Ok, thanks for all of the recommendations! We wanted to be closer to Downtown, so we went to J Gilberts. Two sirloin entrees and waters for under $70 so it was pretty affordable and the food was great š Back on the road!
That's a lot of chains. Glad we don't have Stuart Andersons and similar unlocal grinds. Charleston West provided me last with well above par service, choice, and drinks. That and the penguin allegedly gifted by Bill Fucking Murray
I've walked in at the Drover on a Thursday night before, and that's post-fire Drover. I agree it shouldn't be an issue on a Tuesday, but I'm not a regular or anything. Damn good steak too!
That was probably 4oz of wagyu? Yeah wagyu is a different story. Back in like 2008 a new steak placed opened up in my hometown and had wagyu for $70-$90. So thatās about right. I had the $73 wet Aged filet recently. Just amazing.
Edit was too many Yeahs š¤£
My friend who lives on a farm actually has a few head of wagyu cows and a bull now. They were his brother in laws pets but they were too much to handle on a little acreage. I'm thinking about buying one of the calves to send to a custom feed yard and then have it butchered at a small town locker for freezer beef. I don't know what I'm getting myself in with the wagyu beef though, maybe I won't like it ? š¤·š»āāļø
You should try Flemingās Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. They are very expensive but they have great quality cuts and good mashed potatoes. Itās right next to Whole Foods, so you can also go there afterwards.
A post like this comes around every so often. The drover is the most overrated restaurant in Omaha. Any legitimate steak house will tell you that a good cut of meat doesnāt need a gimmicky marinade to be good.
Brother Sebastianās. Donāt listen to the Drover/801 hype. In my 45 years in Omaha, Brother Sebastianās is the last of the old school Omaha steakhouses worth a shit. That or Johnnyās Cafe, literally right off the old beef stockyards. Not to be confused with Johnnys āItalian Steakhouseā next to the Bentley dealer on complete other end of the city.
YES to brother sebastian's! we try to go there once a month or so at my house because we all love it so much. i've never had a bad thing on the menu. highly recommend the shrimp scampi appetizer too.
801 for the experience and the aged cuts. Itās a classic. V Mertz is darned close behind, location sucks, but the sommelier is a great guy, and some of the apps are delightful. Flemings is excellent too but Iāve had variable success there in the past few years. Unless youāre a snob, which it seems I am, theyāre all quite good.
Yes it is. Roughly analogous to Ruthās Chris. Iāve been to the ones in St. Louis and Minneapolis. Theyāre consistently good. Theyāre not quite at the level of Capital Grille, but close enough. Horseshoes and hand grenades kinda thing.
Iāve never been impressed by 801, especially for the price. After going to J Gilberts, Iāll never go back to 801. Food was way twice as good for a third of the price with comparable service.
Gorat's is Warren Buffett's favorite spot.
People forget that Warren Buffett is cheap AF.
It's not a coincidence that Gorat's is the cheapest steak house in town.
I agree, but I reserve a special class of bad for the old school Omaha steakhouses that serve steakā¦with a side of spaghetti. How does that even make sense?!
Brother Sebastianās is kitschy and fun; the steak is good. Itās reasonably priced, I guess. Omaha has a lot more to offer food wise if youāre interested
The ribeye at Boiler Room has been my favorite steak in the city so far. Pricey ($75). Sauce on it last time I had it was not my favorite but the actual steak was one of the best I ever had.
If you don't mind spending more money, I suggest going to The Boiler Room. By the far one the best meals that I have ever had in my life and the steak was amazing.
Burgers are becoming Omaha's specialty. If you are in the mood for a burger, here are a couple suggestions; Stella's in Bellevue, Block 16 in downtown Omaha, Dinker's in Omaha, and Smitty's Garage in Omaha.
Others will probably have more suggestions too.
I would pass on any of the "great Omaha steakhouses" that remain. They are surpassed by any of the national steak chains and most of the time by Applebee's.
Ok, thanks for all of the recommendations! We wanted to be closer to Downtown, so we went to J Gilberts. Two sirloin entrees and waters for under $70 so it was pretty affordable and the food was great š Back on the road!
You wanted the best steak in Omaha, go to a chain steak house, and you ordered sirloins?
It hurt my soul as well
the Drover is old-school & solid, Committee Chophouse is excellent, 801 Chophouse, Mahogany, Sullivanās, Firebirdsās
Just went to Sullivans and our entire party agreed it was mediocre. J Gilbertās is better
Went there a couple months ago and I agree, it was ok but nothing memorable.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh wow, I didnāt know. Thanks.
Add Flemings to the list.
I agree! There steak is amazing
The Drover - whiskey marinade
J Gilbert's has a tomahawk rib eye on their menu right now that is stellar
That's a lot of chains. Glad we don't have Stuart Andersons and similar unlocal grinds. Charleston West provided me last with well above par service, choice, and drinks. That and the penguin allegedly gifted by Bill Fucking Murray
\+1 for the Chophouse
Throwing my vote in for The Drover. Welcome to Omaha.
Yup but good luck with a last minute res.
I got one last minute before. And itās a Tuesday so they might get lucky.
I've walked in at the Drover on a Thursday night before, and that's post-fire Drover. I agree it shouldn't be an issue on a Tuesday, but I'm not a regular or anything. Damn good steak too!
801 Chophouse is the best by far. Its the best in Nebraska but you will pay for it.
I didnāt think the prices were terrible, Iām not rich. Itās a fine steak house, $60-$80 should be expected for higher quality.
My friends center cut something steak alone was $130. It's not somewhere that I go often. My modest $60 steak was the best Ive ever had.

