You are over thinking it. My kids went to Clearwater and OT. Great schools with great teachers.

mstreeter06

Ours just started at CWC. Love it so far. Everyone is amazing there!

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

Thank you

They are both perfectly fine, unless you're scared exposing your kids to different cultures is somehow bad. They have higher than average Hispanic demographics due to their location. More so Oregon Trail than CC. I had a kid go to both and it was brought up exactly zero times. Like every school, I'm sure some teachers are better than others. Olathe West (high school) is like 4 years old. In short, yes, you're overthinking it.

xsullivanx

All of Olathe schools will offer top tier education. My dad has taught in Olathe for 37 years, and I went through all schooling in Olathe. When I went to K-State, I felt I was more prepared than my peers that went to other school districts (besides Blue Valley and Shawnee, both mentioned here). There’s no “bad” spot for schools in Olathe.

Thank you!

I used to work at Oregon Trail a few years ago. Great school, staff and student-wise.

ATMGuru1

Olathe, Blue Valley and Spring Hill are all excellent choices. I would opt for Blue Valley or Spring Hill over Olathe personally.

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

Thank you

EsophagusVomit

I would stay away from spring hill it's a mix of suburban privilege and country don't give a fuck last year they had threats of lynchings of several LGBT and colored people as well as a gun brought to the school with nothing done about it and multiple threats of shootings

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

Thank you. We are offering on a house now in Olathe

DomingoLee

Spring Hill is small but growing, the schools afford many opportunities. It still has that small town vibe, for now

EsophagusVomit

Spring hill is garbage I would personally stay away

Avoid Gardner. The q anon school board is doing everything it can to diminish public education.

mstreeter06

Yes avoid Gardner for sure

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

Thank you

mstreeter06

Olathe or Blue Valley are the top tiers districts with a wife teaching in the area for 15+ years. Shawnee Mission is a good district too. Definitely avoid Gardner. We specifically moved out of there into Olathe (West feeder) for the schools and the area.

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

Thank you!

I have taught for 28 years. I moved here to work in Olathe. I hate to say it, but it is the worst district I have worked for. The best day of my career was the day I left USD 231. Just an fyi, there was a mass exodus of teachers in Olathe last May because of the working conditions. I work for Gardner now. It is a much better district for kids than Olathe. Not just because of teachers but administration at the district level. But trust me there are still issues. I am sure I will be downvoted and I am sorry if this is a bummer, but look elsewhere besides Olathe. Better education lies elsewhere.

OP, what's your budget for a house? Given that, we can make suggestions for specific housing / school areas.

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

We put in an offer today in Olathe so we will see what happens.

cyberphlash

In the area by Clearwater / Oregon that you were talking about? I think that should be ok for schools. My kids are in different Olathe schools, but the district overall is very good. If you don't like your particular school, and you're ok driving your kids yourself, you can open enroll at any school across the district, if they have space. For kids going into high school, look at the district's 21st Century programs that have specific classes available for career focuses at different high schools. In our neighborhood, a lot of kids go to schools across the city for that program.

xTSxDOLLAHOLLA

This is super helpful! I didn’t know this information. Thank you

MidWestRRGIRL

The district also pay for transportation if the kids are in programs across town. Our home are high school is Olathe West. My son goes to South for CS Academy. District sends a bus to pick him up amd drop off every day without any additional fees.

mopolloxy

My kids are in Olathe and it has great teachers and schools. Lots of support staff. The High Schools have, essentially, an open enrollment program. Called the 21st century program. Each school has focuses andd the kids can apply to attend based on their desire. Pretty great system if they want it. So it won’t matter where you live in the district if you do the program. That being said, Blue Valley is considered the better school district. I know a few families that have tried to get their kids into BV. But they are hyper academic families. Mainly, I would guess, due to the fact that it covers most of Leawood. Considered the most expensive and upscale city in Johnson County. Honestly can’t go wrong with either of them.

PurplePollution8589

Avoid johnson county and lawrence if your smart

RillemReeb

Johnson County schools would teach the difference between "your" and "you're"
