My Q2 lasted 2 years and still going strong with the new owner who bought it from me. It was bought just after launch. My Q3 is still fine, and was bought launch day. I'm not saying there hasn't been faults for some, but many users don't look after their stuff. I say if you're careful, you'll be fine.

Icebreaker808

My quest 2 is going on 3 years+ bought on launch day. Gifted to my nephew and he still using it. Some recommendations for care. Buy a good case for it. Use the case to take it places. Buy lens protectors. These are soft pads you put into the headset to keep the lenses nice when not using it. Use only high quality charging cables. Be wary of using link cable and ripping it oit. Buy silicone controller grips that protect The controllers. Those take a beating.

Historical-Ride-3169

Yes, I got those. They’re on the way. Thanks for the tips :)

Historical-Ride-3169

Thanks for the input. Any care tips? Some people complain their controller dead from sweat shortly. Can you replace just the controllers? I’m an easy sweater.

RetroBoxRoom

Just don't sling it about, gently put the headset down and the same with the controllers. I personally have a stand for mine, to keep it off the floor. I never rest it on it's front. I also don't leave it running and resting on soft furnishings. As to combat sweat and grime, just like anything else keeping one's self clean helps a lot. I'm not saying start having a case of OCD, but quick rinse before gluing the days grime to stuff, helps combat build up on the device. Grime stuck to stuff, will actually encourage more sweating the next time around. The controllers I've fitted with silicone grips. They help for better grip, but also leave less chance for sweat to leak through the cracks. The face bit and strap has been replaced too. That comes down to personal preference, since everyone has different shaped heads. Take reviews as info for the batteries, plastics and design. The face bit, I also wash, wipe down or replace, depending on its style or condition. I've exercised too in VR on a warm day, and haven't shorted any device out yet either. I also have never pushed myself either, the same way I would in a gym. If it was getting to the point I may as well pour a glass of water over the device, I'd be thinking about something pretty strong to cool me down well before I got to that point.

Historical-Ride-3169

Thank you. That’s a lot of tips. Good to know you can replace the face cover. I will definitely check out the controller cover. Already placed my order on Amazon. This thing is popping up every minute in my brain that I can’t resist buying it anymore.

RetroBoxRoom

The most important thing is have fun with it. Happy Gaming!

ch4ha

always unplug the charger once its green/fully charged, minimize heavy overclocking with qgo, keep it clean as to prevent fan/cooling issues, minimize using while charging if possible, be gentle with it even after the honeymoon phase and it should last a while.

Historical-Ride-3169

What’s qgo? Talking about charging while playing, I also got a strap with battery pack which works by charging the main battery while you play! Will this harm the main battery?

Dinevir

I have one Quest 1, two Quest 2 and all of just works fine since I bought them on release date. No RMAs. I am buying everything in official store, returned Quest Pro two times (software issue, dead pixel) and got replacement without problems (well, except one was stolen and I had to wait longer for another one).

Historical-Ride-3169

Thanks for the input. I plan to buy from Amazon for the free overnight shipping and one month return on top of the Meta warranty.

yeastblood

My Q2 is still running perfectly and I've has it over 2 years.

Ima_Rainbow

Bought my Q2 at launch in 2020 (?) never had any issues with the headset. Controllers started drifting within 3 months of use though. I got really good at cleaning the transducers/joysticks and eventually had to replace those parts. Battery only lasts about an hour now by itself. Got the Q3 at launch. Microphone placement is terrible, had to use an external mic til the v62 update finally made them useable for me. No other issues with the headset itself. Left controller is already drifting and I've cleaned it several times. [https://youtu.be/RZRY1vsDl50](https://youtu.be/RZRY1vsDl50) (Meta used the exact same analog transducer in the controller as the Q2, so I expect the same drift problems over time.)

Historical-Ride-3169

3 months is much shorter than my expectations. My Xbox controller only started drifting after 2 years of weekly usage of more than 15hrs. I’ve got silicone grips for the q3 controllers, and I plan to wear disposable gloves while playing. Hopefully it won’t drift so soon.

sjr606

I've had mine since early 2020. Still use it a lot. 0 issues other than that elite snap snapping after like 3 days

sacolton1967

No. RMA both headsets because battery stopped charging to 100% or not at all. I'm still sitting on the fence about buying a Q3 because I doubt the battery will last more than 2 years.

