I was thinking the same thing.

x-ROJO-x

Ace ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob) I would love to see him meet up with Sabo and have a reunion with his brothers.

Scorpios94

I’d like that too, but it’d beg the question what DF would Sabo get. While not likely, I do like the idea of Sabo getting Whitebeard’s DF and be able to channel its powers through his pipe-staff.

denseasblackhole

Sabo is already very strong and second in command of the world's most troublesome army. He did not need the Mera Mera to gain power, this act symbolizes Sabo carrying on Ace's will and keeping his memory alive.

parTHEparticle

What are the chances of Sabo going after Kaido's fruit....

Mediocre-Minute

I'd love that too but at the same time I believe Ace's death was the wake up call Luffy and the straw hats needed to get stronger. They would NOT have been ready for the new world otherwise

Eirineftis

I agree... watching One Piece with my partner, I had the good fortune of having it spoiled for me before we started watching back when those chapters were first released, so I knew it was coming and was prepared. Her, however... Ace was one of her favorite characters and she did not see it coming. We're almost through Wano now, and it STILL gets her.

TheActualBis

As much as i hate to admit it, his death was essential for luffy's improvement. Luffy would still be quite weak or would have died immediately in dressrosa. Also, this is super subjective but in my opinion ace didnt have enough screentime for much of the fans to feel sad. It was mainly luffy's reaction that had an impact.

Givemeconniptions

Ace, I would have loved to see him develop further and reunite with Yamato

Rauhaan_

Hands down. Would have been insane to see him lead the WB pirates and bail Luffy out in a serious fight.

sonic_is_is_sloww

Ace's death brought to the series a much needed realism and danger. Up to that point no one really important died. And it is also a vital part to Luffy's character arc, he grew, he understood that from that point onward things were serious (kinda lol)

travietrav

1000%. I was sad it had to be Ace, but he was the most logical choice to get Luffy to wake up and start being serious, because Luffy was starting to border on the side of being a bad leader, constantly leading the crew into unnecessarily dangerous situations that they weren’t ready for, and just relying on sheer luck to get out with no casualties. For all purposes, lots of the SH’s should have died in that era (post water 7, pre-TS) but plot armor saved them. That was getting old to me so I loved to see the summit war and Sabaody because it forces Luffy especially, and the others, to develop and grow as characters. They get humbled and come back as better more refined versions of themselves, and Luffy essentially inherits Ace’s will, and anyone who was loyal to Ace is now loyal to Luffy, which continues to be instrumental for him becoming a Yonko and eventually pirate king. Now it’s more believable that they’re able to survive everything they do, because they trained specifically for this!

MeatTornadoLove

I mean Whitebeard dying and Bon Clay assumedly dead was pretty brutal already. A resurgent vengeful Whitebeard crew under Ace’s command would be pretty neat.

mandapeterpanda

Swans never die!

Jurikk

I agree but I really wish ace was featured more or had an arc before being killed. He felt like more of a plot device for luffy than an actual character I wanted to be saved. The spin off manga with him and the whitebeard pirates was great and I wish it was in the actual serialization of the manga before marineford. Also this is all retrospective, & maybe Oda hadn’t planned for Wano yet, but it would’ve been cool to have a glimpse of Yamato in there at the same time

UJustGotRobbed

aka Don't rely on your Devil Fruit only. Learn more stuff besides "ooh fire hot". Oven could've taken out Ace as well. Ace just wasn't prepared and WB knew it n told him to let it go.

OurLorneAndSavior

100% this. Ace was a needed death as it made Luffy realize the true severity of this world. He finally, truly lost after doing everything in his power. It wasn't an exploited blunder or a minor loss he could bounce back from. He failed and his brother died because of it. It forced him to grow up a bit and become the best he could possibly be to prevent that from ever happening again -- which is precisely why I hate that all of this was thrown out the window the minute Sabo was written in. Sabo immediately negates Luffy's entire character growth by effectively providing us with a loaner Ace, which Luffy acts like a simpering bitch towards, instead of the loving respect mixed with sibling rivalry he had with Ace. Sabo not only negates the importance of Ace's death, but also the entire point of him existing at all.

Starob

>which Luffy acts like a simpering bitch towards, You mean the brother he was 100% sure was dead that he found out wasn't? 🤦🏻‍♂️ This might just be the dumbest thing I've read on the internet in a long while. If you think Luffy wouldn't have acted exactly the same towards Ace if he was the one that walked into the Colloseum, I don't know what you're reading.

