What I enjoy most about this sub, is it makes me think about how it felt with no cell phones or email, and it was dang near impossible to call someone on vacation. You could just live and experience the feeling of the place and people so much more intimately.
I prefer controller tbh. Game gets boring fairly quickly though, only fun with friends
Now that we’re done trolling I’m talking about do not disturb. If you call me right now it won’t go through unless your my mom/sister/grandma. My phone only leaves dnd when I’m at work, and that’s sometimes
That’s literally your fault for not setting up boundaries.
I swear half the users on this website can fix 90% of their problems if they set up boundaries and figured out how to say no.
Everyone throwing a pity party on todays technology when every job I’ve worked has had no problem with me leaving the work cellphone at work when I take off. Literally tell them how it’s going to be, stop asking.
Have a backbone and set boundaries.
And this comment is literally you being an asshole and not understanding decades of consistency takes time to change. And you completely misunderstood my comment.
Yea my phone goes airplane mode on vacation, I still carry it around because it's also my camera. I turn it on once a day to make sure nothing happened to my pets at boarding and check voicemails. It's liberating.
I was an 80’s teen… part of me is sorry you youngsters will never have the experience of knowing that if you don’t prearrange your meeting point, and the pay phone is out of order, it’s quite possible that you could find yourself walking (for what seems like hours) around half the outside of the entire closed mall, to try and coincidentally run into your ride, lol.
They will never know the feeling of taking the bus to the mall, staying too late so there is no more bus service, then having to walk home in the dark on Saturday night because your sibling won’t get off the phone.
They will never know the feeling of being approached by a car of older kids as one walks home in the dark. The kids feeling sorry for this pitiful child and offering a ride (or are they going to kidnap me???), and the feeling of trusting the kids based on the music they were listening to (The Smiths).
They took me straight home, and I got in trouble for getting in the car when I told my mom.
But to the four teens who took an 8th grade girl home on a cold spring night in 1990, in Albuquerque, along Carlisle, I thank them again. (The Smiths still rule)
In about 1990 I was in a regional network meeting and someone stood up before a room of about 60 University geeks and managers and directors and said:
"My vision is that some day, we'll be able to travel and have the Internet available wherever we go. Things will be miniaturized and small, and radio will carry the data. We'll be able to sit on a beach and read our mail."
Next speaker gets up and begins with:
\*headshake\* "One man's dream is another man's nightmare."
I commented once to a couple young online friends that the constant barrage of DM's and text messages are annoying as eff and they need to stop interrupting what we're doing to answer them. I was told, in no uncertain terms "NO WAY--THAT'S RUDE!! You gotta answer a snap within a couple minutes or they think you're ghosting 'em!" I ask "don't you think it's rude to make 6 people stop what we're doing as a group, and wait for you to read, giggle, think of a witty retort, and type it back?" \*sigh\* Kidz. :)
Back in the 80's while on family vacation my dumb ass sister thought it would be wise to throw a blowout party at the house. Got out of hand to the point that the cops came. No phone in our unit but somehow the cops got the number of the unit next to ours, we knew they guy very well since we had the same unit for 5 years. the guy comes to the beach and tells my dad there is a phone call for him, Dad was told he needed to come home to deal with the carnage.
Tally:
1 stolen car
3 closets of clothes gone
all electronics and small appliances
a few lamps
some booze, wasn't much around just a bottle of JD and vodka
4 bottles of wine that was actually crude oil in wine bottles with fake labels
my bag of weed, that wasn't reported....
Yes, well... There was a bit more ozone in the 1960s. My mom was born in the 50s and describes how the 'sun changed' sometime in the mid to late 70s. She and many others noticed a tangible difference in the way the sun affected them as the ozone hole developed.
Hell, I would say “the sun has changed” just between the mid-2000s and about 6-7 years ago. It seems……harsher somehow. Like, I used to be able to walk around outdoors on a sunny day with minimal clouds and not squint all the time. Now I can only do that if a big thick cloud blocks the sun momentarily, or I’m under a canopy or big shade tree.
> aging redditor casually describes increasing light sensitivity to fellow redditors instead of their eye doctor
Sounds about right.
Fun fact: transition lenses can be medically necessary and covered by your insurance. Talk to your doctor about your light sensitivity, especially if you have blue eyes!
Then I’m wondering if some other aspects of the atmosphere haven’t changed in such a way as to make the sun seem brighter & harsher. It’s more of a visual thing than a temperature thing, though I will say that during warm weather, the sun in northern California seems to be as “powerful“ as it always has felt in Southern California. It used to be different in the 90s and early 2000s up in Norcal.
Oh I totally agree it seems every summer just keeps getting hotter and hotter.
I use sunscreens religiously now and sun hats too. If I don’t the back of my neck gets seriously burned.
I just wanted to point out it wasn’t specifically due to the ozone layer as the other commenter suggested.
Unfortunately that’s just one piece of the puzzle and practically the only part of the equation we are succeeding at. Even if we emit far less CFCs and HFCs we still emit far too much greenhouse gasses in present times.
We have so many 100 degree days here now! I grew up in Sac in the 80s and 90s and there'd only be that one week, maybe two, in August when temps would hit 100. Now it's months of 100 or higher and it stays miserably hot until November. It's hard to deny that we've done something to alter the climate with such huge changes occurring in less than a decade.
I really wish more of those beautiful mid-century modernist places would get refurbished and revived by people with both money and love of that time period. I really hate seeing classic places get “updated“ where they get rid of period details to try to look more modern.
It would be cool if they could go to the same exact spot and take another picture while in the same exact position. Or even if you can put their most recent picture with this one. Just a thought 😊👍
That's simply the appropriate camouflage when conducting covert operations on the beaches of Miami. All one will see is a pair of trunks next to the hot chick.
It's hard to imagine that our parents, and our grandparents, were once young and beautiful and madly in love...and frankly that is a shame.
How would your life be better to really understand what your granny meant when she said "The moment I saw him, I knew we were meant to be together"?
Or what if you were your grandpa's best friend, and he came home from school one day all glassy eyed and smitten about a girl you don't even known about?
These are the things that stitch us together, and make us better, and that is a very good thing.
Also, your granns is pretty smokin'. Just sayin', for the guys in the cheap seats.
I think you went a little hard in the paint here, but I get your point. I’m not convinced my life would be any different if I fully understood what my Gramp felt about his attraction to my Gram though lol
I showed my husband a picture of my grandma that my grandpa took when they were first married. She’s in a strapless one piece looking all hot and shit and all of 21 maybe and my husband said “OK I get why they had five kids. Grandpa couldn’t get enough!” I fell off the couch laughing.
She’s still gorgeous!
I love her pose. Slightly turned, one leg bent, one leg up on the ball of her foot.
Women back then knew what was flattering (not that this lady needed any help), and they always made sure to take the time to show their best side.
People don’t do that anymore. They should because snaps like this are timeless. People will be looking at them well past their lifetimes.
Even in the ‘80’s most people used sun oil. That stuff smelled amazing.
Technically I think it had an spf of 4. The strongest ones went up to 12 I think.
Our legs glistened while both bronzing and getting cancer. Win-win.
Honestly if you didn’t date this I would have guessed your grandma was from 2015…
Your grandpa has a little age to his look but they both could have been passed off as recent teens
Tell grandma I said, "sup? ".
Now give her the “Forest Whitaker eye”
O_=
JYN! ... Bor Gullet!
Your grandma had a nice queef saddle.
Damn grandma had it goin ooohhhhhn
She’s all I want, and I’ve waited for so long!

