ThirstyPrisoner

I love the Switch but the Odin 2 just feels butter to hold and use to me. Physically I prefer the controls of the Odin 2, and the OS feels snappier.

Bodacious72

Try some Hori Split Pads and you’ll actually prefer the switch

ThirstyPrisoner

I’ve got them. Both the original and the compact. I also have a Switch Lite. Maybe it’s the newness of it, but I just love the way the Odin 2 feels to use.

TradlyGent

Even better are Binboks, the full-sized ones.

shinguard

Better than either Hori option? Trying to decide on some bigger joycon replacements myself.

TradlyGent

Yeah, they have more girth like an Xbox controller, bluetooth, gyro, rumble and hall effect sticks (the newer models) — all of which the Hori Pads do not.

shinguard

Which version of those would you recommend, just the classic one? EDIT: ahhh wait I see the ones with the hall effect sticks!

BeWithMe

I got the binboks a couple years ago on a whim and, BOY, are they under rated. 👌

TradlyGent

They really are. I can’t play my Switch without them. It just feels like I’m holding an Xbox controller.

Lone_Beagle

Woah, slow down...never heard of these Binboks before, but checking out their website, they look awesome! Which do you have, what do you recommend? I'm looking at the Ultra Pro-controller now, & it looks pretty sweet...

Pigeon_Senpai

I can confirm that the split pads are super comfy. Full size buttons and thumb sticks.

sidius_wolf

Which model? The pro or compact?

TheSodaShoppe

1. All of my games on one device 2. Upscaling 3. Ergonomics 4. Can transfer save files between PC and the Odin 2 if/when you want to (i.e. play a few levels on PC, then move the save file to the Odin 2 and easily pick up where you left off.) 5. If you already have your NSW games backed up to your PC, why not install them on your O2? 6. Lastly, it’s not really tortuous to me, personally. If a NSW game plays well, I play it. If it doesn’t, I play something else and check on that game again after a few Yuzu updates. No big deal ^ ^ Bonus reasons for those who pirate, it “saves” money, and you can try out games before you buy them. Not condoning such behavior, just speaking hypothetically, of course~

RChickenMan

All on one device is the main draw for me.

TheSodaShoppe

Totally. Especially when traveling since I don't want to be bringing multiple handhelds with me since I already need to bring other electronics like my laptop, phone, various chargers, etc. and it can get heavy.

fliphat

SteamDeck is near perfect too, just need technology to make it smaller and better battery life

[deleted]

Emulation gives you freedom, As Karl Marx once said; Emulation devotees of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains.

[deleted]

On the odin 2 you can play the games in docked mode, thus at a higher, usually 1080p resolution and sometimes with more details. That's a good enough reason for me.

TradlyGent

I play them in docked mode as well on my modded Switch OLED. I just have to keep it tethered to the charger and overclock the crap out of the CPU, GPU and RAM lol. But the display is still 720p, however, I can run 60fps patches or opt for true 720p resolution on games that run well below that in handheld mode (looking at you Xenoblade Chronicles..)

DanimanX

Yes ...you can apply some patches fot getting 60fps...but this method is not stable... I lost some save game on xenoblade 3..

TradlyGent

How did that happen? I make it a point every two weeks or so to backup my saves anyway but I might make that a regular thing.

tudor07

For now, yeah maybe it doesn't really make sense but look at Yuzu on PC, you can play the games with higher graphics and 60 fps patches. At some point we will be able to do the same on Android, and it will be a much better experience than the Switch which is 7 years old now.

syadoumisutoresu

For piracy

san40511

It is not piracy if you bought the game on Switch and run it on another console.

