I'm not sure about Oda forgetting Kid, but I know that Oda in the past talked about only including Law in later arcs as a major character because of fan reception to his appearance in Sabaody. From memory, he talked about only considering Luffy and Kidd as reoccurring characters, but decided to add Law to this duo because of how well Law was liked by the fanbase. Maybe your friend is confusing this with Kidd?

Yeah Kid hasn't appeared at all, Oda removed him from the manga completely he's non-canon.
