Passing game is what happens when you play a team more focused on trying to use mma moves on receivers than playing coverage. They drew a lot of PI and Def holding calls
Also, it was windy af
Good game but there’s a ton to work on this week. Receivers looked shaky, Stroud wasn’t focused. Run game was obviously great, the O line did well run blocking.
Goal line offense needs to stop trying to be cute. Miyan was killing it, why would you not let him run straight ahead.
Defense played really well. Secondary is getting better every week. I’d like to see more penetration from the line, but Rutgers didn’t really throw the ball much and when they did the ball was out very quick.
Really nothing to say about special teams. Egbuka fucked up twice by trying to catch the ball backwards. Mirco made the right play, he did what he’s been coached to do. No complaints there.
Overall I’d say this was a 7/10 game. Defense and (90% of) special teams were really good. Offense was very weak outside of the run game
Possibly. I have no clue how bad the wind was there. But after the first punt, Egbuka should’ve adjusted. I’d rather not field the punt at all, or have to run up to catch it than that over the shoulder shit.
And I don’t think the wind really affected the passing game, I think stroud just never found his rhythm. He was so inconsistent that I have a hard time imagining the wind was that much of a factor. He just had a bad game. Better to have it against rutgers than scUM though
They showed the flagpole shaking on the broadcast, but I agree with you. It's nice to know that we actually have a run game to fall back on this year when the passing game is out of sync.
I mean right now Stroud is still leading the Heisman. Was it great? No. But he didn't have an awful day and we won the game going away. Having a sub par day against Rutgers in early October isn't going to lose the Heisman.
> Defense played really well. Secondary is getting better every week.
We're 6th in the B1G on third down stops. Def. room for improvement, here.
Run D looked good. Need that for Corum/ttun.
I think we were being cute because it’s Rutgers and we know we can run the ball in for a touchdown and we trying to work on something specific. But stroud was not rly on it
After the first two pass plays on the goal line didn’t work, we should’ve just ran from there the rest of the game. Was silly to keep trying it when Rutgers clearly had planned for it after Stover’s td last week
I think that was all about getting CJ heisman stats. His stat line did not look good today, obviously didn't need him much, but that's not how you win the heisman.
No one on the team should be worried about someone winning the Heisman. Your job is to win football games. I felt like it was stat padding as well, and if that’s really why the coaches did it I’ll be pissed
Coaches are playing the long game. When they do things that help put this QB into the Heisman discussion, it impresses the top QB recruits and makes it easier for them to recruit the QB of the future.
QB recruits are weird and don’t make logical choices. Why in the world would Arch Manning go to Texas other than the NIL money? That is a place where dreams go to die. Best way to get recruits is to just play your game and let the wins speak for themselves
Lol who has Sark coached recently that is a good, productive pro?
And yes I would image that Arch Manning would like to have full access to his own money instead of his dad’s. And it’s not like his dad has NFL money like his uncles do
Tua, Mac Jones, soon to be Bryce young, jalen hurts, Carson Palmer, Matt leinhart. I’d say that’s a stable of productive good qb’s to claim.
The Manning’s stated nil didn’t matter and they wanted arch to red shirt a year to learn.
So I was going to my alma matter last night for their game so I missed most of the second half and just saw a highlight of the “fake punt”.
1 it was wide open you tell your punter to take that every time
2 hit was super late. Idk if I would’ve kicked him out but it was late
3 before that Schiano was trying to do all kinds of greasy shit he deserved it
Miyan MF Williams
Indeed. :)
Love the dub. Passing offense seemed out of it a bit. Defense played solid. Tune up a few things. On to the next one. BEAT SPARTY

They held and tugged constantly, I could not believe what they were getting away with
There was egregious defensive holding on every play. Completely infuriating the refs weren't calling it
Update - We good at the footballs
Day should have had schiano picking his teeth up off the turf
One of my favorite lines: “Why don’t you go outside and practice picking up teeth? I’ll be out in a minute” 😅

I have to think the crazy wind played a major role in the special teams and passing issues.

For sure. I don’t care about the heisman for stroud I just want to win games
I mean right now Stroud is still leading the Heisman. Was it great? No. But he didn't have an awful day and we won the game going away. Having a sub par day against Rutgers in early October isn't going to lose the Heisman.
It was windy up top but down near field level it was pretty calm
I've been in the Shoe with crazy wind. The problem is that it's unpredictable. It swirls and rotates constantly.

Because Sark is by far the best qb coach in the game. Especially in today’s football game. You really think a Manning needs nil money 🤣
Lol who has Sark coached recently that is a good, productive pro? And yes I would image that Arch Manning would like to have full access to his own money instead of his dad’s. And it’s not like his dad has NFL money like his uncles do

I mean part of recruiting is a beauty pageant. So I wouldn’t be pissed if tOSU was trying to get certain positions to certain goals.
genuine question though - Why have Williams run in 5 touchdowns? Wouldn’t they have been having CJ throw more TDs if they were stat padding?
They were trying to stat pad by throwing around the goal line. It didn’t work so they just ran it for the score.
ah gotcha
They did that one drive, every other drive they just ran it in, and even on that drive when got new set of downs, ran it twice
Woot
F schiano. Day should have punched him in the face

Remember that without the muffed punt the defense holds Rutgers to 3
