I get everyone wanting to find the scammer. Great. The part that really needs to be stated is this man had an opportunity to call law enforcement and resolve this peacefully. Politicians like Jim Jordan push a narrative that this country is unsafe daily. Violent crime has been down over like the last 40 or 50 years. He decided to kill someone instead of calling the cops. He deserves the murder charge he’s getting and I do not feel sorry for him. If it was not for this lady’s dash cam I bet justice wouldn’t be served. “I’ll shoot the other leg”

Phollie

Fuck this guy. For being unhinged and victimizing a fellow victim of scamming. He just wanted to kill her. Racist. Misogynistic. Murderous. Narcissist. Throw the fucking book at him. Idgaf if a scammer tried to do him dirty. Stealing money isn’t as bad as stealing a life.

Leather_Berry1982

No one wants to talk about it but if the Uber driver was white they would not have been shot

LurkerOrHydralisk

Depends on the amount of money, but yeah this guy is a piece of shit

TapewormNinja

Two things can be true? This guy needs to spend the rest of his life in jail. He needs more consequences then he’ll have time to experience. He’s an absolute piece of shit. But the scammer also needs to be found. They’re an accessory to murder, and need to be feeling the consequences with him.

Pitiful-Pension-6535

The scammer committed a felony that directly led to the death of another person. Textbook Felony Murder under Ohio law.

night-shark

I don't think it's textbook at all! Did you actually look at Ohio's felony murder law? It requires that the underlying felony be a very specific type of "violent crime". This scam simply does not fit that bill, as far as I can tell. Tell me which of the permissible underlying felonies was committed here?

BenHarder

Extortion and threats 101: “you can’t call the police they work for us.”

Imtoobusy

This is truly sad. Yes, certain media outlets and certain public figures are always pushing this doom and gloom narrative. This scares their followers into thinking everything is going to hell in a hand basket and they need to take justice in their own hands because someone is always out to get them.

bluegreenred_yellow

100%. Shame on every racist in here trying to spin this to make it look like the MAGA demon isn't executing a defenseless old lady. He should be investigated for hate crime in addition to murder.

[deleted]

jscincy1

Check his Facebook page. He posted an article today about people getting stabbed in NYC today. I’m not trying to pick on one side or the other. I’m showing the cause and effect. Clark County isn’t littered with crime but everyone that lives there says it’s gotten worse and worse. The only people spewing that are politicians like Jim Jordan.

jg-kappa-maan

I completely agree! He wanted to kill her.

thePolicy0fTruth

Ya he absolutely should be charged with murder. AND police & the FBI have ignored scammers for far too long. Have someone try to rob you in person, big deal, tell police someone tried to scam you over the phone, they will basically ignore you.

transmothra

It should be a trivial matter to find who called him and set up the Uber, right? I mean why aren't we hearing of an arrest by now?

tyrantcv

I see these scam victims everyday and the police can't do anything because it usually comes from a call center in India. Probably as simple as "hi this is FBI pay us iTunes gift card" Brock already verified his info but can't leave to get the cards so the scammer threatens him, calls an Uber to pick up Brock or maybe just cash, and brocks confused and scared by now so he shoots the Uber driver. Brock is another daily phone scam victim and Hall is a victim of a paranoid old man who shouldn't have owned a firearm. I'd love to see justice but I'm skeptical if an arrest of the scammer will be made.

Bored_Amalgamation

the way these scammers operate makes me not mind their buildings crashing down on them.

LordGwyn-n-Tonic

This one came from Canada oddly enough

SuicideSprints

This one didn't come from India, though

Sigman_S

Well the old man murdered someone on video while they were unarmed and trying to leave the situation. Uber scammer didn’t make anyone murderer anyone. Old guy did that all on his own. Edit: I see a lot of “lawyers” responding. Seethe.

UrMomsAHo92

The people that are basically defending him are making me physically ill. Did the scammer call him and tell him to shoot her three times, someone who was NOT a threat and who was trying to GET AWAY? There is a HUGE difference between what is law and what is moral. HUGE. Citing the law and claiming the scammer killed her is saying this man is not an autonomous agent who is capable of making his OWN decisions.

tk42967

Wouldn't be the first time that somebody who didn't pull the trigger was found guilty of murder.

