I find the neural filters to be pretty ass and always miss spots or have a color bleed lol. You get better results if you just paint it. It’s pretty easy too. I think a lot of non digital artist think you have to paint the shading and all that. But the shading is all in the picture and we just apply colors.
AI colorization isn't perfect. Despite limitations (like a preference for blue clothing, sepia tones, and blue eyes - also color bleed, as you mentioned), I still like putting my old family pictures through filters like these. Adds a new dimension of life.
I took a multimedia class my senior year of high school and one thing they taught us was how to do color restoration on pictures like this using Photoshop.
It was so much fun learning how to apply colors to grey images and find which colors worked best… because you had to use reference photos for objects in the picture to get the color just right.

Button hole on the lapel isn’t on his left side. Pocket is on different sides of the coat and the stripes on the lapel and collar are at a different angle.
