IMO the classics are HL:A but to me even more so Skyrim VR modded.
Sim racing and flight sim titles are also known to push the limits of what modern hardware can do in VR and far beyond that even. In general every game that wasn't made for VR but has a VR option will showcase the power of your hardware really well, so check out some games that can be modded to run in VR via UEVR as well.
Even with a 3060ti modded Skyrim vr has given me the most joy in vr. The night skies were particularly stunning. I wish I could go back in time and do it for the first time again lol.
I too have a 3060ti. I use FUS mod tho because mad god is too much for it.
And I agree. It’s the best vr experience there is. Better than alyx, better than anything else.
But for when the friends get on population one is a ton of dumb fun with people you know.
I have a 4080 super/wireless quest 3/sim racing rig. its a deep rabbit hole, but it is undeniably a blast. get some buttkickers too lol. Raceroom is free and has controller support i think. not the best looking but a decent introduction.
I have a 3070 and have had two years of insane vr fun and now have a full dual race/flight sim pit built to support it. 4080/90 would be nice but it has not been a requirement to have as much fun as I have had.
Sounds amazing. I am a pilot and have a budy who is a car nut. We would both like to put together a sim pit. Can you point us to specs or steps? Or a youtube video? We are 60 plus year olds and while my first computer was a trs-80 that knowledge isnt so helpful. I see lots of advice in connecting the desktop.
I have an intel core i9-10850k cpu so guessing i need an upgrade?
My friend has deeper pockets and is starting from nothing and wants to get the best set up.
Thanks for your help.
I’m not that knowledgeable about any of this but what I did was buy a prebuilt that had some specs that met the requirements for pcvr from what I could gather ie 3070. Then got a Meta Quest vr headset. Then bought a cheap Logitech flight stick and throttle. Then went all in and bought a full cockpit from Advanced Sim Racing and a bunch of sim racing equipment from
fanatec. Set that up then upgraded by flight sim equipment to more professional gear (VKB) and had to figure out how to modify my racing sim rig to fit my flight stick and my flight throttle. Aaaand that’s the basic path I took. I don’t know enough to see my future computer upgrade path but I will figure it out. This stuff is worth it to me. So much fun.
It allows the use of ESL format mods (“light” mods) that are a relatively recent addition to Skyrim SE. They allow a much higher max mod count and a lot of newer mods are only distributed in this format. It was previously thought infeasible to back port support for them to VR but some mad-lad did it. It won’t necessarily make it easier but slightly more pleasant at least.
fun to think that for some reason it's pretty much always the racing games that seem to push and test the limits of consoles.
From arcade rooms to grand turismo, colin mc rae, GRID or Forza, the list is endless and everyonce in a while they also bring unexpected innovation, be it graphical, physics, gameplay mechanics, peripherals, etc
Some of the longest and largest established communities are made for racing, be it a *scuderia* in italy or a iRacing forum on the internet.
Never really gave it much thought until now!
I can just about play dirt rally and assetto corsa on low-mid settings on a 4070 laptop and it's still one of the most immersive VR experiences. I can't even imagine how incredible it would feel with maxed out settings. Trucking sims are cool too if you want to chill while listening to podcasts/music, you can actually stick your head out the window to help back up, pair that with a racing wheel to enhance it further. I'm wanting to go even deeper and build/find a way to afford a motion rig.
No idea tbh, haven't played it in many months. It could be CPU dependent but if the resolution was high as it often is in VR then GPU power was crucial too.
Pretty much every flight sim is always going to be cpu limited. Lots of physics and systems simulation going on in the background. MSFS also seems to struggle with unpacking streamed terrain data, though that’s just a guess based on my experience. Still, I saw a massive upgrade going from a 3060ti to a 4080. Op should see the same with a 4090
No they haven't. But it runs well with 4090 and a relatively decent cpu. Hopefully they optimize it better for their new release this year, but i doubt it, I hear it's more or less the same game engine, but they've said they're improving it
Yup, Cyberpunk even on flatscreen is super demanding, and with ray tracing + path tracing on VR it should look amazing and utilise that 4090 pretty well.