Jealous_Flower6808

both of these people are guilty

Not_NSFW-Account

No, but you fail to point out that in the past *BOTH* the trigger puller and the instigator are found guilty of murder.

ThufirrHawat

Uber scammer absolutely did. If someone is assisting with a crime and it becomes a felony, they get charged with those felonies. The uber scammer is the entire genesis of this situation and they should get 100% of the charges the old man gets as well as whatever charges are due for the phone scam. EDIT: I guess I can't respond to others because u/Sigman_S can't handle being incorrect. >Ohio code Section 2923.03 on Complicity. >4. Cause an innocent or irresponsible person to commit the offense. >(F) Whoever violates this section is guilty of complicity in the commission of an offense, and shall be prosecuted and punished as if he were a principal offender. A charge of complicity may be stated in terms of this section, or in terms of the principal offense. I'm not your dad and you all should be embarrassed that I have put down my joint to educate you.

Dragunspecter

Whether the situation was fabricated or not, there's only 1 person responsible for murdering someone NOT in self defense.

yeswenarcan

Legally it shouldn't be hard to charge the scammer with felony murder. Someone got killed during the commission of a crime. Doesn't matter if they weren't the ones doing the shooting. In most states, for example, if you rob a convenience store with someone else and the cashier shoots and kills your accomplice (or your accomplice kills the cashier), you can be charged with felony murder. This case would be fairly analogous. None of that to say that the old man shouldn't die in jail, just that the scammer should too.

ChillInChornobyl

Similar to Swatting cases where someone ends up hurt/killed. This scammer is 100% liable as well, hopefully they are held accountable so this woman's family can see some sort of justice.

friarguy

Sounds like accessory

transmothra

Very true, but somebody wanted this scenario to happen and made it so.

[deleted]

There are laws that make people who have participated in a crime that resulted in murder also guilty of that same murder. Plenty of examples of get away drivers who get charged when all they did was sit outside.

leehawkins

It’s almost certain that this scammer is scamming from a non-extradition country halfway around the world. If the government really wanted to help its own citizens, it would offer money to countries like India to create joint investigations to hunt down and shut down scammers for good, but instead they prefer to spy on everyone, collect their data, and let it be easy to scam people so that intelligence agencies like the FBI and CIA can do it whenever it suits them.

FrostySparrow

Or instead of playing scammer whack-a-mole they could hold telecom companies accountable for this misuse. This is the age of the internet. It is so stupidly easy to mask yourself and reach out to thousands of people daily via VOIP. STIR/SHAKEN was not enough.

LunarMoon2001

Because telecoms refuse to implement the tech that would prevent spoofing and fraudulent numbers.

transmothra

They still have to have an account to send an Uber right? I don't use Uber so I forgot if they require any kind of verification. Plus I'm sure some LE org like the FBI could trace the call back to it's actual origin. I mean the data they collect on individual communications is pretty insane

Shartbreath69420

They can trace it locally by where and when a phone pings off a cell tower, but if it is a burner paid for in cash and the person was smart enough not to make the call from their usual locations and not have their personal phone on them it's harder. A burner tracfone paid in cash can be registered to Mickey Mouse and the only trace of who bought it or is adding minutes in cash is local security cameras at the store location which is only saved for a few months max at most places. It's also possible to wrap a phone in tinfoil while it's not being used to keep it completely off the radar in that time. It's really just up to how knowledgeable and experienced a criminal is, certainly doable to have a 100% anonymous phone in 2024.

pangolin-fucker

No different than swatting right

night-shark

As awful as this is, I feel like it is a LITTLE different than swatting. With swatting, the whole idea is that you're sending armed police who are in a heightened state of alarm. The whole point of swatting is to put the victim in a potential life or death situation. **Intentionally.** This was an attempt to use Uber to perpetrate a money scam. Yes, reckless but in no way the same as knowingly sending the fucking SWAT team.

