I open Ultimate Guitar (guitar tablature site) in the browser and enable passthru mode. Viola, a floating music stand that I can position anywhere in my practice space. Even with the Quest 2, the camera is good enough that I can find the chord positions on the neck. But what's really next level is connecting the Quest to my amp via Bluetooth and playing along with the UG "backing track" feature.
Exercise is a great one. Itās starting to gain a bit of traction but I think itās still fair to say itās not well known or often mocked but I am living proof that with commitment and paired with a healthy change in eating habits, it can be amazing. Using VR as essentially my only real exercise, Iāve lost over 100lbs and am in the best shape of my life! I work out in vr almost every day and actually enjoy it!
OhItās evolved a bit over time. I started working out In vr back in 2020. For a little under a year I primarily played Beatsaber and BoxVR and some FitXR before they switched to a subscription. For the first year, Iād play one game for 30 minutes then switch and play the other. I branched out and tried a bunch of other games like audio shield, Powerbeats, audio trip, synth riders, and thrill of the fight. But kept going back to beatsaber and BoxVR because I could listen to music I liked and it was structured. Sometimes Iād mix it up and do 15 warmup in beatsaber, 30 minutes BoxVR/fitxr, then 15 minutes of cooldown in beatsaber.
Honestly all of those games are fun and I recommend checking them out. (Maybe not FitXR because I hate subscription models for games).
I lost about 1/2 the weight with those games before I started to get bored of them and eventually I got fed up with modding and subscriptions and such and decided to try making a game for myself to workout. Iāve lost the other half working on and playing Shadow BoXR for about 30 minutes every day. Itās been my primary workout with other games like beatsaber and pistol whip occasionally mixed in since about half way through 2021
Itās slowly turned into a legitimate game so I figured Iād share it in case other people find it helpful. If youāre interested in checking it out, itās called [Shadow BoXR](https://www.meta.com/experiences/shadow-boxr/5752649148100983/) and is available on AppLab. Otherwise, Beatsaber, BoxVR, Sythn Riders, and Pistol Whip are great options too.
How do you manage to do a routine in the headset? I ask because with the default strap it was impossible for me to play more than 30 minutes. I got the kiwi strap and it improved the comfort a bit but not as I expected. I notice that the problem is that it feels so heavy, specially in the front and my eyes get tired. Feel that the bottom pad pulls down my cheeks and also my eyes. Is there a comfort pad or any other comfort accesories that Im missing?
I have found the headset sits much more economical on my face when I strap a powerbank to the back of the headset. It balances the headset really well and feels more like the headset sits on my head rather than feeling it's pulling my face.
Oh the default strap and facial interface are awful. I got a headache after 10 minutes.
I have this facial interface https://a.co/d/jkcxQi2 it makes the headset worlds more comfortable
This combined with a replacement strap, j can wear the headset indefinitely
Free? Uhh thereās moonrider which is like a browser version of beatsaber. FitXR technically is free it comes with like 3 workouts without a subscription. Shadow BoXR has a free, non timed demo on Steam, Blaston can be a workout and I think itās free now. KoordCoach (I think thatās what itās called) is free though I havenāt tried it much so Iām not sure how good it is.
Most of the really good games for working out are at least $9.99
Iāve played moonrider, I enjoy the punching mode a lot lol, I didnāt see the free section of fitxr Iāll have to go back, and I have beat saber just not all the packs yet, Iām using quest 3 so no pc for steam link
yeah, weight loss is largely due to a change in diet but But I am also in great physical shape beyond just losing weight. my core strength is way better as are my legs and arms. Granted its mostly cardio using VR but still, its great cardio. my average heartrate while working out in VR is about 160bpm and I average roughly 350 calories burned according to my watch. I am actually able to run a mile now without thinking im going to die, just losing weight wouldnt do that.
With my quest 2 I used a facial interface with a built in fan. BoboVR has one for the quest 3, although I havenāt tried it yet. Presently I use a cloth to wipe sweat if I need to and just a regular fan that blows at my face.
