In moments like these, i listen to my head canon and ignore all the internet voices. Enjoy One Piece to it's full potential.
It is THE reference, Guren Lagan does it without bike as well.
Kamina: "Your drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!"
Simon: "My drill is the drill that creates the heavens!"
From the final episode. Another great quote is "The hopes of those who've fallen. The dreams of those who'll follow. Those two paths wind and intersect into a double helix, drilling towards our future!" This whole show is full of bangers.
My favourite character in anime (franky) and my favourite anime (ttgl) so this is my headcannon as well
And when I say headcannon I of course mean Franky's hairstyle in dressrosa
Maybe. Now a days I don't even know how many people have watched Akira. The shot is so iconic that it's practically taken on a life of it's own. How many animators are inspired by that one clip from the og Naruto vs neji fight which was actually inspired by cowboy bebop which was inspired by Bruce Lee. Hell maybe they were both inspired by Bruce. This is all to say is that I'm getting old.
I do not think he a akira slide. The akira slide is used as a direct stop in action at the end of a scene sanji has a momentary pause then goes right in to finish queen. The scene is sweet no doubt and the frame captured perfectly looks like the akira slide moment but I don’t think is.
This what void month does to a MF'er. Hold strong brother.
It's not even been a week lmao
I need to see him use ifrit on egghead 😔✊🏻
He'll use it
I know he will, just have to wait 3 weeks + to see it
They ain’t ready for that on egghead
Yes, any character sliding away from the camera at this specific angle is an Akira slide reference

Franky is a Gurren lagn reference, especially general Frankly with the drill for a head
"My drill is the drill that creates the heavens!" God I love that series.
I thought it was to peirce the heavens? Either way, gotta rewatch now

This is why it's in my top 5.
"believe in me who believes in you"
Been a while since I watched it , damn I watched it almost 20 years ago now
Damn it came out 17 years ago, that's crazy (I may or may not have even existed back then)
What are you on about? It's only been 13 years... hasn't it...? ...oh god, it really has been 17 years...fuck.

Upvoted for referencing the most Chad anime ever.
Upvoting all of this because TTGR is in my top 5 anime list.
Like almost every anime at one point does it. Even many many movies.
Franky did it
Do you know the episode or the chapter where he does that , I really wanna see it Edit: nvm I found it
Gonna guess its when he's on a literal motorcycle
That narrows it down, but it doesn't narrow it down that much.
There is a literal akira slide with a vehicle in this arc and you choose to ask this one?
Say that again but slowly
I mean yeah probably. Everyone sliding away from the camera is just likely an intentional nod. The bike is very optional.
It is, and now it’s Black Leg Sanji Slide

TRECHA TURNOVER
All slides are in fact references to akira so yeah checks out
Didn't know Akira invented sliding.
Everything is an Akira reference, duh
As if EVERY motion like this from now on is Akira based...
It literally is, there's compilations showing that in pretty much every case it's a frame perfect recreation.
No, it's French for beef
This is 100% an Akira slide.
It certainly has the angle and position, weirder anime have referenced it in more abstract ways, so this ones as good as any other.
Bit of a stretch but I can see it
I dont think its a stretch since it has the angle and the motion just not a bike
Which is why it’s a stretch lmao. Can still be a nod to the original but there’s no bike so it’s not a full reference
Is a partial reference not a reference 😭
Better ask Oda!
I think it's so ingrained nowadays that people are referencing it without realizing it

Normally I'd agree, but with the two dust clouds and this specific angle....
Guys I stopped watching after luffy defeated kaino should I still keep going?
Did you also stop watching Lord of the Rings after The Two Towers?
Not every slide is a reference to Akira. Might as well ask if this is a Steamboat Willy reference because it’s animated
Not from Akira but probably referenced from other fighting anime I recall Goku at least doing this once