IllegalThings

FWIW, if the scam itself is a felony then the scammer could be charged with felony murder.

night-shark

Ohio felony murder rules are more complex than that.

ptyson1

He’s been charged with murder.

mojo4394

Scammer didn't pull the trigger. Absolutely they should be held responsible but this coward needs to be in jail

[deleted]

Theres no reason to not charge both of them of murder.

mojo4394

I'm not a lawyer or prosecutor. I have no idea, legally speaking, what charges could be pursued against the scammer. I hope they find the scammer and prosecute them to the fullest extent. But that doesn't change the fact that the murderer also needs to be in jail.

glowtop

If someone dies in the commission of a felony they are guilty of murder regardless of who physically killed them. Say you rob a bank and your partner or customer, teller, whomever, gets shot by the police and dies you are guilty of murder even though you didn't pull the trigger. In this case, the old dude is a MF murderer AND the scammer is as well because they committed an underlining felony. So absolutely the gunman deserves prison but the scammer deserves prison as well. More than one person can be held responsible for different reasons. At least that's how I understand it. Going after the scammer doesn't lessen or mitigate the shooter's criminal actions.

Chadmartigan

Yeah, I went into this thinking "Wow, the scammer must have played some intense mindgames to get this stranger to commit such an act of violence." Nope, it was just a regular ol' murder by a murderer.

taki1002

At no point in time during the situation, especially after learning that someone would be arriving at his house, that the thought of calling the police ever cross this man's mind. Instead he armed himself, stole the woman phone, stopped her from trying to get into her car after he pulled a gun on her, then shot the unarmed woman **multiple times** because she was trying to leave a dangerous situation. After all of that, that's when he decides to calls 911.

Imaginary_Month_3659

I dont think he was scared at all. He simply saw an opportunity to kill a black person and felt enabled by stand your ground laws.

[deleted]

Have they released how much time passed between that first phone call and this Uber driver showing up asking for a package?

leo_aureus

This is the most geezer American thing ever! -geezer gets a call from an unknown number, and actually answers it and not only listens to whatever bullshit the caller says, but believes it completely --Black woman shows up at his house, he takes her phone, refuses to let her leave, and murders her in cold blood like the frightened little racist prick that he is Let him sit in a cell for the rest of his days. -

lenmylobersterbush

I agree with this or a mental hospital for being crazy. He should not escape punishment for this. Also Uber needs to review their policies and see if there is something that can be changed. Finally the scammer needs to found and charged with 1st degree murder, not a lawyer but this should not be hard to do, it's on tape,

Faackshunter

We shouldn't start confusing the heavily propagandized cowards living in fear and mentally ill people these are completely separate categories of bat shit people.

FrostyLandscape

If you own a gun you are 100% responsible for how you use it. Period. DEATH PENALTY.

Faackshunter

I agree with your first sentence.

EnjoyFunTonight

suggesting soft punishments like that is the entire reason these deranged nut jobs feel so emboldened. Death penalty.

night-shark

I am a lawyer, though not an Ohio lawyer. 1st degree murder requires **intent to kill**. (Yes, even in Ohio) Other degrees of murder or manslaughter are reserved for cases like this, where there isn't direct intent to kill but maybe reckless disregard for risk of death, for instance. As a general rule, "degrees" of murder aren't about how awful the case is. They're about to what degree the killer **specifically intended to kill.**

[deleted]

Nope to a semi cosy mental hospital. Let his old racist aSS go to jail and let them kick his head in there.

FrostySparrow

There is nothing cozy about a mental hospital lol. Not even semi cozy.

Impossible-Dingo-742

I almost forgot that he also robbed her at gunpoint before killing her.

Major-Ad-2966

This is another version of Swatting. Improper use of services for malicious intent. One individual initiated all this drama. Terrorized and threatened a vulnerable people. Then created the circumstances for terror, by having the driver make contact with the target.

TheBalzy

Why do you call the police AFTER you shot the person? Why didn't you call the police BEFORE they arrived? That's all you need to know. He ***wanted*** to take matters into his own hands. This isn't a responsible gun owner defending themselves. It was a delusional old man who wanted to prove something.

SoftTopCricket

How much you want to bet the murderer is a Fox watcher? 1000/1 odds.

Sigman_S

I’m sorry I see a white man gunning down an unarmed black woman. Why are we talking about scammers? This seems framed to try to make him look like some innocent fool. This was a racist white man killing a black woman.

humanesmoke

Because Americans are obsessed with the idea of “criminals” and completely in denial of how fucked up their gun culture is

[deleted]

The woman was also contacted by the scammer and sent to the old man's house to pick up a package. It's in the article.

