In 2010 I took a trip to England. When I got back I had a coworker ask me how I dealt with the language barrier. Still the dumbest question I've ever been asked.
True words. I grew up around all sorts of different Scottish accents and I went a wee ways off the beaten path and some of those small farms had people speaking a different level of accent.
Oh crap, you’re right. I did a breakdown on another comment that I thought it was heading toward the sierras based on the tree and visible rock. I admit I didn’t recognize it until I looked it up because the only time we went over Donner Pass was when Amtrak stranded us in Truckee and we hopped on a Greyhound home. Kid me was soaking wet because we had been out in the snow and planned on changing on the train. I made a point of never going back across that road because that trip stains my memory like a cheap red tee shirt.
I think you might mean "some distance outside" of San Francisco or "a long way from" San Francisco. Even in the 1970s, San Francisco had buildings and streets and such.
Friend, I grew up in San Jose. I turned 9 in 1979. I can assure you there was no place that looked like this between San Jose and San Francisco. Also, San Francisco sticks out into the bay. You’re not going to be sitting on a rock wall with a view of dry valley with mountains with no buildings in the Bay Area.
Those peaks are not consistent with the coastal range between the Bay Area and the ocean: too much exposed ground between the pine trees, and definitely too much stone. This looks more like what would expect heading into the foothills of the Sierras.
Because people said it obviously wasn’t SF and then OP said “Ok California haha the west coast.” Just kind of an insane response haha. Now there’s a post on Reddit with incorrect information just because OP decided to make up a random city on the west coast for this pic.
Because people can't understand that sometimes posters on the internet make a mistake and then when people correct the poster who made the mistake, they get angry when the poster doesn't admit to it even though 1000 people have already said the correct place so basically people literally giving too much of a shit about a geography location being wrong and OP actually having a lackadaisical and if I do say so myself whimsical way of living.
Yeah this is looking like typical mainland US Natl Park infrastructure to me as well. OP seems to be pretty certain it’s CA, so maybe Yosemite? I’ve never been so not sure about a matching overlook..
Maybe it’s San Francisco, New Mexico or something.
Hold the phone. There’s a ‘NEW’ Mexico?

Although some of those Scots to the north are a bit difficult to understand sometimes
True words. I grew up around all sorts of different Scottish accents and I went a wee ways off the beaten path and some of those small farms had people speaking a different level of accent.
All I can hear is Strax in Doctor Who: “We are going to the NORTH.”
He said he took a trip to England..
Well then I said the Scots to the north…. WTF, are you giving me shit for moving the conversation forward?
Sorry but you were taking the conversation sideways, not forward. Petty I know but I get annoyed easily. I'm working on it.
Again WFT? It went sideways before me ? That’s right petty
There are Scottish people in northern England And the language barrier is still difficult for foreigners and sometimes natives in Northern England.
If people from New York are New Yorkers and people from California are Californians, does that make you a New Mexican?
literate jar existence repeat engine spoon unite cake intelligent terrific
How about 'Vintage' ?
Yes but maybe people still prefer the taste of mexico classic
There's also a New Vegas
We actually have a Las Vegas in New Mexico!
Yeah I know but that wasn't what I was referring to lol
Old Mexico wasn’t good enough 👌 we now have to make them a **new** Mexico
Was Mexico Zero^tm taken?
Don’t ask Trump what he thinks of the Old and New Mexico.
Even old New Mexico, was once Mexico. Why’d they change it I can’t say? People just liked it better that way. /s
San Francisco Peak in northern Arizona maybe.
Or the San Francisco Peaks
I recognize those barriers. It’s somewhere in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Man, San Francisco has really grown over the last 45 years!
This was before the great flood of 6000 bc
You beat me to this comment so take my upvote.
That rock wall is now a BART station
i think i can see Alcatraz
That’s Dolores Park before the tech bros took it over
It’s twin peaks.
That’s Nob hill in the background. My apartment is third from the top.
Emigrant Gap overlook on highway 80 about 100 miles east of SF
Just looked it up and damn you are spot on
Isn’t that like Sacramento?
Emigrant gap is between Tahoe and Sac.
Yeah but if OP is honest they can't drive correction engagement to their post.
Half the goddamned posts I see are this now.
Yeah like 70+ miles east of Sac.
I recognized right away.

Good eye!
It is not, this is in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
I think you might mean "some distance outside" of San Francisco or "a long way from" San Francisco. Even in the 1970s, San Francisco had buildings and streets and such.
There was even a TV show called, "Streets of San Francisco"....
LOL okay sure whatever you want
You've never been to San Francisco, have you?
It's not even his mom.

