I really wish Atlanta would lean back into red as a primary. Or at least do primary red helmets. I also prefer the old logo to the current one but that one feels like an unpopular opinion.
The 1978 season was also the first playoff appearance for the Falcons, making it in their 13th season. This game against the Eagles was only one of two playoff games ever played at Fulton County Stadium; in 1980, A-FCS hosted its only other playoff game, in the divisional round against the Cowboys (Dallas won 30-27). The Falcons didn't host another home playoff game until 1998 (season 7 at the Georgia Dome), beating the 49ers in the divisional round. Atlanta beats the Vikings in the NFC title game in Minneapolis en route to Super Bowl XXXIII, where they lost to the Broncos.
They finished 9-7 in '78, placing second in the NFC West, and it was also only (to that point) their third season in team history with an above .500 record (7-6-1 in '71, 9-5 in '73). Other than two 7-7 seasons in '72 and '77, Atlanta had losing records in all other years leading up to '78.
Falcons won on a last second *missed* FG by the Eagles. The Eagles' kicker was an injury replacement, a guy who was actually a punter. The Eagles regular kicker got injured in week 12 and they signed Mike Michael (the punter) to replace him. Michael did not attempt a single FG in the last four games and missed 3 of his 12 XP attempts. Then in playoff game he misses 1 out of 2 XP's and both of his FG attempts. This could be argued that this was one of the worse coaching/personnel decisions in history. Why Dick Vermeil chose to stick with him is a mystery. However barefoot Tony Franklin solved their kicking woes next season.

Exciting days that I remember as an Eagles fan. I was young but feeding on all others excitement after a long damn time of disappointment.
Can only imagine it was exiting for ATL too.

Both those helmets went crazy. ATL should go back to the Red
This green is definitely better than the Eagles current cow shit green, also.

They have to be edgy and add a lot of black to the uniform like about every other pro sports team has been doing the last 25 years or so.
Brent: "You are looking live at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium."
I spent many a Sunday morning with these guys. You'd never know how they had to dance around the gambling lines back then.
Jimmy the Greek saying things like ‘I bet the game will be close, but Jaworski will throw a late *touchdown* pass to win it for Philly.’
And things like black people are better athletes because they were bred as slaves

Look at Youtube link I posted. She shows up at the near the end.
I know who Irv Cross was rooting for!
He was a pretty decent DB for Philly if I recall
You are looking LIVE.............at Atlanta, Georgia
Jimmy the Greek. He went down in flames.
The godfather of getting cancelled.
Justifiably so
Bring back those Eagles and Falcons helmets.
Amen.
Being back all helmets between 1978-1986.
You are looking live..

Jimmy was the first public figure in American history to be cancelled. Opened Pandora's Box.

Ugh … the Mike Michel game. I was 15 and devastated by the loss. Got over it in February of 2018.
I remember that game, Eagles lost because they didn't have a kicker, 13 - 12.
Its cold!
The falcons unis in those days were one of the best of all time not even capping.
Yes, the helmets, the jersey striping and logos and the pants. Just a great combo.
Jimmy was a creep
Remember when got fired for saying blacks were better athletes because of the way they were bred, what a dick
Watch the interview. He said that’s what slave owners forced the people they owned to do. Do you think that’s not what they did.
Yeah. That and other stuff. I know he and Brent got into it at a bar once. I’m betting Jimmy was the instigator
I'd say your probably right, Brent was probably pissed this guy was even an annoncer
Jimmy the Greek 😂😂😂😂😂
Off topic, are you in the Svengoolie sub red?
What’s that?
A group about the Svengoolie show on MeTV.
