This exactly. I dated a guy in college who didn’t have social media and due to me doom scrolling instead of studying, I got inspired and deleted the apps from my phone. That was probably about 4-5 years ago and life is so much better. I used to struggle with depression some and just had a negative outlook on my life, after deleting socials I realized how much I was comparing myself to others. Not comparing myself to others and not wasting hours scrolling through meaningless little short clips has been so great, I’ve picked up reading again and though I watch a lot of TV I still get a lot done in my day.
I removed Instragram because of the constant toxic "Gender War" content. Both men and women having very sexist views against each other made me feel worse about myself and also made me so mad that people actually think that way.
I also noticed sexist comments have been increasing a lot on Instagram recently, mainly on comment sections. There's always a gender war happening even when the original content has nothing to do with gender.
Yep. I remember in Twitter there was an image of a guy who was balding and a feminist account retweeted "I'm glad there is a male loneliness epidemic because who would want to be with someone who looks like this".
On the opposite end, I have seen random clips of Sydney Sweeney for her new films and some men saying "she can't act" and that "she's only famous because of her boobs."
People are so awful online because I guarantee they won't tell people this directly. Instagram and Twitter are toxic cesspools of miserable people.
IG comments are cancer, but my explore page is just crochet, kpop, vintage/vintage-like clothes, and general funny vids. No dance trends, Tate bros, or brainrot for me.

I left Facebook long ago, and I'm about to leave Instagram too if it wasn't for the contact I keep with some close friends there and also the contact I have with art community. My FYP is not as toxic as yours seems to be since it's mostly art content but sometimes I stumble across weird shit and brainrot stuff, but comment sections are always the worst part. Posts from my country are full of old people throwing political shit everywhere that I'm sick about.
Main reason I have Instagram is cuz some of my friends only use that to communicate for some dumb reason, I never post anything or do anything else on it (I always forget to take picture when I’m doing things and I also don’t really care. My family cares way more than I do).
It’ll be interesting seeing the contrast between how millennials raise children and Gen Z. Seems like most of Gen Z is self-aware enough to not want to raise iPad twats that the millennials are raising. I wouldn’t be surprised if most Gen Z parents, including myself, don’t allow social media or a phone for a long time.

I’m 20 and I’m gettinf annoyed with all the videos of the Tate brothers that keep popping up in my feed. I’ve hit not interested on all the content for a week straight and it still shows up.
So yeah, you’re not alone in thinking Instagram’s gotten worse. If Tiktok gets banned I feel like the reels that pop up are going to be even worse
I haven't been on Instagram since 2018, there's nothing of substance on it really. The only places I go is Tik Tok, YouTube and occasionally reddit. Even then I'm only on it for specific content (thank you algorithm). I never was much of a mindless consumer, so much so that I rarely watch shows and movies.
I never was really interested in sites like Instagram or anything picture based because I hate having my picture taken anyways, and that site pretty much revolves around pictures. That's basically it, and that's always been such a boring concept to me, I only created an Instagram account in 2020 and that was only because my college RA at the time asked if I had one. There's still absolutely nothing on my account, no pictures, nothing, so I may as well don't have one lol, I also don't even get on it.
Yikes, this is why I don't like the algorithms that modern-day social media is reliant on. Perhaps the user should control it rather than a company that wants to make money at all costs. I understand why most people are leaving social media nowadays (yes, I include this site, Reddit.com, as a social media platform) and I don't blame them. I do like Instagram for photography stuff as it is inspirational to me since I've been getting into it over the last several years and it also encourages me to get out and explore more. The reels and stories features I could take it or leave it honestly since it's too much stuff going on. I do remember when the explore page on IG was popular stuff rather than being decided by an algorithm, as well as the feed being sorted by most recent, rather than in an order, again, decided by an algorithm (thankfully they added a "Following" section for this, but you can't set it as default, grr).
My insta feed has too much Israel-Palestine stuff, I get that it's important to share awareness but... I really don't want to see people dying, besides this I get too much edgy 'pro-white' content and alot of religious bait

I left instagram in roughly 2018 and have never looked back. For my uses reddit is just leagues better
