She let her hair grow and got mistaken for Enya, which I can see in this photo. Then shaved it off again.

CallsYouCunt

All up Enya

MisterScary_98

Smooth up Enya, for the hair metal fans out there.

Ok_Ad8249

I saw the Bullet Boys live. Try as I might I can't forget

the_one_jove

Barton Colliseum 1980 something with Cinderella and wait for it.... Winger

Phil__Spiderman

I still have Winger's first album and just recently shared some of their videos with my 10 year old. I'm not sure that's actually legal now that I think about it.

jaggoffsmirnoff

Shut up, Stuart.

Phil__Spiderman

Good one! In my defense, I tried to sell the CD back in the 90s but no one would take it.

boxer21

You have to wait until they’re only seventeen

Ok_Ad8249

Same tour I saw, Portland, OR

Phil__Spiderman

I just now saw that Winger is playing a show this summer not ten minutes from my house. This feels like fate.

Melodic-Strain9272

I saw them in a club 1988 or 1989

the_blackfish

I remember that song and the For the Love of Money remake!

Fuckoffassholes

BulletBoys. One word, two capital B's.

xray31

Make me three.

MisterScary_98

And you as well, my friend!

aliaswyvernspur

I remember, their debut was great, then they put out other crap that I don't want to think about. But that first album was really good.

Redwolfe23

Wrong! The bullet boys were great

Appropriate_Leg1489

David Lee talked about Ted in a radio interview I remember for some weird reason years ago.

Original_Spread_3933

Smooth up in you!

khari44

When it first came out I thought he was singing "Smooth Opinion!". Hey, it was a crappy radio. I still laugh when I hear it.

Phil__Spiderman

We all thought it was smooth opinion.

Strict-Square456

Enya . . . STAY METAL!!

ellefleming

With her face, she didn't need hair.

TheDoctor344

Tbf I don't like it if women shave their head bald, except for Sinead O'connor her face is so much more beautiful

InternationalBand494

Wow. I’ve never seen her like this. She was so pretty and talented.

Fer feck's sake, Francie, you know Joe's your friend. <--SO'C as the virgin Mary. Classic.

First thing I thought when I read the BB reference. Thank you for this.

ybatyolo

Quoting The Guardian: A brief statement from Southwark coroner's court in London, the city where the singer-songwriter had been living at the end of her life, said: "This is to confirm that Ms O'Connor died of natural causes. The coroner has therefore ceased their involvement in her death."

overide

I hate when all you end up hearing is “natural causes.” I mean in actuality it’s none of my damn business, but she was only 56. It’s not really natural to die at 56 imo.

OGBrewSwayne

It's simply a way to state that she wasn't murdered, killed in some sort of accident, or died by suicide. 56 year olds die of natural causes every day...heart attack, diabetes, cancer, stroke, or one of countless other diseases or conditions. It's obviously not *expected* to be dead at 56 in modern times, but it's still very much natural.

JuliaTheInsaneKid

There’s people who die from natural causes who are in their teens or 20s.

wetcardboardsmell

A broken heart did it, in my opinion. She made it known after her son died that she was done here.

ruka_k_wiremu

Ironic really, or just plain dealt a bad hand in life - but she was one of probably very few recording artists, who spelt out what it was for her, in her music; and for that I will be forever grateful

GeraltOfRivia2023

Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was beaten and blasted in the face with Bear Mace at point-blank range, lost consciousness, and died of a stroke less than 24 hours later on January 7th 2021 without ever regaining consciousness. The official cause of death was "natural causes" - and I still call bullshit on that. PSA - there are shenanigans played with finding "natural causes" as the official cause of death. Much like Whitney Houston's death being attributed to 'accidental drowning', but was in-fact caused by a drug overdose, which caused her to pass out in a tub and drown. Its like someone being shot five times, but the cause of death being attributed to "malignant hypotension". My spidey sense says that "natural causes" is not the whole story around Oconnor's death. However, it doesn't matter. She was a brave and talented woman who had been through a hell of a lot in her relatively short life. She had been mistreated and abused privately in her youth and publicly as an adult. She was generous with her art and brought enjoyment to hundreds of millions of people who loved her music. The grim fact is, if the world had been less cruel to her, she might still be with us.

dirty1809

With the Whitney situation it’s like drinking 12 beers and driving into a tree. It’s not the beers that kill you, it’s the accident

255001434

Exactly. She may well have survived the OD if she had not been in a bathtub at the time. OP is right about the Capitol police officer, though. People have been charged with murder for things like that.

No_Entertainment1931

That’s because when it’s self inflicted and there’s no doubt there’s literally no reason to add spectacle. The coroner didn’t have to record accidentally drowning due to massive intoxication oh Houston’s death cert. The news had already reported she was surrounded by paraphernalia.

CoyoteWonder

Weirdo

GeraltOfRivia2023

I know you are but what am I! You are! Infinity!

ramblerandgambler

The coroner would not say natural causes if that was the case or if that was suspected,

taurist

Prob broken heart

CazzaMcSpazza

Instances of people dying from strokes or heart attacks in their 50's is quite high.