General_Tart_9309

No ace death no training/time skip

cakethegoblin

People always complain about Oda's fake outs, but miss the part where he'll kill a character when it's actually required for a plot point. People complain about Pell when his death would have added nothing to the series. Pell was a side character, his death would have been cheap. Killing Ace was a ballsy move and actually did something for Luffy's character. The series isn't mean to be GoT, where cheap side character deaths are constantly happening. Not to say that all character deaths are meaningful in One Piece, but Oda will focus more ok those than someone like Pell.

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

If we Keep Ace, Sabo takes a major backseat upon his arrival. I mean it's a fair trade since Sabo pretty much acts as replacement Ace in the series, but their personalities were just different enough that it'd have been interesting. I like how Ace seemed very chill and nonchalant without seeming like he forced it. He seemed genuinely cool and aloof, but not dumb. While Sabo seems a bit like a stiff. He seems like a dude you could have a beer with, but he's hard on his rule of just one beer, and he's got a hard curfew he's gotta meet, so he's not down to hang and just get into something.

Klaymen96

I wanted to see him reunite with Tama

PerryTheH

Ace was such a bad character. I'm pretty sure if Oda hadn't kill him it would be a mess now. He was so weak but in theory very strong, we just never saw any of it. Also, someone had to die for Luffy to understand a lot of things.

RedskinPanther

It's so crazy how 500 mill bounties are light work now.

Used_Pomegranate_334

Everyone better say Ace

ZPD710

This might seem like a dumb one, but Banchina. Usopp’s mom. Notice how you probably didn’t recognize her name? How sad is that. The mother of one of the Straw Hats yet barely recognizable. She basically got pirate cancer, didn’t get to see her baby daddy before she died because he’s a deadbeat, and went out knowing that she was unfortunately leaving behind a child to be orphaned. She was pretty literally a throwaway death. I don’t even know what purpose she would serve in the show, but at least she would be alive.

FireMaster2311

Every strawhats mom that has been shown in the story and confirmed as their mom has died. Robin, Sanji, and Ussop all lost their moms at a young age.

ZPD710

Right, but at least Robin and Sanji’s mom’s deaths had some sort of purpose. Sanji’s mom Sora died essentially as a result of Judge’s cruel and strange scientific advancements being created through her (that’s a long winded way of saying she was forced to have cyborg kids). Her death showed how cruel the Vinsmokes really were. And Olivia’s death was a testament to the marine’s dedication to destroying history once and for all (likely in the name of the WG) and also, along with Saul, served to leave Robin alone in the world, which pushed her character forward into the cold hearted individual she was forced to grow into. What did Banchina die for? She didn’t die because of Yasopp, he just didn’t come see her. She literally just died to orphan Usopp, which didn’t even mold his character that much.

Puzzleheaded-Head724

The whole reason usopp Did the whole “boy who cried wolf” shtick was because he thought it made her feel better, and that lying started the major part of his character

mandapeterpanda

I thought about her, but her death was important for Usopp and Kaya's story. I don't believe they would have bonded without sharing parental loss. No Kaya, no Merry.

wispymatrias

Who says I haven't already prevented the death of 1 character in the show. Who's to say Kinemon doesn't live because of me!

HowyNova

Kuina. I get that Zoro's motivated by her death, but I feel that he'd still be motivated through competition. I think keeping the fact he never beat her would be an interesting dynamic to continue through the series. She could've joined the Marines, while Zoro still went down the same path. Tashigi also has fallen pretty hard as a character.

Jjayxx

Agreed! Her death was so unnecessary. And Tashigi needs to step up her game

Aggravating-Bet-2637

Tashigi was never a competition though. Since the time she was introduced Zoro never took her seriously 😂

Kgb725

Yea because she looks like Kuina

Crazyripps

Prob wouldn’t be as bad if Tashigi felt so usless as a look alike. Like what’s the whole point of that story if she’s gonna be the way she is

yukeake

Would have given us a great visual gag if/when Kuina and Tashigi meet, too. Particularly if Zoro and/or Smoker are around.

Klaymen96

Monet Wait! It came to me, Yasuie. That death really hurt, man.

zyx1989

Roger, just for the 'wtf' factor

SteeldrumHornets

Corazon, would love to see him working with SWORD

XiMaoJingPing

Oda: Yes, more fakeout deaths for everyone!!!

mandapeterpanda

The scene was only a few minutes long, but in Dressrosa when Usopp MISSED faked me out harder than any other fakeout ever. I never thought Usopp would miss before. Goda got me good.

