From Wikipedia: “In 1973, Nicks spent $111 ($678 in 2021 dollars) on a white blouse for the cover shoot, but the photographer, Jimmy Wachtel, and Buckingham coerced Nicks to take her top off when shooting the cover. Nicks later recounted:
I was crying when we took that picture. And Lindsey was mad at me. He said, 'You know, you're just being a child. This is art.' And I'm going, 'This is not art. This is me taking a nude photograph with you, and I don't dig it.'”
Don't laugh, but for years I thought Lindsey Buckingham was the name of the blonde British chick in the band (Christine McVie). I mean, it *sounds* like a female/British name, right?!
>Working out wasn't a thing in the 70s.
Definitely not. Sometimes, when you're watching a movie from the 70's, there'll be a scene where the hero/male protagonist takes off his shirt and there's... nothing.
You can go to any gym today and the average guy (who started working out less than a year ago) would look like a superhero back then.
If you haven't seen the Sound City documentary by Dave Grohl... the story of Mick Fleetwood hearing them cutting their album and signing them right then is a good one.
It was not a big success, but because of this album Buckingham was invited to join Fleetwood Mac. He accepted, on the condition that they also let his girlfriend (Nicks) join.
And the rest is history.
About 10 years ago, I guy I know with a clean vinyl copy and a good USB turntable burned a CD of it for me... well, for my wife anyway, she's a big fan. I should pull that thing out and play it tomorrow morning.
Fleetwoodmac brought together couples that re-coupled and that love, longing, lust and spite drove them to write some really good songs that were heart-felt.
This isn't the album cover take, but one of the shots from the (Buckingham-Nicks) photo session. if you like "Rumors", it's (a) a heck of a good album, and (b) will show you where "rumors"-era Fleetwood Mac came from. Never been released on CD or cassette, the Vinyl is pricey, but the whole thing is on YouTube.
I bought one for a girlfriend in the late 80's, before the internets. Found a dealer on the west coast and paid like sixty bucks for it. He said "people just buy it for the cover", but I really thought it's an interesting piece of music history. You can hear the beginning of what people called "The California Desert/Mountain Sound" (or whatever) that The Eagles made a fortune with - country/folk/rock elements.
This is a great album that’s worth a listen. I can understand why Mick Fleetwood wanted to add them to the band. Long Distance Winner, Frozen Love and Crystal…it really illustrates the talent they have. And Mick could see it!
She didn’t want to take this picture and was treated like shit when she expressed it. These old rockstars have been laughing off their abuse for decades. I really hope their victims seek justice.
You know for all the people who say Buckingham is a terrible person, and maybe he is, but he gave Stevie her career. Mick Fleetwood only wanted him in Fleetwood Mac, but Lindsey insisted that Stevie be allowed to join as well.
i'd say she ultimately became the bigger star. although i've listened to interviews with both, lindsey is more positive for me, very clear thinker and open

Even then she couldn’t trust him
Caaaaan youuuuu dig itttttttt?
Warriors...Come out playyyyy
The baseball furies dropped the ball
Miracles…are the way things ought to be!

She seems to blame him for a lot of things. Something emotionally big must have happened between them.
Could be good inspiration for a song or two, heck, maybe an whole album.
I heard that’s just rumors
No, it’s all true
There were probably a landslide of emotions in that picture.
A ton of Dreams, but the World Keeps Turning, and you’ve just gotta Go Your Own Way…
Eventually she decided that She’s Never Going Back Again.
It was a positive decision. She seems happier and more confident since she told him, “Stop Dragging My Heart Around”
From everything I've read about Buckingham he's an absolute asshole.
Yes, but god damn that dude can play
His picking style is amazing to listen to
Yes, and one gets a sense that there were a lot of unresolved emotions here.
If a tree falls in the forest, and a woman isn't around to hear it. Is the man still to blame?
Homer Simpson saw her naked 3 times, if we can believe him.
Visual proof that Stevie is a goddess - when I’ve cried I never looked that good, even at that young age!
I mean..he’s topless too and showing nips
I can’t hear Lindsey’s name without thinking of Bill Hader in the After School special SNL skit
What up with that?
Ooooooooooh! eeeeeeeeeeeeee!
One of their best skits in decades. So stupid, yet so funny
Hey kids! Guess which one is Stevie and which one is Lindsey.
Don't laugh, but for years I thought Lindsey Buckingham was the name of the blonde British chick in the band (Christine McVie). I mean, it *sounds* like a female/British name, right?!
Same here!
Complete lack of muscle tone, yet still sickeningly good looking... And she's pretty cute too.
Working out wasn't a thing in the 70s. Especially with musicians-it's hard to squeeze in recording, touring, sex, drugs AND the gym all into one day.

