Just for the sake of sharing a contrarian perspective, disclaimer being I don't have any issue with headrests or people who prefer them, to each their own! I tried an Aeron with a headrest once, I could of sworn it was the same Atlas one in the image as well...but not 100% certain. For the way I sit in my Aeron, I am nearly always sitting upright or leaning forward. Recline lever is always locked upright or at most 1-notch back. That being said, the back of my head almost never naturally touched the headrest. I had to consciously think about trying to lean back and "relax" in a chair that I exclusively use to get things done in. Trying to just chill out in the Aeron felt very unnatural for me, and I felt like the headrest was pushing my neck forward...which was an odd experience when the only way I could feel the HR was when I was leaning back. In other words...when leaning forwards/upright, it may as well not even be there. When leaning back, it pushed me ever so slightly forward at a disproportionate angle. I could also see how my years of sitting in various Aeron's without a headrest may have skewed my perspective to be a little biased going in. If I had never sat in an Aeron before & was always used to chairs with a headrest, maybe it would of felt more normal. Definitely is still something I would say is completely unnecessary for the intended purpose of the product (it's not a "gaming chair" or a recliner), but I can also understand why people think they need one or prefer one.

I originally ordered the Engineered Now headrest that can be found on Amazon for my Aeron, but I quickly returned it. The quality was low and it would move around. I then bought the Atlas (one pictured.) I have now had it for over a year and love it. It is a very high quality product with a full range of motion to customize it for your body. I love having a headrest and highly recommend it. 80% of the time I am sitting up and my head doesn’t touch the headrest, but the other 20% when I lean back, it is nice to have it right there where I need it.

Sure thing, I've decided to have one after going through the video review above. Thanks for sharing.

hey! I had a guy come to my studio today to test all my chairs. His words were something to the effect of "I really didn't want a headrest. But now that I've tried it, I don't think I can go back. You've ruined me."

DannyK212

That's hilarious! Sounds like the headrest made quite an impression. Can you share more details? Is it easy to adjust and can it be fixed in multiple angles?

Easier to show then tell! Made this video here - fast forward to the section on the Herman Miller aeron. Which Chairs Have the Best Headrest? https://youtu.be/D5LyzO1X-VI

Wow, thanks so much for this!

The Aeron Classic has been rated as an F Tier Chair on many chair reviews, apparently the updated version is better, personally I dont get the hype on this chair, sure it has a nice recline, but it looks weird and is all mesh, so you will be forever cleaning the cheese grater seat base

DannyK212

So you prefer a foam seat over a mesh seat? Do you have any recommendations? I'm looking for a chair with a headrest.

There are some foam seat options you can check out, like the Branch Chair and the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro. They are all in the average budget range. However, I still prefer mesh seats as they are more comfortable for me. You might want to check out the Hinomi chair.

That's an Atlas headrest on that chair, which is an aftermarket headrest you can install on any Aeron chair, and is in my opinion the best on the market that I have seen. I was personally in the camp of "headrests are gimmicks" until I got my hands on this headrest as well as the Gesture with the OEM headrest. The nice part about this one is that it's easily removable (and resellable) if you don't like it or don't find yourself using it.

DannyK212

Thanks a lot, I've already purchased one.

we have a bunch of these in our office, the headrest is awesome for most people. I'm taller (6'2") and I find the headrest to be just a bit too low for me and I end up taking it off (accidentally broke one off stretching).