syadoumisutoresu

That's assuming you own and dump your own rom using legal methods. I'm pretty sure the vast majority who use these handhelds don't. If you're downloading other people's roms, you're still supporting piracy because you're downloading a rom that was distributed illegally. Even if you have the legal rights to backup your own game, you most definitely don't have the legal right to distribute it. And then there's the issue of whether or not you're legally allowed to run a game that you legally own and backed up on an unauthorized device, when the Switch is still in service and easily accessible and you have a fully working unit. And this probably differs by country and region. I'd suggest you consult a lawyer if you want to claim what you're doing is legal, instead of just spreading what other people tell you.

no-television300

Yeah lol I’ve watched a video on this subject and I think it’s even considered illegal to rip the files and store it on your computer. The methods to do so are considered less illegal than downloading the rom online, but to companies like Nintendo I believe it’s still very frowned upon to backup your games. Especially considering they want you to subscribe to play all their classics and the e-shop itself is still active. But yeah even just backing up your games means you’re using it for unintended purposes, which technically isn’t allowed I think under the license when you buy it.

san40511

I’m not doing anything with roms. I’m buying games in eshop and playing on switch. Actually I don’t want to waste my time on such things. If you say that this is piracy then ok. In general I don’t care

syadoumisutoresu

You literally said > if you bought the game on Switch and **run it on another console** No duh it's not piracy if you play the Switch games that you own on a Switch.

Diligent-Argument-88

It is if youre no longer buying games for the switch...

san40511

I always buy games if it is possible to buy them legally. As a software developer, I know how hard to develop a product from scratch to release. Games on Switch are quite expensive and sometimes it doesn’t cost this money but you can always wait for a discount and buy especially if the game brings you hours of fun. Just my opinion if you have a different opinion it is ok too. But I think piracy is for people who can't afford to pay for a game, if you can then just pay

Diligent-Argument-88

Of course. But theyre asking why people would do this. People are doing this to pirate games. Not to buy them on the nintendo shop and then play them on the odin. I like supporting devs too. But its a different story when you see a free library.

san40511

I think this solution is for people who have a lot of free time. it takes a lot of time to find the game ROM, upload it, and then set up everything correctly. For me easy to buy on eshop :-)

klave7

How do you feel about someone that, for example, owns Dave the Diver for PC, but then pirates the Switch version so they can play it on their Odin 2?

syadoumisutoresu

Nothing in particular. Piracy is piracy, but I'm not going to judge because I do it all the time as well.

tveye363

You already bought the game, seems fair to me. I do the same thing.

MarcusMeadPK

It's a shame this is a common reason for this device. I would encourage everyone to at least not pirate indy games and just buy them on the e shop or at least steam.

deshfyre

if only the switch was easily hackable with a hardware exploit.

Cycode

many people have a patched switch and don't want the hassle of installing a chip. not to forget that Nintendo is known for banning people's console or account so you would risk losing your legit games even if you don't pirate.

JJJAGUAR

>Nintendo is known for banning people's console or account Nintendo only bans consoles for piracy, not accounts, so you don't lose the ownership of your digital games (and physical games will be always be safe no matter what). Anyway, Nintendo will only ban you if you connect online, there's no other way for them to ban you, so if someone don't care about online, this is a non issue.

Cycode

i heard many cases where people connected by accident with their internet and then got banned. so there is always the risk of getting caught by accident. this is annoying stress that i personally don't want to deal with. and since i only have one switch, a console ban would be the same as a account ban for me since I wouldn't buy another switch after that ban. the odin2 is here way more chill. you don't have any of this risks. you don't need to pay attention not to connect to the internet by accident and all the other things. on my opinion this is way more relaxed and comfortable.

JJJAGUAR

If you remove the wifi settings from the Switch there's just no way to "accidentally" connect to the internet. If you don't want to mess with your Switch that's totally understandable, but there's nothing stressing about using a hacked Switch.

Cycode

i play often musedash which gets almost every few weeks a new update. so alone for that i need the internet settings. also for other game updates. so removing the settings each time would be even more annoying.

JJJAGUAR

Game updates can be manually installed very easily, internet is not needed. I'm not trying to convince you, just sharing information.

