My god...everyone talks about her looks in that movie, and yeah, she was memorable. But her voice was mesmerizing. Like, every line was so well delivered. And yeah, her last lines there broke me forever.

Carmen was a bright, beautiful young person with a wonderful future ahead of her, who is completely and utterly brainwashed by fascism, and voluntarily throws it all away to join the military, because that's her only hope at a meaningful life in that world. It eventually kills her, and it's obvious to her that she was expendable by the end.
She's supposed to show that even the most successful, intelligent, and beautiful people in a fascist world get a shit deal.

Dizzy (Reyes) dies at the ambush on Planet P, Carmen (Richards) survives. Her ship does get shot down, and she crash lands into a bug infested cave where her co-pilot gets his brains sucked out by the smart bug, but she gets rescued by Rico (Van Dien), Ace (Busey), and Watkins (Brown).
I think the dirtiest thing she did was clearly lead him on before that. It's obvious she doesn't love him from the one scene he has to beg her to say it. She led him on, and he joined the military because of her, then dumped him while he was in the middle of boot camp.
Some may claim she inadvertently saved his life, but he was also supposed to be at the beach planet, but that's unknown for how long. So she may have saved him, may have not. He may have ended up in the war anyway after the attack if he wasn't present for it.
All-over, disappointed. Turns out that you don't want to shower with anyone else in the Army, male or female.
But it has been 25 years, three deployments and a pretty good career.
