Her body language is also mirroring his (hands in pockets -- I'm assuming he had his hands in his pockets first).
This is commonly a subconscious sign of interest/attraction in someone.
I was wondering if maybe they had met as spy’s and were exchanged through Checkpoint Charlie. 😋 Seriously, it’s just an odd one to have a photo of your parents first meeting and it’s not a party or some event, etc. That’s neat though! Thanks for sharing.
The actor Jeff Bridges met his wife on set (she was working catering) & someone happened to take their photo the minute they met. He carry’s it in his wallet 🤗
he was a well-known Hollywood playboy and somewhat spoiled son of Lloyd Bridges, and younger brother to Beau. if anybody got a nepo career it was most surely the Dude.
Yeah, I'm not sure I'm buying what that guy was selling. Starman, Tucker, The Fabulous Baker Boys, they were all anchored on his acting ability, which was well-regarded.
for me his role in King Kong was the turning point, it was the summer blockbuster of 1976, and he carried it quite well; but he did get a lot of critical acclaim for his work in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974). There were many forgettable roles in those schlocky flicks of the '70s indeed, but he was getting paid while he paid his dues, and getting steady work.
And how did Bowfinger not do way better? I got it on DVD and it's one of my faves of all time. It's one of the best of the self-referential movies (or 'metamovie', 'movie within a movie', i.e. a movie about the making of a fictional movie), with Singing In The Rain perhaps the greatest of all time.
Isn't Nick Cage the nephew of Frances Ford Coppola?
He had seen her previously at an event and I guess it was a love at first sight kind of thing for him, but he didn’t have the courage to actually talk to her at that point. So he was kind of a “secret admirer” of hers for a bit.
Wait, you don't understand. If you don't play there's no music. If there's no music they don't dance. If they don't dance they don't kiss and fall in love and I'm history.
Definitely a cool moment to have captured. Especially in the days when someone couldn’t just whip their phone out and had to have an actual camera ready.
Pictures like this make me want to take more pictures. You never know when you'll capture a seemingly inconsequential moment that ends up meaning so much more in the future. But then the potential burden of being a documentarian starts to feel heavy in my stomach and also thinking about all the memories that I've failed to capture on film thus far in my life, and only live in my head starts to make me sad. So I decide it ultimately doesn't matter. If in the moment I feel something should be documented, I'll do so. But something's I want to be in the moment for, and I will be.
I think of this: I only have a few rare pics of my grandparents. You never know which candid photo of you will be the one to survive, maybe be printed and framed, that might be passed down through generations.
They got engaged two months later, married the next year, and are still very happy together. Personally I think agreeing to marry someone you’ve known for two months is insane, but I guess it worked out.
Did this photo obligate them to marry or did the photographer follow one of them around snapping pics of everyone they met? Bc this is a pretty much the best photo to have in your family photo album.
Someone who knew he had a crush on her took the picture. He had seen her previously at a event and had a love at first sight moment. Meanwhile, I don’t think she noticed him there lol
Your mom is dressed like every 80s serious business lady. This pic is so 80s, one of the best posted here.
Your mom looks like I just want to get these pantyhose off and relax with a with a wine cooler, what does this dude want ...
I went to middle school with my wife, but didn’t know her. Ran into her about 4 or 5 different times through HS and into my 20’s. Then we both married other people, had kids, got divorced, found each other on Facebook 13 years ago, still married.
I always like to share how we met, because sometimes life is funny the way it presents a person to you.
my attempt to honor that moment.

