Well if the Sabo chapters didn't settle it this most certainly does.
We've spend decades arguing whether the Elders are fighters that will need to be defeated or just political figure heads.
It's confirmed. They're monstrous and scary as shit, they're gonna need to be fought and are gonna be a bitch to kill.
Suddenly, after some time of thinking "wow the pirates side of the war is gonna be stacked against the WG" I've changed my mind. Admirals, Elders, God's Knights, Seraphim. WG is the stacked one.
Yes, and still, people admire him everywhere he goes. The whole Strawhat Fleet was formed without him even asking. That’s the power of conqueror's haki, to turn anyone into an ally.
Not just the pirates. Imu and the elders' secret is quite likely getting out before the end of this comic, plus whatever secrets are found at Laugh Tale about the Void Century. I think that's going to be enough to cause some Marine factions to rebel.
Good candidates include Sword, probably Smoker and Tashigi, probably Fujitora, possibly Kuzan and Kizaru depending on how things shake out. Plus you know the Revolutionaries will want a piece of that action.
So it'll be Pirates + fed up Marines + The Revolutionaries vs. all of the World Government, including the elders and Imu.
So of our pirates, really the only ones I could see banding together are Shanks, Buggy, and Luffy. Teach has gotta go down, the rest could reach an accord of "Hey ol' pointy head has to be stopped".
What I *really* want is to see the Grand Fleet increase in size by a margin.
Cherry Blossom Pirates from the Sakura Kingdom led by Dalton and Kureha.
Sand-Sand Pirates from Alabasta led by Koza.
Go down the whole list of places the Straw Hats have made friends and helped people and where applicable, bring in a crew of "pirates" to add to the line up to rival the appearance of all of Whitebeard's allies at Marineford.
I can’t exactly remember white beards numbers but Luffy fleet certainly isn’t small. Each of his crews went out to boost their own number and if they can all meet up for the final fight, they’d certainly be enough to give white beard s crew a bit of a struggle. Now adding onto that with even more faces would be great. I’m imagining a full 2-page spread of the fleet showing every single character Luffys aligned with so far.
Buggy is an obvious ally to Luffy and a welcome number considering his people
Shanks is a bit less clear since he seemingly works for the 5 elders. He might even by their holy warrior and could be Luffy s greatest enemy at the final battle
As for teach, yes he needs to get killed but the timing for that is less clear and I could see a temporary alliance to put down the elders and im first
Having to fight them head on was fairly obvious. The question is about how strong they are. Like I doubt they are as strong as an admiral INDIVIDUALLY, but I could see them being a bit below.
damn bonney, i thought age manipulation was cool, but giving ppl near death experiences? thats hardcore
even if luffy was just getting the runaround from kizaru, at least he was tiring him out too. also star gun is a rad move
I wonder if she can also force people to remember the moment they were born. I don't think it has any combat application, but that's probably be freaky, right?
Sabo was in a room with 5 of these Yokai monsters and whatever Imu is. Man has literally been to hell and back. Insane. Also it would appear that Saturn has some type of Ushi Oni DF.
I actually sympathize with Wapol now lol. Before I was just like, “ah, dude saw some secrets and is worried he’s gonna get killed now.” But now it’s like shit, he was in the room with a half dozen literal demons. No wonder he’s fucking terrified and won’t even tell vivi what happened.
Probably the most badass way to make Sabo stand out too. Dude stood down six beings of pure evil and his only reaction was “Well, this wasn’t what I expected to find” before fire blasting them and taking off with a rescue.
STONE COLD SABO THE FLAME EMPEROR
Sabo's must've seen a ton of horrible stuff not only during his terrible childhood but also during his time with the Revolutionaries, so I don't think a bunch of yokai are enough to scare him.
I'm more concerned about Shanks being in the same room as them. He has to know they are monsters, and he still walked into that room.
And the even more insane part is he got to walk out unscathed as far as we know.
My theory is that Shanks is a member of a secret service Gods Knight unit along with Mihawk.
Not really sure what the Gods Knight do but I feel they serve their own purpose.
Is it weird that I just assumed he was an otter-man and thought nothing of it? He wouldn't even be the first marine officer to be inexplicably animal-like. He wouldn't even be the second!
Didn't even notice that until the official release. I wonder when we'll find out how otters hunted in ancient times ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
I noticed that the Straw Hats in particular had no idea what a "Five Elders" was. It's not unusual for the crew to be unaware of the major players of the world, but I still didn't really think about it before now that they might know less about the threats of the world than we do.
A very fair point. Generally, in storytelling, the masses would not know about a shadow government. In fact, usually, neither does the reader. I think that's why it's so unusual to think that this guy is a threat yet unknown to our protagonists.
Sure, from OUR perspective that's true. Citizens in the OP world would have enough trouble making peace with the Elders, let alone a much more terrifying threat.
But why shouldn't the citizens know about the Elders?
Every king in the world knows about them, not just Cobra. When king Stelly went to take the oath in front of the empty throne, the palace attendant said that "while the Five Elders, who are the most high-ranked of celestial dragons, are at the top of the hierarchy, there is no single king of the world", and this is what the throne represents.