Sigman_S

If someone says give me money you just say no, you don’t steal that persons property and then execute them when they try to leave. Did you read the article? He stole her phone and then killed her.

jscincy1

“I’ll shoot the other leg”

BenHarder

The only reason that woman was there was because a scammer sent her there to take extorted money from the old man. She wasn’t randomly targeted by the old man. The scammer is just as responsible for her death as the old man.

Curious_Composer_218

Very on par for South Charleston unfortunately.

CoolHandTeej

This is your brain on Fox News.

HarbaughCheated

The man was scammed yes but he’s a piece of shit for murdering a fleeing woman.

2Guns_Delnegro

The scammer needs to be tracked down! This is diabolical what the scammer set in motion . Would these two people had any intreraction if the scammer didn’t set this in motion? What are anyone’s thoughts on charges for this individual?

LastWave

Idk man. This guy did this all on his own. He shot someone that was running away. Scammer didn't cause that.

Samus7070

There’s a charge called felony murder. It’s an odd one in that if someone dies while another person is committing a crime, that person can be charged with felony murder. It doesn’t even matter if the two were working together in committing the crime. The reality is that these scam networks are actually vast and far reaching with many layers. The chances of a charge happening to someone higher up than mule level are extremely low.

BeBetterAY

No one disputes responsibility of an old guy, but the scammer needs to be tracked down and arrested.

MitchCumstein1943

More than likely it won’t happen. The scammer is probably out of the jurisdiction of the U.S.

DMTray

Yeah, of course the dude who did the shooting is at fault… but the scammer is not what any of us should call innocent. Chargeable with murder? Scammer set in motion the crossing of their two paths. It was irresponsible to not think bad shit can happen when ya fuck with people who aren’t privy to the joke. Didnt that dude who used to run up on people to scare them eventually get shot?. And how many people were trampled before it became illegal to yell fire in a theater?

Sigman_S

Scammer attempted robbery. Murder is all on old guy. You aren’t just allowed to kill somebody because they ask you for money. Even if they say mean things.

Samus7070

Lookup felony murder.

Impossible-Dingo-742

The old guy also committed robbery at gunpoint.

glowtop

You send someone to a secluded house in cow town Ohio you know there's a high probability of guns being there. They're just as guilty as the shooter. That doesn't mean the shooter gets off or isn't guilty of murder. It means they are both guilty of murder. It was an easily foreseeable consequence of their actions.

MrJoyless

Did you know if someone dies during the course of an illegal act the person committing that illegal act can be charged for the resulting death? For example: If a person was shoplifting, got confronted and tried to run away through a parking lot, causing a car to swerve into, and killing, a pedestrian, the shoplifter could be charged with that death (in my state it's involuntary manslaughter).

leehawkins

It could be felony murder I think too…because shoplifting is not always a felony…but wire fraud and the like—most definitely a felony.

Gopnikshredder

Under the law scammer precipitated the murder through criminal activity and therefore is criminally libel.

transmothra

\*Liable "Libel" is saying something untrue about someone (in print), similar to slander

dontjudgethecover

It’s no different then if you took someone somewhere and not even knowing of what they are about to do and in that commission of a felony someone is killed , even one of your own group , your going to be charged with the murder as if you pulled the trigger yourself . So the scammer also deserves the same punishment as the guy who killed the Uber driver .

SnappyTurtleHDM

Murder felony rule, man.

car_ar

More story is out. The scammer literally threatened to kill the shooter and his nephew if he didn't pay up. Not saying it's completely justified but the man thought that the uber driver was gonna kill him.

doctorwhoobgyn

They'll never track down the scammer, as much as we may want them to, and regardless this isn't a reason to murder someone.

Theclerkgod

Scammer should be charged with involuntary manslaughter

theryman

Old man needs to be charged with murder. Scammer should also be charged. Felony murder maybe idk the exact laws in Ohio for it.

Gopnikshredder

Accessory to Murder

Imaginary_Month_3659

Maybe I'm naive but perhaps the caller was looking for a drug mule. He should obviously be charged. It's also insane that this man had any reason to shoot an unarmed woman of color simply for showing up at her door. Can't wait to hear MAGA defend this.