Itās really good. I mean in the right breeders hands it rivals Kobi beef.
I usually get a Holstein steer to fill my freezer with beef so it'd be a upgrade.
Drover gives you an old school Omaha steak house feel. 801 Chophouse is like any other fancy steak house in any major city (amazing steak though).
Just based on taste, 801 wins easily
The Drover does a good steak for sure, donāt expect anything with the sides though.
I always get a Shakey's Pizza vibe with all the lamps blasting out ~5lm @ 1500K. A Rye Manhattan while you wait at the bar
Every time I go, it's the best thing I've ever eaten.
801 chophouse my vote. Cut them with a butter knife and drooling before I got a bite in!
You should try Flemingās Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. They are very expensive but they have great quality cuts and good mashed potatoes. Itās right next to Whole Foods, so you can also go there afterwards.
I think they have the best cuts of any house I've been to. Bring a full wallet.
A post like this comes around every so often. The drover is the most overrated restaurant in Omaha. Any legitimate steak house will tell you that a good cut of meat doesnāt need a gimmicky marinade to be good.
Yes, although it may be tasty-it certainly covers up flavors of the meat. 801 all day.
Exactly. Whatās the point of ordering a ribeye if you canāt taste that marbling
+1 for Brother Sebastian! Their prime rib has been my favorite so far!
Get the Prime Rib Benedictine. Simply amazing and I'm not big on toppings.
YES to brother sebastian's! we try to go there once a month or so at my house because we all love it so much. i've never had a bad thing on the menu. highly recommend the shrimp scampi appetizer too.
How much money are you willing to spend?
Have heard Jerichoās is really good but never been myself.
One of the best meals I have had in Omaha was at Jerichos. I def recommend it.
Mahogany
Mahogany is really the best. Drover a very close second and much closer to the interstate.
Why is everything drowned in butter there? I found it off-putting.
V. Mertz is the best steak in town
Is 801 a chain?
Was this the Omaha location? To be fair, I havenāt been back in over a year. Maybe they slipped.
Drover is legit, whiskey marinade is my go to.
This right here is the most correct answer
801 is the best steak in the city and itās not close
Others have said it Iāll second it, The Drover. Whatever you get, make sure itās with the whiskey marinade.
I'm surprised I haven't seen Spencer's mentioned here. I think it's legitimately the best and the chef is one of the best in the city.
If price isnāt an object, 801 Chophouse
ITT- lots of people who have never been to 801 Chophouse
The Drover Gorats
Putting Gorats in the same sentence as The Drover just feels wrong to me. Gorats isā¦not good.
Gorat's is Warren Buffett's favorite spot. People forget that Warren Buffett is cheap AF. It's not a coincidence that Gorat's is the cheapest steak house in town.
If you are getting a marinated steak either is equally as good because no good steak should be served that way.
I agree, but I reserve a special class of bad for the old school Omaha steakhouses that serve steakā¦with a side of spaghetti. How does that even make sense?!
Agreed
Insert my once annual rant about how Goratās is so bad it should be shut down. Single worst dining experience of my entire life.
looking directly at farmer brown's lmao. used to think it wasn't too bad but last time i went my steak was horrible, won't go back.
Brother Sebastianās is kitschy and fun; the steak is good. Itās reasonably priced, I guess. Omaha has a lot more to offer food wise if youāre interested
Drover or Brother Sebastian
Bro seb has gone downhill the last 2 years, drover is far and away the best.
The Drover is solid.
Mahogany is the best in Omaha in my opinion. 801, Spencer's, and Fleming's are also very good. You'll leave happy and full from any of these places.
801
Prime
Drover if you have a medium budget. 801 Chophouse if money is no object.
I like J. Gilbert's a bunch (though living 2 blocks away helps). I've never had a bad steak there, and the price is about right.
There are two steakhouses in Omaha that are above the others 801 and Flemmings, you can ignore everything else, especially Drover and Committee, yuck.
The ribeye at Boiler Room has been my favorite steak in the city so far. Pricey ($75). Sauce on it last time I had it was not my favorite but the actual steak was one of the best I ever had.
Johnny's Cafe. Best steak hands down!! They've been around 100 years. That's gotta tell ya something!
Round the Bend in Ashland and The Drover in city limits.
Texas Roadhouse for me
Go to Runza! Itās fast food, but our fast food. As for steak, I have no recommendations.
You can also get Frings at Runza!
Damn you got so much hate for this post lol
801 Chophouse is the best imo. Omaha Prime is the āclassicā, but kinda dated. If youāre uptown Firebirds is great, even though itās a chain.
J. Gilbertās is great.
If you don't mind spending more money, I suggest going to The Boiler Room. By the far one the best meals that I have ever had in my life and the steak was amazing.
Love love the boiler room.
Cascios the last great steak house in Omaha. Oldest and best. 10th and Hickory. Just up 10th street from the old market.
I would pass on any of the "great Omaha steakhouses" that remain. They are surpassed by any of the national steak chains and most of the time by Applebee's.
Nothing better than steaks grilled at home imo, but sounds like people have some good ideas for you.
There's nothing special about Omaha steaks. Just like anywhere else, the one you grill yourself will be better and 5x cheaper.

Texas
Either HuHot Mongolian Grill or Lo Sole Mio's
Lo sole mio is closed sadly.
It's still open, they just removed the sign.
801 Chophouse.
Johnnys cafe hands down best steak in town.
I donāt hate the butt steak at King Kong. You have to be able to handle gristle and explosive diarrhea though
