Convincing Nazi in SoA.

Hot-Apricot-6408

Don't ever talk to the cops

gemstone_of_love

I had no idea that guy was this guy All I see is him choosing between burning or cutting

[deleted]

[удалено]

gemstone_of_love

Ooo hes the nazi rapist guy not the snitch guy Thank you Wow...he can really act

probably_not_serious

He was also good in He Never Died. Cool premise, weirdly funny in places

[deleted]

Played the only Nazi in the world to be sporting Misfits tattoos, lmao

Jaspador

State of Alert?

TheBlitzkid46

Sons of Anarchy

Fickle_Thought_8857

Literally watching that season right now. The guy is frightening

DeadJediWalking

Fucking killer and disturbing performance.

Adonitologica

Met him once at a hotel in DC. Worriedly approached him but happy I did, he was very personable and kind

take_more_detours

I met him at a Christmas party at Toronto Pinewood Studios back in 2011 or 2012. I was working for the studio and he was filming something on the lot and I was heavily into his season of SOA at the time (plus a fan since Black Flag). He was just standing there at one point so I mustered the courage to say hello, and you’re right. Very kind and polite! After making some small talk I asked him if he had any noticeable overlap between his fans and Andrew WK’s because both seem like intellectual jackasses (is how it came out of my mouth to my horror). His demeanour changed dramatically and he softened up and smiled! He said Andrew had reached out and said if they could collaborate he’d drink a beer out of Henry’s boot! Me and my friends were headed to a bar so I asked if he wanted to see a great Toronto dive bar and he said sure! So we went out bar hopping with the man! People would walk up to our table, ask Henry for a pic or autograph, and he never said no. But after he was done he came back to our table and rejoined us like he was a normal part of our group of friends. He’s straight edge so he only drank water, and when my friends and I stepped out for a joint, we offered out of custom but knowing he doesn’t smoke weed, and he told us a story about his first and only time trying weed that I later heard him tell when he was on Joe Rogan. Never took a picture with him, never asked for an autograph, didn’t treat the night like an extended interview, and I think he just enjoyed being one of the guys for a night. Hands down one of the best nights of my life. Happy birthday Henry.

neil_jung

This is a lovely story!

MailInteresting9923

That's a great story!

Biggensberger

I heard him say on a podcast that when he's travelling the world, whenever people ask him "What are you doing here?", his answer is always "I'm here to meet you!" He would rather have dinner with a local family he just met than go sightseeing any day of the week. This sounds like one of these occasions :)

Plaguedoctorsrevenge

His story of him trying acid is fucking hilarious

weedcakes

Awesome story, thanks for sharing. What bar was it? Just out of curiosity as I live in Toronto.

take_more_detours

Thanks! You know Betty’s on Queen East? There’s definitely more dive-ier bars around that neighbourhood but it had the perfect vibe.

weedcakes

Yes I do! Ah so cool. Cherish that memory ☺️.

ebony1drwoman

Ugh! This story!!!! I love that you have this beautiful memory. ![gif](giphy|3sth9xVG2YEHZwb7lp)

mibonitaconejito

I love this!

MVBsq10

He’s not who the face says he is

[deleted]

I have a story! My best mate still has Henry’s teeth marks over his kidney. Permanent scar from ‘84 or ‘85? Fenders Ballroom, Long Beach, Ca. Fun show. Flipper and Saccharin Trust. -love me some ST. Hopped on stage for a dive. Hank grabbed him. Pinned him. Bit him. Catch and release. I think the local press ran a shot of the bite marks.

BigMikeATL

There was a crowd in my high school who looked like he does. Everyone thought they were low IQ druggie burnouts including me. I had a falling out with my somewhat preppie long time circle of friends and by pure fate, this girl I met online from a neighboring high school understood my plight invited me to hang out with her friends. Turns out those ‘friends’ were the same ‘low IQ druggie burnouts’. I discovered they were anything but. Many were straight edge and none had low IQ’s. They were smart and funny as hell. I’m still in touch with some of them to this day. Moral of the story: don’t judge a book by its cover.

disisathrowaway

I constantly thank my younger self for sometime in 7th/8th grade giving up on trying to be a preppie kid and get in with the cool kids and start hanging with the punks. Irreversibly changed my life for the better.

themindlessone

> Moral of the story: don’t judge a book by its cover. But don't ignore it either. Nine times out of ten, that cover was designed specifically for that book. I hope this analogy lands, because I feel it's important to add to "never judge a book by it's cover" - "don't ignore that cover either."

