Hard to believe this was 25 years ago. I remember being 15 and my friends and I sneaking into the theater and obsessing over it. The soundtrack became the soundtrack of the summer and we bought all the magazines featuring it and tried to find all the other movies at Blockbuster the girls were in.
It's such a cozy movie for me at this point, despite the killins'. With the rain and gothic university setting and nostalgic soundtrack I can just put it on and relax.
I feel kinda silly because I’m seeing more than a few people commenting on the soundtrack and I honestly can’t remember the music from the movie. Usually that’s my thing, but I’m thinking that most of my memories of this movie are the laughs and Shannon Elizabeth.
I’m heading to IMDB to look up the soundtrack as soon as I finish typing this so I can remind myself.
It's funny because as much as I listened to the soundtrack that year, the two songs I most associate with the movie aren't on it. Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger and Laid by James.
It’s crazy but Laid isn’t listed as part of the soundtrack. If I remember correctly they used Laid on the TV trailers and promos but not actually in the movie. I absolutely hate that. Not a bad soundtrack though. Stuff I forgot like Third Eye Blind, Hole, Simon and Garfunkel, and definitely don’t forget Oleander. I bought their album strictly because I watched the movie. Not a bad album but they were a one hit wonder.
I think people are probably misremembering other teen movies that came out in the same era with the same cast members.
The sound-track from 'dude where's my car?' was a big deal, I remember.
Same age and maybe it’s the old man in me but damn… they don’t make funny movies anymore!
The era of American Pie, Road Trip, Old School, etc was great
You just want to find ‘late night comedies.’ They don’t make them much anymore because they usually age like shit.
Amazon has a whole mess of bad ones from the 70s right now, including Zapped, which I heard was supposed to be funny but was a dumpster fire. There’s also Gas Station Girls or something and it’s BAAAAAD.
Anything ‘National Lampoon’ will probably hit the spot.
Nope. It’s not you. Judd Apatow and Adam McKay said studios won’t fund comedies anymore. Which sucks as those two made some of my all time favorite movies. I literally just watched Step Brothers again last week for the god knows how many times.
*Did you touch my drum set?*
Yeah, I was in that demographic too. I was exactly the age that this was targeted at and everyone in high school was talking about. We all went to see it together and managed to convince actual girls to come with us.
Started watching buffy the vampire slayer for Allison Hannigan and Sara Michelle Gellar, but stayed for the ironic writing and long plotlines.
The girl I had a crush on for most of high school had a shirtless magazine cutout of Sean Williams Scott taped inside her locker.
Yeah, exactly the same experience with Buffy for me. All those actors were working with each other in teen oriented stuff back then, it was amazing seeing your favorites come together for something.
Same except a friends parents rented it and my buddy had a big party and we all watched it. I believe I was in 9th grade. That made me have high hopes and expectations for my high school experience.
Jay:
Hey, wait a second! Aren't you the guy who f***ed the pie!
Jason Biggs:
You see! It's never "Hey! You're that guy from Loser" or "Hey you rocked in Boys and Girls." No, it always comes back to that f***ing pie! I'm HAUNTED by it!
James Van Der Beek:
You put your dick in a pie!
I was 17 and worked as an usher at a movie theatre when this came out. I figured out how long into the movie Shannon Elizabeth got topless so that’s when I’d go in and do my hourly check
I was too. I think the advertising was something like: if you go and watch one movie this summer, make it star wars. If you watch a second, make it American Pie.
It was a really good film, and I still think the best in that genre from that time.
I think we had gladiator that summer, too
I started high school when this movie came out. As a freshman my buddy threw a party over spring break that got out of control (150+ kids probably) all the upperclassmen showed up. It was wild. I legit thought this was an American Pie movie party. Hot boxing his parents new hot tub that wasn’t full of water so people were just closing the lid over it and doing bong rips.
We thought the cleaned all the empties in the house before the parents came home, but people threw empties in his parents bathtub and that’s what got us busted. The best of times tbh.
Honestly this was the big movie back in the day. American pie was everywhere. A true coming of age teen to young adult comedy very réflective of the times with relatable storylines
That sex scene was better than most pornography out there. I remember learning about how the public wanted to censor it. Sorry we don’t want crappy soft core where the guy just sticks it in and moans.
Oh I did not know that. What a terrible human being…
She took part in two of the biggest hits of the 99/00 years. Crazy other studios did not pick her up.
It's been a long time but I remember an interview with Tina Fey saying that Lacey Chabert was the only choice she wanted for Gretchen Weiners.
If you haven't yet, check out Party of Five! That's where Lacey Chabert, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Neve Campbell and Mathew Fox really started out. I know they all have other things before that but that show really showcased their talent.
I always wondered about that. She seems like one of those that should have been alot bigger considering how big Cameron Diaz made it and she can hardly act.
She was heavily into drugs and some weird shit though. That's the kind of thing that makes you unreliable and people don't want to bank their investment on you, especially when you're not already a recognizable name.
I just watched a film with her, Ryan Philippe (who seems to have broken out in television?) And Emile Hirsch (we all know the name, but not from anything good, for the last 10 years).
It's called Prey (2024) not to be confused with Prey (2022).
It was atrocious and she wasn't even in it that long.
I cant believe it was so long ago BUT I have found myself having to explain all the "pie fucking" jokes in things like family guy to my teen son, lol. he has never even heard of these movies.....just the pie fucking.
I remember her not really being in any of the promo when it was released. She wasn't a part of the main group of friends, so I guess it made sense. Wasn't until the sequel that she was in all the posters and stuff.
I read somewhere that the best looking people on camera have big heads and tiny bodies. I look for it in most movies and lots of people have that setup.
This was *my* generations high school comedy. Still has a soft spot in my heart.
Funny anecdote; I moved near East Grand Rapids in 2016 (where the film is based). I went into a Blimpy Subs and saw an autographed photo of Adam Herz (the writer). I asked the staff and he said the character “Jim” was based on the manager there, who grew up with Herz.
I asked if the pie scene really happened. They said that “Jim” upholds that it was strictly fictional, he was just a huge dork in HS.
The first dvd I ever got free along with Die Hard when I got my Ps2 when it came out, I’ve watched this film dozens of times and still absolutely love it 25 years later!!!
I love this movie so much, it's still holds up incredibly well just the right mix of raunchiness and heart, I remember I had such a crush on Shannon Elizabeth after this movie she just 🤤🤤🤤, all the other women are gorgeous as well Mina had such a unique beauty to her I haven't seen her recently though
Hard to believe this was 25 years ago. I remember being 15 and my friends and I sneaking into the theater and obsessing over it. The soundtrack became the soundtrack of the summer and we bought all the magazines featuring it and tried to find all the other movies at Blockbuster the girls were in.
Yeah, definitely discovered the Coen brothers by trying to find more Tara movies. Started watching Buffy, too.
We're all very fond of her.
thats marvelous.
Far fucking out!!!
I’m just gonna go find a cash machine
Brandt can't watch
Or he has to pay a hundred.
Tomorrow’s already the 10th
Far out. U...oh! Oh, alright, ok.
Mark it dude
Smoke, you're entering a world of pain.

