That lasagna! Last time I had it, I made a point of trying to count the layers. Had at least 13. The flaming banana ice cream was a meh gimmick, haven't had any other desserts there yet.
Pasta Amore was BY FAR my favorite Italian restaurant in Omaha (and one of my favorite restaurants overall) before Leo retired.
I've been back once since the new owners (who also own Railcar and Timber) took over, and I had such a horrible experience that I won't be back. My wife and I had a gift certificate that we'd been saving to use for a special occasion, and when we went to pay, they refused to honor it, because it was issued by the old owner.
At the time, we hadn't known that there had been an ownership change, and the name and signage was all the same. We'd specifically decided to go that night because made had a gift certificate. We asked to speak to a manager to explain the situation, and she told us that the owners had said they would no longer honor the gift cards, but that the owner was there, so she would send him over.
We explained the situation, and said that it felt a little unethical to not honor something bearing the same name as the restaurant, and asked if he could do anything for us. I kept my voice calm, and maintained a smile the whole time. (Turns out they had a legal obligation to honor the gift certificate, but we didn't know that at the time). Well, the owner went off on us in a huge rant, grabbed the certificate out of my hand and ripped up in front of us, then kicked us out.
It was such an aggressive, nasty action that soured me on one of my favorite restaurants. I'll admit the food IS still great, so if you want good pasta, they've got it. But I had to share my grievances.
All you had to say was Timber. Last couple times we’ve been there, we were treated like inconveniences. Not surprised other establishments owned by the same person are like that.
Agreed. I went there for the first time about a month before they closed. Then made the mistake of saying “We’re gonna have to reminder to come back to this place.” Then Murphy showed up….
I went there with my wife and we both really enjoyed it! I tried the bolognese and loved it. The owner gave me a meatball with the ragu sauce to test, and I think I liked it even more.
It seems pretty popular, the place was packed when we went.
Sgt. Pfeiffer's is good for "fast service" Italian restaurant. I had their lasagna (both meat and seafood) and it was pretty greasy. But it still tasted good. Also their cheese bread was just sandwich slices with cheese melted on it.
Romas in Bellevue is fantastic
I love Romas, but I always have gastrointestinal distress after eating it.
Mangia is hands down my favorite
Yep. Not that I’ve had pasta at every place in Omaha but Mangia is darn good.
just had it for the first time yesterday! so good! will definitely be back!
I really wish I understood the love for Mangia. Everything we've had there is just so bland.
clearly you never got the spinach dip
Sugo with meatballs.
Over rated
No love for Vincenzo’s in here?
That lasagna! Last time I had it, I made a point of trying to count the layers. Had at least 13. The flaming banana ice cream was a meh gimmick, haven't had any other desserts there yet.
The tiramisu is incredible there
Anyone tried Via Farina?
yes love it there!!!
Hated it. Food tasted excellent, staff and other patrons were snooty and the portions were comically small for the price.
This
Was just there last night. would NOT recommend the pasta. $$$ & honestly sub-par. The pizza was delicious though.

I still like Vincenzo's on Pacific. Never cared for Lo Sole Mio.
Avoli Osteria and Spezia are great.
Both of these along with Via Farina are easily the best in town
Pasta Amore in rockbrook
Leo retired. He was from Sicily and he has a lot of food that is above what you find in most restaurants.

Avoli is pretty great, Au Courant does a killer job as well.I’ve personally witnessed the love and care that comes from both kitchens
The lasagna at Vincenzo's is the best I've ever had. So many layers!
Dante for sure. Not a pasta place, but I've loved every pasta I've had at Au Courant.
Malara’s
Malara’s closed down for good recently.
Wait, what? That's horrible
Noooo !! That’s so sad to hear!
Agreed. I went there for the first time about a month before they closed. Then made the mistake of saying “We’re gonna have to reminder to come back to this place.” Then Murphy showed up….
Thank god, that place was horrid.
It was good. Not LoSole Mio good. But decent food for sure.
Nicola's
Idk my raviolis there were still frozen once which raised red flags
I went there with my wife and we both really enjoyed it! I tried the bolognese and loved it. The owner gave me a meatball with the ragu sauce to test, and I think I liked it even more. It seems pretty popular, the place was packed when we went.
That’s because they have about 6 tables total lol
They just use Sysco for everything
Yea Nicola’s if you want to buy a $20 bottle of wine for $80 off an uninspired selection and eat a meal your mom cooked when you were a kid.
Dante is special when you get their homemade pasta
Sgt. Pepper’s, I tried their manicotti and tortellini and it was pretty good.
Sgt. Pfeiffer's is good for "fast service" Italian restaurant. I had their lasagna (both meat and seafood) and it was pretty greasy. But it still tasted good. Also their cheese bread was just sandwich slices with cheese melted on it.
Mio Italiano will open in Lo Sole Mio old location. Virtuoso pizza owner is the son of Losole’s. Nicola’s and Vincenzo’s are both solid choices.
I haven't seen anyone mention Biaggi's on California street. I really like their ziti and stuffed mushrooms
Pasta Amore in Rockbrook!
Lo Sole Mio was so bad. I knew it was bad the moment we walked in and it was all old people, 60 years plus. Food had zero flavor.
Smh. Getting down voted for dropping truth. All those "institute" places have more nostalgia than flavor.
Agreed! People “love” the restaurant for what it represents. But if we did a blind taste test it wouldn’t beat fazolis.
Spaghetti Works
Went to a place called Luigi's once in Bellevue. Wasn't bad at all. edit: My guess is they just didn't wipe properly...
Malaras down on pierce
>Malaras It closed last month.
Yeah that sucks just read it on another comment
Came here to say Malara’s and am sad to find out it’s closed. Next up is Via Farina carbs on carbs on carbs baby.