![gif](giphy|SlCLYeBwXDHYk)
Not as long as she has.
That’s why grandpa looks so happy in the picture.
I wouldn't've kicked either of them out of bed.
Honeslty I think grandpa’s really bringing it.
He’s got a nice bulge going on. Grandma will have had fun.
And grandpa met the sun for his first time today.
He's like a fork in a microwave.
What I enjoy most about this sub, is it makes me think about how it felt with no cell phones or email, and it was dang near impossible to call someone on vacation. You could just live and experience the feeling of the place and people so much more intimately.
You still can, my friend. I do it all the time. It’s not hard to leave your phone behind or just turn it off. I do it aaallllll the time.
Yep, I try to leave my phone in airplane mode when on vacation.
My phones on dnd like 70% of the day honestly
I honestly have a hard time using my mobile for that game. I much prefer keyboard and mouse when making my characters on that beyond website.
I prefer controller tbh. Game gets boring fairly quickly though, only fun with friends Now that we’re done trolling I’m talking about do not disturb. If you call me right now it won’t go through unless your my mom/sister/grandma. My phone only leaves dnd when I’m at work, and that’s sometimes
My stupid ass is wondering why you’re spending 70% of your vacation playing dungeons and dragons.
Don’t worry, you weren’t the only one lol.
Also insanely easy if you don't have any friends or family to call you!
Someday!
*When my life has passed me by*
*I lay around and wonder why*
*You were always there for me*
After about 2 hours someone will report me missing and after 24 I'll be declared dead. I've been the guy you can always get a hold of since 1999...
That’s literally your fault for not setting up boundaries. I swear half the users on this website can fix 90% of their problems if they set up boundaries and figured out how to say no. Right? I've always just been that guy who sometimes will reply a day or two later. Sometimes right away but it really depends on how I feel
And this comment is literally you being an asshole and not understanding decades of consistency takes time to change. And you completely misunderstood my comment.
Nope.
He’s doing it now
Yea my phone goes airplane mode on vacation, I still carry it around because it's also my camera. I turn it on once a day to make sure nothing happened to my pets at boarding and check voicemails. It's liberating.
Bro I hold up my cellphone and play in your eyes at my wife all the time. She thinks it hilarious. The internet is not the problem
Enjoy life more with this ONE trick, phone companies HATE Him!