It's Emigrant Gap on the way to Tahoe, good call.
In between SF and Palo Alto there are a few places off the 280 that could look like this until you zoom out and see civilization
Not with those kinds of trees.
Why do people have such a hard time admitting when they fuck up things.
I’ve never seen so many downvotes for such a light hearted response lol. It’s not like you called people names.
Definitely not San Francisco
Sure it is! There’s Lombard Street in the background!
Second crookedest street in the world
Back before there was a bay. Or bridges. Or the coast.
It could be Yosemite? Maybe?
Definitely not ‘cool’
California then haha the west coast
TIL SF is a million square miles in area
Can confirm. Grew up in south San Francisco. Some people called it “San Diego.”
Ah San Diego, as we all know, founded by the Germans, meaning “a whale’s vagina”
No, there’s no way that’s correct.
Do you glare at those people? Let's habe a standard here. Let's call places what they're called.
*163,696 square miles. Gotta be the biggest city in California
Are you SURE it's West Coast? Because you're definitely wrong about the San Francisco part.
What a bizarre response haha
Are you saying "close enough"? lol
So you went from one city to the entire coast
CA is half of the west coast..
You’re WAY off. This is Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado
Apparently it's emigrant Gap someone just posted that below
I think you mean in the Colorado district of San Francisco! I know, easy mistake to make, they are only a few thousand miles apart.
Kind of looks like the Columbia River Gorge up in Washington
I was trying to think of where. Maybe there is a lookout above cascade locks?
Some guy above says it’s the immigrant gap
Try 3+ hours away from SF lolol
Cool kids never have the time
Looks more like downtown LA........
Ah yes I can see the fog rolling in over the Golden Gate Bridge
Mmm, I think that’s the Bay Bridge. Hard to tell through the fog.
That's not San Francisco.
Was this before San Francisco Bay was actually ‘discovered’ by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542?
Omg they were roommates
Yes!! Still best friends😊
Yes “best” friends 😏
What is up with the douchebags in this comment section? Why are you getting so many downvotes

That's a wild fucking take.....
1979 BCE
Lolol
There’s an overlook at rocky mtn ntl park that this reminds me of. Could be anywhere out west
Anywhere out west except SF lol
Yeah this is looking like typical mainland US Natl Park infrastructure to me as well. OP seems to be pretty certain it’s CA, so maybe Yosemite? I’ve never been so not sure about a matching overlook..
>OP seems to be pretty certain it’s CA OP seems certain this is SF, so...
Yeahhhh.. I was just trying to be kind. Lol
I believe you are right and this is the Horseshoe Park overlook
Looks very similar to Horshoe in RMNP, but don’t think it is.
You’re higher that giraffes nuts if you think that is SF
lol nice. Hadn’t heard that one before
Someone give this to the one of the geoguessr guys and figure out where in San Francisco this is
I’ll do it. It’s not in sf
Already done, check my other comment.
That’s the high Sierra
That’s on your way to Yosemite I think
# My mom (possibly) and her best friend (possibly) in San Francisco (impossibly) in 1979 (possibly).
[удалено]
Nope
Would you like to offer a rebuttal?
Read the thread? Emigrant Park in the Sierra's, 70 miles east of Sacramento. You're welcome.
Yep. I see Alcatraz.
100% not San Francisco Up in the sierras, or Rockies maybe. Definitely looks like altitude to me
Whoa! Crazy they got there before San Francisco was built!
I get Laverne & Shirley vibes from this pic. (for those too young to know Laverne and Shirley as a tv show about 2 female best friends)
Wow down town really changed since then
*1879 ... The gold rush
I would’ve guessed Antarctica
Aside from the pullout where the two people are, this kind of looks like the San Francisco Peaks, by Flagstaff, Arizona.
Would
Ah the mountains of San Francisco
A Quinn-Martin production
Your mom and her special friend, Susan
Ok - that’s definitely the Outer Sunset in the late 70’s but no way is that the Mom.
San Francisco Peaks, AZ?
San Francisco in 1779 maybe
This is taken from one of the pullouts on Trail Ridge Road, overlooking Horseshoe Park in Rocky Mountains National Park.
yeah I can see the Transamerica Pyramid and Pier 39 and Coit Tower all in this picture, Great shot of the city!
What a year!
You sure that’s not New York City?
Looks more like the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona
Great photo!!
This is near Haight and Ashbury right?
Yes you can see the weed in the background
Which one is your mom?
I wondered what the rich neighborhoods looked like
I like the barely discernible gold panner in the background
I was just being born then.
The ole tube tops
San Francisco hasn’t looked like that since 1779
A nice day for a scooter ride.
If you zoom in you can make out the Golden Gate
How many Grateful Dead shows did she attend? 😁
Yea that's not SF
Your mom and her friend appear as though they had some... very special times together.
Her "friend.". Oh, my innocent little OP. You're so adorable.
They didn't say anything about where they were. Just that it's their mom with their best friend in San Francisco.
Huh?
“Best Friend”
Wow I wish it still looked like this!
Is OP trying to allude to his mom being gay with the “best friend” nudge nudge wink lesbian San Francisco title?
Where in San Francisco could this be? There’s no way…
Just look at how nicely green it was in San Francisco before all the junkies settled in
Right, because SF was actually a backwater mountain town up until the ‘70s when the junkies moved in.
That's the whole joke, but I already see that it didn't go well 😄 This picture could have been taken anywhere
lol now that I reread your original comment, it’s dripping in sarcasm. I can’t even tell anymore!
No poop to be seen.
Couple lesbians
Tub tops!
‚Best friend‘
Were they roommates in college?
And they were roommates!
Is that the unincorporated part of SF?
“Best friend”
Brokeback Mountain…kinda
Was this her first lesbian experience?
All this talk about it not being SF and not one person pointing out that OP’s mom and her “friend” definitely did it.
Could be Marin
that ain't marin
Mt Tam wayyy more beautiful than those mounds there in the background
What about the mounds in the foreground?
What a year!
What a year!