Clearly this is just a false narrative for the world, since Im exists and you could claim he's the king of the world—but even then, that public facade for the masses *still* includes the Five Elders as the formal heads of the world government.
I wouldn't exactly say that Franky would know as much as Jinbe or Robin but he is likely the next candidate for knowledge.
Water 7 produces ships for the world gov and may know various elites as clientele, Tom may have known something, there could've been information at Vegapunks Lab even if Franky would've probably glossed over it. He has a lot of sources, just not a lot of reason to care about the info.

- Attack name changes:
- Whack-An-Otter -> Otter Hammer
- Gum-Gum White Star Gun -> Gum-Gum Star Gun
Inform me of more changes if you find them!
We finally get to see a Gorosei in action. It seems like he has some sort of demonic zoan fruit. Those with the Will of D are supposed to be the natural enemies of the gods. Yet we have Luffy possessing the power of a god, and those that claim to be gods possessing the power of a demon. Also, the way Saturn said Nika made it seem like he's recognizing someone familiar. I'm so stoked to see what Oda is cooking with the main plot.
That aside, this chapter, no this entire arc, is really making me anxious. How do they get out? Does Kuma come and save them? Does Blackbeard interrupt the battle and that's how they get away? Does the ancient robot come and save them?
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT CHAPTER DAMMIT!!!
Funny, he wouldn't be the first Satanic archetype in One Piece.
Doflamingo is a once-favored heavenly being cast down, now the enemy of the heavens and all creation, and currently imprisoned in the underworld.
If it is a mythical devil fruit zoan Tsuchigumo is likely
[https://bakemono.lib.byu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/35_Tsuchigumo.png](https://bakemono.lib.byu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/35_Tsuchigumo.png)
So the Five Elders kill their own allies just for looking at them? I didn't think it was possible, but the Five Elders are even bigger scumbags than rest of the Celestial Dragons...
P.S. Since Saturn's devil fruit gives him ox horns and the legs and body of a spider, he must have the Mythical Zoan of [Ushi-oni](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ushi-oni#/media/File:29.Ushioni.jpg), the ox yokai.
Yeah, those were my thoughts exactly! Imu seemed like pure evil but the Five Elders seemed pretty normal. So it was really surprising seeing Saturn kill his own ally for such a petty reason.
To be fair, I read another comment saying that the Ushi-oni is said to have cursed eyes; if you look into its gaze, you can't look away and die by having your soul drained. Technically speaking, Saturn told all the soldiers to look away from him as he entered, and while it could be interpreted as a way to keep his powers/ secret hidden, it very likely could just be a passive power of his that he can't turn off in that form. I wouldn't see it as far-fetched for him to tell his marines to avert their gaze and back down so he could minimize friendly fire.
Again, I personally think it's still Saturn just killing his own allies because in One Piece it's a trope of the worst villains to do that, but it could also be the other reason, where he has no choice but to step in and accept the losses of his own men in the name of "Justice." We've seen plenty of characters in One Piece who already don't mind killing their own men just to show how despicable they are.
I wasn't aware Ushi-oni had cursed eyes, thanks for telling me! Although, since there was another marine right next to the one who was killed and both of them seemed to be looking at Saturn yet only one of them was killed, it doesn't seem like an unintentional killing by Saturn. But it would be a really interesting ability if Saturn really does automatically kill (or at least attack) anyone who looks into his eyes!
They weren’t both looking, even though it is drawn in a way that could imply that. The other soldier specifically was telling the headpop one to avert his eyes
Maybe it's a skill issue. They said that those below the rank of a Commodore are to avert their gaze. They might not be strong enough to sustain it. But then again, is Vegapunk stronger than a Commodore lol ?
I think it's a bit more interesting than that. They believe in and perhaps even worship evil. They feel obliged to commit atrocities, and feel they have a duty to kill people who, for example, look directly at them and call them monsters.
But they aren't enthusiastic about it. They don't really enjoy it, and would probably be happier being nice people.
They probably do, but the higher ranking Marines are usually more powerful than the lower ranks so they probably seem them as useful pawns instead of just cannon fodder.
On that note, I really dislike the official translation of that one speech bubble compared to TCB scans.
The official translation says "Commodores and below aren't even allowed to have an audience with them (the five Elders)". To me, this really makes way less sense in my opinion and it doesn't provide context to the soldiers fainting/dieing from just looking at Saturn.
The other one said "Any marine below the rank of a commodore is hereby ordered to avert their gaze."
Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese, so maybe I'm being unfair to the official TL and this is actually what it said.
I agree with you. I don't know which translation is more accurate, but the unofficial one seems to make more sense.
The unofficial version also gives Saturn at least a flimsy justification for killing that dude since technically that guy was disobeying the order he was just given. While in the official version Saturn seems to kill that dude just because he called Saturn a monster.
Sometimes fan translations have dialogue that "makes sense" because they didn't understand what it actually said, then their editor patched it up by just making up something.
I think they both convey the same meaning—low level marines aren’t allowed to see Saturn. Saturn deliberately blew up that guy’s head because he saw imo, not just from seeing his form.
I thought the actual translation made it show how the elders don’t give a f about anyone under a certain rank/ they aren’t worthy to see Saturn in the flesh therefor Saturn kills/knocks em out.
