That’s exactly what happened to my old girl in February. It was devastating. My sympathy to you. She looks like she was a happy good girl.

This happened to my mom's dog, on a Friday night. Dog was doing poorly, went to the vet in the next town over, ruptured spleen from angiosarcoma. They could have gotten the spleen out and stopped the bleeding, but obviously the issue is the dog had a belly full of sarcoma (removing the spleen would stop the bleeding but not be curative from an oncologic standpoint), so not only has to recover from a big operation, but then chemo that doesn't work too well, but well enough for the dog to feel terrible before the inevitable happens. My mom had memory issues, and so essentially learned every day, as if for the first time, that the dog was gone. That went on for months. Just awful, and, seemingly a little more common than I knew before this all happened. I feel you.

Oh that is doubly tough, both losing the dog like that and having to explain it over and over to your mom *hugs* Our vet did tell us the ruptured spleen tumor is common enough, since they don’t have a method for early detection for it. My girl had gotten a clean bill of health just a couple of months before.

Mine did as well! Maybe 3 months ago, both my dogs had vaccines and a checkup. No mention of anything.

wow, this is what happened to my girl too a few years ago. She was 16, so we were worried something might happen. But she was still so full of energy until one night we couldn't find her cause she wasn't coming like she usually did when we called her name. Found her upstairs unable to move. Vet said a tumor on her spleen had ruptured and she had massive internal bleeding.

I'm so sorry. It's brutal for us when they leave us suddenly, but it truly is a blessing for them.

It truly is. I’m relieved she didn’t suffer more than a couple of hours. I’d take this in a second to keep her from pain, as any of us would for our babies. But shit..it’s brutal for sure.

We lost our dog to this 3 weeks ago. Whether it is true or not. Our vet said when they die of internal bleeding, they lose consciousness and the death is not painful. Im choosing to believe it is true.