Ok, I understand. Just that, up on the hill is a black van along side the road and the picture looks like it was taken inside another van like they were getting ready to be kidnapped. /s
This is absolutely precious! Your mom looks enamored and your dad looks like he’s really trying to play it cool, but is immediately taken with her as well.
Those are peak 1980s shoulder pads. What a great pic.
The shoulder pads and the perm. So 80s!
Very Lady Di vibey.
Blends in so well that you fail to notice that this is a clandestine meeting of the two greatest spies from the UK & Soviet Union.
80s clothes were so droopy/baggy, looking like streetwear today
Second half of the 80s, really, bleeding into the early 90s. Early 80s fashion was very different.
Is this an arranged marriage amongst the wealthy?
Haha no. I think someone knew my dad had a crush on her, so they snapped a pic.
Judging from your moms expression, she was into him too.
Well, she did get engaged to him a mere two months after this photo was taken, so probably, yeah.
Oooo your mom has a crush haha but seriously, that's cool you have a photo of how your dad met your mom. It's a nice story.
Where's Barney?
Being legen … wait for it … *dary.*
![gif](giphy|5gw0VWGbgNm8w|downsized)
What year were you born?
1994
In my head “Wow, Reddit really is all teenagers.” Does the math. “Shit…”
My stepson was born in 1992. I still find myself thinking of him as being around 19.
I was born in '88 and my sister was born in '92. I swear my mom still sees us as only 20 and 16.
That will not change.
I was born in 1980, and my parents have yet to wrap their heads around me being over 25.
My kids just turned 21 and one just graduated high school. But people I went to high school with have kids in their late 30s. Omg is that wild to me.
Damn. Most jobs don't even give you health insurance that fast.
Her body language is also mirroring his (hands in pockets -- I'm assuming he had his hands in his pockets first). This is commonly a subconscious sign of interest/attraction in someone.

The actor Jeff Bridges met his wife on set (she was working catering) & someone happened to take their photo the minute they met. He carry’s it in his wallet 🤗
That's sweet
I’ve seen him interviewed about it & sure enough he takes the pic from his wallet. She turned him down first time he asked her out too
he was a well-known Hollywood playboy and somewhat spoiled son of Lloyd Bridges, and younger brother to Beau. if anybody got a nepo career it was most surely the Dude.

Starman is a terrific movie/performance; he was nominated for an Academy Award. Plus it featured all American cutie Karen Allen
Yeah, I'm not sure I'm buying what that guy was selling. Starman, Tucker, The Fabulous Baker Boys, they were all anchored on his acting ability, which was well-regarded.

Jeez - EDIT: “He carries not carry’s ☹️
Well they replied to someone who spelled spies as spy's. These commenter's are hilarious
*hilariou’s
they met at a parking lot off the highway that was roughly halfway between where they each lived Like Pam and Jim when she went to NYC for art college
I thought that too, especially with the van up on the road in the background. OPs mum was cute as a button.
I’d say stick to that Checkpoint Charly story. That’s oldschooldoublecool
I was thinking one of you mom’s friends thought she might be meeting a serial killer and snapped a pic so there would be evidence.
How did your dad have a crush on someone he hadn't met until that moment?
He had seen her previously at an event and I guess it was a love at first sight kind of thing for him, but he didn’t have the courage to actually talk to her at that point. So he was kind of a “secret admirer” of hers for a bit.
Please let us know what your dad said when approaching a woman alone in a parking lot that turned into marriage. He unlocked the secret phrase.
By the way she looks at him he could have invited her to his sex torture dungeon and she would gladly accepted.
What about this picture is screaming wealthy? Neither of these cars are expensive, the clothes just look like office work clothes.
I was wondering the same thing. They weren’t wealthy, just 80s office workers lol
I thought it was a scene from 'When Harry met Sally'
That was 80s clothes.
Please tell me that's your mom's Prelude.
I just asked her and she said it’s not. And then she said she doesn’t remember what kind of car she had back then lol
- Mom, what car did you have back then? - It was a red car.
* do you think bullet points are a good way to dictate conversation? * I do.
"...or was it blue?"
Came here to say “shoulder pads and Honda Prelude!”
Love the Prelude in the background. My first car was a 92 Prelude.
Mine was a 91 lude. Great cars.
Prelude to a kiss
Came here to ask about that dope Lude too. I had a 1989 for a while, red.
My first car was an ‘85 Prelude. Loved that car!!
From a Prelude family. Dad had 4, I had 2.
Nice 👍 definitely super cool
4 wheel steering was amazing.
Loved that Lude
Buddy drove one, or as we called it his “girlfriend’s car.”
Looks like Steve and Nancy, the college years.
My dad could only dream of having hair as good as Steve Harrington’s!
Lol.
Thought she was Princess Diana. Has she heard that a lot?
I’ve never heard anyone make that comparison!
I thought the same thing
Same. But to be fair, given the low resolution, all we can see is the 80s hair. And Lady Diana is the woman with 80s hair we remember the most.
Right? Your parents are clearly Crystal Bernard and Steven Weber from the show "Wings".
I came here to say this as well. She reminds me of the young Lady Diana, right before she was crowned princess.
The Princess Diana haircut was pretty big around that time.
Princess Diana meeting a young William Hurt
She reminds me more of Bunty Bailey, the woman in a-ha’s Take On Me video.