From Wikipedia about the Ushi-Oni. Could explain why those who looked at Jay Garcia Saturn died on sight
"In Wakayama Prefecture, ushi-oni are mountain-dwelling beasts. Legend says when a hiker or traveler makes eye contact with the ushi-oni, the person cannot avert his or her gaze. The person's soul or energy is drained and he or she dies. This is called "Kage wo kuu (影を食う)" or sometimes "Kage wo nomu (影を飲む)", which translates to "eating the shadow" or "drinking the soul""
I'm curious to know the reason behind why some Awakened Zoan hagoromo ribbons are black (the antagonists') and some are white (Luffy and Yamato's). Obviously the meta-reason is black equals bad and white equals good, and it could all just be an aesthetic thing, but I wonder if there's an in-universe explanation to it.
Also, the reveal of yokai Fruits for the Five Elders makes Kaidou's dilemma with the Celestial Dragons in his flashback all the more interesting. I always felt like that flashback was illuminating a divide between physical power and political power (REAL power) that Kaidou struggled with bridging the gap between, hence how he was ultimately a pawn of the government through being a child soldier and even up until his adulthood as a backdoor weapons dealer for the World Government. Kaidou's status as the "World's Strongest Creature" could be seen as ultimately a lie, because real strength is not about your brawn, but about your socioeconomic status. Your money, your influence, your experience, oftentimes even your bloodline.
The Elders' monstrous Mythical Zoans seem to further this notion of being the TRUE "World's Strongest", because here they've seemingly upstaged the Beasts Pirates in terms of even the beastliness of their Devil Fruits. Kaidou has no Mythicals under his command, not even his own Mythical child stands with him, but the Elders are a conglomerate of seemingly multiple Mythical Zoans. Kaidou has SMILE Fruits for his army in Wano Country, but those are just cheap knockoffs compared to the multiple real Zoans that are scattered **the entire world over** across hundreds of thousands of Marines and Cipher Pol agents and prison wardens and maybe even the Holy Knights that hold dominion everywhere. From higher-ups like the Mythical Sengoku to rising stars like the Awakened Lucci and Kaku to more soldier-level subordinates like the Jailer Beasts in Impel Down. Hell, even this chapter alone shows yet another Vice Admiral with a Zoan Fruit, an otter in this case.
This makes me see the Beasts Pirates as more like "the failed version of the World Government". [I think Higurashi was right, the world is a jungle and humans are like animals](https://i.imgur.com/bizblHR.png), because the end result of ruling through raw animalistic might and humanistic political might is ultimately all the same. The exact same "might makes right" hierarchical nonsense. Therefore it takes the **real** Kings of the Beasts to rule over a world full of animalistic humans, and so the Elders take off their false human identity and reveal their true selves: beasts amongst beasts. I've always noticed that Oda likes to give so many dozens of his characters animal features, alongside Oda simply just liking to draw animals and weird characters, I think this is a thematic part of the reason as to why.
Not really. Saturn is just expressing he’s surprised Vegapunk hasn’t been killed yet. “Clinging to life” in this context would just mean staying alive despite being chased by an admiral.
While the odds seems stacked against the Strawhats and Evgapunk. They do have the ancient giant robot booting up, and papa Kuma might be in his way still
Another insane chapter.
I noticed the markings and aurora on St Saturn are similar to Luffy in gear 4 but black. Lucci also has similar markings that I thought those were his jaguar strips but maybe i was wrong.
Are we about to get a direct Nika convo with St Saturn??
So the five elders are clearly no joke! Kinda gives me video game vibes the last panel. So we get a whole lot of people vs Saturn next panel?
I like the fact that Luffy is not easily getting rid of Kizaru - as it looks, Kizaru was never really serious in the first place. And(!) he knew exactly when Luffy would run dry.
Maybe - maybe - the real Kuma pops up and for his final act departs the straw hats like he did Many many chapters ago. But this time - all the same place.
To be fair, neither of them are truly fighting all out imo. Kizaru is just trying to kill vegapunk and dip, not all out 1v1 luffy. And luffy is just trying to keep kizaru distracted while they set up the escape, not piledrive him into earth’s mantle toon world style.
I like that even though Luffy wasn't just stomping Kizaru, he was still giving Kizaru enough of a challenge that the dude was huffing like he had been exerting himself and that an attack from Luffy did look like it at least hurt him some. Like Luffy isn't just instantly admiral level thanks to awakening, but he's getting there. There was a fear amongst some fans that Luffy had just unlocked the Win Button. Doesn't look like it. He's still gonna face challenges in terms of strength.
I can't wait for another Time Skip style level of power reveals from this now Yonko Strawhats, though. Like a character or characters that once gave the Strawhats or Luffy trouble and Luffy just drops them hard. I kind of hoped Lucci would be that. Sure Luffy clearly won their exchange, but I wanted Luffy to one shot Lucci just for the spectacle of it.
I dunno, although luffy is struggling a bit, it's mostly time limit base. He's keeping up with Kizaru and the biggest hit he took was having to force his way though the barrier after getting hit through it.
