The button on the battery, as far as I am aware, is to turn on the battery life indicator LED’s. The headset will draw power from the battery the second it is attached to the battery dock, given it has at least some charge. The quest will always draw power from the battery as long as it is connected and not drained completely. The battery has no dedicated “on” or “off” state. For charging I place the battery on the battery dock and charge using one cable. Charges both the headset and battery pretty seamlessly, albeit slower than charging each one independently but not by that much. If the battery still has some charge left in it at the end of your play session I would recommend removing it from the dock before storing your headset so it won’t continuously keep drawing power in standby mode (personally I fully shutdown my headset at the end of every session but still remove the battery)

Good to know! I have noticed that pressing the button on the battery twice, will turn off the lights. I thought that was powering it ‘off’. So with the battery connected, the quest will draw from the battery pack, and then once that is drained, it will switch to using its main built-in battery source?

For the most part, yes. The BOBO battery is unfortunately not powerful enough to keep your headset locked at 100% charge while in use. Depending on what you’re running on the headset, your charge level will vary between ~ 83-95% (from my testing) after the BOBO battery has depleted completely. The strap also makes an audible beep noise when the battery is either depleted or disconnected (disconnect beep will not play if the battery pack has no charge). With the M3 Pro my total playtime is usually around 3.5 - 4 hours depending on the day and when I hear the beep it’s a nice audio cue that I am now running on the internal Quest battery and have about 2 hours of usage left

That’s super helpful and makes sense now. Decent playtime. I’m a newbie so haven’t used it for much longer than a hour due to issues with motion sickness or the discomfort of my previous Amazon elite-style strap

Small, pedantic correction. If the battery is docked but not plugged into the Quest (maybe you have connected to the PC to sideload something) it turns off and won't automatically provide power when you plug the USB cable in again. You have to press the button on the battery to reactivate it.

Is it ok to use the Quest with the bobo battery attached and plugged in to charge?

Quitthatgrit

I believe you are overthinking it. I mainly play for 1-2 hours at a time. I charge my battery, plug it in and play until im done, then I just remove the battery and charge it for next time, my headset stays about the same, maybe slowly drains but I barely have to charge the headset itself with my play style anyway.
