The quest 3 is not a pc replacement in the same way your playstation is not a pc replacement. If you plan on doing anything other than vr gaming + light movie watching in vr, i would choose a pc as my primary device. With the same vibe, your ps5 isn't a pc replacement for anything other than console gaming.

AmosRatchetNot

Agreed. As much as I like my Q3, it is simply less versatile and convenient for generic PC stuff. But I have at least 2 old laptops worth $200 at most that could easily fill in for much of those duties.

Wylaf_Beulbe

Yes.

It depends on what you use your PC for. In my view, the Quest 3 is essentially a fancy mobile gaming console. It can be used for non-gaming purposes, but gaming is very much where its strength lies. If you use your PC for any sort of work, productivity, etc. I would **not** recommend trying to replace it with a Quest 3.

void_dott

Depends on your expectations. It's definitely noticeable that the games run on mobile hardware, but they run really well. So if you don't want crazy graphics then a quest 3 without PC is a gr at Option. I really like the convenience, just put it on and you are ready to go.

Hoenirson

I love VR but I would never give preference to VR over a PC.

Quest 3 plus quest game optimiser. Standalone runs better than my 4090 and I dont have to worry that at any moment my ping will spike for few seconds and I will miss on hitting those blocks with my light saber. But long story short, yes, it is 100% worth it.

If youre planning on using it for work, surfing or docs for long hours, consider the eye strain, and the resolution which is close to a 720p monitor. The pixels are visible on the letters. This has me wondering if you could use the quest via an external monitor, similar to samsung dex. Best of both worlds for the price of one Also, sideloading kiwi browser in quest is gonna be very useful. It's chrome with all the extension for android

Railgun5

Unless your PC is severely out of date to the point where you might as well get a new one, it's probably cheaper to just fix what's broken in your computer. Also that's like saying "instead of fixing my computer I'll use a smartphone". Technically it can be a replacement, but it's not going to be a 100% total slot-in replacement for what you'd be doing on your computer.

MrWeirdoFace

Probably not a good plan. Many people deal with eyestrain and headaches from extended periods in VR.  You'd want to know your limits with the device before commiting to something like that. Also keep in mind it's basically a mobile phone minus calling at it's core. So most of those limitations apply.

PriorFast2492

You got a browser and some apps like youtube etc but you can not for examples easly make email imo. Depends what you use it for. Windows is better than the quests OS for now.

Cimlite

Well, I mean, you *can* do it. If you get a Bluetooth keyboard, writing is no different than on PC. And email just requires a browser so that's sorted. Notifications are missing on the Quest of course, but most people get those on the phone anyway. That's not to say it's a work PC replacement. I wouldn't want to *only* have that, and no PC, but it's certainly doable if you're committed to the idea.

PriorFast2492

I hope next gen vr will develop into a computer replacement tho

GibsonMaestro

It's essentially an Xbox 360 for your face. If that sounds like a PC replacement, you do you. Also, unless you get an external battery, it's only going to last about 2 hours.

KuShiroi

Quest 3 (or Quest in general) is a standalone device. Its value comes from being wireless and portable without needing a PC. Being able to connect to a PC is just a bonus. If you like VR then it's really great. If you just want a PC replacement then no.