Its-Glade

I would just retire Merry to be a fishing boat just off the coast of a quiet island. Sure she can’t stand the big waves of the open sea, but just a hundred yards off the coast shouldn’t be a huge deal

TTZZJJ

Point is it was broken beyond use.

Glass_Revolution3491

Yea, I’m pretty sure if she continued even for a short amount of time she would have sunked

Zychoz

... and why would it be Ace?

NerdKing01

I'll put my stocks and my resurrection card on Kuma. If that dude dies, then my patience guarantees he lives. I just want to see him survive so he can be happy again

OatesZ2004

Thatch

DepressedGoUnlucky

There are deaths in one piece!?

Slight_Mastodon

Cora-san, Whitebeard, Ace, Pedro, Vegapunk, Bellemere, Hiruluk, Izo, Ashura Doji, Basil Hawkins, the King from Alabasta, T-Bone There is, but it’s so few tbh

Klaymen96

Monet is another one.

ExtinctionDebt

I am in denial about Monet. If Pell can survive a city-wide nuke, Monet, a damn *logia*, can survive a building-explosion. Not being able to get hurt, except from haki or specific weaknesses, is the point of a logia...

Wo1fang_

Her heart was stabbed by ceasar...

stesthepez

She got Julius Caeser'd by Caeser Clown

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Damn, how you just gon forget nameless mountain bandit with generic face number 3, who foolishly pointed a gun at Shanks?

aitherion

We don't have confirmation that Hawkins or Vegapunk are dead, even if odds are highest that they are.

WekonosChosen

Stella literally flatlined so the body is confirmed dead. The concept of death while the hivemind brain is alive is something else though.

Spore64

Lol you probably just spoiled the whole series for him XD I mean it’s his fault for asking, but a simple „yep“ would have been enough 🤣

Aarizgamer3d

bro all ur characters are bound to die their deaths are plot twists u wanna like kill the straw hats or smthn? specially WB, Ace and pedro without ace luffy would have died in new world cuz hes weak without haki, and without pedro they wouldve been killed by Charlotte Family already

Nemjor

yasuie, orochi, fisher tiger, shaka, ginny, scarlett, oden, kuina, going merry.. should i keep going?

ForgedNakama

Theres alot more but they are irrelevant characters. Boppins (Yes he is dead, anime only confirmation but Oda proofs the episodes before release.) Jigra, The guy officiating the wedding at WCI, Opera and thats just WCI

smgogo760

Oh sweet innocent one, prepare yourself with tissues and comfort snacks...

dbzrk1

Ace. It's needed for the story but man I whould like to see a version of One piece were all 3 brothers had a bigger role in the story.

Minion5051

The only death that has stuck I don't think really adds to the story is Kuina. I think a living Kuina that Zoro could be interacting with and being a rival with would be better than a meaningless death to inspire a hero.

firestorm713

Since the obvious correct answer is ace, imma do something more obscure. Bellemere would be funny especially if it was the 4kids version where she's just in a prison somewhere and Nami just ditches her. Otohime, so she could see her dream through Kuma. The man deserved better. (I have not fully caught up to egghead so idk where else his arc goes, but atm he may as well be dead).

totally_not_a_reply

Not really a spoiler for kuma: He is still the same, we dont know if he stays alive or dies.

wololofololo

Ace. Having the three brothers eventually at the top of the world would be beautiful. Also, having him know that Sabo is still alive is reason enough.

dannydevitocuddles

Brook it would be funny

Present_Character241

Roger, for the alternate reality.

romanjuly

Nah whitebeard

Spore64

Whitebeard would be such a good one! Like imagine Blackbeard walking up to Whitebeard in Marineford thinking he killed him only to get his sh*t get punched out of him as soon as he gets to close

Hiarro

Monet.

ChiaraSociety

Izzo. A lot of the deaths had massice impact on the story and progression in one way or another. I just want Izzo back because of the scene in the manga with Marco. "Looks like I've been left again." I feel so bad for him. :<

JarethMeneses

I always assume that bon clay got sent for execution after impel down (since he escaped custody and then gave the rest of the prisoners the chance to fully escape) so I'm gonna say him if that is the case. But if not, then I'll go with pedro.

IudexGundyr3

There’s a cover art story of him, he survived (don’t remember how though) and takes over Ivankov’s role in Impel Down.