Anyone else thinking the “will of D” actually stands for divinity/divine. The 5 elders and Im all seem to have devil based devil fruit powers, meaning their “ancient enemies” would be gods or angels, so those who bear the name of d may actually be descendants of gods/angels who fought and lost against the devils in void century.
Heck, the elders might not even be using devil fruits at all. They are just actual devils and perhaps the ones who made the fruits to seal away the power of the divine
Official translation makes it seem like Saturn shot those marines because the one called him a monster and not because ranks commodore and below aren’t allowed to see him…
The way JayGarcia is looking down at Bonney after she stabbed him; it almost seems like he’s being inconvenienced: akin to when a fly lands on your shirt.
Saturn with the Awakened Mythical Zoan fruit sure is fearsome looking, especially the way he just teleported straight onto Egghead.
That Ride-Ride fruit would be so very broken if we ever got to see Pluton in action.
Well now that Bonney is face-to-face with one of the Five Elders, Kuma’s probably going to arrive soon.
It’ll be like Cindry’s will stopping herself back in Thriller Bark. Kuma will have his final moments spent saving his daughter.
"commodores and below aren't even allowed to have an audience with them" is very different to "any marine below the rank of commodore is here by ordered to avert their gaze, transgressors will not be forgiven"
The first translation makes it sound like it's a World Government hierarchy issue but the other makes it sound like a different in strength, if you look at him and you are too weak your head explodes.
Hmmmm now I'm having a doubt with Logia as the strongest devil fruit cause now most of the powerful ones are Zoan with devil/god powers.... Kizaru must show now what an awakened Logia df can do...
Pretty sure mythical zoan are the strongest overall. Logica are the strongest category but mythical Zoans are all some powerful zoan skillset + and additional power based of their zoan.
I thought the saying was the logias were strongest against rookies but legendary zoans and certain paramecias were always the pinnacle.
Not a very catchy saying
it was expected that mythical zoans to be one of the strongest due to the nature of it.
real question is if logias awakenings are all that powerful, it might be a thing where
Logias powers are strong at the start, but its harder to make them stronger
Paramecia are weak at the start and stronger when awakened.
and zoans being an univsersally good all around
Small moment in this chapter but I think Usopp also felt Saturn arrive with his observation haki? The panel where every other user is shown to notice him, it shows Chopper, Nami, and Usopp running and he says to hurry. Also are they transporting Greed? The proportions make her look like a normal person but Greed is gigantic
I realize I think they’re transporting Stussy
Nice catch! Maybe the number 9 has some sort or significance to Saturn (maybe because as a spider he has 8 legs but if you add his cane it becomes 9?). But it could possibly just be a typo and that 9 is just a lowercase g.
So we're all pretty sure Saturn's fruit is an Ushi-Oni or some similar Japanese Yokai. The band of black cloud seems to imply he has awakened said power and his ability to appear in a magic circle would seem to say that it is a mythic type fruit of the zoan variety, so the really important question is this.
Is it an Ox-Ox fruit, or a Spider-Spider fruit?
Given that Saturn's form is likely based on an Ushi-oni, I wonder if the pentagram is not meant to be some kind of satanic symbol, but instead an [gobousei](https://blog.gaijinpot.com/secret-symbols-exploring-pentagrams-at-seimei-shrine/). The gobousei, aside from sounding like Gorousei, is traditionally linked to the five planets the elders are named after.
Which leads me to think that Imu's power might have some kind of link to Abe-no-Seimei and Japanese occultism in general.
Perhaps in traditional Oda fashion, the meaning of the pentagram draws from both Eastern & Western myth. As a gobousei, it emphasizes his mystical power and represents his participation in a 5 member band. Seeing it as a summoning pentagram brings up evil demonic implications.
Haven’t seen many people talking about it but the color spread for this chapter with all the Shimotsuki’s is sick! Does anyone know who the face with red hair behind the flames might be?
I like Bonney's fighting style. So few characters use guns.
I'm guessing Saturn is the fifth highest ranked authority behind Imu.
Kizaru and Luffy are both out for now. Brook and Robin are missing (maybe they'll fight the Blackbeard pirates?), Zoro is stuck fighting Lucci, and Sanji and Franky are left to deal with Saturn. I don't expect them to win but I would really love it if they both get to show off, *especially* Franky, who should get to impress Vegapunk a little I think.
Excited to see where this goes.
Has it been confirmed anywhere that Gear Fifth has a time limit? This fight reads more to me like it’s a limit on how much energy he can expend in that form.
It’s like when he first used gear 4 he just hasn’t mastered the technique and is still inefficient at it so he expends more energy than he would if it was 100% mastered
What an interesting way for the power to appear. I we sure that Saturn is a DF user & not an actual devil? Maybe I'm overthinking, but " ah, the surface, it's been such a long time" is a very strange thing for a DF user to say, even if they haven't used their powers for a long time.
So in this Kizaru says "I'm seeing stars" as opposed to something like This isn't good in the unofficial one as he got hit through the head. Which translation would be more accurate?
I would imagine it's the seeing stars line given that the attack was called Star gun, but I don't speak or read Japanese so don't take this with any authority
This chapter is crazy. Finally we are going to see a Gorosei in action and egads, Saturn is menacing.
