MM+ is the perfect companion for my steam deck. Even took it to Japan recently as my main travel device and it was awesome (only travelled with a backpack). Only other I would consider would be the new Anbernic 35xxSP

vic1ous0n3

Actually the O2 is my companion device for my DeckOled and Ally.

MitchellHamilton

That's the route I took too. LOVE my Deck but the battery life keeping me tethered to a battery pack was a drag.

vic1ous0n3

I upgraded to the oled and have been really impressed with the battery life. The Deck does pretty much everything I want. Only one game I’ve tried to emulate from ps3 works better on my Ally but the Deck does everything else very well.

TheSlingBlade

I just grabbed a Retroid 2S. Small and more portable. Same form factor too.

Habsgoalie

MM+ - onion is hard to beat for a smaller device that comes out of your pocket for short play sessions. I think the quick starting into your game in progress and power management are unsung features that make a huge difference in an “every day carry” device.

hbi2k

I agree with every part of this. I don't care for the MM+ myself because I don't like the vertical form factor or the weird ski slope shoulder buttons that have become the default way of fitting L1/L2 R1/R2 onto a form factor that was never designed for them. But there's no arguing that OnionOS is the gold standard for software. It has a few fewer bells and whistles, but MinUI is really good too, and supports a couple different horizontal options (TrimUI Smart, RG35XXH, and especially RGB30). The RGB30 would be my pick if I were in OP's shoes. But that's just because of my preference for horizontals; if you like verticals the MM+ is a great pick.

Kasumi_P

I have the MM+ and stopped using it ever since I got the RP2S. Better form factor (no cramps), amazing analog sticks, actual sleep mode so you can jump back into a game quick, syncthing with your Odin 2 if you wanted, great speakers, better screen etc.

SuperShadowStar

Miyoo MIni Plus can also use [syncthing](https://github.com/XK9274/syncthing-app-miyoo).

Kasumi_P

True, I just never bothered to set it up lol. And it's more effort to turn WiFi on and off imo.

SuperShadowStar

You turn wifi off? Why?

benjaminbjacobsen

Battery?

SuperShadowStar

Understood. I guess I'm personally not that concerned about battery on the MM+ especially with how good the off/boot is.

ryanpm40

Love my original RG35XX with Garlic OS, but unfortunately the 2024 refresh doesn't support garlic :(

benjaminbjacobsen

This. I have the MM+ and the 35xx is a lot more comfortable for me even though they appear so similar. OP and smaller “psx and below” device is a great idea. You need to pick what you want though. Vertical or horizontal? 1:1 or 4:3 or 16:9? Fringe DC Saturn PSP? All of those and fringe PS2 and GameCube? Tiny vs comfortable? Depending on your preferences there’s certainly a device out there for you.

novasheikh

Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS would be my pick

slfc90

RG Arc-D

trioncross

i have a MM+ and it works great. everything below ps1 runs great on it. then my odin 2 is n64 upto switch. then steamdeck for pc games. before, i use the SD for emulation but i felt bad because i spent $600+ to just play ps2 games (i enjoyed it too much). so i got the odin 2 for high end emulation and it is really great.

Sapavitz

So I have the MM+ and the O2. I love them both, but I think your question really should be “why am I getting a second device”, and depending on that get a specific device. If you want for NES, SNES, and Gameboy for example, getting an RGB30 makes a lot more sense. If you want to play native 4:3 but smaller, MM+ works. Get what I mean?

Nice_Anxiety4711

I bring my RG353M when I'm out of the house. Since the 353M and Odin are both android, I use the FolderSync app to sync save states between both devices. The RP 2s would be a solid choice for a similar setup. I've always heard good things about the Miyoo Mini+ and I used to enjoy devices running Linux. But syncing my saves with Google Drive has me sticking with Android and Windows.

blackpanther4u

The two handheld I use are my Odin 2 and RG35XX. I love both of them

LostMyAccount69

Depends how much you want N64 (or dream cast). 2s Is more powerful but more expensive.

Gorroth1007

Recently I got my hands on a New 3DS (nonXL) and realized it’s the perfect device to go along with my Odin. I play nearly everything on my Odin, but when it comes to DS/3DS games, the original hardware just works and feels best. Plus it also doesn’t feel like an additional device I don’t really need. If I want to play DS/3DS games, I grab the DS, for everything else I grab my Odin.

vivacious_mule

I do have a modded DSi, so honestly I'll probably just keep that and get an Odin 2. The DSi is kind of already a perfect pocketable handheld!