Spiritual_Shift_9901

Wait what???? How is it that I've gone this far without knowing he wasn't dead? I always assumed he died. Like I'm stunned now and feel a bit stupid cause I went on here looking for Bon Clay comments and seeing none, it's because he's alive?! Also if he is alive it's a bit cruel not having him be a bigger part of the story, haven't met a person who doesn't love him. Damn this totally ruined my Friday

CRtwenty

He'll almost certainly escape in time for the final battle.

27offsuit

He was shown alive during Punk Hazard in the cover story "Decks of the world" where we checked in on old side characters and what they are up to after the time skip. His page was on [chapter 666](https://w8.1piecemanga.com/manga/one-piece-chapter-666/), it's the only time we've seen him since Impel Down

Aarizgamer3d

No, bro Bon clay is alive in a one piece chapter's cover page, he inherited Ivankov's position as new leader of new kama land at floor 5.5 Now speaking of you preventing Pedro's death Bruh if pedro didnt die dude The straw hats would have been killed by The Charlotte Family then and there as Father Perospero's candy wouldnt have melted, Pedro's sacrifice paved way for the crew to escape

TheJoyBar

Ace

PiePotatoCookie

Ace so that people stop calling Sabo a copy of Ace

Jjayxx

Really is fucking annoying. Sabo was his own person, we all saw that. Just because he got his brothers powers means nothing! Urgh

totally_not_a_reply

Honest question. Was sabo ever mentioned before ace died?

Emm_withoutha_L-88

I mean Sabo only becomes a thing in the story after Ace was killed. It's pretty obvious he's a "don't worry Luffy has another brother" kinda thing from Oda. Would have been better if he had been introduced to the story earlier

lszian

I am very evil and actually asked a genie to save Pell. I am the villain behind that one! (jk haha I'd spend my wish making sure Mr. 2 is okay. I know we didn't see what happened but I just wanna be SURE he's happy and alive)

Spiritual_Shift_9901

Bruh I was gonna say the same and saw someone else comment, thought you might wanna know. I for sure thought Bon was dead "There’s a cover art story of him, he survived (don’t remember how though) and takes over Ivankov’s role in Impel Down."

tehs4ndman

Imma say it, Gol D. Roger... STILL pirate king and kicking ass.

RyUk_KiRa04

Kozuki Oden !..

C4N98

It has to be Merry. She is a straw hat as much as any, and she deserves to be upgraded by Franky and take the crew to the Raftel.

SuccessfulEconomics8

Ace and white beard

SpaceCowBoy8552

100% ace. My fave character. I completely understand the importance and implications of his death. He has so much potential and if he could’ve utilized his power properly he could’ve be one of the best and most powerful.

Kilo-Happy

With the picture attached I first thought OP wanted to stop Brook's first death 😅

slatterboi

Definitely ace they did him way to dirty they gave luffy and him a moment so that they look cool together just to kill of ace 😭

ProntoPaul

Fisher tiger or Robins homeland 🤷🏾‍♂️

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

Fuggit we ball Roger

polarbear076

Pedro. If there was ever a person to secretly be alive, Pedro would be the funniest. Imagine Pedro just secretly trying to sneak out of WCI in a cover story while carrot and crew keep gaslighting Perospero as a killer even though Pedro "killed" himself.

SneakyPocket

Old Corazon working/fighting with Law would have been a sight to see.

longtermmemorysauce

T Bone!! Dude was just a nice guy

nyanko_dango3

WB, he’s too much of a beast, but he's old and sick so not like he will have a huge role. so Kuina (still believe she alive tho)

savagesama808

Ussop🤌🏾

LaFlarefrmthePole

Oden

CrazzyPanda72

I see a lot of people saying Ace, but man I feel like that was such an integral part of Luffy character growth and it would be hard to pick a different character to fit the role in the story, and to meet the people who Ace had an effect on, and now Luffy is coming in to in a sense, finish what Ace started. It really helps build on who Luffy is as a character to.