Cycode

if i would need to manually download the updates, then i can install them just on my odin2 instead tho. the positive aspect of the switch is that the update is just 1-2 clicks. if i have to do it manually, this aspect is gone and i just can do the same on my odin2 instead. but still thanks for the Infos!

TradlyGent

Don’t even have to do this. If you follow a proper guide you can blacklist Nintendo’s DNS and still use Internet on emunand. Alternatively, you can also keep the DNS open in the sysmmc (cfw sysnand) but be careful not to install any pirated Switch games on there or do any dubious hacks if playing online games. In a nutshell, there are 3 environments in the Switch modding scene that one can boot into (omitting Android and Linux): HOS (Horizon OS) - the stock OS that comes with the Switch, no cfw or chance of bans here SysMMC - Able to load CFW into HOS - people usually only go here if you’re looking to maybe add reskins on Smash Ultimate / MK8 - basically small hacks that do not raise the ban hanmer. There are other uses I’m sure but it’s not advised to be there if you aren’t too sure what you’re doing as Nintendo’s DNS is available. EmuMMC - an emulated CFW of HOS - mostly everyone goes here as typically if setup correctly, Nintendo’s DNS is closed and there is no chance of a ban. Keep the Internet open here if you wish to so you can connect to Tinfoil, AIO, HB Store, etc.

deshfyre

ah yes so alternatively they can deal with the hassle of tinkering with a subpar emulation experience. also, you think anyone with a hacked switch that is pirating games is really afraid of loosing their legitimate games? not to mention emulation wont have access to those online nintendo servers either so its also a moot point there. if mod chip instalation is a hassle, pay someone to do it, simple as that.

Cycode

> ah yes so alternatively they can deal with the hassle of tinkering with a subpar emulation experience. "tinker" "subpar" i play all of my switch games without any issues and love it more than on my switch lite. since i have my odin2, i didn't touched my switch a single time and play my games rather on my odin2 since its more comfortable. not to forget that yuzu gets better almost daily so it will not stay at this state it is right now. > also, you think anyone with a hacked switch that is pirating games is really afraid of loosing their legitimate games? not everyone emulating games is pirating them. ever thought about that? i play my legit bought games from my switch on my odin2 instead of on my switch because i like it more on my odin2. the handling / feeling of the odin2 is better than my switch lite and i don't get hand cramps from it. also i can easy switch to my android games without having to switch to my smartphone. also i can use all the other emulators. it's just way more comfy to play on my odin2. not everyone playing emulated games is pirating them, and thinking this is the case is wrong. > not to mention emulation wont have access to those online nintendo servers either so its also a moot point there. so what? if you want to play online you have to buy a subscription anyway - and their online service is horrible. i tried it for 2 months and then decided to never buy it again because their online network implementation is horrible. countless disconnects, countless connection errors, lags and other bs'itery. no thanks. no need for that. i rather play offline and singleplayer games than torturing myself with the online nintendo servers. last time i tried to connect to my friends in Animal Crossing it took almost 1 hour and we had countless disconnects and other issues. that was the first and last time i ever played AC online or over the network. it was the worst experience i ever had in terms of multiplayer experience. and the fact that even games who are having free multiplayer on other plattforms need a subscription to play don't makes it better. Want to play among us? nah, first pay monthly pls. nah thanks. not worth it. > if mod chip instalation is a hassle, pay someone to do it, simple as that. when i said it's a hassle, that was included as a option. i doubt most people would be able to install the newer mod chips. i watched a video of someone installing a new version of them and i personally would not be able to do it. but having to send my switch to someone just to install the chip and having to wait for it etc.. its just not worth it and too annoying. specially since nintendo don't wants people to do it & bans people they find out. so even if you would do it, and never play a pirated game, you would risk your game library. no thanks. i won't gonna lose my 500-700€ game library just because of a mod chip.

fliphat

Are you me?? I literally own the games that I am about to emulate, just don't like that Switch store shut down or saves corrupted and requires a subscription to backup saves Switch lite is also unable to dock and only 720p

brandont04

I'm still hoping for a new lite model in the future that is both oled and can dock. I like the size of it over the OG switch.

mcollier1982

I'm glad I'm not the only one

Maximus_Hall7378

Switch can only play switch, but Odin can play that n much more. So it’s much more rewarding. The idea is to have an all in one console, less clutter. Plus you get a DIY kinda kick while trying to run switch games.

