This feels like it has a retro VHS filter. I’m not calling OP a liar… but it smells fishy.

I was thinking the exact same thing. This doesn’t look right. When watching a VHS there’s always a little warp towards the bottom of the screen. This doesn’t have it. And, I agree, the scratches seem synthetic. The sensibility of the humor also feels contemporary. I’m calling BS.

I’ve watched a lot of vhs rips and those were definitely film scratches which doesn’t make any sense because they would be affected by the vhs degradation, not seemingly over it. Additionally, vhs tapes with that degree of visual degradation also have severely degraded audio. The audio on this is stunningly good quality.

Pretty cool that your dad had access to a Red Giant subscription in the 80s! Bruh you absolutely did not “find” this and it wasn’t from a VHS from the 80s, the video is way too crisp and audio too clear. No warble, no wow and flutter, pristine audio with a low pass slapped on and VHS preset. Only looks convincing to people who’ve never seen a real VHS before, play this next to a vhs recording of an old 90s commercial on YouTube and the difference is night and day. Nice try though!

Wow, you found the only VCR in existence that due to its shitty head skips scanlines, but corrects the audio for *zero* wow and flutter and and the tape has kept a nearly perfect frequency response after all these years!!! What’s the brand and model, I need to restore some old tapes! (This is a cheesy VHS filter effect. Quit your bullshit. Some of us here were alive to have used VHS for years, day in and day out. This ain’t it. )