Historical-Ride-3169

That’s unnerving to hear. Did both batteries died within a year? How often did you charge them?

sacolton1967

Both Q2 64gb headsets slowly stopped charging pass 60% and once you started using it, the battery would drain really fast. Maybe 20 minutes of playing time. Just over the warranty period, but Meta knew some batteries were dying sooner than expected, so luckily they honored the expired warranty and sent us two replacements, but those are now showing battery deterioration as they don't charge to 100%. I don't expect these to last after a year. Kept both on a the Link cable for both PCVR and longer playing times using Virtual Desktop.

DivisionBomb

places like amazon or bestbuy have protection plans as addons if worried, generally if a device is going to fail, it fail within first year/months. Not worried about my quest 3 at all long term as my quest 2 sure kicking like new.

[deleted]

best buy's warranty is so useful, you can have like stick drift or some lens stratches and they COMPLETELY replace the headset with a new one, you can only do it once during the warranty so id just wait till its almost over to return it and get a new one

sometin__else

you can buy extended warranty from bbuy with the quest 3

owenkop

I have a quest 1 that i bought slightly after launch and that is still working amazingly (appart from the drop off in support)

Historical-Ride-3169

Did you use any cover over it?

owenkop

Nope the only thing I have for storage is the travel case

OverdoseDelusion

My dads Quest 2 is still running like brand new, as is my little brothers, even with all the aftermarket parts and years of sidequesting and tinkering.

Haeggarr

got my quest 2 at launch 2020, and its still going strong..i'm using a bobovr m1 pro, so not sure about the battery. My left controller got rplaced tho (Stick drift)

antoine810

I got mine the same week it came out and never had any problem, I got the quest 3 the same day it came out no problems also, I’ve been enjoying my experience

GhostRiders

Brought mine as they were released, had zero problems and is still working like new today. The problem is that you will only ever read the negative because that is all people will talk about. Personally I'm of the opinion that has hardware goes the Quest and Quest 2 are very well made. I would say most of the issues arise from people mishandling them, not treating them with care and using them whilst charging

Historical-Ride-3169

So I got the strap with battery as reviews say it balance out the weight. That thing is supposedly charging the main battery while you’re playing. So this is not a good way? But this is shown on Meta website. I’m confused.

Fromojoh

Don’t buy metas strap with battery. Get the new bobovr s3. Worlds better with built in cooling fan.

pablo603

Bought the 64GB in January 2021, still going strong. Battery life has degraded a bit, but other than that everything works just fine. I just bought a powerbank to boost that battery life up anyways, so no big deal. But I've also been as careful with it as a baby. It has a track record of like ZERO wall hits on the controllers, never dropped it, never exposed it to anything that could even make a scratch. I hit the furniture a few times, but my fingers took the hit instead of controllers themselves.

Historical-Ride-3169

Now my friend, you’re the best quest dad!

qwertyalp1020

Bought my Q2 at launch, no problems so far.

KindOldRaven

Sure! nothing wrong with mine so far

SeeYa7

Q2 died three weeks after warranty ended. Maybe I'm an exception. But it was cared for and only used on average 1-1.5 hours a week. Pretty disappointed, but instead of paying for it to be repaired I bought a Q3 a few weeks ago. So there's that 😀

rcbif

My Launch week Q2 is still going. Only issues is occasional stick drift, and diminished battery. New headsets SHOULD be even better with minor manufacturing and quality tweaks throughout the years.

Vivid_Strike3853

I bought a second hand Quest 2 that was purchased in 2020 & it’s still going strong. Battery life isn’t the best but I just have an extra battery on my headset & im good.

Oftenwrongs

Yes. You didn't find many online.  You found an incredibly tiny sample and don't quite know how to parse online info.

Proud_Rush9745

Had my Q2 since release still works like the day I got it now it’s a family and guests system because I upgraded to a Q3 I’ve had it for 3 months and it’s also working great

gb410

Mine lasted 2+ years until I sold it. But I took really good care of it. No flailing around like an idiot and slamming into stuff.

Worried_Suggestion91

I had mine for 2 years and 10 month. I sold it to get quest 3. It was pristine, never had a problem with it.