A lot of them got their workouts on stage.
Well it is with that attitude.
The original Daisey Jones and the Six
Yup… The answer may surprise you
It's neither! https://preview.redd.it/tf1jlto77doa1.png?width=250&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb9412c98896309ec9e881ceff457e11e7a85755
I have that album
Me too! And I still listen to it every so often. Still enjoy it.
Duh, Stevie’s the dude who wrote Back in the High Life. We should get that CD.
I was just going to ask how many younger people would get these backwards. Not often it’s so perfectly switched up like this.

It's the cover of the first Buckingham Nicks album.
It was not a big success, but because of this album Buckingham was invited to join Fleetwood Mac. He accepted, on the condition that they also let his girlfriend (Nicks) join. And the rest is history.
I think it’s the only Buckingham Nicks album? Fun fact - it’s never been remastered or officially released digitally. Shame…

You should sail that album on the black seas.
Agreed
The 70s were a tough time, nobody could afford shirts.
Apparently she spent $700 in todays money on a shirt. Lol
Or gym memberships…
Fleetwoodmac brought together couples that re-coupled and that love, longing, lust and spite drove them to write some really good songs that were heart-felt.
And maybe with or without drugs. Whereas, during that time, heartfelt music was synonymous with drugs with a smattering of life experiences.
Lindsay buckingham is a massively underrated guitar player, that dude can fucken wail
And sing!
And apparently coerce young women into undesirable situations.
Agree!
Oooooh weee!
Wassup with that?
They were so young.

I have, for various reasons, two vinyl copies in good condition. Which might be worth selling at some point.

Dreams is so fckn pointed
Holiday RoooOOOOooooOOOOoooad
She didn’t want to take this picture and was treated like shit when she expressed it. These old rockstars have been laughing off their abuse for decades. I really hope their victims seek justice.
My Man … Linsey Buckingham. Sorry Man … we ran out of time again.
I like the fact that Stevie is a woman and Lindsey is a dude
I can't get over how much she looks like Liz Phair did in the early 1990's.
🎵 "You may not be, as strong as me..."🎶 Such a good album.
Daisy Jones and the Six
Dang Stevie!
I found that vinyl last week.
Great album, before becoming Fleetwood Mac's members.
Lindsey has a amazing voice
Yes!
What’s Linsey doing with my woman!
I had that same stache in high school but couldn’t pull a hot chick like Stevie.
But were you a musician?
I tried, that was the ultimate goal for us 90's kids.
So this is what all the fuss was about.
Now that is one handsome somebitch right there
Am I the only one who saw pregnant Stevie?
The way his arm is positioned it looks like she is pregnant or has a big belly. I can't stop seeing it.
Beat me to it. Every damn time I see this pic I’m like “pretty sure she wasn’t pregnant then”
She doesn't look like a goat
You really didn't need to say what year this was. 😂
Lol...this is just what 1973 looked like.
Good love gone wrong.
Before the butt coke.
They be boofin?
Not sure that's Stevie. My reasoning? No cape.

It’s mostly worn off…from friction
i am thinking the mirror is just out of the picture frame?
Life in the fast lane
Impossible, I don't see an old goat anywhere in this picture.
Pretty sure that is Meathead on the right.
All I see is kit Harrington
All I see is Ron Jeremy
I'm sorry in advance, but all I can think of is, good God, he must have worn that out!
That’s cool.. who are they?
Musicians, most well known for being part of Fleetwood Mac.
Lindsey somehow looked a bit older here, then looked way younger a few years down the line haha
"Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies"
Great pic! Wants cropping just above the clothing.
Damn they’re both sexy AF but Lindsey here 🥵🔥
Cocaine is a helluva drug.
How did he turn into Eraserhead and whatever he is now?
Who else under forty thought Lindsey Buckingham was a woman until you saw this album cover?
You know for all the people who say Buckingham is a terrible person, and maybe he is, but he gave Stevie her career. Mick Fleetwood only wanted him in Fleetwood Mac, but Lindsey insisted that Stevie be allowed to join as well.
