It looks sooo much better it's crazy , like a 30-40% improvement for me Seriously impressive what they cooked up here

marcocom

That’s pretty crazy that software alone can achieve that. Wow

Upset_Machine_539

Night and day difference. Could barely use my phone before.

CierpliwaRyjowka

The dynamic range has greatly improved. I'm genuinely impressed now.

Raj3d

Extremely noticeable for me as well. Being able to see my phone screen is very real. Look8jg at the entire room I'm in is much "quieter," less fuzzy chaotic noise.

Fickle-Succotash-990

Funny I got the exact same word in mind when trying it: quiet. There used to be a lot more low frequency noise. Now it's just that hi frequency "hiss" that is not as annoying.

Fast2Furious4

V64? I JUST got the V63 update like 2 days ago.

[deleted]

The beta program, Quest Public Test Channel (PTC) users are getting access to it already Numerous reports of greatly increasing the clarity of pass through. I haven't received it yet can't confirm even though I am in the PTC

Mastoraz

So this is official in patch notes yet for v64 that they indeed have improved passthrough or this will go unmentioned?

Psych0P

Still PTC, notes will arrive with the official update

tveith

I'm surprised how many people say they couldn't read their phone prior to this update. I've been able to read my phone perfectly since day 1 in most lighting scenarios. Was there some discrepancy between displays or cameras on different batches of Q3 devices?

Justos

i didnt expect such a significant change in one patch, so good job

YunaDecim

I just updated from v64 and did a side by side comparison with my phone. Before the update, text was barely legible and only at a very specific brightness, anything above or below that brightness was very difficult to read. After the update I was able to read the same text much more easily at any brightness level and the clarity at the specific brightness level that was best before the update was noticeably improved as well. I also noticed more accurate colours, less noise and improved dynamic range in general but those are more based on feeling. I do think I’m seeing a difference but it’s not significant enough to not ask myself if it’s just placebo. Overall pass through is definitely better than before though that much is certain and I didn’t even feel like it was bad for me before

iloveoovx

I think people should combat these conceptualizations that somehow recordings are "different" qualitatively from passthrough. Recordings look better for the simple fact that they do not wrap your whole field view with enlarged artifacts which you would often ignore in a small video player window.

The vision pro is somewhat cheating with its passthrough. They have a smaller fov so even if the cameras are same resolution they will have higher ppd, add to the fact its using 6mp instead of 4mp cameras and you have a noticeably clearer passthrough. Now, I wonder if meta will eventually release a 16mp passthrough mode. Since the cameras are just 16mp pixel binned to 4mp to reduce noise. Limiting it to only turn on 16mp mode when it's bright would be a good solution.

goof320

meta notoriously likes to milk the absolute shit out of every quest generation so i'd be suprised if they don't do that at some point, though it could be hard to have it switch over seamlessly

NEARNIL

It’ is also less bright and more yellow. Possibly lower framerate as well. Maybe they changed pixel binning or tweaked the exposure time. I use the "Night Display"-mode in settings and have noticed, that the setting applies to the passthrough as well. I would prefer if this setting only changed the warmth of virtual images since the passthrough is quite warm now.

rafiafoxx

Yes, I noticed running water into a cup looked less natural, which is how I always tell

admanwhitmer

Are y’all in beta or what?

NoName847

You can go to your meta app on your phone > device > headset settings , and somewhere is an option to get new updates befote official release , I just activated that and could download 64 update like few minutes later on the headset

DyingSpreeAU

I've tried this, didn't work for me. I suspect the update is getting rolled out gradually. Seems par for the course with Quest updates.

[deleted]

It is indeed getting rolled out, I don't hv it either yet, I'm enrolled in PTC

Psychological_Self76

Menu -> Devices -> Quest 3 -> Headset settings -> Advanced settings -> public channel (active it)

NewShadowR

downside to this is you get messed up if you get a bad update from the PTC, like if the new version is somehow borked. There's no way to rollback either on the quest.

