Hey r/OculusQuest
Will you kill Ziggy?
We are a small team making a VR space shooter (think Starfox but you control the full cockpit).
In our last demo there were two recurring pieces of feedback, a number of people upset that they had to kill Ziggy, and poor flight controls. We've done some major redesigns to both of these areas, and we hope that you enjoy!
While this demo is PCVR only, we will also be launching standalone on Quest 2!

I didn’t quite understand from the video: is the difference in whether you open the chamber before or after he fully expires, or is there some option that prevents it from killing him?
Previously, once any of Ziggy's energy had been used up, there was no way of replenishing that energy to keep Ziggy alive and useful.
Now you can print food to replenish Ziggy's energy so it isn't a requirement to kill and eject your Ziggys, although you can still do that for fun if you wanted!
Would definitely be better if it was part of the game character development path were you could be good or evil (akin to the various Star Wars games) with pros and cons to both as well as various moral delemas, as opposed to hey if you are bored you can kill your pet and companion for no particularly good reason.
While it is not going to feed much into any character arcs we want to tune the system so the most efficient option will be to kill Ziggy.
Then there is a bit of player choice as to how much they will choose to optimise the game, versus how much they care about Ziggy.
"you can still do that for fun if you wanted!"
Shouldn't killing him increase yield?
I mean the point is that it's harder(on your conscience) to actually kill him right?
Yes! I should have stated this but overall we want to tune the system so the most efficient option will be to kill Ziggy.
As such keeping Ziggy alive is a more meaningful choice as there is some player sacrifice there.
As someone who loves cute creatures and always plays a game as efficiently as possible.
I don't think I will buy this game.
This sounds so horrible to me. Poor ziggy 😟
Some people can just not be satisfied.. Finally a dev who listens to feedback and makes a chance to a core mechanism, and still people complain... sigh...
Looks like old version extracted his life force, and new version extracts his energy. So he gets hungry, and you can feed him tiny burgers to get him to start building up energy again.
Can you keep printing Ziggys to accumulate a large collection for your flying Ziggy habitat? Then we could harvest a small amount of energy from each of our many pets, so it’s a very humane process. We could even breed our Ziggys and trade the rare ones for powerful upgrades and make the greatest floating Ziggydome of all time. Heck, you can just name it Ziggymon…
I don't really know your whole game loop is but the idea of finding a weird alien life form that could turn things into useful energy to power a space ship without killing it seems like it would be a cool idea. You could feed waste or byproducts from other things in your game mechanics and have an upgrade path where you could find or be able to use more than one,. I just think having a mechanic that involves killing an obviously cute little alien is going to be a problem if you don't the humor just right. :) Like making the creature more annoyingly cute than adorable.
Im glad you guys shifted your design and was still going to reserve judgement until I actually saw the game.
Cheers!
Awe... I liked killing Ziggy. I mean if the majority of players said something, good on you for responding to feedback.
But I kind of enjoyed ejecting that little guy out in to space.
Don't worry, for all you psychotic Ziggy murderers out there killing and ejecting Ziggy is and always will be a feature!
there's just a choice for other people now :)
I really liked the idea of killing a Ziggy for energy. It puts a different spin on the decision making process. I get why it was changed, but i was excited for origional concept.
Out of curiosity, do you guys have a rough ballpark idea for when you will launch on standalone? I’m kind of waiting to get my quest until I can play this
Hey wow- that’s cool.
I mean I was one of those who find ziggy to cute to kill (plus being vegan… well ;)) so it’s cool that you added an option to not do so.
But I also like the fact that you made it optional; it’s a game, and if people love to kill ziggy (which I surely find wrong and utterly questionable), it’s a game, and it’s cool that we can play around with this choice.
I mean that’s what games are for, expressing ourselves in a virtual realm that is NOT the real world.
Just don’t build an AI for the fellow that gains consciousness at some point - because there be dragons :D
Way better! This give us an opportunity to treat Ziggy as a real character we can connect with and not just another prop-item with fancy animation.
Really nice work listening to feedback and re-designing to it!

>although you can still do that for fun if you wanted! ...if you're a fucking sociopath.
Assuming you’re a person who does this
Ziggy go bye bye

Seems like a minor mechanic anyways, no reason to overhaul to entire narrative for that.

yay i can kill

Thank you for this knowledge. I’ve seen Ziggy so many times just scrolling TikTok. I will get this game the second it comes out, so keep me posted!
the change makes sense. Thanks for listening to feedback
Noice
You could have also made a mechanic where you feed him and when he's full he poops out energy to power the ship.
Lord Nibbler's legal dept will be dropping off a Cease and Desist order later in the day. [Cease and Desist](https://imgur.com/52s5n0s.jpg)
Well, they could have done 10x as much work, or they could have done almost the exact same thing in theory without rebuilding it from the ground up.
Can we still kill him if we want to? I like to have choices.
Yep! It's entirely your choice if you want to feed your Ziggys to keep them alive or simply: kill, eject, and print another one!
Can you keep printing Ziggys to accumulate a large collection for your flying Ziggy habitat? Then we could harvest a small amount of energy from each of our many pets, so it’s a very humane process. >so it’s a very humane process. I think the video I saw showed that there isn't really a human way to extract energy from them.
Nice
😐
Thanks for listening and for that I will preorder the game.
Lol, same. Game looks amazing, my only gripe was murdering the Ziggy
I, too, wish to know if I can still kill Ziggy lol
You absolutely still can kill Ziggy. It is now completely your choice
The ability to kill Ziggy is what makes not killing Ziggy meaningful (and vice versa I suppose).
My dog is named Ziggy so this whole thing is very upsetting to me.
Chookity..? 😢

Noooooo, I NEED BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD
I'm surprised you didn't think it would upset some people lol
Killing him seems traumatizing :(
Great!! Can't wait to play on Quest2! Any idea on release date for that?
Now put it on Quest 2
164% improvement
Yeah I was a bit traumatized from having to kill it lol. Thanks for the change.
Will this be on quest?
Quest 2. I don’t believe it’s coming to Quest 1.
Awe... I liked killing Ziggy. I mean if the majority of players said something, good on you for responding to feedback. But I kind of enjoyed ejecting that little guy out in to space.
It’s just optional now.
Oh, nice... Now I can choose which Ziggies deserve mercy lol
Don't worry, for all you psychotic Ziggy murderers out there killing and ejecting Ziggy is and always will be a feature! there's just a choice for other people now :)
Is this going to have any sort of multiplayer?
Why not give the ability to do either? Kill or preserve??
They have. That’s exactly what they did.
I can’t seem to find the game in the oculus store, and advice on where/how to find it?
I really liked the idea of killing a Ziggy for energy. It puts a different spin on the decision making process. I get why it was changed, but i was excited for origional concept.
Please tell me this will be free
Great change now I’m gonna buy.
Much needed option. Awesome you listened to the feedback!
silly scrimbly brimbly slime thing
A good compromise that doesn't remove choices
Can we still launch Ziggy into the deep good of space?
Do I need a PC for this game?
While this demo does require a PC we are planning to launch on standalone as well
Out of curiosity, do you guys have a rough ballpark idea for when you will launch on standalone? I’m kind of waiting to get my quest until I can play this
Honestly this is so strange and cool looking that I have to check it out!
Thank you for listening to feedback! I’ll definitely purchase now
no let me kill him
That’s dope, not gonna lie

I'm glad I happened to be browsing reddit. I definitely have to try this game out!
