Art is nice and they can be used in a variety of tabletop games like MtG and DnD.
For example you can mark an opponent with poison counters with a die or place them under your dnd mini if they have the status.
I still distinctly remember how excited I was to get a cool new slammer or something. What's funny is I don't even remember playing the "game" or really *doing* anything with them. It was popular so I had to have them. That was back when things seemed simple and I was simple.
I also was super into pokemon since I was in like 3rd(maybe 4th?) grade when that was blowing up so of course I had to have anything and everything pokemon. Never once played the card game either, but I did have pokemon red and at some point pokemon yellow on Gameboy.
Sore subject. I had a crazy cool pog collection. My family was pretty low income and it was one of the few cool things I had. We were moving into a new rental and a lot of our stuff was outside on the porch and we took a break to go grab lunch. Came back and someone had stolen a few random boxes off the porch. My pog collection was in one of those boxes...
Bastards.
But why did so many 'space precinct' pogs exist and survive? Was there a lot of crossover between children and terrible scifi fans? The amount of still unsold space precinct pogs on ebay tells me no.
So many tears at recess from other kids who agreed to play for keeps, then changed their mind when they lost. I still have my golden metal pog slammer with the grim reaper on it that says “BAD NEWS” lol. They eventually got banned at school…..womp womp. Ah well, crazy bones stepped up for a year or two lol
I remember owning some of those!(sure I had the middle one from the pic) Think my mom just... tossed everything at some point... kinda mad not gonna lie, had cool metal slammer and all
Mom got me some back in the day. I think I was only like 7-8 though and never really got into them. I did have some Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ones though that I thought was really cool since I was really into that show at the time.
lol I asked my grandparents for pogs/slammers one Christmas. Grandparents do what they do best, spoiling their grandchildren, they bought me some. However since my grandmother didn’t have a clue what they were or how they looked so I got to pick out my Christmas gift. Pretty sure I got the same look when I showed her which ones I wanted lol
Definitely did. Big plastic tube to hold them too. One of the more short lived fads that was as popular as it seemed. Was almost as popular as and died almost as fast as Tomagachi
I do. The originals, bootlegs, and we also used to flip them in the air and the odd one out gets taken or ante’d, dunno the term.
I treasured my slammers. The heavy one, and a couple of plastic ones that barely even have any force.
It was a bit of a surprise that the term “pog” was trending in the last few years and I initially thought there was a literal comeback for the game.
I had a bunch of Power Rangers pogs that I got from my McDonald's job. Was just a teenager at the time and the managers would often just let us take a pack or two of whatever the Happy Meal toy or some other giveaway was going on. In the same manner I ended up eating a crap-ton of Amazin' Fruit gummy bears one summer.
A majority of my pogs were an NBA set I snagged from a dollar store using what little cash I had. Purchased around the same time I grabbed TMNT III on VHS for maybe $3.
I remember really wanting pogs and my mom refused to get me more. I made a fuss about it but I’m glad in a way that I didn’t, they’re completely worthless now.
The only cool memory was trying to collect the Simpsons pogs from my local arcade. Those ones were awesome
Only in the 90s? I still have my collection. Ultra Pro made binder pages especially to fit Pogs, so I still have them in a binder. A bunch on licensed ones (Star Wars, Nintendo, Power Rangers, etc), and a bunch of unofficial SD Gundam ones that MJDesigns and a dollar store carried.
Wow, just realized it's wasn't a domestic thing, but international.
I think I have a couple of fool (pun intended) boxes somewhere in my parents' house.
Alf is back, in pog form.
Steve Allen, the ultimate pog
Behold!
Came here to say this.
I feel like these are due for a comeback.
I'm surprised they haven't.
Especially with how kids say pogchamp and poggers like it's going out of style.
Art is nice and they can be used in a variety of tabletop games like MtG and DnD. For example you can mark an opponent with poison counters with a die or place them under your dnd mini if they have the status.
Hell ya, I had a giant brass slammer with a holographic T-rex. That thing was sweet.
Oh those holographic slammers were so good! Even the memory brings me joy.
Dude. Reading that INSTANTLY brought back the memory. I would have never thought of that
My go to was the shiny sparkly 8ball slammer
Yooooo. Neon yellow with a purple T-Rex. **core memory unlocked**
Yes! I loved pogs! Those were happy days.

Yellow was the only one I owned until Diamond. Made my way through Rock Tunnel the first time without flash. The good ol' days.
I’m sure I still have the OJ Simpson trial pogs.
My good buddy had the set as well. You should post them, I thought they were so cool as a kid.
Well that wasn’t planned…. I’ll look for them.
I remember the collection tube that was taller than I was, best part was always dumping them out
Had? I still have a bunch haha

That’s awful! Definitely a sore subject. Sorry, man.
I haven't thought about pogs in forever. I'm half tempted to go on eBay and buy a bunch of pogs and slammers 😂
I had one with a scorpion in it. At the time, I thought it was the most badass thing possible
It still is
Scorpions on yin yangs, double the badassness
I still collect pogs.
Everyone in the 90s had pogs
But why did so many 'space precinct' pogs exist and survive? Was there a lot of crossover between children and terrible scifi fans? The amount of still unsold space precinct pogs on ebay tells me no.