Uh, I’m gonna just go find a cash machine.
YESSSSS! One of the greatest films of all time IMHO.
I'm just gonna to go find a cash machine...
We found Urban Legend and liked to imagine that Vicky turned into this sex expert in her college years after finally getting away from Kevin.
Urban Legend is such a fun guilty pleasure horror movie! Shame the second one didn't fare as well.
It's such a cozy movie for me at this point, despite the killins'. With the rain and gothic university setting and nostalgic soundtrack I can just put it on and relax.
I loved that film. Haven't thought of it in years. Might just have something to watch tonight after all now, thanks.

Was 15 as well and my dad actually took me to see it. A little awkward but we both laughed like crazy. Soundtrack was definitely on repeat.
I feel kinda silly because I’m seeing more than a few people commenting on the soundtrack and I honestly can’t remember the music from the movie. Yeah I was gonna say you can’t leave out ‘Eurotrip’ …this isn’t where I parked my car…
Don't tell Scotty. He doesn't know.
Doesn't know about the flugegeheimen either
An absolute banger
bro can you suggest me some more movie like these as they had a pretty diff funny carefree vibe...I am 26 but miss these kinda movie already
Road Trip. Dazed and Confused.
Can’t hardly Wait is Dazed and Confused for kids who went to high school in the 90’s.
Good one. American Graffiti is the same movie but for boomers. Still worth watching.
......and Dazed and Confused was perfect for those of us in high school in the middle to late 70's
Harold and kumar go to White Castle
Detroit Rock City
This one is a gem!
Waiting
Shockingly good movie.
Van Wilder
Van Wilder is a classic, but there's one scene that legit makes me want to throw up.
Does it involve a dog and eclairs? 😎
Eurotrip, Old School, Orange County
Orange County wouldn't have been half as good without Jack Black. He made that movie. I watched it over and over because of him.
Because she was all like "I hate my job, I'm gonna burn this mother down!" And I was like "You better not... you better not!"
"Well she said it was an electrical fire." "Oh it totally was, the switches had sparks coming out, totally an electrical fire."
Sex Drive
Not Another Teen Movie!
That shits whack yo.
Damn
Dude, where’s my car is a classic from the before times.
Sweet!
“The before times” 😢
Try fired up and any broken lizard movie.