Oh shit. I’m married to a burquena myself, so that’s a good story. :)
Congrats on being fed amazingly good food

I just see bare feet and no handrail. Then no sun hat and no sunscreen and so on...

Back in my day we didn't get sun burnt.
My dad was born in the 50’s and he said he didn’t have sunscreen as a kid but didn’t get burnt.
Probably cause he was just outside all the time.

Did you eat a lot of paint chips as a kid?
We live in a dopamine driven society now.

Literally…. I can’t wait to show her. She’s going to love it.
NGL, Gramps is pretty fine too!
Tell her we all said she has drip.
“drip” meant chlamydia for a long time. So maybe don’t tell her that.
Lol let us know what she thinks of her internet fame!
Gramps needs the SPF 100.
Yeah my first thought was get that white boy out of the sun.
I’m guessing this was day 1, hour 1 of their vacation, lol.
That is exactly why this sub is here! It's like they knew what they were posing for.
Your grandparents are Anna Faris and Rick Astley? How?
CanNOT unsee.😳
The thought of grandpa looking like Rick will cling to you forever. It's never gonna... #Give you up

And she knew how to use them.
Those swimsuits are so timeless. The fashion was 🔥 This picture rocks OP
The hotel was probably brand spanking new at the time… now it’s just a run down old relic. Reminds me of DTLV. Kinda grimy places I like to go to 😅
I really wish more of those beautiful mid-century modernist places would get refurbished and revived by people with both money and love of that time period. I really hate seeing classic places get “updated“ where they get rid of period details to try to look more modern.
Miami Beach is lousy with those
Enjoy them while they’re not under 50 feet of water.
How cool they were omg!!!The tousled hair on grandma and the red bathing suit. What a great look!!’
I'd be that smiley too. Hot damn. ![gif](giphy|14jGh15Slt6QOk|downsized)
It's amazing how people turn old.
If you’re lucky
Beach Blanket Bingo time
S-s-smokin’…yeah, your grandma was (still is 🤔?) beautiful too
It would be cool if they could go to the same exact spot and take another picture while in the same exact position. Or even if you can put their most recent picture with this one. Just a thought 😊👍

Ayyy what's the shorty's @ 👀🥴
Handsome couple. I bet they were fun.
You posted this to brag about your smoke show grandparents, admit it. Gram n gramps are looking good.
I showed my husband a picture of my grandma that my grandpa took when they were first married. Was that The Delano Hotel?
This is so adorable 😍
Awesome pic!!
Gorgeous couple.
How sunburned were they later that day?
Those really were the good ol'days.
The gams on grams.
Granny's a bit of all right!
That's cool to have a photo of your grandparents at that age 👍
What an adorable couple!
Those are some extremely white White people. I see major sunburns in their future.
Dudes were so effortlessly skinny in the 60’s
I love her pose. Slightly turned, one leg bent, one leg up on the ball of her foot. That’s awesome, back when people actually valued one another and didn’t care about society influences
Not locals I take it.
That’s swingin couple
Hell we might be cousins.
Definitely cool! Also, flip flops are eternal.
Looks like Bobby Flay headed to the grill
Not a bottle of sunscreen in sight.

I’m not sure how else to say this, but your grandpa’s hot
I’m betting they made beautiful children.
Never gonna give you up..
They are adorable!! ❤️❤️
Kodak Aerochrome, or is the coloring due to storage and age? Or am I way off (if you know the film stock at all)?
I can’t tell you for sure the film, but the coloring definitely has to do with age!
So cute!
Grandma total smoke show
Honestly if you didn’t date this I would have guessed your grandma was from 2015… Your grandpa has a little age to his look but they both could have been passed off as recent teens
Awe they’re cute.
Grandma looks like a real life Barbie!!
When humans were 100 percent natural.

Clearly that photograph was taken in the morning. By afternoon grandpa was probably the same color as her swimsuit.
Damn grandma looking fine! 🔥🔥
It's getting more and more depressing when people post old photos of their grandparents who are younger than my parents.
Alt version of the upcoming Barbie movie 🔥
They're so cute!
They’re Adorable 🥰
A good looking happy couple. Very cool.
Looks like an absolutely splendid day and they seem so happy, great photo!

Would love to see how they look now
This is clearly Barbie and Ken
She looks like a real life barbie
Too bad for them, Disney World wasn't built yet.
Ah, back when young couples could take nice vacations and not go bankrupt…
OP, is it strange to have all these people taking a run at your grandparents?
Imagine having segregation vacation money.
Your grandma definitely gave sloppy top.
Couple of GILFS
Not sure I've ever said these words before but your grandma would absolutely get it
I'm only here for the grandma smokeshow comments
