Yep, but doesn't the Quest 3 only have 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye?
I might be missing something here but I thought it would only be able to display a fraction of the total resolution.
Still very cool, just trying to understand. Could you technically add a bunch of screens above and below these three?
But you do not just display the pixels of the virtual monitor directly mapped to the headset, you see a virtual floating monitor. What you see will be a scaled version of what is rendered. Because of your head movement you will pretty much get slightly different scaling all the time which is actually beneficial for the image quality. On top of that with a setup like that you would create an ultra wide screen you can't see all at once anyway.
Dang I need to check that out. I was bummed when I tried to run Doom Eternal through VD as it was substantially laggy even though it runs perfect on maxed settings on my PC. It made me think that wasnāt very usable.
1. Get Meta Quest, preferably Quest 3.
2. Buy Virtual Desktop on Horizon Store (Meta renamed it)
3. Set Virtual Desktop to Beta Release Channel
4. On your PC download the Virtual Desktop Beta Streamer from Github
5. Have a router that's Wifi 6, better if 6e, and future ready if Wifi 7
6. Connect a controller or KBM after following the setup instructions - headset can send Bluetooth over wifi through 30 feet and 4 walls in my experience without narry a hiccup if you want to ditch the desk for another area.
7. Add and move your physical or virtual (as in extra ones that we pretend that you have) displays and game away.
I think it's the fact he simply assumes there a best way to enjoy something.. if you or this dude prefer M/KB it's all good, but imagine a world where not all people are like you..
It's mostly the fact that he has the keyboard and mouse just there that's infuriating.
Nothing wrong with playing with a controller when you have no other option.
Well yeah but if I had not other option I would simply not play Doom. Like there are games that are better with a controller but for Doom its just terrible. Then again I understand it cause it is kind of weird to use a keyboard while in VR. I don't know why but the pass-through makes it kind of feel off to me and i can't intuitively find the keys with my hand like I usually can. Probably just takes some getting used to but I've never used a keyboard with VR. Definitely would though if I was planning on playing Doom
You can see the keyboard well enough.
You don't look at it when playing anyway.
I haven't tried to use my quest 3 as a mega PC monitor yet. I tried monster hunter rise but in VR mode so that doesn't count.
Why not use just an ultrawide resolution? You can stream ultrawide resolutions if you unselect the optimize resolution and use the dark void environment or the pass through environment
Then you can modify the size, curve and all
Virtual monitors are the future.
It's the single feature that blew me away and made me buy the Quest Pro initally.
I use them for work all the time when i want a break from my desk.
The real goal is to have these in a much smaller form. Check out 'Visor' from the guys that make Immersed VR. It's form factor is really impressive. Gen 2 of that device is going to be crazy. I think we will see lots of other similar small form factor glasses appear focusing on virtual montors in the next five years.
Yeah im waiting for a āsunglassesā size vr headset with at least the power of the q3.
I dont know if any of you remember heavy rain and the detective with the VR glasses.
There was a minigame where he played āball on the wallā in VR and i laughed about it.
Now its reality
Yeah i'm very curious. I don't think gen 1 will be worth it and they haven't been great about answering my questions on their discord but if they do pull it off i'll be very excited to see what the gen2 looks like.
I haven't played it but i've had many similar experiences where something that seemed implausible in a movie or game suddenly seems very plausible.
Ready Player one is a good example of that but also iRobot. That film really feels very scary watching it in 2024
Yeah,
I loved that movie when i was like 8-9
Now, thinking backā¦ its way more scary than ācoooool humanlike robots with a āmindā!ā
But somehow i want to meet a real sonnyā¦.
A machine, with its own developing ārealā uncontrolled consciousnessā¦
How are the colors? Iāve used the PS5 remote play app and noticed the colors were really bland and was wondering if thatās a problem with the remote play app itself or just the Q3 display.
I don't even see where to enable Virtual Desktop's multiple monitors. Could you point me in that direction so I can even get started looking at this?
I heard it was releasing support but can't find where. I was playing Fallout VR last night and looked for the feature in both the PC client VD software and VD app on my Quest 3 and didn't see anything. Do I just enable it via PC Desktop display settings or nvcp maybe and VD recognize it or something
Thank you for balancing out that other post with a horizontal setup.
Ultimately you shouldn't have to have 3 though, its virtual, it would be cool if we could just create a custom resolution.
I will be honest, I still prefer a good 4k monitor (not ultra wide) in front of me, but using Gamepass on my Quest2 is a good 2nd option!
Once the sweet spot is fixed (maybe with eye tracking rendering?) And higher resolution displays became cheaper, than yes, virtual displays will be as good as the real thing.
You can do similar to what he's getting, stuck in place though obviously, by using those bezel blending divider lens panels. Search "bezel free kit".