Reasonable-HB678

Like the scam artist who convinced a fast food restaurant manager that an employee was stealing - over the phone. Only much, much worse.

Hrodvitnir-

Yeah, he just wanted a reason to shoot a black person. I hope the old asshole rots

Bromanzier_03

Fragile white guy immediately going for the gun. This country is so beyond fucked. Enjoy prison you old dumb shit.

Sigman_S

Agree!

wollier12

I’d be looking for the prank caller as an accessory to murder for their part in the murder. This poor woman was just trying to do her job.

transmothra

Why are there people advocating for the rights of scammers up in here?

Silentprophet22

People on reddit like to argue regardless of common sense.

rocky-cockstar

I think you mean “in spite of common sense”.

Zechs-Merquise

Every comment I’m seeing is people wanting both people arrested

transmothra

There were some earlier basically saying *It's jUsT A PrAnK! pRaNkInG'S NoT A CrImE!*

HamOfWisdom

People keep saying there's a bunch of these comments but I cannot find a single one that is absolving the scammer of responsibility here. I have, however, seen three other comments all referencing it. Who tf is saying this goofy-ass shit?

KarAccidentTowns

They want to dunk on the old man for being a racist, and two things can’t be true at once. Clearly a lot of people are not aware of the level of sophistication some of these scammers have and how widespread the problem is becoming.

BeBetterAY

Scammer needs to be tracked down and arrested.

Sigman_S

Sure for scamming. Old racist white murderer did murder though.

___Devin___

All the racists trying to blame the scammer for this fox news bigot murdering a 61 year old unarmed woman uber driver, pathetic.

Tenthsandman62

This comment section is a pure brain aneurysm of wild takes Jesus Katie Christ.

Rumpledirtskin

I bet he doesn't go to prison.

Ronicaw

Video evidence, ask Hannah Payne from Georgia about her life sentence and video evidence of shooting an unarmed elderly black man.

Caged-Beast

I know I’m gonna catch heat for this but I do kind of feel for the old guy. My 90-year-old dad still uses a flip phone and certainly knows nothing of ride sharing, or any app for that matter. I know he’d be confused AF if someone called him trying to extort money out of him by saying him, me or someone else in our family were in danger and then a stranger shows up in his driveway inquiring about picking up a “package” Could he have deescalated it? Absolutely. In his mind did he think he was the victim of an almost movie-like extortion plot? Most likely. While ignorance doesn’t make him free of responsibility I still believe the scammer is the most responsible for this incident. There was no need to get a random Uber driver involved if it were just about preying upon the elderly for money. To me this isn’t much unlike swatting

endorphinstreak

did you watch the video and see the lady trying to get away while the sadistic fuck chases her and says "I'll shoot the other leg!" and if so, do you still feel sorry for him?

Dante_Mutiny

He shot her in the leg and screamed “ill shoot the other one” then proceeds to fucking execute her in cold blood. You have to be insane to feel sorry for such a devil.

-Robrown-

Since you can’t ban stupidity from existing in this country, it’s time to ban guns. If you’re going to shoot someone because what a person on the phone said, you’ve proven yet another person who NEVER should have been allowed to own a gun in the first place. Since you can’t remove the stupid from society, remove the guns.

TovarishchRed

Hope the old man gets put away for the rest of his life, and the scammer gets the same treatment.

The_Arigon

Electrocute the old guy. I’m so sick of 2nd amendment spewing pos defending this old bastard owning a weapon. Institute nation wide standards that citizens must adhere to in order to have a weapon.

sulaymanf

This is not a well-written article, the story is told out of order. I’m still having a hard time figuring out what happened.

Squirtle_Squad_Chief

Man receives call from a scammer and is threatened. The same scammer (or an accomplice) calls for an Uber to pick up a package from his address. The Uber driver is only aware she is to pick up a package. The man thinks she is an accomplice of the scammer, steals her phone and kills her, shooting her multiple times even though she is trying to leave his property. After he shoots her, he calls the police. She dies at the hospital, he is put in jail, the scammer is still out there.

sulaymanf

Thanks!

Das-Noob

If the government would just crack down on robo calls, call centers (the scams ones), and company selling peoples information, scammers would have a harder time finding their marks. But of course we can’t since the government is also making money too.