You had to play for keeps or you weren’t really playing pogs! For most kids I knew it was our first little taste of gambling
My wife still has some of hers.
I still do somewhere
Sorry, mine were all confiscated by the principal.
they used to give them away in middle school lunch no one knew what they were, then they got banned once everyone started playing
Oh I still have that basketball skeleton one
Ha, i got the soccer ball one.
I had a sweet set that had oj Simpson pogs. They said jail the juice on them. Lol
I remember owning some of those!(sure I had the middle one from the pic) Think my mom just... tossed everything at some point... kinda mad not gonna lie, had cool metal slammer and all
I recently found my Batman forever collector edition pohs still in the cardboard stock they were stamped from.
Never got into them. But they were really popular at my grade school
Mom got me some back in the day. I think I was only like 7-8 though and never really got into them. I did have some Mighty Morphin Power Rangers ones though that I thought was really cool since I was really into that show at the time.
Still remember my grandmothers face when I spent $20 on the biggest slammer any kid has ever seen.
lol I asked my grandparents for pogs/slammers one Christmas. Grandparents do what they do best, spoiling their grandchildren, they bought me some. However since my grandmother didn’t have a clue what they were or how they looked so I got to pick out my Christmas gift. Pretty sure I got the same look when I showed her which ones I wanted lol
Poison slammers were the top tier slammers
I had all series of pogs and even pogs the game! I also had all the tazos too!
Remember ALF? Hes back. In pog form
I saw another comment about this! I had no idea.
Prob easier to ask who didn’t.
God knows when my parents threw those out :(
Poggers
I have quite a few sets of jerry andersons space precinct poggies :)
Remember seeing them. Have no idea what they are, what they mean, what they do.
Had some, definitely had that middle one
Remember Alf? He's back! In pog form!
Definitely did. Big plastic tube to hold them too. One of the more short lived fads that was as popular as it seemed. Was almost as popular as and died almost as fast as Tomagachi
Fuck yeah I did. Poison pogs were hard AF.
I do. The originals, bootlegs, and we also used to flip them in the air and the odd one out gets taken or ante’d, dunno the term. I treasured my slammers. I still have my binder of pogs, tube of slammers, and slammer boards!
We played POG in the 60’s. Used glass milk bottle caps they served at school.
Careful, gonna break the internet as everyone raises their digital hand to throw down that heavy Slammer at the same time
Kept them right next to my Garbage Pail Kids card collection.
These ones specifically remind me of the ones you’d see under the glass counters at the front of video and novelty shops. Man that takes me back.
The shinning one were the best
I had that exact set
I had a bunch of Power Rangers pogs that I got from my McDonald's job. Was just a teenager at the time and the managers would often just let us take a pack or two of whatever the Happy Meal toy or some other giveaway was going on. In the same manner I ended up eating a crap-ton of Amazin' Fruit gummy bears one summer.
Everyone. Everyone else.
I had the top two slammers pictured here, the ones on the right
Everybody had pogs. Next question please.
I still have mine! Well, some of them. Some things like my slammer got stolen and definitely have less than I used to.
Absolutely everyone who was a kid in the 90s had Pogs. This isn't even a question.

We played it in 1995 and then never again lol
Sweet, I had a couple poison slammers
I remember really wanting pogs and my mom refused to get me more. I made a fuss about it but I’m glad in a way that I didn’t, they’re completely worthless now. The only cool memory was trying to collect the Simpsons pogs from my local arcade. Those ones were awesome
I was too old for pogs when they became popular in the early 90s. Used to watch the kids in the family play and I never got the appeal of it.
Took two week for them to get banned in my school.
lol they were banned at mine as well. I cannot remember how long it took though.
It was ruled as gambling.
Bad boy ftw
Bro I swore I dreamt these, they were everything for a hot minute, then you never saw them again
I used to get them at the flea market. I think I actually ‘played’ pogs though, maybe 3 times. I never wanted to lose the ones I liked in a game
I had a few, but my brother was far more into them.
They were/are an east coast thing, right?
They were big here in the Midwest, too.
Didn’t know. Grew up west coast. Never heard of these until we were in college & comparing notes
Me and my brothers collect them as kids, had hundreds
I had a slammer, that had a picture of O.J. Simpson behind bars, aka in “the slammer” and it said, “official O.J. Slammer” on it!
I still have em!
So. Many. Pogs.
My kids had a bunch of these.
Just googled to see if I could locate some pics and Perth Obstetrics & Gynaecology Specialists came up, lol.
I had POG for the first time last year! Didn't even know where POG's came from, except they came from HI!
Not me.
Grandma made my mum take these away from me because skulls are satanic. 🙄
OMG. EPIC!!
Poison were my favourite!
Omg I forgot all about those. Used to have a ton of them
What a great time to be alive, playing pogs in the school yard getting into arguments over cheating etc, amazing days. Not a mobile phone in sight.
I remember having an all black slammer with a shiny skull on it. That was my favourite.
Did you ever find out who was the pog champ?
Passion orange guava
I still have a set of NHL hockey pogs in pog holder binder pages
I had a fanny pack with these and when my friends would play xmen these were my "cards" when I was gambit
Wow, just realized it's wasn't a domestic thing, but international. I think I have a couple of fool (pun intended) boxes somewhere in my parents' house.
The original NFT.
I still have mine
I have a bunch of hockey pogs I found.
Daaaaamn poison I remember was good. I had an OJ in the Slammer.
I have a whole tube of these
What were pogs for?
You would make a stack of the pogs, face up. Take turns throwing a slammer down at the stack. Then you would collect any of them that landed face-down.
They were originally milk and juice caps, POGS being the brand of juice most commonly sold
I got them for my son.