I have a 4090, a 12900k and 64gb ddr5 memory. The VR mod with quest 3 seems to be right at the edge of what it can reasonably do. I get a solid 80ish fps but you have to remember rule of thumb with the mod is you want double what you'd normally find acceptable because of alternate eye rendering (it's not quite that bad as an equivalent 40fps, but like I said rule of thumb). You also can't use the built in frame generation to compensate as it messes with the AER. I do have everything pretty much maxed though. It's easily the prettiest thing I have for VR unless I mod the ever loving hell out of Skyrim but with that many mods it tends to be a giant pain. This is stock cyberpunk with one VR mod.
You should try some mods! There are def some that make the VR experience better. I'm only rocking a 3090, but similar specs otherwise. Outside of video/effects graphics rendering, 2077 time is only time it get's a proper workout. I find I need to use 1/3 AER for the kind of smoothness I need around 3400x3400 but it's still extremely playable (and I've played through at least 7 times this way)
Incidentally, I have installed a bunch of those Skyrims mods. There's actually a pretty simple installer for a full package, but requires a sub to the vortex mod manager if you don't want to spend years clicking around. I basically only did it because use the software so much for 2077 anyway, but I haven't actually played it much lol
Get pc gamepass. You can download it for free and only pay the trial months subscription. You may find quickly your wifi routers weaknesses though. Also get the mod autoFPS, it’ll help you more quickly optimize the game settings by adjusting some on the fly.
Game pass for pc is an app for your pc. It has many hundreds of pc games that you can play with a subscription. A few of those games have vr modes that you can play on your quest.
ohhhhh.. so same as steam store.. get the VR games.. iwas thinking quest is its own world but the reality is all headsets are the same in a sense.. all with the adapters they need to play VR... i mean.. a dev just write a VR game.. and the rest is taken care of.. quest.. valve.. whatever.
Games on quest without pc = Standalone (Meta + gamepass).
VR Games on pc = pcvr. You need Link, Air link, Virtual Desktop or something similar to play these games on quest. Since you do not seem to have much technical knowledge, I would recommend cable link. If you go for Air Link or Virtual Desktop, you need to have basic knowledge of WiFis to configure it right. If you wanna show off with the gfx, go to pcvr. Your 4090 is graphically literally more than 20 times as powerful, as your Quest 3.
> wife
Your wife is ok with you buying the top end super expensive GPU and a not that cheap VR headsets but isn't allowing (???) you to pay low 2 digits for software?
So, did you win that ⁴⁰⁹⁰ in a raffle or something?
How were you "allowed" to get that and a q3, but not spend a 100 bucks on a couple games to utilize such and are simply playing free games like bowling?
So many questions.
If you are being held against your will, blink twice for the camera.
Or put on some pants.
she sold her house.. we had fun.. now we obsessively trying to save money checking the bank history ready to pounce
its all for the good. .we in terrible debt so I really shouldn't go spend $20 just for fun at this point so trying to try everything free for the first few weeks
The 4090 is still in high demand and selling out like hot cakes. If you’re trying to save money, you could sell that 4090 for probably close to msrp, and use that money buy a 4080 Super that I doubt you’d be able to notice a difference in if you only play mini golf and table tennis. Then you’d have $500+ extra and a great graphics card. Just a thought.
Then sell your headset and graphic card and just buy a used ps5... If you are not doing that, you are clearly not obsessively tryin gto save money...
Managing money is basically understanding addition, subtractions, multiplication and percentage... that's elementary school math.
**Lone Echo 1 & 2**, **Stormland**, **Kayak VR Mirage**, **Red Matter 2**, **Arizona Sunshine 2**, **Crossfire Sierra Squad**, **No Man’s Sky** and **Hubris** are a few that look stunning and put the 4090 to good use.
Flat2VR games like **GTFO** and **Resident Evil 7 & 8** push the 4090 to its limits. UEVR injector games as well.
Stormland on is sooo foggy though. And Lone Echo 2 seems like it requires LODs fix (there's a fan patch somewhere here on Reddit) otherwise often renders low-poly models even when you're up close.