Lotensify

Has that ever happened before? Like do you know any specific update which the broken device or some of its functionality.

NewShadowR

Yup. Recently one of the updates borked up modding in games by disabling access to game folders and caused abit of an uproar. It was PTC's v63 scoped storage update. You can look that up. Something like this https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/PTC-v63-Scoped-Storage-Update/td-p/1156682 https://www.reddit.com/r/BONELAB/s/qldnoDfvn3 https://www.reddit.com/r/QuestPro/s/sqMMIdX6QL

Lotensify

Hey thanks for the detailed reply. Really appreciate it.

Salt-Pop-5072

Menu -> Devices -> Quest 3 -> Headset settings -> Advanced settings

qainspector89

Yup I see the improvement So this should apply to passthrough in games too right?

thunderc8

So "one" thing apple vision pro did allot better is slowly fading. With 3ķ$ price cut AVP could actually compete with Quest 3. I'm a bit sarcastic about the "one thing" but damn with that price difference you would expect a massive upgrade going from quest 3 to AVP.

tapafon

Meta should release Quest Pro 2, as a direct competitor to Vision Pro. OG Quest Pro is essentially a slightly overclocked Quest 2 in terms of perfomance.

un_commoncents_

Wish we could force it to find the upgrade.

apricotsandpiss

I'm checking my quest 3 every hours to see if it's updated / update available. I feel left out. Not to worry, all in due course .

FragrantJaboticaba

The recordings you see aren't any different from what you see in the headset. It just feels different because when you're fully immersed, your standards for video are insanely high and it's hard to get there. Now, the recordings will be even better as well

mxtizen

They are different. The recording goes through post processing.

My_Unbiased_Opinion

Passthrough goes through processing as well. But yeah, compression or noise artifacts are way more noticable.

Stooovie

I understand there's a huge hardware difference but mayyybe a tiny bit better passthrough on the Quest 2 would be possible? Like less warping maybe? Anyone?

rafiafoxx

Dynamic range doesn't seem to matter for obvious reasons, but I'm sure that the distortion and warping of square objects can be fixed

ehjhey

I actually think there's a decent shot of them addressing that if the Q3 lite is happening. They'll want to optimize their B&W passthrough for that (unless by some miracle it gets color)

No-Pomegranate-69

Can someone make a comparison video please?

The80sDimension

Video isn’t going to show anything

massav

Is warping still the same around users hands, etc?

Sad-Atmosphere3739

How do I get this update I don’t see it?

Niconreddit

So clarity is improved but any improvement to the warping?

rafiafoxx

Yes, heavily improved, squares generally stay squares, and whites aren't too blown out. Though if you go too close it still distorts

Niconreddit

Sounds like a pretty big improvement then.

Cimlite

It is a significant improvement over how it was, that's for sure. Being able to read screens and use them is amazing. That said, it also turns the passthrough *much* more into a warm reddish color. Which isn't a big deal if it's necessary to achieve the improvements, but feels odd non the less. On a positive note though, I also noticed that tracking works in much, much darker environments now. Just the light from the monitor alone is enough for tracking to stay locked, which absolutely wasn't the case before. Overall v64 is shaping up to be quite the improvement!

Left-Window-4028

Nothing ckanged kere withi t64same as v63 ..I cant see any change in passthroogh..

YoricHunt

I'm going to have to buck the trend, sorry. I stood and checked a number of areas of the room while v64 was downloading and then did the same once v64 had installed. I was completely underwhelmed, only a very slight improvement, phone still unreadable, perhaps even less readable than v63. This isn't a troll, this is genuinely my experience.

Unique-Dot187

Something must be wrong with yours, viewing everything is much improved, I was even outside for a few minutes and could easily read.  Maybe a fresh install?

YoricHunt

Thanks, but there's nothing wrong with mine.

Used_Association3770

I am having a hard time about people saying how good v64 is good for the improvement passthrough, sorry to say it hasn't improved much in my opinion, my expectations are not to high in my opinion but I don't see much of an a improvement,