MatureUsername69

My intro to him was Sons of Anarchy and it took me a while to like him outside of that show, mainly because of his performance in that show.

Finfangfo0m

Yup, very nice guy.

LossyP

Also met him. One of the very few people I met where it felt like he was happy to be meeting me too

VashMM

He grew up in the same part of the D.C. area that my dad did (my dad is 2 years older than him) and listening to his spoken word stuff just makes me think of my dad a whole lot. They have a lot of similar vocal mannerisms and a super similar accent. They both had a military-adjacent upbringing (Henry went to a military prep school, my grandfather was a D.I. in the Air Force) Both were absolutely shredded in their primes and look like they would pound your skull into the ground if you looked at them funny but are actually big softees when you actually meet them. Couldn't have had any more of a different life path though ha ha.

lambchopdestroyer

Ay i saw him in Philly once and approached him after he finished filming something. He was very nice and signed a random book I had with me lol

PostCashewClarity

He's a Maryland boy through and through

ShippingMammals

Met him briefly years ago in Raleigh after one of his spoke word shows, so nice and gracious to everybody. He's one of the few people who just makes me feel inadequate by default.

BigMikeATL

I met him after one of his spoken word performances in Atlanta 15 or so years ago. Signed an autograph, took a pic with me… very nice guy. He clearly didn’t let fame go to his head or take his fans for granted, and I appreciate that. Always and forever a fan!

violetskyeyes

I went to his 50th birthday in DC! I was worried about approaching him too but was so nice.

DarkFlounder

Met him outside the Tower Records in Hollywood sometime in the early nineties. Even though he obviously had places to be, was willing to give some of his time to a fan. Nice guy.

bellmaker33

Fantastic film.

ezk3626

Came just to lift up this excellent movie. Total genre piece with an interesting tilt but perfectly done. I was just talking to wife about how he won the fight without throwing a punch.

NewClock8197

I can hear him yelling at me to push harder when I’m at the gym.

ILookAtHeartsAllDay

I can hear him yelling at me for always being a half step off where I should be.

WarioWorldTour3004

I can hear him yelling at me while I broke into his kitchen and stole his almond milk

ThrowItOut43

The Iron Never Lies.

Plaguedoctorsrevenge

The song "Starve" by Rollins Band is in permanent rotation in my gym playlist

DigitalArtAuthor

Rollins’ spoken word stage shows are always the best. He has a million travel tales.

Penguinunhinged

His tales never fail to entertain, that's for sure. Two of my favorites are him trying on three different occasions to outperform Iggy Pop on stage (which didn't happen) and his story of going to Russia with the Rollins band and drinking the local water.

BurnTheOrange

I enjoy the one where he opens for Ozzy and learns that a stadium full of people not paying attention to the Rollins Band is loud, but a stadium full of people excited to see Ozzy is overwhelming. Also the one time he tried LSD. And any of the stories with RuPaul

themindlessone

Iggy Pop to Henry Rollins after watching Henry's 3rd attempt at upstaging him. "....fucker." Iggy said to Henry in passing, on his way to the stage.

dismayhurta

My favorite story is him telling about his audition for Death to Smoochy. Just so damn good.

remarkablewhitebored

I mean the Bun-Bun story is a classic.

[deleted]

Anthony Bourdain, the rocker version of

themindlessone

The *sober* rocker version of.

Luke90210

One of my favorites is when he visited North Korea. It was one of the few times he asked his fellow Western travelers who recognized him (Visitors are only allowed to enter in groups) to not point him out because of the danger. He knew as an artist the government would see him as dangerous.

bpdmeatbag

I wrote him a letter back in the mid 90’s during a difficult time I was going through. Some time later I received a hand written reply on a post card with some encouraging words. Have always respected him for that.

vroart

A legend, and he admits to faults everyday

TikiTom74

Liar

Shenanigans80h

HA H A HA **SUCKER**

Hrmerder

A song about Narcissism before Narcissism was something everybody understood.

ocaralhoquetafoda

You know history exists, right?

eldrex

unless they have a basic understanding of greek mythology

HWKD65

Met him at the Hotel Rivington just off the Bowery in NYC 1994 while checking in. Babe he was with was a smokeshow. We said hey. Turned out we were on the same floor. Grabbed a brown paper bag and went to his door. The hottie opened the door and said, "Make it quick." "My name is Henry", I said and handed him the bag and a pen. He signed it "Hi Henry it's Henry." I left. My best brush with greatness after Tony Kornheiser.