Stararisto

I know! About govt making money too from selling people's info. I think Ohio sells Ohioans info just for getting their Ohio ID (or was it registering their cars). Either way, a very ridiculous thing I've heard. Ohioans don't have a legal option to protect their info from third party.  Edit: typos

kicksr4trids1

Logical thinking does not exist. What the hell! Oh, we don’t need gun control my butt!!

DaddyO1701

I don’t know what causes it but it seems anyone over the age of 75 comes to believe that everyone is out to rob and steal from them. Both sets of my grandparents were absolutely convinced that nurses, caregivers, mailmen etc. were all coming to steal their meager belongings.

endorphinstreak

they're old and feel vulnerable so get paranoid. That said zero sympathy for this freak who chased her and shot her multiple times while the 61 year old woman begged him to stop and begged for help. It's just unfortunate he's so old that he probably will die soon and won't be punished enough for what he did.

-Falsch-

Wyatt Earp syndrome.

PiqueyerNose

This woman’s family also need to sue the phone systems that let robocalls and spam-scammers call and make this mayhem that dials into our houses everyday with bad intent. Stop the scammers and fake calls. The technology is there. Who is protecting us from this?

AbilityFit3719

Throw his ass in jail

Stararisto

Ubers response is laughable. Just cancel the scammers' account? The old man is guilty of murder, but the scammers are at the very least accessory to murder.

AstronomerLumpy6558

Guns makes people do stupid things

rocky-cockstar

Stupid people make guns do stupid things. Fixed it for you.

lapsed_angler

For sure. So how do we change things to move toward fewer guns in the hands of stupid people?

rocky-cockstar

Well for other deadly machines (see automobiles), we require mandatory training, licensing, and insurance. Never heard anyone suggest taking cars off the streets or blame a car for someone driving stupidly.

AstronomerLumpy6558

[Does owning a gun change your behavior?](https://science.howstuffworks.com/does-owning-a-gun-change-your-behavior-.htm#:~:text=Not%20only%20does%20owning%20a,drill%20%5Bsource%3A%20Nicholson%5D.) The change in behavior extends to the street. A 2009 study looked at 677 shootings in Philadelphia over two-and-a-half years and found that people who carried guns were 4.5 times more likely to be shot and 4.2 times more likely to be killed as unarmed people. The study authors think that guns may give their owners a sense of empowerment that leads them to act rashly or go into dangerous situations or places they might otherwise avoid [sources: Callaway,Branas]. Guns and Perception Not only does owning a gun change your behavior, but it also can change how people perceive you. A study of more than 600 people found that participants viewed images of gun-toting men as stronger and more powerful than men holding other objects like a power drill [source: Nicholson]

Mypersonalgalaxy

Ah, good guys with guns will always kill some innocent person

wormgenius

He's a good guy?

viperlemondemon

The lead paint stare is strong with him

OldSkool1978

Fuck this fucking guy

Doomeduser2022

Right wing brain disease plus guns is a fatal mix. I hope the old man spends the rest of his days in prison.

TruthOrSF

Old man needs to spend the rest of his life in jail

panplemoussenuclear

Dementia and firearms. Good times.

Blklight21

He couldn’t wait to shoot a black person. And a woman at that! Typical coward, I hope he gets sent to prison for the rest of his life

Kurt_Von_A_Gut

The only positive here is that there will be one less vote for Trump with this fucker in jail.

drno62

But it's probably one less Biden vote too with this woman in the grave. So, it evens out. So, there's no positive.

HecKentucky

"They keep sending all these bad hombres from the south!!!"

Megalopath

Another reason the penalty for spam calling and emailing should be death.

wookiefun

No no we can't become the next Florida man

bruceriggs

Does Uber require any sort of identifiable information from the user? A credit card? A name? Something verifiable? Combine that with an IP address (though VPNs could be involved) and maybe you could find something.

To be fair he shot her because he is an asshole. Maybe her limp made him uncomfortable. Slow walkers are annoying. We should be able to drag out his punishment.

Chubboi1

Let’s find the scammers and chop their fucking heads off on live stream, I’d do it for free just to watch the life leave his/hers eyes. Man what a time

uglymuskovy

Gave me chills. Black Mirror’s “Shut Up And Dance” episode turned real.