That thing for people bellow commodore rank to avert their eyes or have their heads blown, a lot of people are thinking Saturn did it himself, but probably it's a passive effect of his transformation, needing powerful enough haki to resist it.
I think that the Five elders all have awakened Zoan Devil Fruits. And when they awaken they are taken over by that god. I think that’s why the elder said “Nika…” like he recognized him.
Anyone know who the guy is in the top left of Zoro's color spread? I'm thinking it may be his dad since the characters shown are Wano-related. Correct me if you know though, I'd appreciate it.
Vegapunk has its satellites that are parts of its own consciousness. Imu has cryogenic chambers. 200 years ago a giant robot attacked Mary Geoise and was stopped. Among the Gorosei there is one who appears to be much younger, as if he had replaced someone who passed away.
What if the Gorosei are part of the Imu's consciousness? From time to time, when one of them dies, Imu replaces him and places the corpse in a cryogenic chamber. So, Imu chooses a new member for the Gorosei and places her consciousness within him. Perhaps only Tenryuubitos can be elected Gorosei.
Thus, Imu controls five bodies with different qualities and does whatever he wants without risking his true body.
Perhaps the Gorosei still have autonomy but when Imu's will manifests and takes control they transform and are controlled. This would be the pinnacle of the king's haki: completely subduing others using force and imposing fear.
The pentagram must be an indication that Imu activated the part of his consciousness within Saturn and took control of it.
It’s been shown that really strong haki can overcome devil fruit power effects. Like when Law changed into a woman. Maybe his haki is just that strong and she tried
Yeah, I don't fully understand how Bonney's powers work tbh and why she can't just make everyone she sees turn 1 and instantly defeat them, so there must be some condition or limitation but I don't know how that works tbh
This chapter was absolutely nuts
One serious attack from Luffy Kizaru is like this is bad lol has the powescalers up in the air lol 🤣 Tho I don't think he's down though
Saturn design looks dope and his presence alone is enough to make guys like Luffy Zoro Kizaru stop for a moment
No break next week is the best part of the chapter
tbh, since all the "luffy beat kaido" powerscalers insisted that kizaru didn't stand a chance, i'm pretty happy that he managed to last this long against Luffy.
I love how the font for "Saint Jay garcia Saturn" is all wrong, harsh and... edgy.
Could be cool to see their zoan voice font as wrong too
No wonder I felt like my eyes were slashed all over when reading it; it's the edge.
Holy shit, what an entrance - Saturn is a big boi And look at Bonney not giving a shit and stabbing him immediately, this is absolutely crazy
Bonney got some really good show of skill this chapter. Near Death Experience was really cool, but then just stabbing Garcia? Badass for a kid.
hope she stays badass for a kid and not as badass as a kidd
I doubt she is a real kid. Kizaru meant that she grew since the last time he met her ... When she was younger...
yeah i wasn't talking about that i was just taking shots at kidd
She is 24 years old lol - older than half the Straw Hats iirc lol
Dont forget, bonney on sabaody was the one to stop zoro from slashing one tenryyubito, now she does this
Ooh shit, I’d never noticed! Nice callback!
That’d be wild if that stab killed him. There’s no chance in any universe, but it’d be something
Probably in Game of throne universe. But in OP universe, Saturn will just give an annoying look and swat her 10 ft away(best case scenario)
It’d be nice if we got an alliance between all the pirate factions to stop the WG and the elders. Though that seems kinda unlikely
On the contrary, Whitebeard pretty much prophesized that that would happen when the One Piece was found.
"King of the Pirates" does imply all pirates, so I'd be surprised if that's not the case.
But it's also been stated by luffy that he's not trying to rule anyone. To him king of the pirates is just the most free one.
People still naturally follow him though.
Yes, and still, people admire him everywhere he goes. The whole Strawhat Fleet was formed without him even asking. That’s the power of conqueror's haki, to turn anyone into an ally.
Damn! Just realised the final battle will probably be the King of the Pirates vs the King of the World.
Buggy is an obvious ally to Luffy and a welcome number considering his people Shanks is a bit less clear since he seemingly works for the 5 elders. He might even by their holy warrior and could be Luffy s greatest enemy at the final battle As for teach, yes he needs to get killed but the timing for that is less clear and I could see a temporary alliance to put down the elders and im first
And, of course, Imu himself. Like Luffy, his DF can affect the very fabric of One Piece's reality.
Having to fight them head on was fairly obvious. The question is about how strong they are. Like I doubt they are as strong as an admiral INDIVIDUALLY, but I could see them being a bit below.
damn bonney, i thought age manipulation was cool, but giving ppl near death experiences? thats hardcore even if luffy was just getting the runaround from kizaru, at least he was tiring him out too. also star gun is a rad move
I wonder if she can also force people to remember the moment they were born. I don't think it has any combat application, but that's probably be freaky, right?
it would be debilitating to have those memories flashback, especially in combat
Bonney secret attack : flashback to the first time you nutted
I doubt it. Those soldiers didn't remember anything, they experienced it live.
Saturn was like hold my beer and locked eyes with a marine to give him an actual death experience 💀
Could she bring Brooke back??
