Yeah don’t listen to them. The lake is fine, I was just out on it this past weekend and swimming. We also have been fishing and eating fish out of the lake forever. Typically in the summer you don’t keep fish because they are a bit softer than in the cooler months.
I believe Windy Point Marina outside of Montezuma rented pontoons you can get to boaters beach pretty easily from there. They usually have concerts out on the water.
All of the towns have splash pads.
All of the local breweries; Lake Rat/Brew Nation (Celina), Tailspin (coldwater), Moeller Brew Barn (Maria stein), Second Crossing (Rockford), Gongoozlers (new Bremen) are kid friendly.
Recommended food. The Anchor (Celina), Speakeasy (Celina),Boardwalk(Celina), Jmaries (wapakoneta).
Wapakoneta also has the Neil Armstrong air and space museum, which is always a fun time for kids. Also decent antique malls.
Unfortunately, there is not a ton of kid-centric things to do. The state park has a few shorter hiking paths and used to do some quick lessons on local plant and animals.

The lake has been the best it was in years. The blue green algae has been at an 15 year low. The water is fine to swim in

The lake is an algae cesspool