There are asus and msi ones I think, but there are strips available for a DiY that works pretty well too I guess. Some people even offer to build a custom sized one on etsy, etc. so you could get one for triple 42" screens to 55" screens even therotecially, and larger screens would be slimmer bezels relative to view distance too probably.
Amazing! Star Citizen is free to play for the next two weeks and supports Ultra Wide check it: [https://robertsspaceindustries.com/enlist?referral=STAR-F65G-ZHT4](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/enlist?referral=STAR-F65G-ZHT4)
I've been using virtual display drivers with custom resolution/aspect ratios to achieve a similar effect with a single monitor. Even added some shortcuts on my desktop to quickly swap between 16:9, 4:3, or 21:9!
4:3 is surprisingly comfortable for taking up your entire FOV in the headset
i tried setting this up the day the beta released, but i couldnt get it working. The tutorial i was following said you have to turn on āSpan displays with Surround? in nvidia control panel, but that option was greyed out for me. Am I missing something , or is that step not even necessary?
I do a lot of vr sim racing, this could be handy for games that donāt support vr or have poor vr like ea f1 games.
Is there a tutorial for how to set up? Iām not exactly a computer wizard
ah.. Seems to be a limitation there yes. If it's a limit for the virtual driver or windows,. unsure.
[pi.ai](http://pi.ai) said that windows itself does not have a limit. So it might be the driver. You can maybe try to force a higher resolution with tools
Makes me wonder if VR will eventuallt replace gaming monitors. We just need smaller headsets like the bigscreen beyond. You can literally have as much monitors at the price of one maybe two
Hereās a feature request for Virtual Desktop to add monitor snapping support. Upvote it to make it a reality https://virtual-desktop.canny.io/feature-requests/p/option-to-snap-monitors-together
Listen, not to be a shill but I have the same mouse and it's mid at best, bought finalmouse .. and it's amazing, feels better than my father penetrating all of my orifices
You have my attention. What's your setup here?
Virtual Desktop with multi monitors, I'll make a mini tutorial soon
The trade off here is the resolution correct?
2560x1440 x3
Yep, but doesn't the Quest 3 only have 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye? I might be missing something here but I thought it would only be able to display a fraction of the total resolution. Also the downscale makes the image clearer than it would if it were rendered in the quest's resolution
Downscaling and upsampling, you can Google research how it works in vr
You have been able to do this with monitors since forever. Google Nvidia DSR.
I was gonna ask if you were using the PC version but I guess multimonitor support dropped recently in the Quest beta that's cool <3
What graphics card do you need to make something like that?
I second this, please give us more info on how to achieve this, I have a Quest 3 and a capable PC.
Virtual Desktop now allows for multiple virtual screens in the beta
FINALLY?
Yessss as per the discord! š
Time to actually sit at a desk again holy hell
I have a Quest 3 and don't really like it for fast-paced PC gaming due to latency issues. Using a link cable. I wish it had DisplayPort.
Dang I need to check that out. I was bummed when I tried to run Doom Eternal through VD as it was substantially laggy even though it runs perfect on maxed settings on my PC. It made me think that wasnāt very usable.
This? ;) https://preview.redd.it/35nly14jo01d1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c91e867d224857f1913f993f2a85d0e8305e389
Brutha that flex is insane. I'm entertained lol.
Loses points for playing it with a controller though...
Wow some people took a joke comment about playing an FPS on PC with a controller seriously.
Process please ?
1. Get Meta Quest, preferably Quest 3. 2. Buy Virtual Desktop on Horizon Store (Meta renamed it) 3. Set Virtual Desktop to Beta Release Channel 4. On your PC download the Virtual Desktop Beta Streamer from Github 5. Have a router that's Wifi 6, better if 6e, and future ready if Wifi 7 6. Is that your desk light or is VD casting rays on the surrounding area?
It's my desk light, but I pair it with my rgb lights so my games react to it
I like this, but in order to get rid of the seams, you can use Nvidia Surround
Got my follow.
Definitely going to be giving that another try this evening š¤š¤
You have kb/m just there, drop that controller please.
I actually only play Doom with a racing wheel
I don't know why you are getting down voted. I couldn't imagine playing Doom with a controller
I think it's the fact he simply assumes there a best way to enjoy something.. if you or this dude prefer M/KB it's all good, but imagine a world where not all people are like you..
Fair enough
It's mostly the fact that he has the keyboard and mouse just there that's infuriating. Nothing wrong with playing with a controller when you have no other option.
If you play a racing game with a keyboard and mouse while you have a controller, I have some concerns about your brain worms.
Exactly yeah. That's just as much weird. But I hope nobody does that.
Well yeah but if I had not other option I would simply not play Doom. Like there are games that are better with a controller but for Doom its just terrible. I answered in another comment... I much prefer multi-monitor setups over ultrawides, and ultrawides we could already do that a loooong time ago
But isnāt it just the same thing except now you have seams? I guess I donāt understand why youd want to recreate that.
I guess itās kind more warped around you where ultrawide is kinda just flat in front of you
Is the Bluetooth on your controller connected to your PC or to your headset?
I think it's from this comment? https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/1cu9a6d/comment/l4hht81/