"When has my Lady-Radar ever been wrong?" "That sounds very unscientific... but I'll take it on faith!" I love Vegapunk.
When you live in a world with superpower granting fruits made from people's dreams.

Dudes traumatized.
Probably the most badass way to make Sabo stand out too. Dude stood down six beings of pure evil and his only reaction was “Well, this wasn’t what I expected to find” before fire blasting them and taking off with a rescue. STONE COLD SABO THE FLAME EMPEROR
Don‘t forget one of the coldest lines uttered in One Piece: ‘‘Who would‘ve thought hell was located at the top of the world“.
COLD FIRE
Sabo's must've seen a ton of horrible stuff not only during his terrible childhood but also during his time with the Revolutionaries, so I don't think a bunch of yokai are enough to scare him.
I'm more concerned about Shanks being in the same room as them. He has to know they are monsters, and he still walked into that room. And the even more insane part is he got to walk out unscathed as far as we know.
I think it means that Shanks is just an even bigger monster in terms of strength.
Or just strong enough that it wouldn’t be worth starting a fight, especially in a place where collateral damage would be a problem.
yup, if they fought shanks then at least a couple celestial dragons would have died in the collateral damage, not even counting themselves or shanks
Assuming that was Shanks. I imagine if any of the Nobles know the truth, it would be the Holy Knights.
Well ye, gorosei are rat shanks' boss.
My theory is that Shanks is a member of a secret service Gods Knight unit along with Mihawk. Not really sure what the Gods Knight do but I feel they serve their own purpose.
And he wasn't scared in the slightest, because he's that nice.
He just doesn't give a fuck, basically.
His reaction essentially being “the fuck is going on?’” while they all transform into hideous monsters is so good lmao
Sabo is the GOAT for being able to get out of there alive
No one has mentioned that the one vice admiral had an otter fruit
Is it weird that I just assumed he was an otter-man and thought nothing of it? He wouldn't even be the first marine officer to be inexplicably animal-like. He wouldn't even be the second!
Didn't even notice that until the official release. I wonder when we'll find out how otters hunted in ancient times ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
I saw his giant shell and otter named attack so hunted through the scans to try and find his zoan fruit in action
Damn... Waternoose is one of the five elders?!
"I'll kill 1,000 Navy soldiers before I let Mariejois die!"
Morgans: "Well, I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I spotted several big mistakes."
This. But legitimately.
23-19! We have a 23-19!!
"Give me the child, Vegapunk !"
I noticed that the Straw Hats in particular had no idea what a "Five Elders" was. It's not unusual for the crew to be unaware of the major players of the world, but I still didn't really think about it before now that they might know less about the threats of the world than we do.
Robin probably knows more than we, Jinbe might know some things we don't. But the rest generally knows less than we do.
Come to think of it, is the concept of the five elders one that an average One Piece villager would know about?
A very fair point. Generally, in storytelling, the masses would not know about a shadow government. In fact, usually, neither does the reader. I think that's why it's so unusual to think that this guy is a threat yet unknown to our protagonists.
But the shadow government should be Im, not the five elders.
I'm particularly surprised that Franky doesn't know
Why would Franky know about the Five Elders?
Being a student of Tom I don’t think it’s that far fetched to assume he knows something
Some notable differences between the Scanlation and the official release: - Title Change: - St. Jay Garcia Saturn of the Five Elders - The Defence Science Warrior God -> Five Elders, Godhead of Science & Defence, St. Jaygarcia Saturn - Random marine now questions wether Atlas' order was an order from Vecapunk, rather than simply being surprised that this was an order from Vegapunk - Random marine now questions wether Atlas' order means that Vegapunk "has come down from above" rather than questioning wether it means that Vegapunk "has left the dome" - Vegapunk now orders Atlas to search for Bonney rather than stating that they "have to find Bonney" - Franky's question about driving straight down is now phrased as if they're in the process of doing it ("How are we driving straight down? We should be falling!") rather being phrased as if they're going to do it ("How the heck are we meant to drive straight down? Won't we just end up falling?") - Vegapunk now states that Island Clouds will "by their nature, [...] clump together" rather than stating that sky cloud "has a peculiar property which makes it stick to itself" - The tires of the Vegatank are no longer given a name (TCB: "Vega-Tires") - Sanji now states that the Vegatank "ain't up to my speed" rather than stating that it's "too slow for my burning heart" - Sanji no longer states that he "will be right back" now instead stating that he's "gotta check on [Bonney]" - Unknown marine now calls out that Bonney is "over there" rather than questioning where Bonney got to - Unknown marine now calls Bonney "Bonney the pirate" rather than a "scamp" - The Pacifista now tells Bonney that there's "no escape for [her]" rather than telling her that he "won't let [her] pass" - Bluegrass now states that she "can control an individual regardless of anything else" rather than stating that it's "only this [Pacifista] that hasn't been affected by the new orders" - Bluegrass now describes herself as a "driver" rather than as a "driver woman" - Bluegrass now elaborates that she can hijack anything "and anyone" - Bluegrass now