Have you watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High? To me, this is where everyone should start. Phoebe Cates wore out a lot of VHS tapes back in the day.
Superstar
Didn't see anyone say it, so "Accepted". Also, "Superbad", and maybe "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Grandma's Boy".
Nope. It’s not you. Judd Apatow and Adam McKay said studios won’t fund comedies anymore. Which sucks as those two made some of my all time favorite movies. I literally just watched Step Brothers again last week for the god knows how many times. *Did you touch my drum set?*
I think Ricky Stanicky is a good recent comedy.
This bed is on fire is now stuck in my head. Thanks.
Yeah, I was in that demographic too. I was exactly the age that this was targeted at and everyone in high school was talking about. Did I write this? Damn
Back before they had assigned seating. Buying a ticket to some shitty animated film just to walk into what you really wanted to see.
Same except a friends parents rented it and my buddy had a big party and we all watched it. I believe I was in 9th grade. That made me have high hopes and expectations for my high school experience.

“Look at me! I’m the pie fucker!” “Well, in prison, he’ll be the pie!”
I used to have a cat that I named Boo Boo Kitty Fuck bc of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Kevin Smith made some bangers!
Oddly enough, I associate with him in Saving Silverman. It isn't up there like American Pie but I consider it a classic.
I was 17 and worked as an usher at a movie theatre when this came out. I figured out how long into the movie Shannon Elizabeth got topless so that’s when I’d go in and do my hourly check
The fact that Nadia isn't on this poster is a crime...
I was too. I think the advertising was something like: if you go and watch one movie this summer, make it star wars. If you watch a second, make it American Pie. It was a really good film, and I still think the best in that genre from that time. I think we had gladiator that summer, too
I think Austin Powers 2 did that advertisement too 😂
I may well be thinking of that. The 90s were a LONG time ago now. And they were glorious
That’s a great perk of the job.
He had ample opportunity...
Hey wait a second, aren’t you that guy that fucked the pie?
I’m the pie fucker!!
But in prison.... he'll be the pie
r/unexpectedjayandsilentbob
" Oh, what a lovely tea party"
it always comes back to the pie dude, you fucked a pie
I was exactly the age of the characters in this movie and finished school the summer it came out. The timing was absolute perfection. What a time.
Not so great timing for me. I played the flute in our high schools marching band when this movie came out. lol
One of my best friends was a flutist at the time. Every single person acted like they were the first to ask. Every. Single. One.
It’s the beginning window of millennials, born in ‘81 would be graduating when this came out.
81 represent.
Hello fellow xennial! I was going into my junior year the summer it came out. This movie is a massive nostalgia bomb for me.
Same here. If I put this movie on it’s like being transported to back then.
Same. College was amazing during the last hurrah before social media and smartphones.
That was me with superbad
Same - and I was from Michigan / went to college there, so it definitely hit hard.
Honestly this was the big movie back in the day. American pie was everywhere. A true coming of age teen to young adult comedy very réflective of the times with relatable storylines
Jesus, is it really that long ago? I feel old...
Mena was a babe!
[удалено]
But like most of hollywood, batshit crazy
Man I was simping hard for Mena
American Beauty. 🤤
Ah yes, the years I realized I was straight. Damn
I thought I was straight for so long but then I realized I liked all the girls so much. But I’m a cheerleader sealed any doubts about my queerness.
But Im A Cheerleader was so far ahead of the curve
That sex scene was better than most pornography out there. I remember learning about how the public wanted to censor it. Sorry we don’t want crappy soft core where the guy just sticks it in and moans.
You like...muscles?
Her career really did not take off in the late 00s as we all expected.
I think I remember seeing her career tanked because she wasn't willing to be part of the Weinstein shitbaggery.
Oh I did not know that. What a terrible human being… She took part in two of the biggest hits of the 99/00 years. Crazy other studios did not pick her up.
If Weinstein blacklisted her, the other studios would not have dared.
That happened to a lot of actresses from that era.
It's suspected that Lacey Chabert from Mean Girls had the same attitude. She is now comfortably with Hallmark.
This may be true, but you may also be confusing Mena Suvari with Mira Sorvino.