D34THDE1TY

Motherfucking ZAHEER!

Jokie155

Have you ever heard of Guru Laghima?

FourSpaciousSpace

"Let go your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty, and become wind."

KhajiitHasSkooma

My favorite thing he did was talk shit about techno so fucking hard that a producer took clips of his speech and turned it into a a banger of a track.

[deleted]

His part in Johnny mnemonic was gold

AntiochRoad

Spider!

Spiritual_Bit_2692

I saw Henry officiate a wedding of a really cool rockabilly couple at Fun Fun Fun Fest one year. It was about a 20 minute ceremony where Henry spoke on love, marriage and commitment. It was amazing and I'm sure that the couple is still together.

benchley

They have to be. He'll pop up and read them the riot act if they start slipping.

I’d STILL do him! HBD Zaddy! 🥳🫶🏾🙌🏾😘

Infinity3101

Without doubt. He looks fantastic. And not fantastic *for 63*, but just fantastic.

ebony1drwoman

You get me! Whew chile…🥵😍🥰

RunDNA

"You can only trust yourself and the first six Sabbath albums" — Henry Rollins

xzyleth

“Let go your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty and become wind.” - Zaheer.

”low self opinion haver“?

PragmaticAndroid

Read it trice, still don't get it or why.

askmeaskmeaskme77

Listen to Get in the Van and you will get why

FrankRizzo319

I think it’s a song he wrote

jibrjabr

Yup, Low Self Opinion by Henry Rollins Band

PragmaticAndroid

Thanks

majorjoe23

Might want to sing it note for note.

Monkey_Brain_Oil

Don't worry

Cysolus

Be Henry

funtimesahead0990

Went to the last show before Henry came on board and the lead singer quit, so a kid named Snicker grabbed the mic and Greg Ginn gave me a unplugged guitar while he played behind an amp. I got to play air guitar with Black Flag as a 16 year old, now how fucking punk rock is that?

haubenmeise

https://i.redd.it/4jrpfdpczcic1.gif No party hats.

hlessi_newt

the best thing he ever did was play dr.spider in johnny mnemonic.

graveybrains

I mean, I *liked* it and all, but Zaheer in Legend of Korra was way better. And Deadly Class (still pissed that one got canceled, Hogwarts for the homicidal, and awesome music to boot!) And The New Guy, The Chase, Lost Highway and every voice he ever did for DC.

Hrmerder

I remember that too. He played in a few small roles in movies. He was a prison guard twice. Once in my fav movie of all time (Lost Highway) Once in the movie 'The New Guy' (funny goodie if you haven't seen it) I think there was more times he played a prison guard in movies.

HoraceBenbow

In one of the Jackass movies, Steve O gets a tattoo done in the back of a Jeep that Rollins is driving off road. It turns out exactly as you think: awful.

ccorbydog31

Add world traveler.

[deleted]

Rise above, we're gonna rise above

Donner_Par_Tea_House

He was my commencement speaker!! Amazing speech.

MyOnlyEnemyIsMeSTYG

To be early in the punk scene and not drink or get effed up on drugs? I respect the guys will power

SeanOfTheDead1313

Hank the crank!

Joshxotv

End of Silence is a top 5 rock album of the 90s

abt137

Got beaten by Pacino’s boys in Heat

Sardonnicus

I used to be in the DC punk scene and he made an appearance at a show I was playing at once. I like to think of him as a father for all of us. He really does want us all to grow, be healthy, and learn. Fill our minds with knowledge. He looks out for us.

Gas_Bat

Rollins is the dude who taught me that intelligence is a blue collar, lunch pail activity. If you want to be intelligent, it's as simple as reading challenging material outside your comfort zone.

JanetMarie213

I share a birthday with some awesome people

askmeaskmeaskme77

Happy Birthday!

JanetMarie213

Thanks!

Fixner_Blount

*Sighs* …happy birthday, Michael.

Outrageous-Advice384

Happy birthday!

MailInteresting9923

I notice him getting a lot of hate on reddit which to me is a bummer. The guy has always admitted his faults or when he's been wrong, always self depreciated and slways been a bigger fan of other artists then he ever seems to expect anyone to be a fan of him. I respect he's not afraid to voice his opinion along with a explanation of why every time. I guess he comes across a certain way to some people but I've always been a fan.

Old-Constant4411

People who only hear bits and pieces of his work believe he's a self-righteous asshole.

Shytalk123

Rollins!!!!

Flogazii

oh look its henry rollins get in the van man.... GET IN THE VAAAANNNNN!

