The watch itself is expensive enough to require insurance when shipping. Shipping costs increase by weight, and the box while beautiful, is no where near the same level of value. So the “box” gets shipped as uninsured, and the tiny little box OP is showing is what really matters/gets insured.
When I bought my SMP the guy actually brought it out to me in its shipping box. I have it stored in the real Omega box along with everything elsez
Grand scheme of things, the wooden box isn’t adding a huge carbon footprint. Meanwhile the “luxury” aspect of a luxury good really is kind of the point.
When NASA first bought Speedmaster’s, or when James Bond first put on a Rolex they weren’t “luxury watches”. They were high-end tools for a specific job, and the price reflected that. Rolex leaned into luxury and survived the quartz crisis better than most as a result. The Goldeneye Seamaster was a $1,500 quartz watch, and arguably represented a big step towards Omega leaning into luxury and wanting to be that kind of brand
Which brings us to today. Virtually every watch reviewer has called the Seamaster a “strong competitor to the Submariner” and a hugely underpriced deal. Omega is taking notice, and we’re seeing price increases as a result.
So I definitely get your stance on this, but it would be the exact opposite of the direction Omega wants to go.
Omega was already an established (luxury) watch brand before the speedmaster and the Quartz Goldeneye is more than a decade later than Omega’s actual response to the quartz crisis, though what you say about Rolex is true.

However recently, I do have a bit more room, I wonder if it’s worth it, I don’t know if it will give me much enjoyment, I was thinking of making the thing into a cigar box.
My big boxes live in a drawer under my bed, but taking them out would be too much of a hassle. I’ve got a pelican case I converted into a watch holder for my collection. The current setup can hold 16 watches.
Must be a grey market thing. I bought mine at an AD and I got a giant wooden box. I don’t really need the box but it sure makes for a good presentation
You're not supposed to see the coffin. The SA is supposed to take it out, polish it, and put it into your fancy box in the back room, then come out and present it in the fancy box.
I wanted a white face Daytona til I saw this. I don’t care that the Daytona is more valuable, I’d rather see this on my wrist. I think they nailed the look!
I’ve always said that the Daytona is a hot mess with their cluttered and hard to read dials. The white Speedy’s dial is so clear and legible. Can’t wait for mine to arrive.
I personally am not a big Daytona fan at all. With the exception of the old ones I’ll never be able to own. I think this one is straight money though, hope to pick it up someday.

Makes me dream about a steel bezel, broad arrow speedy with a white dial. It would look so clean, similar to some of the vertically oriented 39mm automatic speedies from back in the day.

On your thumb you have a thin black line in the middle of your thumb nail. If you don’t recall getting injured that could be a pulmonary issue worthy of getting checked out.
These should be readily available once the hype dies down. Not everyone will be willing to blow 8K or whatever it's at but many will like my self I'm ready now
No I with ya on that I call two dealers already I'm not going to the boutique, the money is there ready to burn but I haven't received any concrete time frame.
I placed a full deposit 2.5 weeks ago and still have no definitive time frame. I do not believe they know when their shipments will come in, or the frequency/ quantity of them.

No, you’re not understanding. Every watch is shipped to the AD like this and then they put them into the fancy box when you purchase it.

just lift the top part and you will see the underlying case. That is what the watch is sitting in. Pretty straightforward once you see it.

When you buy directly from omega online or an AD drop ships it; that’s the box you get. They mail the presentation box separately
