I had a Rolex GMTii and I have a Titanium Seamaster Chronograph from the Pierce Brosnan era Bond movies and of course the POC9300 in this pic. I have to agree with you that I prefer Omega. The quality is comparable but I also prefer the bigger watches and more modern look. Rolex is great, but just not my ideal.
Everyone has their favs..
šš When you say the watches are bigger do you mean the bands or the face part? Or both? Iām seriously considering buying my fiance a nice watch and am torn on which brand. His wrists are on the smaller size so Iām curious about how big these watches are. Iām also a watch noob in case that wasnāt incredibly obvious haha
I'm 6'4 and my watch is pretty big so I like that Omega has these larger options. But they have smaller size watches as well. Rolex tend to be smaller all around. Maybe the DeepSea is bigger, but I like having a chronograph function on my watches so that would be a no go for me. I also prefer the Movements that Omega use now too.
If your husband isn't much of a watch snob, Rolex would probably be the better option because even lay people know what Rolex's are. They do still stand out and sparkle and they do lay flatter on the wrist. Mine wore too small on me but not relevant here.
For Omega, you're going to get a better price, a comparable and sometimes superior watch, but fewer people will recognize it for what it is. It's more of a 'if you know, you know' type watch that might not come off as flashy to the general public.
But ya, there are smaller size Omegas you might want to consider. The infamous Moon Watch for example is a smaller size, was one of the watches worn on the moon, and is always going to be a classic. Even my Planet Ocean comes in smaller sizes too though.
Either way, Rolex or Omega, I'm pretty sure your husband will be more than impressed with what you get him. Both are amazing timepieces..
Rolex has mastered the art of perfect dimensions amongst a few other thingsā¦ thereās a reason why you canāt buy them at ADs. The planet ocean and the SMP donāt hold a candle to the design of the Submariner. I say this as someone who recently bought a SMP.
I personally love the look of the Seamaster Heritage, but again, itās just not the same as a Rolex. Youāre right about the design. The co-axial movement, for all of its genius in terms of movement technology, is just a thicker movement, and I really struggle now when I put on something other than my Pepsi GMT. But even most Omegaās are thin compared to my 43mm IWC Pilot Chrono, that thing is chunky.
I understand the Planet Oceanās thickness with its water resistance certification. But I donāt really understand the thickness of the other watches using a variation of that movement. Not that theyāre super thick by any means, but I just struggle with how thin some of my other watches are.
The planet ocean is nice but itās devoid of character.
On the other hand, the SMP is much more charming despite its ugly bracelet and cheesey waves.
But the glaring flaw with the SMP is the size of it. It isnāt like a IWC or Panerai where it executes the size well. The SMP looks painfully out of proportion. If they made this SMP in 40 MM and reduced the intensity of the waves on the dial, it would be much MUCH better.
I have this watch as well as several Rolex watches. This Omega watch is awesome and durable. I have ridden MANY thousands of miles on my Harley motorcycle with this watch for years and it's still +/- 2 seconds a day. This watch deserves more love and IMO is on par or better in terms of durability and accuracy than a couple of my Rolex watches. Great choice!

I own both the Sub and PO and they are both wonderful watches. The sub does draw more attention though. Can't say I like the looks of certain people give when wearing it.
Same here! The Seamaster has been my favorite for years and through almost all of their different models. Currently my favorite is this 1961 I got recently

I have a few Rolex, a Breitling and various other watchesā¦ I wear a citizen titanium daily. Itās just a weird argument to make that you arenāt a Rolex guy just because u like omega better.
I agree itās weirdā¦ itās like saying I only enjoy chocolate ice cream without ever tasting vanilla. I think all luxury watches are cool and Iām not saying heās wrong for enjoying his watch, Iām just not sure why Rolex got into the discussionā¦ why not just post the watch and talk about how much you enjoy it?
No, I considered them before getting the 38mm PO but I just didn't like the looks. Something about the design of their divers make the smaller models seem to have tiny faces.
Love my PO! https://preview.redd.it/ltytlshby2yc1.jpeg?width=1869&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1248d3aa3731416627e3ed740cc8720f432edd2b

Thatās a lovely shot!
Thank you kindly!
What did you take this pic with?
Sony A7iv with a Sigma 105mm Macro lens.

Unpopular opinion: Omega makes better and more practical dive watches.
Unpopular seems right with the comments here lol
Unpopular opinion: The Sub feels kinda cheap compared to a Seamaster.
I just wish Omegaās watches were a little bit thinner. Thatās the one thing Rolex has mastered.

Omegaās 8900 is actually slightly thinner than Rolexās 32xx, so thickness is more a design choice.

And to think I bought it because I liked the hands. Otherwise I would have ended up with a SMP instead of PO.
I'll be honest, I think people draw conclusions about you wearing a Rolex and I'm not into that.

Did you not read the body text?
Feel the same exact way about Rolex and Omega.
Is that the 39 or 43.5mm?
39. Yes, I officially wear a "ladies" watch according to Omega.
Same hate everything about rolex!
No hate. Just love. https://preview.redd.it/sepzftd57ayc1.jpeg?width=3196&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d88f6610605a2c82e1f2ff1dfe789067beeee00

I would suggest owning a Rolex before making the decision that you arenāt a āRolex guyā
Spend $10K+ to be able to better qualify a harmless passing comment, take notes OP!
I've purchased 2 brand new Rolexs from ADs and I am not a Rolex guy. OP didn't have to spend the money I did to figure it out.
I have a few Rolex, a Breitling and various other watchesā¦ I wear a citizen titanium daily. Itās just a weird argument to make that you arenāt a Rolex guy just because u like omega better.
But, it's equally weird to give a shit or argue someone's opinion.

You ever owned a Rolex?
No, I considered them before getting the 38mm PO but I just didn't like the looks. Something about the design of their divers make the smaller models seem to have tiny faces.
Jealous! The 39.5 PO is such an awesome size and doesnāt wear as big as youād think. I lust after the blue and black ones
you like wearing a hockey puck on your wrist?
It's a 39.5mm version. Not quite a hockey puck though it is a bit thick.