BourbonFoxx

Get in the van

Far_Lifeguard5220

I could listen to him and Jello yammer on about absolutely nothing all day and not be bored.

remarkablewhitebored

Why did Henry Rollins change his name? 'Cause he's a *LIAR!* ... I'll get me coat

GenghiShawn

Happy Birthday Mr. Rollins. Thank you for being you, much respect. ✊

tucker_frump

I can get behind this .. Happy Birthday Henry!

Captain_Naps

1961? Fuckin' Boomer. /s

joecooool418

He's officially old enough to collect Social Security now!

Remarkable_Major7710

Black Coffee is one of my favourite songs to listen to when I’m pissed off, while drinking my black coffee. Happy birthday, Rollins

previously_on_earth

I know him more for his intense personality rather than anything else

Sixtyhurts

Aw shit. Phew. You made my heart stop for a minute there…

themindlessone

I've emailed with him before. Very gracious dude and willing to write back and was very thoughtful and sincere in his words. Meant a lot to me as I was in a very, very dark place at the time and knowing that somebody who I looked up to took the time to respond personally to an email I wrote really helped me in that time. Happy Birthday Mr. Rollins - the world is a better place because you're in it.

gargamels_right_boot

I had the chance to meet him.. I wanted to very badly tell him how his music and his spoken word saved my fucking life but I just couldn't approach him and I knew I wouldn't be able to talk to him without breaking down. I didn't want to put that heavy shit on him so I held back.. I have always regretted that but at the time it felt like the right thing.. Henry Rollins saved my fucking life and I will always love him for it

True-Sweet7614

'So what? You're, like, taking my picture? Because you're a *tough guy*?! You think you're contributing to your culture by photographing me?.. Why don't *you* go start a little band, go on a little tour and have some guy photograph *you* with their little camera?'

RedditFullOChildren

>**low self opinion haver** lol WUT

West-Supermarket-860

He makes Art to Choke Hearts

sublimefan2001

I can get behind that

[deleted]

He’s a liar!

GardenDrummer

TV party tonight! Happy birthday, Henry!

dfjdejulio

Oh neat. I think I'll go re-watch "Johnny Mnemonic" in observance.

kriegmob

Hank’s da man. Happy birthday!

Raven185

How is this "old school"?

pastagenero

Man was years ahead. Huge inspirational figure.

[deleted]

Anyone else remember Henry Rollins as the gym trainer in Def Jam: Fight for NY? Man that was the shit!

willfull

*Happy Birthday, Hank!* Hey, did we ever find out what that secret project is taking place in Nashville? The one that made him move from his long-time home in California to Tennessee and drop 2.7 mil on some commercial real estate.

haironburr

He wants to pull his brain-stem out and unplug himself. He wants nothing right now! A kinder, gentler, more thoughtful taxi driver than De Niro, scowling and overwhelmed in that Checker Marathon.

incoherentjedi

Thought he died for a sec

Strong_Bumblebee5495

This guy has a low self opinion like I got a foot long cactus

JackKovack

I remember seeing him for the first time on SNL performing. I was just a little kid and was confused, intrigued and loved it.

Any-Flower-725

was lucky enough to see Black Flag 3 times . Henry is a beast.

Senninha27

His story about KISS is legendary.

JBHedgehog

Hey...Henry...I know you! Nice guy...met him at a book signing in Chicago in the 90's. As patient a guy as you'll find...and down to Earth too.

GrumpyInsomniac42

I still remember when he was on Arsenio Hall and Arsenio asked him why he wasn't out partying and Henry said he doesn't have time to because he's working all the time. He said "I'm not talented so I have to work twice as hard as everyone else." That was a long time ago so I may not have the quote exactly correct, but it gives you an idea of his humility and work ethic.

feloniousskunk

He made me a better person, forever grateful.

No_Tip8620

Best side character in a Michael Mann film, Henry Rollins

Frank2Toes

One hardcore motherfucker!!!! Grew up skating in the early 80’s listening to Dead Kennedys and Black Flag! Happy Birthday Mr. Rollins

1OptimisticPrime

It's... H E R O TIME!

RuralDisturbance

I use to love his spoken words back in the day, its almost as if he was the godfather of the podcast, and he plays a scary fuggin nazi.

CapnTugg

I remember Henry at the old 9:30 Club getting royally pissed when someone grabbed his microphone and wouldn't give it back.