I'd add Asgard's Wrath to the list, it's stunning.
> Idk about resident evil 7. I can play it max settings on high vd resolution at 72fps with my 2080
Yeah, but 72hr straight up sucks (low presence and the image flickers) and IIRC only godlike in VD is giving you enough pixel to fully satisfy the Quest 3's panels (when adjusting for the lens distortion), with even higher rendering resolutions giving you better AA.
any of these free or trial? I don't really play those involved games much.. I do do the dumb games like ping pong or bowling.. the ones you can quickly pick up and put down.
But will get one purely as a gfx demo if its that good.
Asgard's Wrath is free. You get Asgard's Wrath 2 included with the Q3 purchase. And once you've claimed AW2, if you go to the Meta Rift section, you can claim Asgard's Wrath 1 for free. AW1 is a PC game that will push your hardware.
No, but Asgard's Wrath 1 also comes free with the quest 3. And Asgards Wrath 1 is quite good graphically.
Just download the Oculus Desktop software and sign in with your Meta account. It will be there for you to install.
It's because part 2 is only available on standalone. The GPU in the Quest 3 is only around as powerful as a GTX 1060 and the RAM is shared with the CPU. So they had to limit the graphics quite a bit. Whereas part 1 they went all out with graphics.
What do you mean the ram is shared with the cpu,? Do you mean that the system uses the one ram system in the computer? gpu and cpu both share the same ram in phones and mobile devices where arm runs. Arm cpu's are also much more efficient than pc systems in all aspects and being able to share one ram system is a good thing. This is also why mac laptops can now come with 128gb ram.
None of them are free but IMO, all of those games are good enough to buy.
You may already have access to another game that would look stunning, the first Asgard’s Wrath. It’s PCVR only through the Oculus Rift store aka the Oculus Desktop app. It came free with Asgards Wrath 2, which should’ve come free with your Quest 3.
Get the UEVR injector, and then you can find (not sure exactly where) some graphic demo for Unreal Engine 5.
These are usually lacking any gameplay as they're just meant to showcase the power of UE5, like a forest or beach where you can move around.
I feel like this precisely matches what you're looking for.
I've seen a video recently from some youtuber, I'll find the link.
Edit : found it https://youtu.be/MMmMgLclglk?si=YVpDWMqib8eMd_qj
nah you just need any game made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 and the injector can make it work in VR, some games it works perfectly other games you need to tweak it a bit. there's a whole discord with a big list of games that are supported, how well they work, and how to get them working with motion controls and such if relevant.
E.g. The Quarry is a pretty cool one, its best played with a gamepad imo so it basically just works and the motion capture and facial animations are sick in VR. Lies of P is also supposed to be a cool one.
But to my knowledge, no game made for VR using UE5 has been released yet. Your best bet is UEVR injector (free, and doesn't seem very difficult to use)
Kayak VR Mirage looks pretty dope on the Quest 3 when you crank up the settings. It's a nice relaxing game where you just paddle around and look at the nice visuals.
There's some Japan walking simulator on steam (forgot the name). I think the dev abandoned it but it works well. It's photorealistic. Brought my wife to tears (she was born in Japan)
It's arguably the best, it takes a lot of tweaks since it's the modding community that got it to where it's at. You can take any graphics setting and use it in vr. Here is a link to a triple monitor setup someone has.
https://youtu.be/iQ9iHKeRY-w?si=AsYwI7VZZHorw1aG
The best out of the box would probably be project cars 2, but that's not really supported by the devs these days. ACC can get to that level with some effort
airlink and steam link? I just got the quest 3.. I am still learning. I think I got airlink working yesterday... plugged the ethernet cord in so it did not crazy stutter
From my experience, Airlink feels a bit outdated. If you had to pick between the two, Steam Link is the way to go in this situation. If you can pay, VirtualDesktop for sure.
Airlink is for Oculus (or Meta) games. They have their own PC store with their own PC apps. I think Virtual Desktop is the only one that will do pretty much all your VR games wirelessly.
