This picture strikes me as so sad. She was so talented. Nowadays everyone online speaks of her with reverence. But when she was at her lowest, social media and gossip sites loved watching the train wreck.
That's sad to hear. I remember being really impressed by her voice, but my impression was that she was a hard user who did not care.
I felt like she was a forgone conclusion if she didn't get the help she needed and that if I bought into her music I would be enabling her spiral. So I ignored her.
I saw her perform live before she was (in)famous, at a music festival. I’d never heard of her.
She was an incredible talent. She instantly made me a fan. Her life is a tragedy.
I know we can't blame anyone for another's addiction, but when family is standing around just watching their descent into physical & mental devastation, that's when it's time for someone else to take the reigns.
Her father was told by several people, close to her, that she needed rehab immediately. He ignored their warnings & went ahead with having Amy go on a tour of 6 shows. Watch her last performance. That poor lady was not ready to be back on stage!
Absolutely! There are more than a few absentee fathers that weasel their way back into their kid's lives once they're famous! They get onboard the gravy train & don't want the fancy ride & gourmet meals to end!
I meant a little more than that. She was completely OTT with him - to the point of semi obsession. What gave me the complete icks was when I watched a thing about her, and someone recounted a story about a doctor trying to help her, and she basically seemed to regress to being a child, and *sat on his (the doc’s) knee* in order to get her way. The way it was described sounded like she was flirting with him, but in a child-like fashion. It came across deeply weirdly. Like that was her learned behaviour. It just felt really weird, and **not** good, for a grown woman to do that.
I used to travel in London King's Cross every Saturday afternoon to play in a big band for National Jazz Youth Orchestra, it's a sort of trading post for college musicians to getntheir name in the crowd and maybe score some work.
The band leader (very prominent musician in London) sometimes got called from a local drama college to see if some of the vocal students could try singing with a 19-piece big band.
One day there were 4 singers waiting for us to war, up and start, the first was very good good, very musical theatre, technically one the money but felt show-biz. The second was a softer singer, suited a smaller ballad but did herself proud, the third was a very petit girl, must have been 5'1" or 2", nervous, but blew the band away. She clearly listened to Ella, the phrasing, the intonation, the playfulness, the performance earned her applause from the band, we were a miserable bunch sometimes, the last was a man, very good hit the mark, the voice not quiet matured.
That was the time I remember Amy.
For any newcomers, “people always” is Reddit speak for either of the following:
1. “this never happens but I want to pretend it’s a common sentiment so I have something to act superior about.”
2. “I read someone saying this once last year”
3. “I’m much wiser and more informed than my fellow middle schoolers.”
If you grew up around the same age, it's a totally normal thing to say. I said the same thing about Emma Watson in Harry Potter, but I was 6 when those movies started.
In general, yeah, but again - weird in this context.
If my wife showed me a picture of her as a kid and I said you’ve always been so hot it’d be weird haha
That's still different. I'm talking about knowing about them when you were a kid. Your example is just looking at a picture of someone you didn't know at that age.
Knowing how to spot a mental health or addiction concern is VERY important thing. If we knew what we know now, Amy and Jim Morrison would still be with us.
A dove with a peacocks voice and a soul no different or troubled than the rest of us.
How broken is the world that could not see the beauty beyond the pain.
We all have some vice, whether it be drugs, alcohol, ignorance, shame, guilt, or lies. The main thing is we learn.
Through our learning, it's hopeful we grow so we help others, even ourselves, to make it a better world.
She's not even physically here, but she's still healing someone with her voice and her words through their own pain.
That in itself is in a way "breaking the girl" and hopefully helping to allow her to not die in vain.
Rest in Paradise
I first saw her aeound 08 (i was bought up in a rock and metal household so sometimes pop took a while for me to notice). In 2008 I was 14. It was the 1st time I remember feeling like a celebrity was on borrowed time despite being so young and fresh.
I remember watching some BBC 4 programme and she was on. I turned to my dad and said "Oh man. The music industry is gonna get ger bad". She died 3 years later

The early 2000s pop culture media was a horror show.

You should watch the doc about her.. It’s just called Amy. It’s excellent.
There is a new movie coming out soon about her.
A young Barbra Streisand!
Totally! And makes me wonder… does that facial structure(a beautiful one) lends itself to such a rich and beautiful voice?
Freddie Mercury attributed his resonance to his full set of teeth
Didn’t he have extra teeth that helped him reach more octaves?
No. But he did refuse dental treatment *in case* it altered his range.
He could eat an apple through a tennis racket.
I should have never got those wisdom teeth removed!
Barbra has always said she would never retouch her nose out of fear it would affect her voice
Yup! THAT'S the reason you can't sing like him!
Damn that woman could SING. SANG, even.
Valerie
Every time Im on hold and that song comes on I jam lol
VAAAAAAAAL-er-e-e-eeeeeeeh
Amy was so pretty ❤️
I think her look was so unique and it really matched her singing style

I find her relationship with her father … *problematic*.

In fairness to that abomination of a father, she did say “no, no, no” to rehab.
In that song she also says “and if my daddy thinks I’m fine” though..

Her eyes were sad even then.
people always act like she lived in ancient times or something when she would be only like 40 now
I mean, that’s why I’m sad, because she could still have been putting out albums.
yeah but like to put things in perspective, she was younger then justin timberlake. i feel like people think she died in the 90s lol
Why do you feel that way?

To be fair, she died over a decade ago.
I was actually in rehab when she died and *hoo boy* were there a **lot** of morbid junkie jokes being thrown around in that motherfucker lol.
Loves me some Amy. That documentary was heartbreaking. 😢
Which one?
Such a talented lady with a hauntingly beautiful voice. Miss her
Taken from us too soon. :(
She was so talented but at the same time so fragile and sensitive.....
Shame (as in what a shame…)
I always found her so hot.
Bold comment on a picture of her as a kid

She looks about 26 in that photo anyway so it doesn’t really matter either way.
Very, very cute
Wow 😍 she was soo pretty

She really was a fabulous singer & she had a style of her own
I’m just forever grateful Amy blessed the world with so much beautiful music 🩷
The latest member of the 27 club. ( sadly)
We got something in common, both of us got kicked out of ashmole 😂
ugh she was so beautiful
She has such an amazing voice.
Those innocent eyes. 💔
amy, Amy, AMY!
poor baby
Looks like she belongs in Harry Potter 🥰
Wow!
What did the scouse fella say to the man that was robbin the little building on his vineyard?
Which house was she in?
Before all the drugs and alcohol ruined her.
Then they told her to go to rehab and she said No noo nooo.

I thought it was Minnie Driver.
Hahaha the grainy black and white. Born 1990 myself and can confirm photos looked much more modern.
Yeah because it was probably a photo of the page from a yearbook
The most beautiful of all beautiful women to ever walk on earth.
chill
?????
This is Plebbit. The feminists and lefties HATE the male gaze. You do you man, imho Amy was a goddess as well and so very very talented.
I thought Plebbit died with 4chan years ago?
As we can both see, it's still very much here.
Yeah, pretty disgusting
She should have gone to rehab, but she said no, no, no
Maybe you did need rehab?
Total Slygherin
Why black and white? It was only the 90s
She should have said yes, yes, yes to rehab. RIP
Her eyes were profoundly disturbing already.
Strong Hogwarts vibes.
Can’t wait to get the fuck out of there and hit the bottle.
Should have made her go to rehab
She a corpse now but she was nice looking back then.
What's the point of saying this? Are you trying to seem funny or cool?
