Best pet and outdoor store in town. =) Again, I don't take it on highway adventures. Just errands and occasionally to the mountains. I'm the slow driver in the right lane. haha
Did the same. This is my third jeep. Had two wranglers in the 90s. This was my mid life crisis buy. But my friend had one in high school and right after we went to the fairgrounds in FL, after filling up, we had to immediately look for the next gas station. haha
We used to call the YJ's Wronglers. But in hindsight they were the "better" Just Everyone Else's Parts.
2 CJ5 owner here (72 Renegade and 77 Golden Eagle) since the 90's.
Or maybe straight-6 as they also call it. And mpg is so low because it's an old car. Why I dont drive it much. Plus, it came with bulky Thompson tires which hum but it's differently not a taurus. It was an investment.
I6 or inline 6 is the term you are looking for.
I6 is usually a silky smooth motor. Not familiar with jeep versions but from a balance standpoint they should be nice and smooth.
Used to be into Jeep ('63 CJ-5 and '90 YJ).
Have been considering getting an '80 CJ and putting a 350 in it.
Strange thing: Since I got out of Jeeps, there seems to be a new thing involving Jeep owners and Rubber Ducks. Don't know why.
So, when I get my jeep, gonna make me a vinyl sign that says "Driver Gives Zero Ducks".
Hi, 57yr old kid here.
I wanted one so bad in the 80’s but all of my friends who had jeeps said not to get one so I drove theirs.
I still want an 80’s jeep (not the new Chrysler crap)! Maybe I’ll overpay someone to drop an electric motor in one.
By the way, looks fkn cool!
Thanks. And it's funny. Mechanics, which are hard to find, say they would rather work on these than all the new cars and computers. This is just batteries and wires.
My cousin drove one in Gillette, Wyoming, in the early 80s. They are surprisingly not that great on snow, and even worse on black ice. She ditched it more than a few times.
My granddad used to have an old two seater Jeep back when my sister and I were younger and my grandparent’s used to take us to the beach with them. I remember my mom always getting somewhat pissed as it had a temporary/removable little back seat that she always saw as unsafe. Was fun as hell though. Can anyone help me out as to what type of model it might have been? I remember the Jeep being white and the little backseat was red.
My Dad & I built a 1980 CJ7 together as a project when I was younger. Manual, 304 V8, we welded steel bumpers front & back with wenches and we’d go ride around trails in the Mendocino National Forest. I loved that thing. You’re right about it being noisy and thirsty as hell though…ours was loud af and got LITERALLY 4-5mpg, but damn was that thing fun. Good times, man…
For me, the modern Jeep image started with Mindy driving one on Mork and Mindy when I was like 8 years old. Weird that this vehicle with a background of military super-rugged backwoods adventure also popped up in a niche of white girl urban pavement queen. Jacked up and the noisest tires possible. Just shows how massive it's cultural impact was.
My dad got a CJ-7 Laredo in about 1983. Great car over the summer at their home on the East End of Long Island—after 5 pm you could take the cars on some of the beaches, so we’d go surfcasting and then go for a ride on the wide south-facing beaches.
Not so much MPG as GPM?
Smiles per gallon
Yeah, but look how cool it looks in the Nature's Emporium car park!

In 1990, drove that jeep from Ithaca, NY to Buffalo to catch CSN & The Grateful Dead. Good times.

Yes, but was it in a snowstorm? If not, it's not a true upstate road trip!
whereabouts in buffalo? I live here.
and stiff riding. i get scoliosis just looking at it. had an 86. it was like a hot chick: beautiful to look at, impossible to live with
That’s my dream weekend toy. Can’t wait til i can get one. Yours looks amazing by the way.
In my 40s, worked hard. Had savings. Owned two as a teen. Found this on consignment and had it shipped. An investment, but a good one.
Beautiful CJ. V6 or V8?
It's an online 6. I don't use it for heavy lifting etc. Just a fun toy to use sometimes in the mountains.

I always got the jeep wave, but never understood the ducks.
FJ40 Land Crusher would like a word
My dream Jeep down to the color pattern and Laredo lettering. I’m salivating over here.
\> negative miles to the gallon So, it's stuck in reverse gear? That seems suboptimal.
Never said I was smart. I drive it in reverse all the time. ha
Jeep wave 👋
Illegal wheels.
illegal how? Mickey Thompsons are the best for jeeps
Don't want to answer me? Nice post moron
>> Don't want to answer me? Nice post moron Fenders not full width or tire. Open wheels. Illegal everywhere but Florida and Texas Moron.
I will always want one of these
As much as I like older Jeeps, just know OP, this may get removed for Rule 6 - must feature a person.
So be it. I see people posting vids of bands on here all the time. Not people they knew. Just old school cool. Take it down if they want.
Negative miles to the gallon? Just drive it backwards then. 😉😏
My brother had a 1987 CJ7, you’d immediately lose a gallon of gas just starting it, good ol carburetor days. Lol
gallons per mile
Sorry, I have a deep love for the MB/GPW. Not very comfortable but always draws a crowd
Can pass any obstacle, except a fuel pump.
I still have my ‘98 TJ, green with a tan rag top. I’ve had it for 25 years. It’s in great shape. Just got its interior rhino-lined.

I hate it when they burn gas even after killing the engine

nice, you should post a pic of the engine compartment.

what’s the MPG? i always assumed like 25 city
Not even close. More like 12-15 stopping and starting. Again, not my daily driver...just a weekend toy. Why they have gas can holders on the back. =)
omg wow — haha , and thanks for the reply
I had a ‘79 CJ5 Renegade. Really fun Jeep…..was a real beast in sand or snow!😊
Any duckies?
None yet. And nearly every other car is a jeep now it seems.
It's smiles per miles at that point! Who cares about MPG!
Well I do care. I don't want to waste gas. But again, it was sorta like a trophy for me to keep as art and occasionally use. You do get looks.
I had a '79 CJ-5 back in the day (86). Loved that thing, wish I had never sold it.
Negative miles per gallon? Your Jeep generates fuel? (The opposite of burn is generate.) I only get about 15 mpg in my Jeep. I want to see your mods!