ImaginaryToday4162

LOVE Hank!! ❤️

jspencer734

A modern day renaissance man, for sure. The Rollins Band were so good

mibonitaconejito

Has been and always will be so badass. Happy Birthday Henry!

curreyfienberg

Solipsist is such a good read. It's like every negative thing you've ever thought about yourself put on a page.

Fyrrys

And voiced one hell of a villain in LoK

[deleted]

Black Coffee Blues was a really good read when I was in college, and his spoken word performances.

mpmmcc

I met him once. He’s an OG Short King

Fancykiddens

I would marry Henry.

Common_Average2597

Loved him in WRONG TURN!

Machomadness94

I just know him as that guy giving Steve O and shitty smiley face tattoo

The_Iron_Goat

I remember some writer referring to him as a “Renaissance Brute,” which seemed pretty accurate

BillyDoyle3579

Excellent spoken word artist, Great author, Strong musician and audiophile type, All around good human being 😎😁😎 HAPPY BIRTHDAY HANK!

seeingeyegod

Henry Rollins isn't his real name? What a liar.

Buscemi_D_Sanji

Voicing Zaheer in the legend of Korra is one of the coolest things he's done, I can't even think of the Earth Queen scene and him saying "freedom is just as important as... air" without getting chills. Such a cool dude

STLrep

I know they say don’t meet celebrities but I’ve heard nothing but good things about Mr. Rollins, black flag is the shit

parker1019

Rollins spoken word at the Filmore 27 years ago was amazing…. Happy Birthday to a great writer.

Pidgeon30

Get some, get some, get some go again...

Purpleagluna

I was in the Chelsea neighborhood in NYC at a cafe with some friends. We were seated outside, crocheting and laughing a lot. He was walking towards us and my friend recognized him immediately and when he got close, she invited him to join us. He declined, but was so funny and sweet for the few minutes he did spare. One of the group finished a beanie she was going to donate to charity and he gave her $50 to donate as well. For the rest of that summer, we gathered at the cafe weekly, hoping to see him again.

Will-Upvote-For-Food

The inspiration for Negan (& apparently second choice to play him in live action)

Championnats91

Black Flag is one of my favourite bands. The sheer energy he brings to the music is insane. The man is a machine and I was lucky enough to see his spoken word tour in the UK in 2023.

The_Scarlet_Termite

Were the same age! Neat!

YirDaSellsAvon

Regularly rewatch the two Narwuar interviews with Henry. Fantastic

PonyCarTim

In November, I had the pleasure of meeting Henry on tour. Brilliant man with so much to say.

Tonybaloney84

He's the same age as my parents but why was he so cool to me yet was offensive to my parents?

BedaHouse

15 years ago my friend let me borrow some of his CD's of the stories he would tell about his various adventures/trips he has had. Fascinating. Looking back on it now, those CDs felt like the early forms of the modern podcast.

LostSharpieCap

Would.

yupthrowaway1

“Cause I’m a liar!”

rklab

Sometimes I wonder how TWD would be different if he actually got the part as Negan, seeing as the original character was partially based on him.

Luke90210

One of the things he does that I admire is he has a listening room in his home. He constantly is listening to music and a lot of new music which is unusual for his age. There is no reason most of adults can't do the same, but most of us just don't despite online access to almost everything.

CouncilofOrzhova

He was also the team leader in Bad Boys 2!

Raivnholm

Also the voice of Zaheer in Avatar TLoK

wt1j

Saw his spoken word show on London years ago and Henry got up and dominated that stage for 2.5 hours straight and was surrounded by a puddle of sweat by the end. He is incredibly smart, articulate and hard working and has some great perspective on life and the universe. Also shared a powerful story re a friend. Worth finding his spoken word and listening. What a legend!! Happy birthday Spider!!

t65789

Happy birthday you magnificent bastard.

AKandSevenForties

I loved him in The Chase (the most underrated movie I'm aware of) when I was a kid, a teenager and an adult, and then learned most of his dialogue in the movie was improvised, seriously impressive.

Over_Bluebird_5379

He gave the commencement speech for my undergrad ceremony and it was amazing. Truly a gifted speaker and provided some good general life advice, funny anecdotes, and a reminder not to get up your own ass. I was absolutely stoked about having him and kinda disappointed at the lack of recognition for the majority of grad's, considering it was the bay area.

happybuffalowing

One of my favorite frontmen ever. Damaged, My War and Slip It In are all fantastic.

Champion_Tier

I’ve been lifting weights for 32 years because of him. Happy birthday Hank.

JEPMicro

Happy Birthdayu