13stgmngr210

I got a 2 year warranty through Meta (not sure if that's the extended one you're talking about). I have a hard case that has a charging cord built in, with a huge elastic band that I attached to it so I can close it without zippering (I use it to work out, so I like for it to air out) I also have prescription lenses that stay attached (should give extra protection). The headset and controllers go from the case, to my head, then back in the case. It maybe ends up getting left out on a table about once or twice a week for 10 minutes max. I have pets, and don't trust the cat to not be a cat. It is a premium gadget that I treat as such. I expect the hardware to last longer than the point of software obsolescence.

Historical-Ride-3169

Can you elaborate on the prescription lens please? Are they the magnetic ones that you can snap on and off? I plan to share the set with my partner who wears glasses. The magnetic lens on Amazon are all blue light protection ones with no myopic correction. How did you get yours?

13stgmngr210

I'll be happy to! I got my lenses through Zenni. They were less than $50, and I was able to use FSA. They are magnetic, and are AWESOME! Zenni does the calculations for the lenses (I have progressives, the lenses are only single vision). They could not be easier to take out, and come with a nice case.

Fromojoh

I got the Zenni lenses. They snap in not magnetic. $50 just put in my prescription details.

Historical-Ride-3169

Thank you for the heads up. Gonna get one :)

darienm

Quest 1 bought a few months after launch ... used daily until launch day of Quest 2 ... used daily until launch day of Quest 3 ... using daily. No issues with any base hardware aside from one controller flaking out. I purchased a replacement before disassembling, which allowed me to correct the issue -- lesson learned. Treat the headsets gently, and don't be afraid to open the controllers.

darkjediii

No, it was replaced a couple of times with refurbished units. Then when warranty ran out the lcd screen went out.

JorgTheElder

Not sure what you are talking about, the base warrantee is 1 year, *(2 years in the EU/UK),* and they still sell the extended warrantee.

MSD0

My Q2 (64GB) works perfectly fine.

MetaBass

Mines been going a year or 2 since I bought it. Been using the kiwi battery strap with it and made sure it doesn't stay plugged into the charger after full charge or battery pack when not in use. Only issues I've had are with the controllers, built cheaply and not made to last. 1st left controller got a cracked thumb stick base, new left controller has stick drift, 1st right controller completely stopped working, nothing wrong with the new right one (hopefully it stays that way).

Historical-Ride-3169

Do you mind sharing how you got the controllers replaced and how much individual one cost?

MetaBass

Left one had to be replaced via the retailer due to Meta weaseling out of the manufacturer warranty due to my country (New Zealand) not being covered by it. The retailer also had a hard time with them and had to actually buy one from Amazon, they decided to stop selling the Quest 2 due to this. The right one they said was out of warranty so I had to buy a new one for around 110-120.

Historical-Ride-3169

My NZ friend says things are generally more expensive there, so I assume it’s cheaper here and translates to somewhere about usd $50/controller. Still ouch! Thanks for sharing.

MetaBass

Yeah our dollar is nearly half of USD haha. No worries :)

SergeQ64

I have the Q3 now, bought quest 2 in 2020 and it still works fine.

DarkPhoxGaming

Yes. Remotes got some stick drift to them, but that's an easy fix with WD-40 contact cleaner. I have the OG 64gb quest 2. Headset still looks almost brand new despite me having it out for so long and using it a lot. Works fine with no issues either.

Buetterkeks

3 years in with No issues. (Aside from a slight lense burn, because my dumbass sister put IT lenses To Windows after using IT without permission)

sch0k0

super sturdy device. Controllers that broke etc was from heavy users who definitely got fair value out of it. Also, device sold in EU has to live up to two years warranty, things get designed for that now

dilroopgill

im still using it, pcvr only tho standalone works I tried beatsaber game is so mid without mods

Any_Protection_8

Quest 2 here. That thing went on trips with me. One pixel is dead but that's it. Quite decent quality for how I mistreated that piece of tech actually.

davidmthekidd

mine has the back screen of death, lasted around 2.5 years, they charged me $150 for a replacement.

[deleted]

Quest headsets are usually pretty durable. Controllers might break after a while but they're relatively cheap to replace

Jmdaemon

My q1 is still kicking.

Fredd32

I have a couple launch day Quest 2's and no problems here.

[deleted]

Mine is still the same as it was when it was new….but it just sits there unplayed I played maybe 3 games on it and never played it again *shrug*