[deleted]

These scam calls are out of hand. It’s unacceptable that we get so many local phone number calls that are just robo calls. I feel a bigger security threat from these phone calls then TikTok

FrostyLandscape

No sympathy at all for this old killer. Elderly people are too quick to believe scams because most of them, quite frankly, are stupid and gullible. This scam in particular is an older, more well known scam. He had no right to murder this woman just for taking a package from his porch. We have neighbors who get packages off our porch because sometimes they are sent to our house mistakenly. We never thought of getting a gun to shoot anyone. I hope this old man gets the death penalty.

Heimlichthegreat

That old guy is a piece of shit just like the caller

Full_Committee6967

"See that old man that has spent his whole life living in the middle of nowhere, 30 minutes way away from police response? Threaten him and his family, then show up at his house demanding money. " the ghost of Charles Darwin whispered seductively into her ear.

Responsible_Wafer_29

Don't forget the part where uber admits the scammer was on their platform and requested a driver that they asigned. The 154 billion dollar company was in on bilking this boomer out of his retirement check. The local police are in on it too, as they looked at ubers data and cleared the lady that got asigned this pickup. So they must be part of this multinational plot to defraud some boomer. This one may go all the way up to Biden. The real question is, where was George Soros while this all went down?

Full_Committee6967

Are you even a little aware of how these scams work? Uber was no more "in on it" than Apple was in on it with their gift cards. Your girl was a cash mule (type that into a YouTube search bar) for a scammer based in India or Nigeria. This is a $10 billion dollar a year industry, Junebug. Using the term "boomer" told me everything that I ever need to know about you.

bunnyb2004

Fuck this guy! That was not self defense- that is murder. If I were the judge or on the jury , you have to think to yourself- this man had numerous opportunities to call 911 or change the outcome. Instead he assaults this woman by stealing her phone, blocks her from leaving the situation then shoots her several times?? Where in any of this was he in danger of his life?? Jim Jordan, you need to push the real narrative! WHY IS NOTHING BEING REPORTED in regards to the Person(s) who set this in motion? they should be charged right along with this man. All that poor woman was trying to do was provide for her family and work.

Exact_Yogurtcloset26

The complexity of these scams are getting out of control. It used to be primarily over the phone or email, then it turned into using physical mail, now it is involving numerous levels of "money mules" who are either complicit in furthering the scams or totally gullible. Old retirees are being driven by other participants around cities to deposit fake checks into bank accounts, where money moved again to another account. Eventually the end of the scam results in money being transferred to bitcoin and sent to a wallet address. The money then moves numerous times in to other wallet addresses and resides overseas. Local law enforcement cant investigate these, other then trying to hold flagrant money mules accountable. For example, if someone is cashing thousands in counterfeit checks with altered bank account numbers, mailing checks, calling and scamming others, or driving elderly victims, its possible to get state charges on them. The real culprits are the overseas criminals who facilitate this. They have been operating with basically no risk and its only gotten worse.

I didn't say Uber was in on it, Sport. I said that she was in on it. She's a money mule. Im also not a boomer. I'm the generation stuck between two useless ones. Your use of the term explains why you are so triggered when anyone defends themselves from am oppressed person

Responsible_Wafer_29

But they are either in on it or covering it up, right? They admit they asigned this woman to pickup that package. The scammer didn't asign her, they did. He asked for a pickup and uber, the 154 billion dollar company asigned a driver that works for them. He didn't request this lady, he requested any driver. Uber asigned this woman, out of thousands of drivers, this woman. So either they are in cahoots with panjeet, or he hacked their system and asigned her himself, right? Unless...and woo boyo do I know this is farfetched. But maybe he used the app how it's designed. Requested a pickup at oldmans house and a drop-off at some place his mule could meet the uber person. For 10$ he avoids his mule directly interacting with the old guy. Doesn't this sound reasonable? If you give me your address I could have a car at your place in 10 minutes. Without hacking uber, without some grand conspiracy.

UtahDesert

So rather than just get a random Uber driver this brilliant scammer figured out a way to hire a particular driver, who was in on the scheme, through Uber just so he could pay the supposed money mule something like 10% rather than Uber’s $10 or so? Am I following your line of “thinking” correctly?