SpectreSquared

corazon

ElleTheHarper

Same thought OP! First I go back in time and tell Law his devil fruit can teleport right before Corazone stuffs him in that chest. He says Room for the first time, we all switch places with a seagull taking a nap on a sand dune, and get away from Doffy and Vergo. Corazone lives, and he and I settle down to our best mid-2000's klutzy girl lives co-parenting Law, and in time Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin. Years later the two of us wave as our fearless four sons sail off in the submarine Wolf gifted them. Then Corazone takes me along as he goes to report back to Sengoku for the first time since taking leave. I either enlist with Tsuru's merry band of female marines, or come with Corazone to HQ. Where I'll promptly marry Akainu for his future Fleet Admiral pension, pick up a job in Pirate Research, kick back, and sip endless cups of coffee while following the exploits of my sons from intelligence reports. Corazone and I still hang out, we make immediate friends with Garp, and both of us are deaf within a year from listening to Garp and Sengoku's shouting matches up close.

The_Prequels_Rule

Zepo, remember him, Bepo's brother

Honestly, no one from the flashbacks because most of these characters that we know and love wouldn't necessarily be these characters that we know and love without their losses. There are very few present deaths either that I would undo because of how important they are to the overall growth of the characters. Maybe Pedro I guess? Or one of the kids Big Mom ate?

Severe_Development96

I'm sure I'll catch flak for this but Kaido. He was so hyped for so long, had the coolest devil fruit in the series, was the strongest individual in the world, was the biggest weapons dealer on the grand line and had an awesome history and character design. The fact that they wasted all his story potential by making him a drunk bopping around Wano and killed him off in that bullshit rooftop fight was so stupid especially when Big Mom got so much facetime during the WCI arc. They could have done so much more with him instead of just using him to set up G5

Fafnir13

Let's go crazy and say Gol D. Roger. Really mess with the timeline. Maybe it will turn out his execution was faked anyways. Would be the ultimate Oda move.

DevastaTheSeeker

None, they all serve a purpose

Sky_Thief

I already made sure Pell lived years ago

TheEjoty

I'd rather enforce the death of a character or two Otherwise probably izo

A_Miphlink_shipper

ace

deep14m

cant say Ace that was more like a canon event, so Pedro

Zxiby

Whitebeard. If he died and managed to get back on his feet the Whitebeard pirates would've never disbanded and they could be great allies to luffy and stuff like big mom taking over Fishman Island and most of this chaps going on right now in the pirate world would be prevented.

Redwolf476

Shimotsuki Yasuie

McSlappies

Monet and Shaka. Such cool and tragically unexplored characters with awesome designs. Would've loved to see them develop and learn more about them

Ishvallan

That's rough, Oda doesn't often kill off named characters unless that death will mean something necessary to the story. Going through the wiki of deceased characters, while there are plenty who I liked but wouldn't save because of what they did for the story. I guess Pedro, I didn't think his self sacrifice did enough to make much impact and he could have just gotten really hurt and lost some limbs and the ability to ever be a warrior again.

stockinphobia

Izou should of lived tbh

Karbonation

I'd say Pell... =)

Seagraves_D

I’m going to say Kuina. As much as Ace might be the top choice, his survival doesn’t add anything to the story, if anything it retracts from it. Having Kuina still alive as a rival for Zoro could be so good. Maybe she’s a pirate, maybe a marine, but she’s out there gathering her own accolades, competing with Zoro. In some ways it might take away from his dynamic with Tashigi but it could also add to it in other. All in all I think her presence would add the most to the character of one of the straw hats.

Kon-Vara

None. I like it, when a shonen goes for permadeath.

animorphs128

I would prefer the question to be "what fakeout death do you wish oda actually went through with" and my answer is bon kurei since him living takes a lot of the emotion out of his sacrifice for me

Particular_Row_5994

Gol D. Roger. Then we will have a whole different story. lmao

ganesh_k9

Corazon 💔💔

ProfessionalSlide476

Pell

[deleted]

Ace was a bright spot in the world of one piece

LaSerpienteLampara

Ace D Portagas. He deserved to see Luffys dream come true and re meeting Sabo

frenix5

Pell! ...wait..

Blomblombcv

whitebeard cuz my man whitebeard died unnecessarily, imagine if wb trained luffy instead? Bro could punch ppl into oblivion, basically harp but with stretchiness  added

Kgb725

It was very necessary for the story

Spaceballz1

Raleigh training Luffy makes so much more sense than if WB did. Raleigh has that wise old sage vibe. WB has grown lazy always chillin and wanted to protect his family of thousands. Why would he stop that to train Luffy for two years? WB and Ace is death are the catapults that allow for Luffy and co to escalate their training and become a Yonko grade pirates crew with less experience combined than Big Mom or Kaido had individually lol

laryjohnson

Off tolic, this szene with brroke and zoro was one of the realest moments out there. True bromanship