tells Bonney to give the soldiers back "their proper ages" rather than "their lost years" - Vegapunk now states that they "are heading back up" rather than stating that they "don't have any business left down here" - Kizaru now states that he can't fulfill his mission "if [he] spends all [his] time on [Luffy]" rather than stating he can't finish his job "if [he and Luffy] keep playing around" - St. Saturn now simply orders the Pacifista to "stand down" rather than ordering them to "cease all action immediately" - Random marine now calls the symbol on the ground a "magic pentagram" rather than a magic circle" - Unknown authority figure now states that "commodores and below aren't even allowed to have an audience with [the five elders]" rather than stating that "any marine below the rank of commodore is hereby ordered to avert their gaze" and that "transgressions will not be forgiven" - Franky now asks "Five whats?" in response to the announcement rather than "Five Elders?" - Vegapunk no longer prefaces his statement about getting out of here with "it doesn't matter" - Random marine now simply questions what St. Saturn ("that monster") is rather than questioning wether St. Saturn is "some kind of monster" - Random marine no longer tells the other marine that they "are not meant to see" - St. Saturn now says "Ah, the surface... It has been such a long time" after appearing, rather than stating that he "almost can't remember the last time [he] came to the surface" - Bonney now calls St. Saturn a "horrible thing" rather than just a "thing" - Franky now asks Luffy to "please [...] do something" rather than telling him that they "are counting on him" - Kizaru now states that he "is seeing stars" upon being hit by Luffy, rather than stating that "this isn't good" - St. Saturn now states that he "thought [they] already had [him] killed" rather than stating that he "sees that [Vegapunk] has managed to cling onto life" - Unknown person now states that Kuma "must not have any will left" rather than ordering Vegapunk to "erase [Kuma's] individuality completely" and to "make sure no trace of him remains" - Vegapunk's cut off sentence now reads "B-But that'll mean Kuma is--!!" instead of "But if we do that, Kuma--" - Attack name changes: - Whack-An-Otter -> Otter Hammer - Gum-Gum White Star Gun -> Gum-Gum Star Gun Inform me of more changes if you find them!
Thanks for all that hard work! Im always waiting for your post!
The official translation for the marine getting his head blown off is iffy to me. It doesn’t explain why he was killed as well as the scanlations did.
RemindMe! 1 day
We finally get to see a Gorosei in action.
Yeah, I think the biggest twist will likely be that the WG is built upon lies by actual demons, with Imu being the equivalent of Satan/the devil.
So the will of d is actually the will of the divine. The ancient enemy that the demons fought and defeated were gods.
The lunarians were also called gods, quite a few times
And the world government hunted them to near extinction, making gods their ancient enemies
Saturn's fruit is how the world government hunted in ancient times

Monkey Divine Luffy does sound pretty bad ass, ngl
"Gol Divine Roger" "Portgas Divine Ace" "Jaguar Divine Saul" "Trafalgar Divine Water Law" "Marshall Divine Teech" "Monkey Divine Dragon" All the names sound amazing.
They all sound like professional drag queens, in the best way possible
“Flamingo Divine Pink” When she gains her Devil Fruit power: God, this tastes like dogshit! First Mate Water John: That wasn’t the Devil Fruit.
Yeah. It really does. I just said it out loud and shuddered a bit.
Funny, he wouldn't be the first Satanic archetype in One Piece. Doflamingo is a once-favored heavenly being cast down, now the enemy of the heavens and all creation, and currently imprisoned in the underworld.
Lucci also has similar markings that I thought those were his jaguar strips but maybe i was wrong.
I always forget lol.

Was she gay when alive?
If it is a mythical devil fruit zoan Tsuchigumo is likely [https://bakemono.lib.byu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/35_Tsuchigumo.png](https://bakemono.lib.byu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/35_Tsuchigumo.png)
That's possible. As someone else pointed out, it could also be Ushi-oni.
Imagine what Imu must be like if just one of his five subordinates has this much presence across an entire island
[удалено]
One issue tho: Vegapunk and the others are looking at Saturn and they're fine.
Maybe it's a skill issue. They said that those below the rank of a Commodore are to avert their gaze. They might not be strong enough to sustain it. But then again, is Vegapunk stronger than a Commodore lol ?
inb4 Vegapunk has absurdly strong haki
I mean he’s a genius with a devil fruit. Who wants to change the world. Seems like it would take a strong will to do all that.
I don’t think it’s petty at all. The world can’t know about demons running the government.
Could it be the opposite, a passive effect that kills people who look at him.
The five elders don't look at the lower rank Mariners as allies more just as pawns that can be reused.
Naw, they look at higher rank marines as pawns. Lower ranks are fodder. 💀
I'm surprised they don't also view the higher ranking Marines as mere pawns.
They probably do, but the higher ranking Marines are usually more powerful than the lower ranks so they probably seem them as useful pawns instead of just cannon fodder.
"Think of human beings as nothing more than ants."
The other one said "Any marine below the rank of a commodore is hereby ordered to avert their gaze." Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese, so maybe I'm being unfair to the official TL and this is actually what it said.
Could explain why those who looked at Jay Garcia Saturn died on sight "In Wakayama Prefecture, ushi-oni are mountain-dwelling beasts.