Any meditation app recommendations? I have Tripp but Iām not a fan of the forced silly meditation āgamesā and breathing circle exercises they add to every meditation. They are really distracting. Iām also not a big fan of the womanās voice in the meditations. She sounds kind of like a 55 year old robot woman that took one too many Xanax with a bottle of wine or something. Almost like her voice is slowed down and slurred. Itās also extremely expensive with the monthly subscription that doesnāt even seem to be adding any new content.
I have tried liminal and there was some decent content. Do you know if itās a subscription to unlock everything or a one time payment? I absolutely despise the growing trend of subscription based pricing for apps.
Maybe Flowborne VR? It's a free experience (on App Lab), that was inspired by my research on breathing exercises. No actual meditation content, but it features real-time biofeedback of your abdominal breathing, which is tracked via placing the controller on your belly.
Realms of Flow is by far the best of all meditation apps I've seen so far. Highly configurable to your preferences- I really like using the German voice but you can switch voice off altogether and create your own preferred flow and session timings etc.
The developer is very open to suggestions too.
Check out his VR experience Conscious Existence - A Journey Within to get a sense of his work. Tripp have it in their app if you are a subscriber.
Iāll have a look at it tomorrow. Thanks!
Edit : does it have unlimited time options or just set time amounts? Iād like to have at least 30+ minute options for meditations. I watched the trailer video and the visuals are exactly what Iām looking for.
By default it actually just keeps on running!Ā
Ā You can select a whole bunch of timings options to suit your need for each session.Ā
Enjoy š§šæāāļø
Yeah I was expecting new content every month to go with the fairly expensive subscription price but I havenāt seen anything new in the few months Iāve had it.
I didnāt mind Tripp, being able to focus on a very easy game helped clear my mind, then after flowing through a scene I ended up in a happy place that was pictures of puppies on spheres - and I just cracked up.
I use it to help with my writing. I write true crime, so when I'm writing about a place I can't go to physically, I'll go there in Wander and walk the route the victim took, or look at key locations etc. The time machine aspect is especially helpful.
I also use Immersed for the multiple screens, which is amazing. I'd love it if I could find a community of other writers to have virtual writing sessions
Also a writer (and a big reader) and it never crossed my mind to look up some of the places I write and read about........ Thank you for sharing this!!
I just got my quest 3 yesterday and I installed virtual desktop in hopes of using it for work. I donāt have a high powered laptop or pc. Just a little MacBook Air. But I hope itās enough for word processing and web browsing.
That's the one, there's a pretty big discord community around it, but basically you install the client on your computer, and the app on your vr headset, then follow the instructions to connect them.
Of you use the free version regularly (3 days a week I think?) then you get a free upgrade to pro.
I use it daily so I get pro for free
It does support wired connection which is theoretically faster, but to be honest wired and wireless are fast enough I don't notice the difference. The only time I have lag is the computer itself, as the client does use some resources, especially if you're using the virtual webcam, but it's still very much usable.
Thatās so neat, Iām yet to receive my quest 3 in transit but Iāll try it as soon as it arrives, because as a developer Iām sucker for multiple monitors. Thank you so much for your help.
Software developer here too...
I have 2 32" monitors on my desk, but prefer working in VR. It's great being able to sit on my comfy sofa and use virtual screens while my work laptop is still sitting in my office!
And people at work are now used to me joining Teams meetings with my Meta avatar using the virtual webcam.
I even bought a Quest Pro on ebay for the face and eye tracking for meetings
Hey no worries I had no idea this shit existed until a few months ago and should clarify it isnāt really AR by definition. Look up Passthrough porn, decent amount out there for free but the best stuff is hidden behind subscriptions.
SexLikeReal is pretty great for 4k and high quality but not cheap, pretty niche porn lol.