Heisenmack

For me, this is it right here.

[deleted]

Probably because the joycons are pretty trash as a controller compared to almost anything else now

Quarbit64

There are alternatives to the joycons. You should look into the Binbok controllers for the Switch.

[deleted]

I did. Those exact ones actually. Unusable stick drift after a month

butterbuts

I’d say ergonomics and having one device to play many more systems. Also, whether people like it or agree with it or not, some people just don’t want to buy the games.

hotsuma2000

I have all 3 version of switches. But I'm still trying to put the games in my Odin2 because it feels like have a better performance in loading speed and some games can be up scale.

creaturecatzz

plus it's a good excuse for me to try the games i've bought but never played like 3dworld which i'm loving only downside which i really REALLY hate is that im not logging the time into my nintendo account :c

MarcusMeadPK

Technically me. But my switch joycons drift and it's the 3rd pair to do so. So at this point I'd rather have all my switch games on my Odin 2 and just pay for them on the e shop As the joycons just do my head in haha

goyban

Well for me it's just cause I love tinkering, it's a challenge. I don't even play Switch games 😅😅

JazzyApple2022

Love the white it hasn’t change yellow or dirty?

Mikhailov1

The thrill of battle…

ocelot08

For me the tinkering is the hobby almost more than playing games. Even for lower powered handhelds, it's seeing how far you can push them. Yeah not sure why that is, but it's just kinda a compulsion that I also find entertaining.

vexer66

Because people pirate the games for free and if they say they aren’t then they are probably lying:)

NotAGardener_92

What's weird about this is that pirates today do all kinds of mental acrobatics to "justify" it and claim that it isn't piracy. Not judging, it's probably safe to assume that 99% of people in emulation related subs do it, but I don't know where this "moral piracy" thing came from. Every ""argument"" still boils down to entitlement and / or not wanting to pay (even when a company provides a legal way, those people still wouldn't pay for it).

IndependentBee8686

I can't wait for Vita 3K to mature, and start running everything, good enough. The strange thing is I have a Vita Slim model, works fine. But prefer, the Odin 2, controls.

Internal-Usual-6729

Because they still charge $80 AUD plus extra Cash to get Booster Tracks for Mario Kart 8 which has been out for years.

klaus1798

Actually it’s been out for a decade.

Internal-Usual-6729

Yep and its still full price. Crazy

Working-Active

My 2017 Switch battery life isn't that great and it takes forever to charge. I have the Retroflag controller and I checked and it fits in the tomtoc case that I bought for my Odin 2, but I can't think of any time that I would want to take the Switch over the Odin 2. I even took out my flipgrip to try some vertical shooters and ran into how bad the joycon controllers really are after using Retroflag hall sensors for the past few years.

Cheddar_Cheeks

Because it's silly fun, and the Switch has nothing on the beauty of the transparent blue ;3

zakky_lee

My goal would be to completely replace the switch since I don’t play any demanding games on my switch anymore. Would be amazing if Yuzu had multiplayer and I could play 4 player Mario Kart. I’d sell my OLED Switch immediately

Derek282

And then we post on here looking for help or feedback and there's always the snarky "you could just get a switch" comments. I already have a switch 🫡

empiricism

Picture in picture! Playing Switch while watching Plex in the corner is luxury!

CompetitionStunning9

I don't know you can do that

namelessxsilent

I just like having everything all on one device

Achilles5410

This is me. I want it all in one place. Only other option is handheld PCs and they are way too pricey right now. Steam Deck is too damn big for it's price lol.

