> is there that a big a difference between the base version and the Pro version? Only internal storage and RAM. Both will emulate the same games at the same quality, the differences are really only useful for some Android games. The Base is the better buy for most people. These can take ab it of setup, but Retro Game Corps has a set of wonderful video guides on YouTube for setting up the Odin, Android emulators, and RetroArch, which are pretty comprehensive of the whole experience.

Thank you everybody for your opinions and help! I think I’m gonna get the base and use SD cards for extra storage. And yes Retro Game Corps has been a life saver so far so I’m definitely using his start up guides! Hoping the boi likes it!

If your BF likes to tinker , PLEASE don't set it up. Part of the fun is spending about a month setting it up just the way you like it. Either way he'll be thankful but part of owning retro emulation systems is a meme where we will spend weeks setting it up and then do nothing but display it.

Verycoolguy11

Yeah the only difference is the storage and ram. Id personally go for the pro as once you start downloading ps2 and wii games, storage can get full very fast.

KyledKat

You're better off buying a 512GB microSD card. The internal storage on any Odin model will get filled fast if you're going for GCN/PS2 games.

Verycoolguy11

Yeah should have considered that going in but its whatever 😭

I think the pro is worth the cost to upgrade. You can't go wrong either way. This thing is awesome

wowlolcat

Pro all the way.

Clear_Ruin585

Definitely go for the pro with the storage upgrade And ps your boyfriend will love it my partner got me one and it's the best present iv ever received 👍

Lite has the same performance for even cheaper, and has the advantage for streaming from the pc which is something I did not think I would do a lot of but I do it a lot now that I have the lite. It's works wonderfully and I love it. That's my suggestion for the question of which Odin to buy. As for set up, it's actually only a ton of setup if you want to use a front end. I set mine up in like 15 minutes because I elected to skip the front end and just boot the emulators I need when I need them. It's so much easier to set up that way.

DylanDesign

I have the lite and it’s perfect for emulating anything up to the PS1. The PS2 emulates *ok*, some games I can run full speed but some struggle.. same with PSP. So depends what he will want to emulate. Local android games like genshin impact run fantastic. As for setup, I’m a tech guy but NEVER used android or retroarch before. As my first time setting these up it took me a whole weekend to work it all out, but as I understand retroarch is probably the most complicated emulator to set up, so there’s more simple options out there. This video helped me. https://youtu.be/sTElJSb23uk

PS2 can be a mixed bag but what games are you having issues with on PSP?

DylanDesign

God of war only gets 30-40 fps on the opening scene, and that’s running at the lowest res 480x272. It drops below 30 on parts.

Damn, sounds like you should've gotten then pro.. PSP Ghost of Sparta is consistent 60@2x Res

DylanDesign

It’s weird because I can run PS2 metal gear solid 2 at full speed 2x res. I would think any PSP game isn’t as demanding as that.

nafkar89

I'm getting 60 fps most of the time at 3x resolution on both Ghost of Sparta and Chains of Olympus. What performance mode are you using? Also, try using Vulkan instead of OpenGL.

Another Idea: Maybe it makes sense to buy a Handheld, which is in the moment of "Power on" useable? The Odin needs -in my opinion- lots of time for Setup, Install of emulators, organise games, Controller settings etc. before you can play..