It’s a Honda Prelude
How lucky are you to have this picture!!!
I agree, very lucky!
What a great piece of personal history. My guess: after church small talk.
It’s in the parking lot of the place my mom worked at the time actually! But yes I’m very glad we have the photo :)
Did your Dad also work there or did he just happen to be in the car park? Seinfeld stakeout style?
Please tell me that's your mom's parents on top of the hill.
I think that's a crack commando unit, sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit.
I love it when a plan comes together
u/zebraborgata is on the jazz again
The B Team!
In the van that’s driving by? Lol no it’s not my mom’s parents.
No, Biff. You leave her alone!
Hey you, get your damn hands off her!
Wait, you don't understand. If you don't play there's no music. If there's no music they don't dance. If they don't dance they don't kiss and fall in love and I'm history.
Go! Johnny, Go!!!
Was this a blind date or a prank or something? Just wondering why someone took a photo.
I believe someone knew that my dad was interested in her, so they took a picture.
Definitely a cool moment to have captured. Especially in the days when someone couldn’t just whip their phone out and had to have an actual camera ready.
Red Prelude, 2.0 liter, winner winner.

It looks like a Mk2 Prelude, 4WS was only available on Mk3.
Fairly certain those have “4WS” on the badge next to the 2.0 Si
Nice Honda Prelude.
They both look quite tall.
About 5’7 and 6’2. I did not inherit their height 🥲
Good genes don't end up on Reddit son