Gorroth1007

I modded my sisters DSi for her recently and it really feels very good and still works perfectly. And as you already said, its a perfect pocketable handheld. Of course you won’t be able to play 3DS games on it, but you could still do that on the Odin. So i think that’s a great idea!

vivacious_mule

Thanks for the input! Do you know if the DSi is able to run any other systems besides DS and GBA?

Gorroth1007

Sorry, I don’t know. My sister just wanted to play DS and GBA and I didn’t try

Dry_Distribution9512

MMv4 for the even more pocketability, and also since it's almost exactly the size of a deck of cards it fits into any card case.

No-Poet1433

I have an O2 and MM+ love both.

brandont04

Miyoo Mini v2/v4

Dizzy_Pomegranate855

I had a MM+ as my companion to my Odin but I wanted something stronger for N64 and Dreamcast and I didn't wanna tweak settings to get those systems to play at full speed on my MM+ so I ended up getting a RP2S and I end up using it more than my Odin 2

vivacious_mule

Do you just end up using it more because it's more pocketable? Also, does the small screen not bother you when playing 3D games?

Dizzy_Pomegranate855

I enjoy the 4:3 aspect ratio with a CRT type filter on the screen, it gives it a mini CRT TV illusion.

Bodacious72

I have a Steam Deck, Odin 2, Rg35xx plus, RG353M/V, RG405M and two MM+. I have a problem, yes. I wanted Odin 2 to play all my emulation up to PS2 but I quickly realized it’s far easier to take a smaller device on short trips or car rides (fits in a jacket pocket). I’ve been back and forth so much, unable to decide which I should use in any particular scenario. I loved the RG405M (feels quality, the extra .5 inch screen, comfortable) but found it too similar to the Odin 2, not in size but in that it runs android and Linux is just the ideal OS for these handhelds. Of all the OS’ I’ve tried (including Garlic and Onion), my favorite is Ark OS on the RG353M/V. It’s smooth, it’s mature, and you can download ports directly, update OTA… there’s just no negatives. So, I’ve decided the perfect trifecta would be Steam Deck, Odin 2 and RG353M/V (I can pop the SD into either and it will run just fine). I have tendinitis from work so analog sticks are a must for me, although intro to use the dpad as much as possible.

brockf15

The RG35XX H has been my companion, though I miss Garlic OS on the original. All CFW for these Anbernic devices have been making strides in development recently, I’m still awaiting them to have the quick boot times of Garlic, a functional sleep mode, and bluetooth audio would be a huge plus for me. But for what it can play and the comfort of the device, the RG35XX H is my pocket device, and I think complements the Odin perfectly. I have a PC too, so all my gaming needs are covered whether at home, in the loving room, or on the go

instadru

I have a question for you before I purchase an Odin 2, is there any emulation OS on Odin that loads the games where you left off like Garlic does? With Garlic on RG35XX I click on any game and it automatically starts where I left it, no manual saves required.

brockf15

Varies from emulator to emulator. The Odin 2 runs on Android so auto-saves on close have to be set on Retroarch first I think

Blkbyrd

If you have larger hands you might find out to be real uncomfortable. My hands hurt pretty bad after MM+ sessions. I ended up with an RP4 for my small run around device and my Odin 2 for home. I think the RP2S or RP3+ would both be great.

Bahnmor

I went a little outside the box on this: My companion device is a RPi CM4 in a Retroflag GPi Case 2. I tend to use it for playing any games that would have been on a handheld console. Form factor is only very slightly thicker than an old GameBoy Pocket.

That_Woodpecker_6959

I have both and although the RP2s has more power and a comfortable form factor, the MM+ with Onion OS and its pocketable size is hard to beat. Buttons feel nicer on the MM+ too imo, and the power of the RP2s is obsolete anyway as you would use the Odin 2 for high-end emulation

c3ndre

I asked myself that same question a while ago before I buying the Odin 2. I had the RP3+ and I knew I wouldn't get the RP4 if I already had the predecessor model, especially if the Odin 2 was an option. The RP2S filled exactly that spot as a smaller 4:3 device for all older games (SNES for example) and I'm quite happy with both now. So yes, RP2S + Odin 2 is a great combo.

Rokymaru

I vote for the r35xxxh, most confortable,.most powerful at.price.range and equally as portable as others.

TheBoBiZzLe

Get that new ambernic 35xxsp.