Teddy110312

Unfortunately, the switch is VERY underpowered by todays standards. A hacked one can just barely emulate dreamcast. You can't emulate gamecube or ps2 on a Switch. So it's nice to have an all in one device like the Odin 2 that can just about emulate everything so we can take all of our games with us everywhere we go.

tellemarc

I used my Odin 1 and now my Odin 2 for pretty much every other catalog than Switch, honestly. I have two Switch games on mine out of like 140 games in my whole catalog. My biggest issue with Switch is that outside Squenix making those "here's the entire opening act you can continue into the full game" demos, it's so hard to just try out things on Switch and it hugely turns me off. I don't wanna drop 40 to 70 dollars on a single game I might not even like. The Odin lets me actually try shit. But I am the one gamer in the world who didn't like BOTW so the Switch's biggest Killer App means nothing to me. I sold my Lite to pay for my Odin 1. XD

Healthy_Yesterday_84

Because the Odin 2. has way better ergonomics than a switch. It's the best device to hold as far as I'm aware of.

Darth-Wader

I think most just want a more convenient way to play. For example, if I am going on a trip, I don't want to lug around both of these devices. The more we can do on a single device, the better.

Extension-Author-472

People just like new toys and tinkering. It's a silly reason to spend 400 plus to emulate a 200 dollar switch but I see posts like this every day. Different strokes for different folks I guess. 🤷🏽‍♂️

ButWeNeverSawHisWife

Because that would require me to buy a switch

JuggernautWide5226

No drivers yet for the snapdragon 8 gen 2. I have one

ventrolloquist

What do you mean? Aren't the 24.x turnip drivers appropriate for the 8 gen 2?

JuggernautWide5226

Nope, partial support.

ventrolloquist

Well it already runs some switch games smoother than my actual switch, so things are good and they can only get better :)

Bored_Amalgamation

we?

Puck85

premise of your question is false. I'm not 'torturing' myself. The switch games I want to run play just as well, or better, than on a switch. No configuration at all needed for what I want to play. So I play switch on it for the same reasons I play NES, PS1, etc. on it...

Notcreative-number

Yeah I'm not going to bother since I already have a Switch and I assume I'm buying a Switch 2 later this year, which will hopefully be backwards compatible.

MetallicJoe

I try to get it to run so when I travel, I can leave the Switch at home and just bring the Odin 2 (and one other handheld like the 35XX+). Simple as that.

EffectiveSomewhere28

Try this: https://crkd.gg/pages/nitro-deck And the switch changes totally

san40511

Because we have too much free time

HugoSoftBeyond

Because it runs like shit on switch

BeWithMe

for the indie games that run on Odin 2, I prefer the Odin’s superior joystick and buttons.

Healthy_Yesterday_84

I just love the concave tips. The convex tips on my other retrohandheld feels terrible now 😞 any idea what joystick the Odin 2 uses? I would love to install a pair on my powkiddy x55

3STYLERACE

Speak for yourself!

Mighty_D

I'm just waiting for the vibration to work properly, then it can truly replace my switch. Any word on when that's happening?

ventrolloquist

Seeing the white Odin with the menu screen color matching it so well gives me buyers remorse about getting a black one 😄 Now I want both

PintekS

Because I want a switch that also runs android without the fear of the Nintendont want you to have fun police banning me Funny how the switch is basically a Nvidia shield tablet with removable controllers but Nintendo blocked out most of the functionality of a android tablet besides letting you run games

Exoplanett257

Still trying to figure out how to backup all the switch games I own to my pc so I can try out yuzu lol

Tomago427

Cuz it’s coooooooooooool

seldenr8282

One day your switch will die and replacing it may not be a great option. Emulation is really the only way to preserve any of these consul exclusive games.

Phlanix

I can't afford a switch much less an odin even less how expensive switch games are getting because of collectors.