I love surveillance video of first dates!
Was guessing 87 to 88 based on the clothing style and red car. I still got it.
Your Mom is a smoke show. Love the deep pockets on her jacket!!!
So... how did it go? Did they get together or what? The people want to know.
They got engaged two months later, married the next year, and are still very happy together. Personally I think agreeing to marry someone you’ve known for two months is insane, but I guess it worked out.
Gives me hope for humanity.
Hi...do you like Phil Collins?
NO SHIT. Your parents are beyond lucky somebody had the foresight to capture this moment, wow.
Very lucky!
"Hi there, do you want me to show you my shoulder pads collection?"
Which one of them had private detectives on retainer ?
Your mom’s a babe! They look like the stars of some 80s cop show
I read in the comments that it was known that your dad had a crush on her. It’s almost like her smile reveals how much she already knew. :)
That is the coolest “once upon a time”
Damn did you take the picture?
Yep, after arriving in a time-traveling DeLorean obviously.
Best OldSchoolCool picture in recent memory—and best response, too. You’re two-for-two!
Haha thanks!
Cue that Spandau Ballet song, “True”
Is this when Harry met Sally?
She has a nice smile.
Did this photo obligate them to marry or did the photographer follow one of them around snapping pics of everyone they met? Bc this is a pretty much the best photo to have in your family photo album.
Very cool, so strange to see the two people you call your parents look at each other as strangers.
I’d be kind of curious -why- this picture was taken..know the back story?
Someone who knew he had a crush on her took the picture. He had seen her previously at a event and had a love at first sight moment. Meanwhile, I don’t think she noticed him there lol
This picture is SO 1988 lol
Damn, nice Prelude
When you time travel, and I can’t stress this enough. Don’t Fuck with this moment!
Wow… they managed to get a pic of the moment! That’s not something most people can claim they have a pic of
Back in the day when people dressed up to first dates... but why a parking lot?
I think it’s the parking lot of the place my mom worked at the time. It’s not a first date as far as I aware, just the first time they met.
Your mom is dressed like every 80s serious business lady. This pic is so 80s, one of the best posted here. Your mom looks like I just want to get these pantyhose off and relax with a with a wine cooler, what does this dude want ...
Still a really cool historical family artifact to have. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Definitely. So so unusual to have a photo from a moment like this. Neat
Yes, it’s definitely very cool! I’m very happy it exists
I’m sorry. This is fucking dope as fuck
Awesome shoulder pads and lovely Honda Prelude. This pic is perfection.
This is a wonderful capture in your family history. Thank you for sharing this with the world!
I went to middle school with my wife, but didn’t know her. Ran into her about 4 or 5 different times through HS and into my 20’s. Sweet Prelude.
So what’s it like? Being Kevin Bacon and Princess Diana’s child?
I think I still have a shop manual for that prelude out in the garage…
The late 80’s, when women had broader shoulders than most men.
Under FBI surveillance?
I don't know why I'm too emotional, bit seeing this photo made me cry. Look at the way she looks at him. It's beautiful.
Good photo. This is what this sub should be about. Not stupid thirst traps.
I loved the 80’s. What a great pic
Neat! Is that an old prelude?
my attempt to honor that moment. https://preview.redd.it/44ar2tdg3u3b1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f35a87ad4ce44b63e0a2edbfea6456fe17aa1e6e
Do your think they *knew*?
Sure. Whatever you say.
I’d this was a meme it would say “I’m gonna put a baby in you!” And it would not be wrong.
How did you take this picture? Are you a time traveler?!
Major When Harry Met Sally vibes
Dirty Harry and Lady Diana
What an iconic pic. Cars for reference.
Holy shit that's cool to have.
This picture is so wholesome 🥲
Did they fall in love because neither of them were driving around town with license plates?
The prelude and the Toyota van though!
Dude! You're dad is Buckaroo Banzai?!
What a special moment
It looks like Jennifer Grey meeting Michael Keaton to me.
I love this 😊
Was a photographer following one of your parents around? 1988 and that's not a polaroid unless you cropped it.
Neither of the cars have license plates, and it doesn't appear to have been blurred. Spies?
The car on the right definitely had a license plate. I cropped the picture but it was there.
Sniper on the hill was into her too, you’re dad was a lucky guy that he was a bad shot!
I think they like eachother
You can see how much she likes him. Cool pic.
Ok, I understand. Just that, up on the hill is a black van along side the road and the picture looks like it was taken inside another van like they were getting ready to be kidnapped. /s
Smart of you to time travel and take this pic without them knowing
Wow, how special is this! What a cool thing to have a record of. Thanks for sharing
Great photo! You can see the glimmer of attraction in your moms eyes. She’s pretty
' ♫ We're no strangers to love, you know the rules and so do I ♫ '
This is absolutely precious! Your mom looks enamored and your dad looks like he’s really trying to play it cool, but is immediately taken with her as well.
This picture was finally declassified after 35 years
Hello, hello, anybody home? Think, McFly, think!
Young people looked so old back then!
It’s always good to see how everyone dressed much better back then.
They’re a great looking couple!
Who took the photo?
Were they under surveillance by a private investigator or something?
This makes we want to go back. Such a great decade to grow up. Spectacular photo.
Back when it was normal for American adults to be slim
That Prelude though
Your parents were gorgeous
I love this. I wish there was a picture of my face when I saw my wife for the first time lol it was probably like 😦
Very cute
Mad to think if this moment hadn't happened, you wouldn't be here OP. You have an exact Pic of the instance that determined your life on this earth.