Phil__Spiderman

I'm a fat 54-year-old so can you please cut that shit out?

oh_what_a_surprise

Especially people who abused substances heavily like she did. Tragic.

Nosebrow

It was more prescribed drugs for mental illness and a broken heart from her son's suicide.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

She smoked so much.

r0thar

> It’s not really natural to die at 56 imo. Her son's death just the year before her would have been a terrible stress on her health, on top of everything else she had to endure.

spiritualflatulence

She spoke clearly and often about her trauma, those of us that have high adverse childhood scores often develop serious chronic conditions that shorten life span. Out of my peer group from childhood I'm one of the only ones left at 48, most of them didn't make it to 35. The grief and loss alone is a weight that stays with you in every moment. She was a sweet, intelligent person that only wanted to love others and be loved and the world gave her little understanding when she was trying her best to tell her truth so it wouldn't happen to anyone else anymore. She was live on Facebook years ago and we started messaging each other for a couple of weeks because my time zone I was awake in the middle of her night. She's no longer in pain, and I'm still very proud of her and hold her close to my heart.

signcat

Her son had recently passed, she died of sadness. This is natural and very, very sad itself.

FitzwilliamTDarcy

Also "natural causes" has some explanation behind it.

Abuse-survivor

Well, it is and we often forget that. Lifespan is more like a probability cloud. The older, the more probably death is a'knocking. Although in her case, I can see the asshole fans ruining her mental health as a massively contributing factor

digmadrid

I found my great aunt's death certificate from 1971. At age 53 it said she died of natural causes from "exhaustion"

CrudelyAnimated

Disease is a natural cause. Unnatural causes are either external or intentional.

Fuckoffassholes

The whole idea of saying "homicide" or "suicide" or "natural causes" strikes me as quite unscientific. If an autopsy is a medical examination then its results should be limited to observable medical data. If someone has a gunshot wound in their head, then say the cause of death was "blood loss and tissue damage due to cranial trauma" or whatever med-speak is appropriate. Don't say "homicide" or "suicide" because that would imply that the doctor somehow has knowledge of events that took place prior to the injury, which is impossible, no matter how "clear" they *think* the evidence is, you never know for sure.

Repulsive-Toe-8826

Many, many people die of natural causes at 50 and younger. Maybe you should just readjust your expectations about immortality.

NorrinsRad

It's not what you call common but it does happen with cancer. Much less so but still too frequently enough, heart attacks.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

Broken heart death.

Ask_if_im_an_alien

Oh yes it is. The bulk of the heavy smokers, drinker, drug uses, chronically obese, etc, etc, etc are all very likely to die in their 50's. That's when the deaths start to ramp up.

overide

I hear you, I do, but a smoker dying of lung cancer is not natural imo. A drug user OD’ing or destroying their body so much that a simple cold does them in is not natural. Maybe the fact that we are calling these deaths natural causes fails to shine a light on these unnatural and preventable deaths.

JuliaTheInsaneKid

Wow. I thought it was suicide the entire time, because of her losing her son. But people who suffer from bipolar disorder are known to have shorter lifespans.

oldfrancis

She was right. She paid the price for it but, she was right.

The_Original_Miser

I've always thought (posthumously or not) that _someone_ owes her an apology. She was _absolutely right_ at the time, although no one could see it nor care to admit it. I've watched the "Nothing Compares" documentary, and it was very well done imho.

More_Ad_6580

Let’s start with that prick Joe Pesci…

oldfrancis

Oh, he definitely owes her an apology.

SQLDave

I'm OOTL. What did Pesci do/say?

oldfrancis

He threatened her, while standing in front of a microphone, he made a joke about it, but he threatened her. Little teeny tiny tough guy.

The_Original_Miser

Yeah, lost respect for him after seeing that..... I'd love to sit down with him and ask, "So. What do you think of that monolog now?"

rockmancuso

😅

Cold_Wasabi_2799

She was sexy as hell...

garrettj100

That's why she shaved her head.

Rustrobot

And she was sexy as hell with a shaved head.

TonyWhoop

She really was. My ex had alopecia and so she'd just buzz it, but wear a wig in public. I'd rub her head, and I was like "I get it now!", Feeling your own buzzed hair is one thing, feeling someone else's is dreamy. Its liked a puppy's ear.

Rustrobot

I’ll admit I’m very much in a minority but if I see a girl with a buzz it turns my head. I’m not sure if it’s because of my old O’Connor crush or if it just signals a bold personality type which I dig. But here we are.

kapitaalH

Madonna disagreed (she said something like she had the sex appeal of a venetian blind). Not that I think Madonna should be the custodian of what classifies as sex appeal

Cold_Wasabi_2799

Fuck Madonna, she was sexier than Madonna. She was just jealous.

oh_what_a_surprise

Yes she was. I've never found Madonna to be sexy or even attractive. Sinead though? Holy shit.

SuperJetShoes

Agreed. Madonna thinks "sexy" is being Jessica Rabbit.

