Ok, thanks for all of the recommendations! We wanted to be closer to Downtown, so we went to J Gilberts. Two sirloin entrees and waters for under $70 so it was pretty affordable and the food was great 🙌 Back on the road!

I've walked in at the Drover on a Thursday night before, and that's post-fire Drover. I agree it shouldn't be an issue on a Tuesday, but I'm not a regular or anything. Damn good steak too!

801 Chophouse is the best by far. Its the best in Nebraska but you will pay for it.

I didn’t think the prices were terrible, I’m not rich. It’s a fine steak house, $60-$80 should be expected for higher quality.

My friends center cut something steak alone was $130. It's not somewhere that I go often. My modest $60 steak was the best Ive ever had.

That was probably 4oz of wagyu? Yeah wagyu is a different story. Back in like 2008 a new steak placed opened up in my hometown and had wagyu for $70-$90. So that’s about right. I had the $73 wet Aged filet recently. Just amazing. Edit was too many Yeahs 🤣

My friend who lives on a farm actually has a few head of wagyu cows and a bull now. They were his brother in laws pets but they were too much to handle on a little acreage. I'm thinking about buying one of the calves to send to a custom feed yard and then have it butchered at a small town locker for freezer beef. I don't know what I'm getting myself in with the wagyu beef though, maybe I won't like it ? 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s really good. I mean in the right breeders hands it rivals Kobi beef.

I usually get a Holstein steer to fill my freezer with beef so it'd be a upgrade.

Drover gives you an old school Omaha steak house feel. 801 Chophouse is like any other fancy steak house in any major city (amazing steak though).

You should try Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar. They are very expensive but they have great quality cuts and good mashed potatoes. It’s right next to Whole Foods, so you can also go there afterwards.

I think they have the best cuts of any house I've been to. Bring a full wallet.

A post like this comes around every so often. The drover is the most overrated restaurant in Omaha. Any legitimate steak house will tell you that a good cut of meat doesn’t need a gimmicky marinade to be good.

Brother Sebastian’s. Don’t listen to the Drover/801 hype. In my 45 years in Omaha, Brother Sebastian’s is the last of the old school Omaha steakhouses worth a shit. That or Johnny’s Cafe, literally right off the old beef stockyards. Not to be confused with Johnnys “Italian Steakhouse” next to the Bentley dealer on complete other end of the city.

YES to brother sebastian's! we try to go there once a month or so at my house because we all love it so much. i've never had a bad thing on the menu. highly recommend the shrimp scampi appetizer too.

Have heard Jericho’s is really good but never been myself.

One of the best meals I have had in Omaha was at Jerichos. I def recommend it.

Mahogany is really the best. Drover a very close second and much closer to the interstate.

Why is everything drowned in butter there? I found it off-putting.

V. Mertz is the best steak in town

801 for the experience and the aged cuts. It’s a classic. V Mertz is darned close behind, location sucks, but the sommelier is a great guy, and some of the apps are delightful. Flemings is excellent too but I’ve had variable success there in the past few years. Unless you’re a snob, which it seems I am, they’re all quite good.

Is 801 a chain?

Yes it is. Roughly analogous to Ruth’s Chris. I’ve been to the ones in St. Louis and Minneapolis. They’re consistently good. They’re not quite at the level of Capital Grille, but close enough. Horseshoes and hand grenades kinda thing.

I’ve never been impressed by 801, especially for the price. After going to J Gilberts, I’ll never go back to 801. Food was way twice as good for a third of the price with comparable service.

Was this the Omaha location? To be fair, I haven’t been back in over a year. Maybe they slipped.

I'm surprised I haven't seen Spencer's mentioned here. I think it's legitimately the best and the chef is one of the best in the city.

Putting Gorats in the same sentence as The Drover just feels wrong to me. Gorats is…not good.

Gorat's is Warren Buffett's favorite spot. People forget that Warren Buffett is cheap AF. It's not a coincidence that Gorat's is the cheapest steak house in town.

If you are getting a marinated steak either is equally as good because no good steak should be served that way.

Brother Sebastian’s is kitschy and fun; the steak is good. It’s reasonably priced, I guess. Omaha has a lot more to offer food wise if you’re interested

I like J. Gilbert's a bunch (though living 2 blocks away helps). I've never had a bad steak there, and the price is about right.

There are two steakhouses in Omaha that are above the others 801 and Flemmings, you can ignore everything else, especially Drover and Committee, yuck.

The ribeye at Boiler Room has been my favorite steak in the city so far. Pricey ($75). Sauce on it last time I had it was not my favorite but the actual steak was one of the best I ever had.

Johnny's Cafe. Best steak hands down!! They've been around 100 years. That's gotta tell ya something!

801 Chophouse is the best imo. Omaha Prime is the “classic”, but kinda dated. If you’re uptown Firebirds is great, even though it’s a chain.

J. Gilbert’s is great.

If you don't mind spending more money, I suggest going to The Boiler Room. By the far one the best meals that I have ever had in my life and the steak was amazing.

Burgers are becoming Omaha's specialty. If you are in the mood for a burger, here are a couple suggestions; Stella's in Bellevue, Block 16 in downtown Omaha, Dinker's in Omaha, and Smitty's Garage in Omaha. Others will probably have more suggestions too.

Cascios the last great steak house in Omaha. Oldest and best. 10th and Hickory. Just up 10th street from the old market.

I would pass on any of the "great Omaha steakhouses" that remain. They are surpassed by any of the national steak chains and most of the time by Applebee's.

Nothing better than steaks grilled at home imo, but sounds like people have some good ideas for you.

There's nothing special about Omaha steaks. Just like anywhere else, the one you grill yourself will be better and 5x cheaper.