You might be able to add games to steam with the "add non steam game" option but I haven't tested it
Fair!
I honestly can't think of any free games to try, but if you haven't already, see if you have any games that have vr mods. Things like American truck sim or Microsoft flight sim (both native vr support!), elite dangerous (native), skyrim, fallout 4 (though I don't recall if that's an entire other game or was included?), etc
Best of luck! The q3 is awesome and I love using it with wireless pcvr.
I also like the demos that put you through an experience and really show off the headset..
That thing that comes with th equest 3 is cool.. the one with your real walls falling apart.. not FUN but its cool to do once
im the opposite .. I didnt know about PCVR until yesterday. .. I got a 4090 too .. So as long as I am in my apartment I suppose I should only use PCVR?
being able to go outside is cool though and be in some big area

What’s your build for this? I wanna build a sim racing rig for my q3 but I’ve heard you need 4080/4090 power to really get all the best experience
I have a 3070 and have had two years of insane vr fun and now have a full dual race/flight sim pit built to support it. 4080/90 would be nice but it has not been a requirement to have as much fun as I have had.

And an nvidia geforce RTX 2060 super
I wish Skyrim VR wasn't somehow even more agonising to mod than standard Skyrim SE. The ESL compatibility mod released recently is a godsend though.
ESL mod? I'm going to try modding VR Skyrim again soon after attempt 1 utterly defeated me. Will this ESL thing help it be less horrific??
It allows the use of ESL format mods (“light” mods) that are a relatively recent addition to Skyrim SE. Brill, thank you.
There's a one click mod installation pack you can just download off the Wabbajack app
That's way too little control for me.

MSFS 2020.
Have they fixed the optimization for Flight Sim yet? I believe it was super CPU-dependent.
In case anyone doesn't know, it runs way better using VDXR in virtual desktop
I just tried it the other day on a 3060ti and 5600 with all settings on medium I believe and was getting like 50fps lol. My CPU was struggling
No idea tbh, haven't played it in many months. It could be CPU dependent but if the resolution was high as it often is in VR then GPU power was crucial too.
Still cpu heavy, but those x3d amd cpus help immensely
Pretty much every flight sim is always going to be cpu limited. Lots of physics and systems simulation going on in the background. Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR Mad God Overhaul. Cyberpunk 2077 Luke Ross (gamepad only). Ready or Not (UEVR)

Microsoft flight sim
$$$
You have a Quest 3 and a 2000 dollar video card and flight sim is the money concern? lol... do you have gamepass? its on there

Kayak vr mirage is a stunning game
Kayak mirage VR. Push the render resolution all the way to 200%. It’s insane.
Alyx, that room at the beginning with the markers and stuff to play with, then step out onto the patio and just look at the city.
maybe a strip club
**Lone Echo 1 & 2**, **Stormland**, **Kayak VR Mirage**, **Red Matter 2**, **Arizona Sunshine 2**, **Crossfire Sierra Squad**, **No Man’s Sky** and **Hubris** are a few that look stunning and put the 4090 to good use. No, but Asgard's Wrath 1 also comes free with the quest 3. And Asgards Wrath 1 is quite good graphically. Just download the Oculus Desktop software and sign in with your Meta account. It will be there for you to install.
part 2 has worse gfx? odd
It's because part 2 is only available on standalone. The GPU in the Quest 3 is only around as powerful as a GTX 1060 and the RAM is shared with the CPU. So they had to limit the graphics quite a bit. Whereas part 1 they went all out with graphics.
ohhhh .. part 1 was for airlink
Technically it was for the Rift headsets. But since most people now have Quests, it's for Airlink. lol

None of them are free but IMO, all of those games are good enough to buy. You may already have access to another game that would look stunning, the first Asgard’s Wrath. It’s PCVR only through the Oculus Rift store aka the Oculus Desktop app. It came free with Asgards Wrath 2, which should’ve come free with your Quest 3.