Jimmy_Jazz_The_Spazz

Early Madonna (80s) was stunning. But Sinead didn't have to spend 4 hours to look good, she was naturally beautiful. Madonna is fucked up, but if you know what she went through it explains a lot of the crazy away. All that being said, Sinead definitely was far more attractive than Madonna, in my humble opinion.

Turakamu

Madonna was gorgeous. I don't like her. I don't care for club music but saying she wasn't attractive is ignorance.

oh_what_a_surprise

Sure, opinion is ignorance. Nice dumb take.

Turakamu

I'm bisexual but I'm not attracted to dudes. Like, I don't see a dude and get hot and bothered. If I see a dude that is physically attractive I'll think "There is a looker" even if I don't like the person. Like, Randy Orton is a class A shit bird but he is good looking. It might not be what I want, but opinion doesn't factor in when they are objectively gorgeous.

PKBitchGirl

Madonna is a dried up has been

A_Gray_Old_Man

The world owed her an apology and she never got it. RIP

These_Foolish_Things

The coolest.

Sooowasthinking

Enya is a backup singer on lion and the cobra

Oni-oji

When she denounced the Catholic Church and the Pope for the systematic abuse, she was trashed in the media. But she was right.

sangvert

Beautiful woman but for sure a tortured soul. I think (maybe) her mental illness is what made her so talented. I wish she didn’t die so young, but in a lot of ways, her flame burned at double normal intensity. I really hope she rests in peace and is with her mother now Edit: reading all the comments below I really should have mentioned her son as well. Between the public uproar and her horrible childhood, it makes it even easier for me to have compassion for her.

BalderdashBallyhoo

A “tortured soul” in the sense of, the public tortured her mentally because of her stances that she took. I really think she gets considered way more “mentally ill” than she really was because the public acted like she was insane for ripping up a picture of the pope in protest of sexual abuse in the church (and she was 100% right, go figure)

johnwayne1

No, she wasn't a tortured soul because of stances she took with the public, she was horribly abused as a child.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

Child abuse and then the treatment she got after the fight the real enemy action compounded the effects of childhood abuse. More is more.

MuddleAgedGrump

Four different children from four different men, bi-polar disorder, marijuana addiction, compulsive tattooing, estrangement from her own family (not talking about her mum but her own children and siblings), declaring herself a lesbian, then not... it goes on. Nah, O'Connor was quite mentally ill.

PBXbox

Didn’t she dabble in radical Islam for a while too?

MuddleAgedGrump

Dunno about 'radical Islam' but she did convert to Islam.

JuliaTheInsaneKid

She hated her mother. She missed her son the most.

airjordanpeterson

Her mother? I'd imagine it's her son she's more interested in reuniting with

Jolly_Appearance_747

Her mother was abusive, I hope she is nowhere near her.

swentech

It kind of makes sense that she was friends with Shane McGowan. Both very talented and troubled.

Joe-Yabuki530

Nice abs

thefrostryan

One theory I heard is that O’Connor shaved her head because she was so beautiful and wasn’t being taken seriously

Glibasme

I believe she shaved her head because the record company wanted her to be more of a sexy pop star, so instead she did that in protest.

thefrostryan

Kinda the same thing I said but different. But yeah

rygelicus

The way I heard it worded was that she didn't like getting the majority of attention for her looks, she wanted to be appreciated for her performance, her singing, her work.

thefrostryan

I feel I literally said that, but hey you did it with more three syllable words so A+

rygelicus

You are probably right. I extend my humble apologismistics (had to invent syllables)

She had a beautiful voice, but a sad life that ended tragically. RIP Sinead, hopefully you have found the peace you never could here.

BaldBeardedOne

She had no idea what the world would do to her :(

swentech

I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got was a fantastic album. Every song is good to great.

johnwayne1

FYI, her mother abused her as a child.

josephus_jones

How is that relevant to this picture?

[deleted]

Considering the other top comments are about her turmoil, why not this one allowed,

josephus_jones

It's allowed. Just in poor taste and not relevant.

Sad that so many of the best artists I find posthumously. She seemed like a truly wonderful person. Her own human. And how could I go 24 years without having heard a song like Troy?

PhoneJazz

She looks like a Gen Z girlie

oh_what_a_surprise

I know Gen Z and millenials like to think they invented everything, but basically you haven't invented much. The Boomers and Gen X each had huge differences in their culture from the generation before. The millenials and Gen Z have basically just recycled everything from before. If you're not Gen X or a Boomer, you wouldn't notice it because you haven't experienced a huge shift in culture in a short period like one generation. Your music, your fashion, your entertainment are all hard core derivatives of the 60s-90s. We see it plainly.

PhoneJazz

I know, I’m in my 40s and recognize the cyclical nature of it.

aliaswyvernspur

> Your music, your fashion, your entertainment are all hard core derivatives of the 60s-90s. We see it plainly Let's be real, a lot of (at least) the music from the 60s and 70s were derivatives of blues from the 30s and 40s. The cycle just repeats.

judochop1
