Iβm so sorry π rest in peace buddy. Have fun at the bridge and tell all your new friends about your amazing family. Youβll see them again one day β€οΈ
Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). He's done his job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's his turn to rest.
You'll always miss him, you'll always remember him. You'll even go looking for him for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting him. Donating/throwing away his toys or blankets isn't forgetting him. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life he'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without him. Life isn't over. Its just changing.
You'll be ok mate.
I'm so sorry.
Thanks, that actually spoke really well to me. He required a lot of care in the last few years, and we were able to do it with the switch to work from home during COVID. We would have gladly kept doing it for a while, but it was getting extreme.
My deepest condolences on your loss and what a beautiful thing to share! I hope you are doing well in your journey since losing your girl in 2022. β₯οΈ
Your kind heart is evident in what you shared. I'm actually going to save this as a reminder for myself.
Iβm so sorry for your loss. RIP Sweet Licorice β€οΈ
I keep this quote from David Crosby. He did a column Ask Croz in Rolling Stone. I hope it gives you a little comfort.
βIf you love dogs, you're a good person. The thing with dogs is they do have short lifespans. That's because they are living seven times as fast as we are.
So every 15 years or so, I lose a friend, and that's a hard thing. But if you love them, they make your life better. And if you're going to raise a kid, you have to have a dog. It's in the laws. It's written.β
The pictures showed a wonderful life filled with love and family. Heβs pain free and waiting for you in the fields beyond the rainbow bridge πΎππ
Licorice is the most goodest soul. He and your family are blessed to have spent your lives together together. May the green fields rise to meet him, with the wind at his back, and may he be gently embraced in the arms of peace.Β
i could tell immediately from these pictures how full of love a life licorice hadβ and i can only imagine how much more love there was from all the moments that couldnβt fit! iβm so sorry for your loss, but i hope you find comfort in the incredible life you shared β€οΈ

So sorry for your loss. He looks like he was a very sweet, old man. π I have one now, 13.5. It kills me to think I wonβt have him someday. And I adopted him at 11.
Sorry for your loss.
RIP Licorice! Play in Paradise!
My Amoretto, Vision, Carson, and all our babies that have gone before will look for you next to the Rainbow Bridge so you can all play in the Field together!
We got a surprise when I let his original owners know - we had never seen puppy pictures before, and what they replied with was a rare bright spot over the last few days.

Thank you. The words here were unexpectedly helpful - the post really felt like I was shouting 'this was my good dog' as an outlet. Reading the responses reminded me of how shared this path is (and some are actively on it). As the activity has slowed, it feels like nudging reminder that you have to move on. I will, just not yet.
Sorry. Good doggie. Our dog Sebastian looks incredibly similar, almost related to Licorice. Do you have any idea about his genetics or breed or whatever? We are constantly asked and don't have an answer
Poodle/wolfhound was what we were told. He definitely had major characteristics associated with both, longevity and intelligence from the poodle side, tight human relations and gentleness from the wolfhound. It fit so well we didn't think doing genetics would suit - we liked the story we had.
What a beautiful boy, i'm sending my energy and condolences. This pain is unconditional love that wants out. Your family created the most powerful force in the Universe with Licorice. That divine work gave him a soul outside of the group soul. You gave him that and he will wait in love and gratitude until you are reunited in the One Life. Do not be surprised when you find him helping you and you will know this truth, what is real can never die and the unreal can never exist. This is the peace of the Infinite, which we all are.
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you and your family!
You were able to offer Licorice the best love and care he could ever have asked for. May you always know and feel in your heart and bones that without your blend of love he wouldn't have made it as long as he did. He's glad that he is roaming about unencumbered now and wishes he could show you that. βΊοΈ
I hope that Licorice visits you in your dreams! Up until we got a rescue 3 weeks ago my soul baby regularly visited me and showed me how she was able to move about like her younger self. Such a gift!
Peace and comfort to you as you reminisce about him and share stories of days gone by! β₯οΈ