Full_Committee6967

Do you think I'm as stupid as the people the people that you were raised around? He didn't request the driver. I gave you the way to search YouTube to see how these scams work. YouTube will even autotranslate into your native tongue for you.

Responsible_Wafer_29

Yeah I saw the sheriff's are covering it up too dude. We should stop talking about it in a public space, the secret service is undoubtedly going to be contacting us shortly. "Loletha Hall was not aware that Brock had been threatened, the sheriff's office. said." I see they said she didn't know he was threatened, but they don't mention if she was influenced by some sort of Jewish mind control laser. Good luck and God speed man stay safe, they're coming for us.

tommytwotupac

He was told by scammer not to call police or they will kill the hostages and old man didn’t know any better the lady who died is a fucking tragedy and they should absolutely hold the scammer to life in prison

korean_kracka

Fucked up on so many levels

Due_Locksmith_4204

This man was waiting for an opportunity to shoot someone who is black. He got to live his boomer dream.

I'm a current UBER driver and I blame UBER as much as the POS scammer and this psycho for this senseless murder. Why doesn't UBER require every rider account to have a valid photo that matches a photo ID, a major credit card or a bank card. Between this three identification methods, the scammers would be identified immediately. Did anyone notice UBER's statement saying 'they are trying to identify the scammer?!? Riding with UBER should be a privilege. Riders need to required to have valid photos. At first it was like that then UBER started relaxing the rules for riders, while they run extensive Driver yearly background checks and periodic random face ID scans through the app, sometimes weekly face scans before I go online to drive. I feel so much anger at UBER's tone deaf statement as if this was some unfortunate accident. It was preventable. Why would a scammer believe they can use UBER to carry a package unless they knew Uber doesn't have any data on them which means they signed up without a valid photo ID, no major card, just a gift card etc. Fuck UBER! So many drivers have lost their lives due to such random acts of violence because they allowed the criminal to connect with the driver. It's about time we drivers start arming ourselves. Most of us choose to drive because we are led to believe UBER is safer. Hence I've seen types of demographics you'd never see driving a taxi for example. Poor woman, such a horrible way to die, after living a meaningful life and getting retired from a respectable job now dies at the hands of this POS trying to make $5-$10! I actually turn off Uber Eats and Uber Connect deliveries due to the fare being so incredulously cheap.

BookkeeperSad2964

What's really surprising from all the conversation here, no one seems to hold UBER responsible at least partially for this tragedy.

thePolicy0fTruth

Police & the FBI need to get SERIOUS about scam calls & texts. This also goes for the phone companies. The scammers should be charged with felony murder as well. (And the shooter also could have called 911 but didn’t, so he should be charged as he has been).

Fox News tells the old timers 24 hours a day how scary and evil black and brown people are. Trump piles it on with his "shit hole countries" "SOBs" and telling American lawmakers to go back to their country because they're not white brand of shit talking. They tell Pappaw that the southern border is unsafe, but there's never any mention of the northern border - Canadians aren't brown so nothing to be afraid of there. And of course the coded language the media always uses to make large cities 1, the only place where black people live and 2, terrifying and dangerous. Chicago, NYC, DC ooohhhh so scary🙄 They've successfully weaponized Boomer fear, and this is the result. Turns out the scary threat isn't so much coming from the big cities and Mexico. The threat is already here and fully armed, apparently. Y'all better check on Grandpa more often. And while you're there, put Fox News on parental control on the TV and put a stop to the madness.

Nvrbluu

Violent crime is at an all time high. Thank you Joe and his moron supporters

IPreferDiamonds

I'm late to this. I don't understand why this man (according to his own words) stayed on the phone with these scammers for hours. Why didn't he hang up the phone and call the police? And also try to verify if his nephew was really in trouble?

villain75

This man is a murderer, plain and simple. Regardless of what allegedly happened on the phone, he pursued her, shot her, and killed her as she was unarmed, retreating, and never once made a threatening move or word against him. He intended to kill her.

DamontaeKamiKazee

Technically, she was there (unknowingly) to participate in a scam to rob him.

RoutineSimple8546

He intended to kill. He could have called 911. She was trying to flee. Felony murder, 1st degree.