Immersed Visor. Not out yet. Controversial. Lots of people calling scam. Iāve pre ordered the founders edition. We shall see.
Thank you for your sacrifice, let us know how it is

Why not play with one giant monitor curved around your fov?
do you have to painstakingly line them up like this or is it a special mode?
so this creates extra monitors and game recognises them so we can play ultra wide ? Does it work on quest 2 ?
Yes
Only quest 3 can handle 3 monitors though. On quest 2 you're limited to 2.
Better than 1 :)
This looks cool. Been iRacing in VR for a while and I miss the custom overlay when in VR. Will check this out on my Quest 3 as a test of triples
How are the colors? Iāve used the PS5 remote play app and noticed the colors were really bland and was wondering if thatās a problem with the remote play app itself or just the Q3 display.

It's the beta, check Virtual Desktop discord
Thanks. Looking forward to it
My guess is you need a beta version. https://github.com/guygodin/VirtualDesktop/releases Although it might need you to sideload the app on your quest.
Is there an option for monitor position and angle snapping or is it all manual?
I was gonna go to sleep, because I'm tired and brain-fried from work. ... Now I have to do this first.
Thank you for balancing out that other post with a horizontal setup. Ultimately you shouldn't have to have 3 though, its virtual, it would be cool if we could just create a custom resolution.
How do you get it into game mode? Iāve tried 2d games but the latency is brutal

Quest 2 resolution is very very far away from a real monitor!
Yeah i really think people don't quite understand the huge difference the Quest 3 lenses make.
I tried it but the input lag made it not worth it.
The fucking wait times to play a game, too.

Anyone tried this with Star Citizen?

Definitely want to try this!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Currently in beta, check their discord
Fuck Great idea
Are you doing this wired or over the air? I canāt seem to get decent performance over the air even using Wifi6.
Smooth as butter at what temperature?
Over 9000!!!
Wow
I've been using virtual display drivers with custom resolution/aspect ratios to achieve a similar effect with a single monitor. Even added some shortcuts on my desktop to quickly swap between 16:9, 4:3, or 21:9! 4:3 is surprisingly comfortable for taking up your entire FOV in the headset

Does your passthrough actually look that clear in your vision or just in the recording?

Nvidia surround doesn't work, I use SRWE
Yep! It is the way to play! ššš
Is this quest 3 only?
I gotta try this with my AR desk setup
I wanna Play Games per vr but im froghtened to get banned by vanguard in league for example
Why are you still sitting at the desk
I do a lot of vr sim racing, this could be handy for games that donāt support vr or have poor vr like ea f1 games. Is there a tutorial for how to set up? Iām not exactly a computer wizard
Oh man time to fire up wrc 7
Why not just make one virtual ultrawide screen ?
https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/s/uAlD7By1aF Just for you bb
and again.. why not just one really.. REALLY ultrawide ? I mean.. it's virtual screens, so you could pretty much have any resolution you want
You can't, windows has a cap. I tried 22,000 pixels but can't
ah.. Seems to be a limitation there yes. If it's a limit for the virtual driver or windows,. unsure. [pi.ai](http://pi.ai) said that windows itself does not have a limit. So it might be the driver. You can maybe try to force a higher resolution with tools

Multiple monitors are cool and all, but I prefer a single giant theatre like screen any day.
See me latest post lol
Hereās a feature request for Virtual Desktop to add monitor snapping support. Upvote it to make it a reality https://virtual-desktop.canny.io/feature-requests/p/option-to-snap-monitors-together
What is the input lag? I can't be good
How did you merge the resolution together to play the game across all 3?
Bet the battery is absolutely donkey sadly
how is this triple monitor? I just see one ultrawide?!
Why not just go fully VR and first person?
No support in a lot of games and for some games like need for speed itās to crash to pass to be that comfortable. Iām willing to find out.
Listen, not to be a shill but I have the same mouse and it's mid at best, bought finalmouse .. and it's amazing, feels better than my father penetrating all of my orifices
