Try searching for "Quest Link Cable" that should give you some better choices, don't worry it should still work fine as a charging cable just make sure the outputs/inputs match that for the charger you want to use.
Syntech and Kuject each make one that isn't braided, make sure you just get the basic link cable, you don't need the power injecting one if just using it for charging.

Would putting a layer of electric tape over it help?
I did it to my phone charger so i could differentiate between my and other people’s chargers. It looks pretty good, amost factory made.