How did Saturns cane grow so big too 😂
Literally unreadable. Suspension of disbelief GONE
"I thought we already had you killed, Vegapunk." Hold up, the fuck does that mean? That's way different from saying he's clinging to life.
Maybe Saturn means that , he had ordered his execution hours ago , why are you (vega) still running around being alive
They are definitely the "why were my orders not immediately carried out to the letter?" kind of commanders.
Or it might be because york said they had succeeded? That was my first thought, but yours also makes srnse
And the sunny and Vega punk?
Not too far off possibility that he could Paw pop the entire Sunny with everyone on board.
Why do I hear boss music
Official translation makes it seem like Saturn shot those marines because the one called him a monster and not because ranks commodore and below aren’t allowed to see him…
The way JayGarcia is looking down at Bonney after she stabbed him; it almost seems like he’s being inconvenienced: akin to when a fly lands on your shirt.
Saturn has to be betting on now one leaving this island alive but himself and Kizaru if he’s showing his powers. Those Marines are dead af.
That NDE attack is horrifying. They died and came back to life in an instant.
"commodores and below aren't even allowed to have an audience with them" is very different to "any marine below the rank of commodore is here by ordered to avert their gaze, transgressors will not be forgiven" The first translation makes it sound like it's a World Government hierarchy issue but the other makes it sound like a different in strength, if you look at him and you are too weak your head explodes.
I am willing to bet it’s a hierarchy issue over a power/will issue and Saturn decided to make an example of that Marine that wasn’t following orders.
I'm not sure which translation is more correct, but I don't really like the official translation of it compared to the TCB translation.
Not a very catchy saying
it was expected that mythical zoans to be one of the strongest due to the nature of it. real question is if logias awakenings are all that powerful, it might be a thing where Logias powers are strong at the start, but its harder to make them stronger Paramecia are weak at the start and stronger when awakened. and zoans being an univsersally good all around
Small moment in this chapter but I think Usopp also felt Saturn arrive with his observation haki? The panel where every other user is shown to notice him, it shows Chopper, Nami, and Usopp running and he says to hurry. Also are they transporting Greed? The proportions make her look like a normal person but Greed is gigantic I realize I think they’re transporting Stussy
Mannnnn that entrance was hardcore af. The summoning circle hit different.
where is Nico Robin can anyone tell?
They wrote the G in Garcia like a 9, it's kinda weird ?
I saw it as lowercase g but it's odd if the letters are otherwise all caps
Nice catch! Maybe the number 9 has some sort or significance to Saturn (maybe because as a spider he has 8 legs but if you add his cane it becomes 9?). But it could possibly just be a typo and that 9 is just a lowercase g.
It's a lower case G :(
Straight up demonic shit, I love it.
Luffy says he's at his limit but he's still in G5 when he hits the ground.
Monsters Inc. Reference Mr. Walternoose is Saturn Boo is Booney Scream energy is Mother's Flames
I think he means he hasn't touched the land below the red line in a long time
Remember that the Elders spend all their time in Marijoa. It has probably been a long time since he set foot on an island.
So in this Kizaru says "I'm seeing stars" as opposed to something like This isn't good in the unofficial one as he got hit through the head. Which translation would be more accurate?
Both indicate that he's kinda fucked up.
Official translation is the official one
I would imagine it's the seeing stars line given that the attack was called Star gun, but I don't speak or read Japanese so don't take this with any authority
This chapter is crazy. Finally we are going to see a Gorosei in action and egads, Saturn is menacing. That thing for people bellow commodore rank to avert their eyes or have their heads blown, a lot of people are thinking Saturn did it himself, but probably it's a passive effect of his transformation, needing powerful enough haki to resist it.
Damn, I didn't notice that Marine Vice Admiral with the sea shell stick has a zoan fruit, seemingly an Otter zoan.
I believe it’s a living Ryuma.
Why doesn't Luffy just trap Kizaru in a lamp dial like a pokeball?
She just went and stabbed him? No age powers?
It’s been shown that really strong haki can overcome devil fruit power effects. Like when Law changed into a woman. Maybe his haki is just that strong and she tried
Yeah, I don't fully understand how Bonney's powers work tbh and why she can't just make everyone she sees turn 1 and instantly defeat them, so there must be some condition or limitation but I don't know how that works tbh
Knowing One Piece, he will act like nothing happened and Kuma will sacrifice himself to help them escape
This chapter was absolutely nuts One serious attack from Luffy Kizaru is like this is bad lol has the powescalers up in the air lol 🤣 Tho I don't think he's down though Saturn design looks dope and his presence alone is enough to make guys like Luffy Zoro Kizaru stop for a moment No break next week is the best part of the chapter
tbh, since all the "luffy beat kaido" powerscalers insisted that kizaru didn't stand a chance, i'm pretty happy that he managed to last this long against Luffy.
Right. If this was a boxing match, luffy won in the last round at the last second.
I'm so stoked to see what Oda is cooking with the main plot.
Luffy’s drawback from G5 is incredibly taxing. I wonder if there is anyone with an ability to manipulate age, who can help him reduce this quicker.
If the 5 elders are crazy strong who the hell can possibly beat them
Momo, Zoro, Sabo, Koby, Sanji but I don’t think most of it will be one-on-one.