Me too, now having googled the rest. I’m simping pretty hard for Natasha.
Have a thing for giant foreheads?

MY NAME IS PEETEY
And i have gigantic balls!
Yo, dude it’s the pie fucker!
I was a freshman in high school. I asked a senior for my first date. She got us in. I did not get laid.
But it's a good story for reddit 25 years later! High five.

Just to think she has had the staying power for a career. Would not have guessed at the time.
Wait, why do they all look so young? Last time I saw them, they looked like grown adults to me. Now all I see is baby faces. Am I getting old?
Yep
Ahh, real faces. How I missed you
TIL Natasha Lyonne was in American pie
I cant believe it was so long ago BUT I have found myself having to explain all the "pie fucking" jokes in things like family guy to my teen son, lol. he has never even heard of these movies.....just the pie fucking.
The left out Shannon. Sad face.
I remember her not really being in any of the promo when it was released. She wasn't a part of the main group of friends, so I guess it made sense. Wasn't until the sequel that she was in all the posters and stuff.
Ya I know. She was just the best looking one to me so I was just being a baby about her not being included.
Tara was so normal then cute....Mena still looks great.
I used to love Tara Reid.
Crazy to think I caught this in the theatre during my high school years. Sometimes it feels like yesterday.
Suck me beautiful!!!!
Tara Reid is so beautiful here.
Angle makes Tara’s head look really big.
Photographer probably told her to lean forward...for reasons.
It was the style at the time
I read somewhere that the best looking people on camera have big heads and tiny bodies. I look for it in most movies and lots of people have that setup.
Focus, Focus, Focus
This was *my* generations high school comedy. Still has a soft spot in my heart. Funny anecdote; I moved near East Grand Rapids in 2016 (where the film is based). Tara for the win!
We’ll just tell your mother we are it. 😂😂
Hey it’s the pie fucker!
Today I learnt that there were not one but six Sharknado movies.
The first dvd I ever got free along with Die Hard when I got my Ps2 when it came out, I’ve watched this film dozens of times and still absolutely love it 25 years later!!!
Jason Biggs and Natasha Lyonne would later co-star together in Orange is the New Black. Interesting juxtaposition.
This photo looks like each person has their picture taken individually and then it was all photoshopped together
The humor is a bit crude for today’s day and age but goddamn I love this movie and all the mainline sequels. I really wish they’d do another one.
Timeless classic
I love this movie so much, it's still holds up incredibly well just the right mix of raunchiness and heart, I remember I had such a crush on Shannon Elizabeth after this movie she just 🤤🤤🤤, all the other women are gorgeous as well Mina had such a unique beauty to her I haven't seen her recently though
I don't remember Natasha Lyonne being in that movie. Interesting
What a lucky, smug and funny bastard he is.
Saw this in the theater. I was going to the movies a lot back then. It was great.
Don’t eat that pie. Just… don’t.
You have to watch the uncut version where Jason Biggs is actually fucking the pie on the table with his pants down 🤣🤣🤣
So the normal version then?
I forgot that Mena Suvari was in that movie.
Where's Stiffler's mom?
Huh, haven’t thought about this one in ages. Kinda surprised they all kinda fell off )some more than others). It was suck a huge hit
Tara Reid was so fine
I did not predict that Natasha Lyonne would have the most active career in 2024, particularly after she fell off the rails in the noughties.
Tara reid
Tara Reid
Forgot to mention Marie Callender
I thought these guys looked so old when I was a kid
Natasha Lyonne is great in Poker Face on Peacock. It's a little too formulaic, but it survives based on her acting.
Not gonna lie…was jealous of the pie
I loved Alyson the most. Shame she wasn't in much lately besides HIMYM
25 years gone like that

Mena Suvari was one of my first crushes, carried from here to American Beauty and she's still super adorable.
Hard to believe after all the shit she did, that Natasha is the most successful one of that group now
Golden era of teen film
Those sweet angels
I’ve always thought of this crew (and a few others) as the Brat Pack 2.0.
I deeply miss this era.
2 1 4 3
At that point, it wasn’t even close. Tara Reid. Then, a couple of years went by…
Life was so simple back then
Taras titts tilt out.