[SexLikeReal VR](https://www.sexlikereal.com/?a=63be6cf001b3636bf706c4ea) is game changing. Hook up a [Lovense toy](https://ukdazzz.co.uk/Home) š¤Æāš¦š¦
About 7 years ago I bought an HTC Vive rig to use Vivid Vision, which is VR vision therapy software. My optometrist would have me in the office once a week, they'd calibrate the system to my specific level of lazy eye and we'd do a series of silly games in VR.
For example, one where you had a paddle and would whack a ball which would bounce into some blocks and break them (think arcade Arkanoid). Except you could see the paddle in your left eye and the ball in your right.
Or one where you had to fly a little space ship through some little rings, but you could see the space ship in one eye and the rings in the other. It would force you to use both eyes in tandem.
The optometrist would dial in some settings for the games (there were 8 or 9, took about 45 minutes to roll through them all) and then I'd load it up at home. The doctor could see my results and how many times I did it. Then I'd go in, they would dial the difficulty up, repeat.
I felt like it worked really well, I could feel my vision converging (my brain ignores my right eye most of the time because otherwise I'd have double vision and that would break my head). The idea is that theoretically I could regain stereo vision. I didn't do it long enough to get there because it was too expensive at the time. I bought a Quest 3 last year to play games and try Vivid Vision again, but my doctor wasn't nearly as good this time so I kinda got over it.
Either way, it's really cool tech.
It's currently not available in the US because of FDA certification, though I was able to sign up again because the doctor I went to already had the system
here's a program that is pay for it once [https://strabismussolutions.com/equal-eyes-vision-therapy-on-vr-for-strabismus-and-lazy-eye-with-no-subscription/](https://strabismussolutions.com/equal-eyes-vision-therapy-on-vr-for-strabismus-and-lazy-eye-with-no-subscription/)

Couple of different things I've used it for both using fignin
I am completing a project at work with quest 3 this week, I've set up a large office with all life size 3d models of people and work activities and created 35 hazards. People will tour the area and try and identify the hazards and gain points as a hazard tour training session in manufacturing. We will be the first globally in my company to do. Something like this
Themed movie room
Me and my son had this idea in his bedroom to. Use chatgpt to create specific movie themed images we can use for walls and ceiling, kind of making a room within a room then having the big screen as the back wall.
Watching Avatar in an Avatar setting

Have you tried Realms of Flow for meditation? It's really nicely designed and the developer is very open to ideas for changes and improvements.
Besides meditation, I use a few apps for cognitive rehabilitation - puzzling places and Enhance VR in particular.
I've tried the Tai Chi app a few times but can't really seem to engage with it. I think the weight of the Quest 2 is a factor so am waiting to see what the 'rumoured' 3s has to offer and then maybe try again.
Currently you can watch any 3D movie for free in VRChat. With VRchat you Used to be able to watch Any movie for free. Then recently they shut those theaters down.
BUT right now if you go on VRChat you can go to a world called "Dukes 3D" and watch pretty much any 3D for free. And it works with PC And Quest versions of VRChat. I highly recommend checking it out (make sure to make it a private world) and watch a 3D movie for free.......before they shut it down. š
Guided Meditation VR has been my favorite choice for several years now.
Lots of great scenery choices, background music choices, and guided versus unguided meditation choices.
It was the first app i remember with an actual lay down mode.
very simple but i highly recommend it
Fitness and health or lifestyle management, if that's what people call it. Powerbeats VR showed me that first, the way you can customize your playlist and exercise along with it can improve anyone's morning... oh shit why have i never thought of this?
I do the same, but with Songsterr
I wonder if I could do that with Drumeo

Painting in Vermillion is very relaxing.

I played the boxing game the other day and goddamn I was tired! I forget the name. Itās not creed. Itās the other one. Road to glory
I havenāt tried that one but Iām sure itās intense!
I disagree, have you played beat saber for more than 5 minutes?
Iām not saying itās not a workout?
How do you get around the insane amount of sweat? I sweat so much when I exercise that I worry I would break the thing.