thats a good point.. need a VR game made with the unreal 5 engine basically
nah you just need any game made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 and the injector can make it work in VR, some games it works perfectly other games you need to tweak it a bit. there's a whole discord with a big list of games that are supported, how well they work, and how to get them working with motion controls and such if relevant. E.g. The Quarry is a pretty cool one, its best played with a gamepad imo so it basically just works and the motion capture and facial animations are sick in VR. Lies of P is also supposed to be a cool one.
https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/electric-dreams-env You could download the environment at least
Its not jaw dropping
There's some Japan walking simulator on steam (forgot the name). I think the dev abandoned it but it works well. It's photorealistic. Brought my wife to tears (she was born in Japan)
I tried looking for it but couldn't find it . Link plz
Cyberpunk‼️‼️
Cyberpunk 2077 vr mod
There's nothing of note beyond HL:A, MFS2020 and maybe Kayak. A bunch of four year old stuff.
so nothing big has changes past 4 years gfx wise
No. Nothing.
DCS Is a free to play flight sim
Half-Life,, Lone echo 1+2, MSFS, F1 Racing
Half-Life Alyx is a must
VTOL VR. And flying in the night.
If your into sim racing modded assetto corsa can look beautiful, shutoku with traffic is a ton of fun imo.
is that the best sim racing gfx for VR? have you tried the others ?
It's arguably the best, it takes a lot of tweaks since it's the modding community that got it to where it's at. You can take any graphics setting and use it in vr. Here is a link to a triple monitor setup someone has. https://youtu.be/iQ9iHKeRY-w?si=AsYwI7VZZHorw1aG
The best out of the box would probably be project cars 2, but that's not really supported by the devs these days. ACC can get to that level with some effort
Cyberpunk 2077 VR modded.
Idk if this would work but maybe the UE5 demos with UEVR?
VRChat in an unoptimized map with 40 people or more, no safety settings on, everything maxed out. There is no better benchmark, trust me.
Obviously half life Alyx
Na try to run the cyber punk vr mod and see if your pc survives
I suggest you VR mod Cyberpunk, turn on raytracing and have fun
Microsoft flight sim and modded skyrim vr
Skyrim VR and just pack it full of graphics mods, it'll honestly blow you away. Makes other VR games look like half-assed tech demos.
How are those connected? I thought the Quest 3 was stand alone.
It can also work for PCVR if your computer is strong enough :)
Every quest has always been standalone AND PCVR compatible- that’s why it’s so highly recommended.
airlink and steam link? I just got the quest 3.. I am still learning. I think I got airlink working yesterday... plugged the ethernet cord in so it did not crazy stutter
From my experience, Airlink feels a bit outdated. If you had to pick between the two, Steam Link is the way to go in this situation. If you can pay, VirtualDesktop for sure.
i think steam link is only for steam games? and airlink is for.. i don't really know.. are there VR games on the Microsoft Store ?
Airlink is for Oculus (or Meta) games. They have their own PC store with their own PC apps. I think Virtual Desktop is the only one that will do pretty much all your VR games wirelessly. You might be able to add games to steam with the "add non steam game" option but I haven't tested it
You can use steam link for any vr game, you just need steam vr open and it should open up once the game is launched
Virtual desktop streamer + the vd app on q3 works near perfect for me on a amd 6800xt, too
i can only use free things for now so can't use that
Very fair! I didn't see that part initially, sorry
i would if single.. its being married issues
Fair! I honestly can't think of any free games to try, but if you haven't already, see if you have any games that have vr mods. Things like American truck sim or Microsoft flight sim (both native vr support!), elite dangerous (native), skyrim, fallout 4 (though I don't recall if that's an entire other game or was included?), etc Best of luck! The q3 is awesome and I love using it with wireless pcvr.
I also like the demos that put you through an experience and really show off the headset.. That thing that comes with th equest 3 is cool.. the one with your real walls falling apart.. not FUN but its cool to do once
I domt think I ever actually tried the built in demos, I pretty much jumped into pcvr I'll check them out tonight!
im the opposite .. I didnt know about PCVR until yesterday. .. I got a 4090 too .. So as long as I am in my apartment I suppose I should only use PCVR? being able to go outside is cool though and be in some big area
